    Firstly, you can totally save it in startup file by just clicking at shield icon right next to node name field, second option would be using 3.4 and setting node as asset for library, but that's bit more complicated if you want to have some submenus in shift+a menu.

      Ah... that would be why it didn't work on the startup, great to know and thanks.
      Someone else commented on using the asset browser so I'm going to be looking at that this evening.
      Thanks so much for the comments and suggestions, such a great community 😁👍🏻

    Thanks for the share... I'd like to have had you create TWO custom node groups and see how you would have saved them, without the addon too.
    You can go in the outliner switch Display type to: Blender File in the drop down menu, find the node group, tag it as an asset and now it'll show up in the asset browser... the issue is that you still have to save a "default" blend file for each node group, or stick all of the custom nodes you made and tagged them as assets, and resave EACH TIME you make a new one if you want to have just one blend file with all the custom nodes in one file...
    In this way, you could have one blend file with all the custom nodes in the Asset Browser to append in one place... IF you do what Chipp Walters does, i.e., saves a start up file separate from the Default start up file using date to distinguish them in a serial storage scheme, you CAN have all your custom nodes in one place, all in the asset browser, the caveat being you then have to save that blend file as the default start up file each time you've changed/added a new custom node group.
    Blender being Blender, I guess. They get a gold star for making things the least parsimonious no matter the thing you're trying to accomplish in their software... free isn't free, you pay with your time! (dun dun dunnnnnnn).
    That being said, I had downloaded the addon prior to watching this, and I hope it makes that process easier from our side... but I'd really had preferred to not have to use an addon to do this.
    I have tried to make a Community Custom GN repo (on github) but the Geometry Node Blenderers really ain't into sharing for some reason... very Houdini community like, sadly. The Blender Cult of free use ends when things get hard, I guess.
    I feel like the Blender GN community is coming apart at the seams!

      Ill be trying that asset browser trick for sure. I already have a file with all my other assets in so adding the nodes to that isnt much of an issue and it would overall be a huge time saving.
      The add on is great the only issue is that at the moment it doesnt have an option to delete nodes form the Load List or change the name/etc. But the designer has said they are functions that are coming (it is a beta after all).

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul  ปีที่แล้ว

      So Im trying this and while I have set the node group as an asset it then isn't visible in the Asset Browser. When you're in another file trying to use the asset library how do you recover it to use?

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't worry, found it. Thats not the worst in the world to deal with, I was expecting something way more clunky. Definitely saves time over making the node group each time.

      @@ArtisansofVaul Well, by accident I was watching th-cam.com/video/nmGs9fEPcrA/w-d-xo.html and @42:11 (I'm not doing the calculation to add &t=seconds for 42 mins..., I'm burnt working on my starfield twinkle), the guy noted that in Blender 3.4 they will have custom Geonodes that you've saved as an asset "seamlessly" available to you...
      What I was seriously concerned about watching that video was that the Blender Foundation, even with all their corp sponsors throwing a few pennies their way, have not taught the group of Blender devs or company as a whole, how to be Agile; though the same "manager" in an offhand comment referenced Agile (one of the ways to not just random walk you're way to greatness, or failure...)
      Blender is 20 years old. It shouldn't be discovering how to be a company anymore. I'm really surprised. The "stakeholders" should in lieu of contributions, ask to be taught best industry practices, those problems have been solved. I also didn't know Ton had leukemia... they referenced that, idk y. HIPAA violation... boy did I get that beaten into my head as a medical professional...
      Unless of course ESG Guidelines have fubar'd all the previous progress because that's no longer an important goal, you know, actually solving problems and making your product better over things like diversity.
      If your business fails, you can't employ anyone, let alone a diverse hire.
      You stay safe, and if you think about it, not having a professional way to save your custom GN group only affects ppl at intermediate and higher skill level... the few, the proud, the unseen, like the 30 ppl that view my unlisted videos on ytube that also do Geometry Nodes, I guess... 😬

    Add a Fake User to the node group and then you can delete it. Then save your default file. The node group will then be available in the Add/Group menu item in the Geometry Nodes window. You must first add a NEW group for it to show up though.

    I'm coming to this video after watching your roof tiling video. When I try to create a grouped node, it's not carrying over the names that I had assigned the group inputs, i.e. value, value, boolean, switch, etc. Any thoughts?

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that's odd. I haven't seen that before to be honest. Is that just on the setup or when you bring it into another file?

    Does it work for Blender 4.0 ?
    I have a " File Not Found Error" but if I manually go to the mentionned path , i can see my ' subprocess.py" file. any idea ? i'm on Blender 4.0, does it work with Blender 4.0 ?

      @ArtisansofVaul  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You don't really need all this for Blender 4.0 as they have integrated Geometry nodes more fully so it's WAY simpler. I've covered it in this video so hopefully that helps: th-cam.com/video/Byp1dC0dRPo/w-d-xo.html

    Couldn't you also save it as an asset?

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can if its an object, but this is to save it as a single node to bring in as part of another node tree.
      If I'm wrong and the single node could be an asset that would be awesome (that would be the ideal solution)
