I’ve said it before but the retail prices are now just too expensive 😬 Omega is way too expensive and they’ve not released anything new in ages. I tried on the Tudor FXD black thing with the green strap on Saturday and I really liked it but I wouldn’t touch a Tudor again after all the quality issues I’ve seen and experienced and once again the prices are ridiculous for what you get. They had basically all the so called hot Tudor’s in the window and sometimes two of them. I say hot models but Tudor only make a few watches people actually want. I personally think things are only going to get worse too because it feels like the party is over in the watch world. So sorry for your loss Brendan 🙏🏻

I visited the Swatch shop in Battersea Power Station on a Sunday recently and the customers were outnumbered by the two black clad security guys, what are Swatch expecting? Meanwhile the Tudor store was empty with no security! In my opinion one of the best deals at the moment (I bought one) is the Longines Spirit, 40mm Blue dial on a bracelet for £1500 at Beaverbrook's and others.

I could hit the "Buy" button and get the neo-vintage Rolex I am after, and scratch that itch.
Or I could keep my power dry and see how far the prices drop.
With the current global economic headwinds and people diverting cash into paying down debt I think they watch market is heading for a lean period.

I've always said Tudor has some minor QC issues that can't be overlooked. Makes me laugh every time someone says they're getting close to beating Omega. Meanwhile they only have one model (black Bay variants) that's keeping the company afloat. With the economy the way things are you won't see the lines unless it's Swatch toys for sale. I do believe the basic model Rolex (DJ, yachtmaster) and high end gold sub, Daytona, GMT are much easier to get retail. That's why the grey market prices are even or in some cases below new.

There is another reason why over designed boutiques with full (exaggerated) retail price products exist. Luxury watches, designer eyewear etc...... They are not there to smash sales targets. They'll break even from the un-educated, the rich and don't care how much brigade and tourists. Even if the site is a loss leader they'll acheive their aims. To make you go and buy the item for less from a multi brand site. Who then either order it from the brand or sell from stock then replenish with more purchases from the brand. Tudor, Omaga, Breitling, Ray Ban whoever. They still sell the products and hit margin targets - they just sell them elsewhere making you feel like you gamed them. The boutiques are there to make you want the brand and product but not particularly sell it to you, casue you know you can beat their price cause you are smart. And they know you will go away and do that. And they still shift the units at target margin. Boutique margin if it comes is a bonus they don't need.

Brendan, I will admit I actually got a Uranus in Istanbul on opening day The queue wasn't as huge as the ones I saw on TV, I only waited 5 minutes but they all sold out. I would have walked away if I thought I was going to wait 15 minutes. Anyway I have to say I don't think they're worth £20, never mind £220. They're very bad quality. I ended up getting my money back. It's hot in Istanbul and I got a blue wrist from the caseback, this is the reason I got a refund. Previously the top pusher fell off, the strap was frayed after a few days and the plastic crystal had a scratch from a shirt button. The blue dye saved me as I think they might have said the other stuff was my fault. Anyway I felt like a bit of an eejit wearing a baby's watch. 😂 I'm not waiting for a Rolex to be honest. I'm not a waiting in line type of person generally. I would wait the same 5 minutes for a Rolex as for the Uranus! I have some very nice watches, a couple that cost more than submariner and I didn't have to beg anyone to take my money. That's just demeaning for me. I have everything from a Casio to a Seamaster to a Grand Seiko and I never had to wait. But for those who want one and are willing to wait, I suppose now is as good a time as any. However, the grey market is now worth looking at. Some of them are now selling very close to retail and even at or below. There's been a big influx of luxury watches from the biggest market, China, which caused the scarcity in the first place. Now their economy has collapsed and there's been a huge crash in the investment property market. Chinese people are selling their luxury brands for dollars or gold. It's a small stream at the moment but I think it will turn into a river. I imagine if you had the opportunity, go to watch dealers in Taiwan or Hong Kong and you'd get watches for bargain prices. (make sure they're real though!) Sorry for your loss Brendan and best wishes.

That Trafford centre Tudor store/Tag heuer Goldsmiths is shocking super pretentious staff 😑 ... pretending to be busy defo not good customer service plenty of shit Tudors on display 😡
But on the other hand the Omega boutique at Trafford centre are genuine nice staff but problem thing ya can't get a discount so its a nay for me unfortunately 😅
The watch market is dead coz people realise watches are not a necessity cant put a roof over ya head especially you can buy a smart watch does the job and more ...another thing is the prices of luxury watches are too expensive for what it is nowadays 🤦‍♂️
Only reason why the watch market was mental during covid coz everyone was bored at home with money to spend on unnecessary things now we are back to normal so I wont be suprised Rolex and other so called high end luxury brands will be under retail in no time 😂

Can we please all not be so dramatic and just remind ourselves that up until 2017 You could walk into Rolex Bond Street and pick any model you wanted (Daytona excl.) and get most of them under retail online?
The volume of sales has exploded and we still cannot get many watches at retail... and in the meantime they have raised their prices by 30-40%... I'm pretty sure things are ok 😂

@@ericp1139 That's what I mean, that to talk about "the market crashing" when for my whole life not one watch (except daytona) was over retail and all were always heavily discounted... its just crazy me.
I think we should be happy watches have become a thing and more people share their madness with us.
I quite dislike the constant doom & gloom videos (as much as I disliked the ""investment"" videos).
Watches are luxury products nobody really needs... a privilege, let's enjoy them and stop making millions of hours of content about the money/value :(

    • @AnaInTh3Sky
      @AnaInTh3Sky ปีที่แล้ว

@@waynemoore9951 with all die respect, I don't think you have understood the business model of luxury brands... they MUST be unattainable to the common man... considering between 2017-2022 there has been asset inflation of 50%+ and the top 1% have, pretty much, doubled their worth...and brands like Omega, Tudor have completely eliminated discounts, increased prices and posting record sales and profit results... I'm sorry but that is not a bubble nor do they care about the few enthusiast/punters who overpaid for their pieces. People in the watch hobby are completely detached from reality and we tend to think these tots are for us... they are not, nor do brands care about what the enthusiasts want.
