Very well done video and I like the tube idea. The one thing I have noticed in most of the oil and lower unit change videos is that no one is wearing rubber gloves. They are a must.
Hi Paul, I'm retired Honda Master auto tech and though I could share a hack. Reynolds wrap sells packs of individual wraps. Put your rags under filter , then put Reynolds wrap under filter and route outside cowling and you should have near or zero mess. We used this hack on Honda cars every day
I like the drain tube idea. I think I will cut the tube 1” shorter than my ratchet wrench extension, then install the tube first and pull the plug out through it for less mess. I just bought my first oil, so I will check the plug size before pouring it in.
That was my thought as well, remove the drain plug through a shorter hose. Hose is a good idea, cant say the same about the filter removal process...... So many straps wrenches and pliers on the market that would remove the filter in a better way. Good tips though!
I can already see gouges from the screwdriver in the near future lol. Oil filter wrench is like $10 at at hardware or automotive supply stores. And the oil getting being the engine chaps isn’t going to hurt it. Just wash it down with fresh water
I will be the reason screwdrivers are sold out…sorry world. Lol, but seriously the screw driver method is ONLY if you dont have the tool and the method you doesn’t just apply to outboards.
Walmart sells a kit with different size of adapters to fit on assorted size of oil filters. Pull spark plugs and spray cylinders with sea foam and replace plugs. Always pull off propeller and check for fishing line around propeller shaft. Use waterproof grease on spline and replace propeller.👍
Since you had a strap wrench you could have used that to take the oil filter off, but I must say pounding a screwdriver through the oil filter is more cinematic.
I don’t understand, if you were changing the oil, and it is your boat, motor and you’re going to keep it, why not buy the tools to make it easier like the oil filter wrench??? It makes no sense to beat on the side of the oil filter when you knew you needed a wrench to change it! I’m just saying!!
Wet the new filters gasket with fresh oil and hand tighten. PFT in the marine corps. Pretty F!ng tight. That’s why ur using a screw driver to release it.
Hello, I've just ordered a Suzuki DF 30hp ATHL and I need to know big should I do the transom?? Can you tell me the lengh of yours?(if you have a long shaft type) By the book they say 508mm, but I ve mesured with a Suzuki 5hp and it has almost 590mm. I can't find a 30hp to measure. Can you help me figure it out? I need a lengh of your boat transom. Thank you
Are you asking how tall you should make your transom? I have a jack plate and the way it mounts makes it taller. My transom is 15" and the jack plate adds a additional height of 3 3/4" for a total of 18 3/4" or 476.25 mm. I don't think I can help you as my jackplate allows me to have a shorter transom as it sets it back 4" further behind the boat.
Didn't notice, I was getting cavitation so I installed the hydrofoil to remedy that. It does help with cavitation, but I don't have a before and after comparison to share.
23mph, but I always have alot of gear and people. Never tested without other people and fishing gear. A good speed for a 1440 jon boat. I heard that the 30HP only give you another 2mph.

Thanks for this! Searching you channel for lower gear unit change next. Appriciate it!
No problem. Thanks for stopping by to watch!

Leave the engine fill plug in to UNTIL you remove the oil drain plug and it might not flow out as fast. Worth a try.
Nothing like knowing or doing an instructional video !
I trim my motor up like in undeep water stand and then turn it to the right so the oil wont spill on the tail :)

Pulling off the prop and checking for line I believe is an overlooked maintenance step. Good call and will add to my routine task.
Awesome hack job changing your oil! You should have used a rigging tube for the set up🤦🏻♂️
Since you had a strap wrench you could have used that to take the oil filter off, but I must say pounding a screwdriver through the oil filter is more cinematic.
Until you hammer into the threads
Does the new oil filter go back on hand tightened like a vehicle?

this video is handy thanks
Glad I can help!

Just cut the ends off a plastic bottle and split it down the middle is easier
use a leather belt for the filter
Sounds like that would work, great idea!
how much more power and speed did you get from that 200 sport hydrofoil?

How do I find out which filter, oil, capacity, etc? I have the exact same engine 2020

Where is the cayman gps?
can i use the screwdriver to put the new filter on
You could, but I think you will cause an oil leak situation....good question!
Top speed?

I heard that the 30HP only give you another 2mph.
@@thepauldixonOC I have seen many videos about Suzuki Df 25 and Df30. They were going 28-30 mph. Your boat isn't heavy either. 23 mph is not much
@@andrewtaylor9674 My boat is heavy for the size and loaded with gear, decking, hatches, bowfishing rail and lights, generator, etc….
Filter wrench. It's a thing.
You have one of those things....can't hide money! LOL, yeah I know, just showing other ways. People may not know until they know.
What. A. Hack. 😂
Just cut the ends off a plastic bottle and split it down the middle is easier
Thanks for sharing, gotta try that one day!
