Gold Coast. I've said it before.... (Sorry, I've been doing a bit of travelling.....) It was slated for the 2020 calendar, released in 2019, but the pandemic killed it. Pros: It gets it out of the "afternoon storm" time, which means dry racing and "less" chance of stupidity on a slick track. It is a full on street circuit, which means a street lighting infrastructure exists and only minimal cost to augment the track with a few additional lights in the pit area and some areas of the track. (turns 11, 12 & 13 might get dark, so they would need to be lit. But that's better than lighting the whole track) Post Race Concerts would go completely MENTAL in that parkland straight after the racing Party Palace: the Gold Coast is as busy in the night as it is during the day and racing at night, then, after the concert, filtering into the nightclub precinct would be a shot in the arm for the local business community. Cons: a later impact for the resorts and units in close proximity to the track - who tend to be full of race fans anyway. I could probably think of a billion more Pros and very few Cons if I sat down, but that's my immediate list.
Pleasant surprise to see myself in one of your videos! Lol. Didn't even consider the temperature aspect of it, but yeah I would imagine it's quite chilly in Tasmania this time of year. I was just picturing the cars flashing through the lights down that long backstretch and saw some spectacular scenes in my head. Excellent points about using temporary lighting though, and I think you're spot on. Some of my favorite nascar races growing up were the night races, which have seemed to lose their luster in recent years for the most part, and I think the increase in lighting technology at tracks is likely a big part of that, now that I think about it. Keep up the good work as always, can't wait to see what kind of racing we get in Tasmania!
Cheers Stormy! It'll get as low as 1 degree Celsius this Sunday night in Tassie haha. Other than that though, I agree it would be one of the best tracks for a night race. And they do get better weather during the summer as well, so it's doable. Interesting thoughts from a NASCAR perspective too, appreciate it as always!
@@FanAtTheFence oh my, that is quite chilly! I've been snowed on while camping at the race track before, definitely know what that's like lol. Hopefully it warms up nicely during the day! I have no idea of the politics around race scheduling in the series or any local aspects that affect the date they hold the Tasmania race weekend, but would love if they were able to move it to a warmer month and bring in some lights. Hopefully the big wigs of the sport are subscribed to you and keeping tabs on the comments 😅
@@gerardcrabb4556 they’re not as bad, but people who don’t like it will still complain. I’d love nothing more than to be wrong, but people who don’t enjoy Motorsport will move in next to an existing race track and then complain it’s too loud during the day. Even smsp has curfews because of it.
Never really thought about it until now. While I wouldn't play with the Bathurst 1000 too much, night racing would have been an awesome idea to make this year's Bathurst 500 more interesting. Big money like you say though
The schedule for SuperNight rounds should be either friday and saturday night. or if you wanna do 3 races that weekend saturday twilight, saturday night and sunday twilight
The format always seems to be a challenge for night racing, so many trade-offs. Timing it with a Monday public holiday could make both Saturday and Sunday night races more viable, but that'd be a tricky thing to line up with.
I was at this race and had friends marshalling. It was too bloody cold, and the crowd was miniscule. Honestly I've seen more people at grassroots events than there was at the V8's this year. The best racing at the event were the GR86 and the Porsche's, v8's were very meh.

Winton and QR could do full field test days and night races save some travel for teams test days and put on event while they are there maybe Friday night sprint afternoon qualifying then qualify afternoon race afternoon and Saturday night Sunday day qualifying Top 10 finish up in afternoon race...

We were originally going to have the night round, but that year, there was an election and a swap of government, and the new government put a stop to that
All gone now, but huge crowds used to attend the night racing at Oran Park back in the day.
Such a shame we lost that place, it was a gem!

AGP could do couple of night sprints and use pitlane after F2/3 to get more track time after F1...
The residents wouldn't love that.

QR has been mooted to return under lights, although it seems to have gone a bit quiet more recently. I'd like to see it happen!
How does that work? The test days at Winton & QR are due to geographical reasons. So are you holding races with only "local" teams at each circuit??
