I hope everyone in the watch community regardless of politics or group gets to see this. Well done. Very honest and helpful.
I don’t say this lightly, but that was a master class in breaking down and explaining to the target audience what a para social relationship is and how it works 👏 well done. Social engineering of people’s feelings affect their perception of things, simple as that. I especially enjoyed the little subtle pips of music to evoke a subconscious response in key spots of your video - first class, well done Oisin 👍
It is all fluff…..22 minute video with three minutes of information. PASS !!!
Fantastic advice that’s clearly much needed. Absolutely nailed it and I hope people listened!
Fine artists deal with this scenario all the time. They leave all their paintings at galleries on consignment all the time and when the gallery goes under, you're screwed. Gallery owners are MIA with the artwork and gone. Any business proposition where consignment is discussed should immediately raise a red flag.. This should be a wake up call. Sad for those who lost money.. Good content as usual and a topic that needed to be addressed..
@georgezagr6627 Exactly there is a quick cash price and there's a price to sell to a end user. Whenever I hear someone say "they are going for x price" I tell them go sell your item yourself. A real dealer has to account for selling cost, profit and the cost of money over time. People have no clue.
@@KeithBeacham You can do it yourself but you also have to prove to whoever your selling to that your piece is authentic. You can have all the paperwork but what if you swapped the watch itself to a fake? If you sell something yourself it takes extra time to do your own authentications for the sake of the buyer. This is why people pay brokers.
Isn’t there a sheriff or civil court officer to go after them
@@OscarOSullivan because it's a civil matter, it's difficult to get anything done. Court costs make it prohibitive to do anything
@@salvadorcano4494 In Ireland there are court authorised officers who will chase you down to pay up what you owe
I like Federico. I do not agree with some of his takes when it comes to certain watches but I whole heartedly agree with him letting the cat out of the bag. That was the right thing to do. And you did a fantastic job with this video. Good, honest breakdown.
In my view, Federico is highly credible and trustworthy. He used to work for Piaget, and I know the firm very well. One thing for certain, if Piaget places confidence in him, so would I.
well let me guess, you dont agree with fed's take on rolex 😂. butthurt rolex fan
@@alexp3752
I never he wasn’t trustworthy. Simply I don’t always agree with him on what’s makes a great watch. Different strokes for different people but his take on this is dead on and honest and that I can respect!
Frederico has definitely made a few adjustments to his channel over the last few years. I enjoy his content more than I used to and I think it's because he had a bit of an inner awakening and a opening of his conscience to the content he was putting out and the things he was saying. I have nothing but respect for people that admit flaws, grow from them and have discuss it openly with people or an audience they're speaking to.
You and Federico are taking the high road with this one, both very educational and viewer-oriented takes on what was a glaringly predictable end for Anthony...
Amazing factual and educational piece, thanks Oisin. As always top quality content.
This came up in my suggested feed. I watched and completely enjoyed your take on the consignment dealings and the Parasocial aspects. Thanks for the video.
Knocked this one out of the park again Oisin.
and Kudos to Fred for once again being the truthful pivot point on watch dealing that the watch world needs
Great information, and great video (as always). Appreciate the work you put into your content.
Wow, this was so informative. I never knew any of this but after you used the analogy with the bank, it makes perfect sense. Great video, and really appreciate people like you for the watch community…
Really appreciate how well you described the nature of the relationship between TH-cam viewers and YT Personalities - and the risks associated when money or influence is involved.
Oisin, so well said and spot on. You stood out on the Tim Write Zoom call last week with Anthony Farrer. You were the only interviewer who understood that Anthony was a grifter and called him out. Kudos to you. Regarding Anthony, he conned all of us from the beginning. It was only the last 90 days that Redittors shared his extensive arrest record since he was a teen. Anthony himself just told us he was arrested FORTY times. More importantly, we also learned that Anthony is just the tip of the grey market watch grifters, and this practice is more common then we thought. Keep up your work of exposing these frauds and hucksters!
Actually, lots of people on Reddit knew that TPG was a scam early on even dating back to the Dallas days. Its just that there were a lot of people who fawned on flexing of leased luxury cars, , expensive dinners, and first class flights to deliver watches only netting a few thousand who couldn't see a consignment business model wasn't generating enough money to support the high life . Also, if one couldn't see past the fake flexing, there were other early warning signs about lack of cash such as the watch buy back program, the 2k VIP watch club , watch dealer university. the list goes on.
Excellent video Oisín 👍🏻 you explained a lot of information to us very clearly👏🏻
In a climate of noise and hype, this was exceedingly well done, forthright, insightful and appreciated. As usual, notable for no BS, a sense of humor, and good hair, in a throwback way.
Excellent and important video - and one of your more philosophical. Lifts the veil on how social media is opening up new terrain for deceptive and predatory business practices.
This was a very good vid. Honesty is a virtue and so rare nowadays. Big shout out to u man 🙌💯😎👊
Thanks Oisin, you're the best parasocial friend a guy could ask for!😊
Cheers to Oisin! The best parasocial friend a guy could ever have!
that was epic!!
Parasocial friends on Parasocial Media
😂
Fascinating group of people in the watch world. Love watching these videos.
I've been watching Archie Luxury for years; he's a character to say the least. But as I've been going down the rabbit hole, the watch world seems populated by a bunch of snake oil salesmen, wheeler dealers, and wannabees.
In my city, we have an area called Yorkville, which is crawling with nouveau riche and faux riche, the latter of which are likely drowning in debt. Lambos, Ferraris, Bentleys abound, all driven by Eurotrash and domestic skidders disguised as rich folk. It's a hoot to witness. And TPG would have fit in perfectly. Love all this content. Thanks to all!
Not that I have a watch valuable enough to worry about this, I do watch a lot of watch channels like yours. I saw Fed's video the other day, and was surprised and pleased he did this. Also, your video does a much better job of explaining the situation and why people should know what the hell is going on with this than anyone else. Outstanding job sir!
This is the first video I saw from you, the way you explained and taught us to understand parasocial relationships was an experience for me in a worthwhile way. Arrogant I am, thinking to have seen it all in life, the good and the bad. You did just prove the opposite, and learned something new to me, its valuable and useful for every day.
Thank you!
This is the most interesting explanation of people's socil media addictions. They have friends with no recourse. I would laugh but it's kind of sad.. That's probably why so many people are emotionally disconnected. And every once in awhile I'll come across the video like this that I evokes my thoughts and how I see you things and to give me a new perspective. 😊👍
Federicos video yesterday hit the nail on the head and will hopefully educate alot of viewers on the enormous risk of consigning watches.
Great video ❤
Treat all gray dealer businesses the same way you treat your local politicians. Don’t trust them.
I bought a watch from Fed, he was super honest and very helpful.
Absolutely brilliant video Oisin lad! The cream will rise to the top, your consistency is unmatched! Keep it up ☘️
Great narrative, relevant and a wake up call to all. Pulling back the curtain on the business.
Absolute truth spoken and very good information given for no personal gain. Thank you👌
Thanks for the education. You're explanation was very clear and insightful. I've learnt something today!!!
This is excellent! Your discussion of para-social relationship is very valuable and all consumers should heed your wise words.
Great analysis and excellent content, thank you Sir!!
Outstanding video and good advice! Paying with Consignment Watches are like Russian Roulette!
Tim its time to come back to the ArchieVerse, all is forgiven.
@@darthnagus5457 No thank you, what I've seen in Australia can never be unseen.
It is about trust, we have never reinvested someone’s money, pay as soon as consignment watch has sold and only consign watches that would be slow /hard movers. But then, we have 35 years business experience and have never been arrested for anything, ever
One of your most brilliant videos yet! All the best, D
Important subject presented with great integrity. Well done Oisin.
I just subbed. This is the most brilliant piece of work on the ineternet I've seen in the last 2 months. You taught me something important about internet "celebrities."
This is my first time seeing you and/or your channel. I have seen other people break down the various problems that you brought up, but no one has done it with the detail and expertise as you. Sir I thank you. I will be watching more of your videos. Stay blessed.
Excellent commentary of Federico's most recent post. ParaSocial relationships can be dangerous. Never consign with someone that may go broke, or already be broke! Better yet, NEVER CONSIGN AT ALL!
Good stuff! Spot on and Federico was absolutely right. Sell back to your AD. Break even and get a new piece. Forget the investment BS. Wear your watch, treat it well and trade in when done.
Great video. I find it hard to believe that anyone doesn’t understand that all social media is an advertising platform designed to interact with you so that either the content creator or their sponsors can sell you something. The first rule in selling is build a rapport with me and video is a prime way to do that when marketing to a global audience of individuals.
Og course he is right, scammers are active all the time, I noticed almost immediately that the “Gentleman” was seriously flawed and I would never ever do any kind of business with a person like that.
It isn’t hard to tell the sharks from the honest dealers just by watching them on TH-cam. The gym bodies and tight Ts usually belong to the sharks. 😂
@@frankbrennan1619 Interesting, I never thought about that..
Very insightful information. Totally agree about consignment. The old adage of “Buy the dealer, not the watch” seems very applicable. The parasocial relationship has absolutely effected the Watch market without question.
Remember the London watch show where a dealer had 400k worth of watches stolen from the room that could only be accessed by dealers and security. Well it was an inside job , and was taken by another dealer. This is mostly the people you are dealing with should you chose to do so...
Stumbled upon this video…. Honestly one of the best self reflection videos I’ve ever seen, period. Very much appreciate this video, even more so since it speaks somewhat against your own efforts of this very channel. I’m going to show my family this video for their own self awareness. Subbed for more content like this which goes well beyond my self gratification of the watch hobby itself.
Dude, once again why your channel is the most well round watch, travel, documentary content out there preach it !!!!!
I find the psychology of the "victims" more interesting than that of the great man himself. I still can't fathom why anyone would send 2k to a cartoonish Internet figure for a store build-out. It was as if they were hypnotized.
Agree and its a social & psychological dynamic of both like of the codependent , abuser, manipulater or narcissistic relationship. Very fascinating stuff and sad too
I would not send him my GShock to consign
The same for me. The guy literally rubbed me (pun intended) the wrong way after 2 or 3 videos. And that was at the very beginning of the TPG saga, well before the 30ft fish tank, the blackout and all that shit. Always thought the guy was a piece of shit. Still don't get why anybody would be a fan of this con artist...
What..... did his subs give him money for a shop fit out?
Yes, that was one of the early capers in Dallas before the blackout fiasco. The idea was that by supporting the store refurbishment with 2k you were afforded visiting rights and club priveleges.@@8ttiknio8
I love oisin's forthrightness and generally just not giving a f*ck attitude, we need to expose some of these slippery characters who probably didn't know a vacheron from a breguet 5/6 years ago. Well said oisin
Oisin, this is a great video man, keep up the good work and we’ll thought out content!
Excellent review of the mindset of the subscriber.
'I am looking at you', but I am relieved you are 'not actually looking at me', given that I am slouching in my man-cave wearing a stained string-vest while shovelling down my fifth processed cheese burger and saturated fries of the morning. (sorry I logged off for a moment; one of my 14 rescue cats walked over my keyboard.)
Great video and thoughts. I sold a Sky Dweller last yr (not consignment), But the dealers love consignment and try to get you in, by saying it will get you the best price etc etc (GREED).
I asked the dealer for his Drivers Licence and a Police check (which they said No - which I expected). They said you are consigning it to a coy, I said no I am trusting you !
I said if you take off with my watch, I need to know where you live etc so I come around and get it.
They dealer did not like this at all, BUT like you said I didn't really know the dealer at all, seemed nice But who knows. NEVER EVER CONIGN.
I just wanted to take a moment to say how amazing your video was! I was really impressed with the quality of the footage, the editing, and the overall presentation. You did a great job of explaining the topic in a clear and concise way, and I learned a lot from watching your video.
I also really appreciated the way you made the video engaging and entertaining. You kept my attention throughout the entire video, and I never felt bored or lost. I would definitely recommend your video to anyone who is interested in learning more about the video.
Thanks again for making such a great video! I look forward to watching more of your content in the future.

Great video Oisin, most informative and very interesting 👍
Fantastic work lots of people will benefit from this video great words of caution Love the shorter vids btw sometimes just can’t commit to to 90mins
I agree with everything you said about the grey market except the bit about possibly consigning to a close friend.
I used to buy and sell watches to a childhood friend who comes from a reputable and respected family of jewellers and watchmakers who've been around for generations.
He set up his own independent business and over the years I gave him valuable watches on consignment and never had a problem with payments.
One day I turned up at his shop to find that he had closed the business overnight and disappeared with my polar dial five digit Explorer II and my Tudor Black Bay Bronze. I later found out that he had become a heroin addict and that he did the same thing to countless other customers to fuel his addiction.
He has been disowned by his family and is now practically homeless! - My lawyer advised me to just put it down to experience and move on.
You live and you learn I guess!
Federico and Marc in just a couple of days. Good man.
Well put as additional aspects of what Federico said! Watched his vid earlier this morning.
Fed is a legitimate pre-owned watch dealer. Yourself and other watch TH-camrs need to understand the difference between grey-market dealers and pre-owned watch dealers. I’d never do business with grey-market dealers 😂 🤙🏻
Also, grey-market dealers are happy to deal with consignment, very few pre-owned watch dealers would go near the consignment model.
The most honest Watch World TH-cam video I have ever seen. Bravo.
ALSO, whenever selling on consignment, its possible that "someone" might monkey around with a few of the parts on the watch. Original manufacturer spare parts can be sold and are valuable. One really does not know what happens to a watch before it gets sold on consignment. This is another reason why its probably best to get paid the money up front instead of consignment sale.
excellent video including a valuable lesson in media literacy! hopefully, the people listen carefully… keep up the good work! 👍🏼
Outstanding Video. It's Good you and The very Few others, are Honest Enough to Educate the Masses.
On another Note: My Son (now 12 yrs old) and I Loved The Video you did on the Grand Seiko Chronograph GMT Spring Drive ("They been making these Watches for over 20 years? I'm going to be Sick")😅😅😅. We loved that part because my Son Knows just how Much I'm fascinated with my GS, The Same Watch you Show Cased in that video. That Video is Bad@$$, no matter what watch you would have Featured. Well Filmed, Great Music and Narrated. Bad@$$
CONsignment = Hybrid Unlicensed Pawn Shops playing the luxury watch consignment game
at the faithful customer's expense!!
Another excellent video. I love the way you edit in visuals that illustrate the point you are stating, such as the scene of the young man watching you on his phone.
Brilliant!!! “Para social relationship” and “asymmetric intimacy”… wicked smart! Thank you for explaining all this! You are 100% right and this is a wake up call for all of us! Thank you for being so honest!
Great informative video and when you see that shot of all those British TH-camrs sat with Antony ferra I bet they were gringing , sharks don’t bite other sharks
Very well handled and spoken. Took the high road and placed an in-depth reality above any added coloring. Time well spent watching.
Outstanding Video , I just sent an Omega Annual Calendar for service .After watching TPG Anthony I did get nervous, my watch was out there somewhere and I was waiting on a call. The dealer called me today and gave me the repair price . Anthony and I have one thing in common, he was an inmate and I was a prison Guard for 15 years. Sharks don't bite sharks is so true. Your best video was still with your daughter and the seiko Alpinist .
Sharks definitely bite sharks.
Thanks for your take on that subject.
Also - almost 100k - congrats !
This is the first time I've seen your channel and must say how professionally put together the content is.
Well put. Fine video, sir. Very educational. And yes, Fed is the boss.
Brilliant Oisin. No axe to grind, just well articulated insight.
Oisin! you bring up many valid points when considering consignment, personally! I would not even consider the idea.
Common sense spoken which nowadays seems to be scarce ! Loved the “sharks don’t bite sharks” brilliantly said.
Great information. I haven’t seen your videos before, but follow most of the others you talk about in this, so not sure how that’s happened …. Subscribed straight away 👍
Hi Oisin, I really enjoyed the episode from a wisdom perspective. It reminded me of a time many many years ago when I was a struggling uni student and I had to sell my 1978 Fender Stratocaster on consignment, just so I could pay my f’n rent. The god damn shop did not have my best interests in mind, and later pointed out imperfections to try and get me to lower the price to the prospective buyer. There is a classic line from Ray Liotta, in the movie ‘Revolver’ that people should bear in mind when engaging in ‘any’ business transaction from the perspective of both sides of the transaction: “what innit for me”?
The other issue Frederico raised is that it's not the float that dealers are looking for in consignments, but rather the more serious issue that they have cash flow issues, and do you really want to sell to a dealer that is borderline broke? Personally, as a collector I've never sold a watch, and certainly wouldn't put a watch on consignment, and have over the years built up a small collection of about 30 watches. Your discussion of influencers is interesting; e.g. I used to find Teddy B. credible and trustworthy in the past, but now that he's selling watches, I view his recommendations with a grain of salt.
Very good video, this is very interesting and a good explanation of the psychology. I really appreciate these more to the point informative videos but I know many people like the longer format ones also.
If, by longer, you mean the live streams, they’re just love streams. Not intended to be “real content”. Just interacting with the viewers.
Very good structured video Oisin... Good content as well.
very nicely and thoroughly explained Ush cheers. Also THE problem with consigning anything is they take a huge cut/fee for doing their bidding. would always always rather sell privately if possible. Federico shoots straight from the hip, appreciate that.
Oh wow! I saw you on a podcasts which included TPG some time ago. You were in Italy, flying solo having some awesome wine and. I thought to myself ‘this guy needs a TH-cam channel’ and I left it at that… so I am very happy to hear that you upload, I don’t care what you talk about because I know that you only talk about what you know about! I am a serial, full time learner and you are the sort of man I am keen to learn from.
You gotta new Sub man!
Really enjoyed this content and your analysis. It has been going on as long as advertising existed and that’s why bill boards with images of people were first done.
Just got back from a day trip from Padova to Venice and came back to this. Thanks for taking the time and effort to produce exceptionally interesting and honest content. August in Venice is to busy for me, but I will back. Beautiful place to be for sure!
Fantastic post! Well said. I never really looked at it that way but you’re 100% correct.
Not really - only consign stuff you would not stock
Sharks don't eat Sharks, very well put , quality broadcast as usual, don't hesitate to chum the waters Oisin,
Great video! It’s good that you help those who are too naive to understand better what these types of grey dealers are actually up to. Including the hype they create. I find it interesting how they were hyping up the “investment” side of watches, pushing up prices. And now they are cooling off, but still trying to justify hyped prices. Personally I think a lot of the AD arrogance was due to the grey market pushing up prices and hype.
Excellent content, as always. Thanks!
I've watched Scharf, Nico Leonard, and all those people. I can tell you, I don't trust any of them. They all seem sketchy to me (but I came out of business and am a lawyer). Federico seems like he could be alright but I still don't know him. Seems like a guy that just helps people who want to get into watch collecting. Plus I love the segments with Hans. In any event, I wouldn't trust any of them unless I've met them in person.
I’ve sold watches through and to Nicos team (I usually work with Gavin) and never had an issue. They don’t always give the best prices but sometimes they do. I used to deal with Marco at LB and don’t have anything bad to say but they are WAY low on price on every watch I offered.
@@TheBajamin good to know. Like I say, I’m always cautious of dealing with people, especially the pseudo-celebrities we see on TH-cam. If I trust someone though, they’ll get all my business.
Spot on Oisin. The sharks are out there and waiting. You just named a few in this video.
Brilliant video, utterly superb. One thing you failed to mention is this. I consign my watch to x dealer, he in turn consigns it to another grey dealer, and another, and another. All of a sudden you have no idea where who has your watch, what their Insurance arrangments are, and if one dominio in that chain falls, you are fucked. It happens all the time
Can't really say I was clued up on this. A word to the wise and very succinctly explained. Thanks Oisin. Mind you, arrested 40 times. Holy mackerel. If it walks likes a duck...
Great to see you again man..... you're obviously looking after yourself...
Very captivating and informative video. Great content…along with a great nom de plume 👍
Very informative! Thanks. Great channel
Tony the Tugger is now on the run.
Super content, made me think about content creators in general. I certainly get the business angle of being a you tuber and how that can both be a business and drive business. Your analysis made me think that content creators are probably narcissists more often than not craving the attention. I certainly don’t feel you are but curious your thoughts in general.
Thank you for the honesty, breath of fresh air
I love that Oisin uses American Beauty in this vid for analogies. At 17:06 Kevin Spacey's watch clasp appears to be on upside down and I can't unsee it.
Very polished performance Oisin 👌🏼 also with consignment a seller can have free stock if they have cash flow issues and give the watch back if the market collapses. The whole bling and bullshit image and projecting wealth while you’re poor is one reason I’ll never wear a Rolex. Some people can pull them off and just look natural but they are the weapon of choice for many people who are simply trying to look successful rather than actually being successful.
Fantastic video Oisin, I found it so insightful. Thank you 😊
Excellent and informative episode, Oisin. Thank you!
