If it had at least a 20mm main gun, less machineguns and a little bit more armor, maybe, just _maaaybe_ it could have been -good- passable, but eh, the guy that made it did the best he could with the materials they had.
@@danielm.595 The armor was literally just sheet metal that would struggle to stop rifle rounds, it was a big bulky box designed like a ghetto WW1 tank for WW2 and if I remember right moved at like 8 mph. I'd say the Panther fits the criterea better. The MBT is basically the midpoint between a WW2 Medium and WW2 Heavy, and the Sherman is *very* much a medium tank. The Panther, however, has a powerful gun(that maintains both a reasonable rate of fire and ammo load), is more heavily armored than a medium but still faster than a heavy. Note: I'm aware the Sherman's gun wasn't anemic. But it certainly errs more towards "good enough" rather than truly "good", while the Panther's gun was...the Panther's gun.
@@RaptorJesusI don't think this was supposed to be serious. Also the Panther has a lot of the traits of an MBT, but the soft factors (reliability, ergonomics) let it down.

If you do really believe that the Panzer III was an MBT and the first one, I can explain why it's not in one very simple way. MBTs are meant to do every job that a tank can and the Panzer III specifically was not. It was literally designed and produced alongside the Panzer IV and meant to complement each other. The later German adoption of heavy tanks as breakthrough weapons to complement the Panzer IV and Panther, a concept which was being worked on years before the Tiger came out, also automatically rules out those two as being MBTs. This is also the same reason that the T-34 isn't an MBT like some people say, it served alongside other tanks meant to fulfill different roles. Meanwhile, when you look at a modern military they have either the one up to date MBT or a mix of several that they use for all tank roles, while any other armored vehicles are not tanks but IFVs, recon vehicles, SPGs etc. Really even some early cold war tanks that some people call MBTs like the T-54/T-55 for example were seen as more of an advanced medium tank since they operated alongside tanks like the IS-3/T-10M. This same logic is also most of the reason that that redditor's comment on the B1 is completely wrong, because it was the heavy breakthrough tank in the dynamic that would operate alongside cavalry tanks and etc. Hope you found my midnight sleepless rant interesting, thank you for coming to my TED talk
When you asked was invading like the Middle East during like they're 2000 you don't they found they found tankettes basically amongst the enemy tanks compounds could you just imagine that Abrams growing up and just looking over and it's a little tiny tankett just parked over there ready for war

I strongly disagree with your placement of the Cromwell. I think the Cromwell was an excellent tank. It had a top speed of 40km/h and had a pretty low profile meaning that it could skip around the battlefield like a goat and quickly exploit the paper thin sides of German tanks: just like a good cruiser tank was designed to do whilst remaining undetected. It could sport a 75mm 6 pounder gun of which shells could be shared both British and American Shermans meaning closer cooperation between other troops and cheaper since different shells is more expensive than using one caliber. It had pretty decent visibility as well since it had 8 periscopes for the commander of which he could rotate them with the hatch. The gun sights were easy to use and displayed a generous amount of information. It was also similarly reliable and “swappable” with its parts as the Sherman. It’s hull, though modified, was a base for other tanks like the comet, charioteer, challenger and avenger. All of which featured a 17 pounder gun (the exception being the charioteer that had a humongous 20 pounder gun). It could definitely be said that it was the British version of the Sherman except shorter and a little bit more cramped and more difficult to get in and out, but the fundamentals of both tanks are pretty similar. I would give it maybe a A/B tier. It was exactly what the British needed for the last few years of the war and that’s what the got. Perfect.
