    I just saw the title and it already makes sense, you cannot have two thoughts at once, just one quick thought after another, so if you have a negative thought you just create a chain reaction and a follow up story you give to it which creates more suffering, if you catch the chain reaction and thought pattern early on you can free yourself from further suffering by breaking it. You aren't your thoughts, thoughts can't suffer, it's the meaning and attachments you give to your thoughts that makes it seem real.

    "Experience the fear without any resistance to it... from that point of view, is there anything problematic about it, without resistance... without reference to the past, to thinking, to comparing it to anything, and just experience the fear, is it uncomfortable? Is there any motivation in you to move away from it?"
    "Go closer to it, take refuge in the experience itself. Come so close to the experience that you can't separate yourself from it."
    "Take refuge in the now. You're always at peace in the now."
    "Whenever you're suffering, your suffering is contained in a single thought. 'I don't like what is present, I want what is not present.'"
    "Your fear is made out of yourself, your consciousness."
    "At the heart of your fear, you find happiness, you find peace... you find yourself."
    Wow. For me, this is one of Rupert's most poignant talks. Thank-you, beautiful soul:)

      @@akakonoha No worries mate :) It is true that what Rupert talks of has to do with "the core", "emptiness", "nothingness" out of which everything arises. One part of the problem is that we should not pursue "nothingness" or "enlightenment" as an object. To think we were enlightened from start would help, but on the other hand if we walk around "like Jesus" we surely got it wrong.. That's why it seems so difficult to convey the most simple and fundamental truth of our being. All the best for you!

    Whenever I turn to face the fear, I find that there seems to be a bigger fear located within it and this bigger fear is one of losing my place in this world, in this experience of who I am, of annihilation. But I address the resistance without including "resistance of ..." in this. I just release resistance overall and this helps.

    Not only suffering, but “you” as a separate entity is contained in a single thought rising and falling. Some thought emotion or sensation takes place, then there is an identification with it, “pulling” and storing it as a slice of “me” in the memory bank of the brain.

If we accept any feeling which is a movement of awareness and become one with it as awareness, we can even find happiness in even fear, too. So perfectly and so clearly said that even I can understand clearly. You solved all my problems with this insightful talk. Thanks, God bless you.

    Yes, resistance and thought creates suffering...but if you go into the fear, look at it deeply, and understand it - fear often vanishes. Fear is due to ignorance and illusions of the mind. Really, fear too is caused by thought and resistance.

    All fear in the end boils down to fear of death - annihilation! Every separate self using all means possible and impossible (for example trying to download ones consciousness into a computer) to escape its fundamental dilemma - trying to survive but inevitable doomed to fail- is what makes the world go round. It's pure ignorance what makes us suffer and heartbreaking. Butt until the truth is realised, it's the nature of the game. 😘

  • @derekreed6798
    @derekreed6798 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 2 approaches of 'dealing' with fear...I think you said 'turning away' and 'turning toward'...Turning away still involves a relative comparison with ego..I'm not this, I'm not that..thats my ego and I am deeper consciousness..I tried this for a long time but kept being pulled into an egoic response. Turning towards, however, involves you 'catching' the feeling early on and not associating it with ego, but instead accepting the feeling and 'letting it go' before associating with your egoic social filters..this I have found works for me so much better and doesn't bring my ego in at all.

      Jason Kowalski anxiety is made of sensations, take a very close look at the sensations. Vipassana/mindfulness is a good well taught path for first cultivating heightened awareness/concentration (takes practice to build up but worth it) and then aiming that power at anything going on in your experience including the worst sensations. Things up close in this manner have a funny way of sort of falling apart like looking at a horrible image up close on a screen. It’s just pixels, not good or bad. It’s trippy stuff and very powerful. I deal with anxiety and find it profoundly helpful

    Fear is the emotional reaction to the current contents of thought, which involve memory.
    In the absence of thought, only the most immediate and dangerous threat can bring fear.
    Outside of this possibity, fear depends on remembering and imagining bad outcomes in the past.
    Awareness can witness this useless process of negative thinking.
    You are self harming psychologically speaking.
    Stop it, and the fear will go away - HAS to go away.
    Yes- far easier said than done
    But in my experience, is really is that simple.
    I would say, don't become the master that has to whip the inner slave into shape
    You are creating that duality inside, pretending you are the master,
    when in fact you become the slave, the one enduring punishment.

      Sadhguru is kind of a clown though. But who am i to judge.
      It would be fun if they did something unrelated to their ordinary talks. Maybe if Rupert and Sadhguru did nuru massage with eachother, that would be so humorous.

    I got it. The separate self, what resists fear, is the animal-self survival instinct. To be free of that resistance means to experience the bliss of pure consciousness in the now...but also become not that great at survival b/c eating and starving would be seen as one--the illusion of the separate self. I wonder if anyone has ever considered the possibility that the experience of the united self and consciousness beyond conditions is the illusion, and not the world that animals experience.

    What Rupert describes as the Vedantic path is only the first step in a two-step process in Advaita Vedanta. It would be good if he made that clear.

    I was suffering, and I really mean suffering, for my whole life. I always felt that it is somehow unnecessary, that I am doing something wrong, but I could not step out of it. What a waste of life.

      @@nadimares7153 try to notice that every point of your suffering boiles down to the thought of “this situation should be different than it is”. Try to notice that when trying to “fix” the situation youre actually adding more of the “this shouldn’t be” thoughts. Fear is not neutral. It is an energy flowing through negative belief filters. It's whole purpose is to be unpleasant so that you challenge those unhelpful beliefs. If you merely watch the fear, it's true that it will pass but it will return when the stimuli that activates it returns.

    • @OmniaCrafts
      @OmniaCrafts 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hengrave5 true, but for whom is this a problem? By practising watching without resistance or attachment, each time it returns the ripples will be less and less intense, it will be starved of the energy it requires to feed on and it will die out naturally

    No, I resist because I don't like the sensations fear produces. So I am resisting the experience of fear, init?

  • @entschnabler
    @entschnabler 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If I see a red traffic light and I take it out of context - it doesn't alarm me, I can simply take it for what it is and so I keep driving and perhaps hit another car. I completely acknowledge the principle of being with the fear. But isn't the problem the idea that the fear actually means something like a red flag from the subconcious we just don't understand (yet)? "I have a bad feeling about this" you say and then start investigating why you have a bad feeling and maybe then you make a decision based on that. Isn't this a question of whether you can or cannot trust your gut / instinct?
    I guess the fear we are talking about here is more about a general one rather than specifically connected to a certain situation. But still I assume that feeling miserable (fearful) in your life could actually MEAN something and you could figure out how your life would be better, e.g. eat more breakfast? Or could being with the fear be exactly the best way to understand why the fear is arising.. oooh i see.. i guess

    • @FabSia
      @FabSia 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This has also been my question. So there is a fear and there is an intuition. Sometimes when i feel bad about someone, it's bcz of fear rooted in past bad memories with people. And at sometimes I'm actually right about the person. Just don't know in that moment, whether this fearful thought is coming out of a past memory pattern or is my gut right.
