I have a 2017 RAM 3500 Cummins/Aisin SRW Mega Cab with 3.42 gears, now at 50,000+ miles. Truck runs flawlessly. I love it. When driven strictly highway speeds at 70 mph, I just checked again and am now getting 25.1 mpg. I was at about 22 mpg at 25,000 miles, so the supposed myth that Cummins engines get better mpg as they age, is true for me. These numbers are driving the truck alone. I bought it new in June of 2017, to tow our new 2018 Montana 39 foot 5th wheel which when fully loaded weighs in at 16,000 pounds. I get 11-13 mpg while towing that big 5th wheel. Of course, the 3.42 gears help, and the Aisin has no problems with the higher gear ratio. The Cummins high output coupled to the Aisin is a great combination. It just pulls like a train up and over hills with exhaust brake engaged 100% of the time and in tow/haul mode. I spent 2 years researching my new truck purchase and had no brand loyalty as my prior truck was a 2002 Tundra pulling a smaller travel trailer. I drove the Ford and GM trucks, but fell in love with the Cummins/Aisin grunt and drive-ability. I ordered my truck in the Limited package with all the creature comforts. Others will balk at this, but it works best for me.

I don't know if the video is going to cover it but I'll just go ahead and throw it out there and if anybody knows a way to do it please let me know but this Aisin
transmission will torque limit you through first gear so your diesel's only able to put down half of the torque that it can make. Where with the 68 rfe you can increase line pressure and valve body and you can power on through.
I would like a way to do this because I'm okay with changing out or rebuilding the transfer case in a worst case scenario, but it would be nice to power away from a Corvette with a 1-ton truck. 😂 And if you build it properly, your turbo can act like a jet engine. Never needing engine combustion gases to get spooled up. So you can definitely lay some cash down on the race

This video definitely does not cover that... but we appreciate you stopping by and commenting! There are a few other Aisin vids on this channel, so check em out! Thanks again!!

I am torn apart which ratio should I get? I want Aisin DRW Ram truck in the early spring so I could pull Keystone Carbon 357 Toy Hauler. I really want to have good MPG if possible. Which one should I get 3.73 or 4.10 ration tranny? Thanks! By the way GREAT VIDEO!

Dale Fine, I wouldn't go with the 4.10s unless you are towing very heavy all the time. The 3.73 have plenty of grunt. Towing less than 10,000lbs the 3.45s would be ok. I don't think you can get them in drw though. Thank you so much for watching!

Carbon 357 shipping weight is 12842 LBS and the max weight is 17000 LBS. The 3.73 with DRW are able to pull up to 25910 LBS. I think I should get Aisin 3.73. Many Thanks!!!

I have a 2014 3500 drw 4x4 with the heavy duty aisen. 410 gears I average 16mpg non towing and 12 to 14 towing 15000lb 5th wheel. There are 2 versions of the aisen and the heavy duty version is only available in dually with the 30000lb + towing capacity. The lite version is in the 2500s. The heavy duty is great for towing and is geared completely different for this reason. I have 100000 miles on this truck now and the transmission never misses a beat. 10 times better than my 05 Cummins with the 64rfe. And it always runs cool . This trans is every bit as good as the Allison's and maybe better as time will tell. You will not regret your choice with the drw and 410s once you hook up your big 5th wheel to it. After 4 years I still get excited to tow the trailer over the grapevine in California.

    I have an 06 3500 DRW and a 5.9L if I keep the rpms under 2,000 so 65-68mph on the freeway I get 19.5-20mpg. If I drive 55 I get 22 mpg

Nice job man, not a bad video. Sounds like your happy with the Aisin vs the 68RFE...any negatives to this transmission(or the HO motor) that you have noticed? Are you guys out of Florida?

+Barr Thom, I have had an issue with the AISIN. Overall I'm still happy but I think it's worth mentioning in another video. No problems with the motor. We are out of the Carolina's. How about you?

I check the mileage everyday and travel highways towing and not towing. I get 9 to 14 mpg towing an R.V with a 68rfe. The 14 is a 20 foot travel trailer at 55 mpg. the 9 is a 40 foot Park Model and some wind at 65mph. Realistic numbers are based on speed, wind, terrain and flat plate area of the trailer you are towing. Unloaded at 55mph I get 23.5 mpg. Yep. That much. Typical mileage unloaded at 75mph is 19mpg. I do not use the idiot meter on the dash. It does not always reflect reality. I check it at the pump.
Local driving will change those numbers downward.

Best part was on the boat..... Look, Ram/Dodge has always had SHIT transmissions. ''SHIT'' that is..... unless you want to shift all day. But will we ever see a built trans....? I'm saying NOPE.! It's job security for the mechanics. Ram has the BEST DIESEL , its because they do not build it. Ford & GM , keep trying . Like the GM, has an Allison , why ,Because they beat Dodge / Ram to the punch. Without that trans, GM wouldn't have a leg to stand on in the diesel world. Ford , they can build a decent trans. But that Diesel !@#$%^&*. any how, are you DELETED yet..?

Jim Cash, no delete, went for the extended warranty. I tend to agree with your statements. I hope this Japanese trans holds up long term. Check out some of the newer boat vids. More boat videos in the works ;)
