I was in bluewater this Wednesday gone and popped into the Rolex ad as always to see if they had a new models and saw something I haven’t seen in over 5 years. 2 guys at separate desks both with a glass of beer paying for their Rolex’s they were just picking up. One looked like a 36mm mint green oyster date just the other looked like a 2 tone 41mm white dial datejust. I know these aren’t sports models but I do believe watches are becoming available because the market is flat.

That GMT obviously went to a high spending client who doesn’t bother with lists. On the stock front you’ll never get a steel watch on a walk in, or a bi-metal GMT. I was offered a black dial steel/gold Sky Dweller on an oyster a few months back, so there’s always a chance of something with gold. As you say though, pretty much every watch under £15k at any AD will have at least 5-10 people already on the list.
Actually there are 1446 worldwide dealers according to the Rolex website. 1 million watches produced divided by 1446 is 691 watches for each dealer per year. 13 per store per week on average. thats not a lot.

its still better putting your name down the day they announced the new steel gmt instead of waitintg 2 months till your appointment. if you joined the list when first announced you may of been 15th/20th in actual line now if you wait till july its likely your 40th/60th in line
If you have to wear a Rolex when visiting an AD to be even considered for buying a Rolex then you are frequenting seriously 💩 AD's I've never heard anything so absurd in my life.
I got my OP 41 Silver dial from Tourneau in NYC and only had to wait 30 days or so. First time buyer too. My AD was really nice and my entire experience was enjoyable. Guess I got lucky.
Swiss watch shop in the Royal Exchange is a good shop. I've purchased 2 watches in the last 6 months. Good lads & you can haggle with them! Ramsdens is shite!

Small family owned AD’s know exactly what allocations they have for each model every year. One that I’m in contact with said that all steel models are spoken for until 2025, Submariner was 2026. Ask about GMT’s or Daytona’s and they will just laugh you out the door. I was offered a slot for this year on a black dial explorer 2, I turned it down.
That red Submariner on the pawn shop window looked fake or some kind of frankenwatch. You can see how the winding crown is positioned too low between the crown guards. The crown looked weird too. How can they sell those? I thought it was illegal.
Picked up a DateJust 41 blue dial from Goldsmiths in the Bull ring Birmingham, The lady on the phone only gave me 48hrs to come and pick up the Watch. Once I had paid for the watch the chap who served me said we have now got a relationship and if i would like to register for anymore watches. I did say to him, do i have to wait another two years and he laughed.
Don’t believe the hype. The watch market is floating upside down in a backyard swimming pool. Just avoid AD’s which sell inventory via the back door. Don’t come across as a flipper. Let them know you mean business. Get your name on a list provided such a thing exists and you’ll hear back from them sooner than you think.

Sat down with my AD last weekend and the market is slow. I got offered a no date Sub which was on my registration and turned it down and took it off my registration moving forward.

Always remember no such thing as a waiting list, if a well known celeb walks in they'll soon rustle up some inventory or you go in there and spend thousands on other items all of a sudden that so called waiting list becomes a lot shorter

There are so shit ton of Rolex watches available at a premium on grey market and grey dealers. There has to be a bubble? No one buys watches. Seems like I was the only one in both Tudor and Rolex groups lately in Denmark. 😂 I asked in an enthusiast group of both of great and recommended models. Yet 90% of the ones writing me are offering watches. I’m only buying from ADs 😂 well not Rolex because you can’t get one: so Tudor and omega it was
The watch market is dead and a new Tudor or Omega will lose a fortune as you walk out the door but a Rolex won’t. So the irony is more people want a Rolex because the market is dead.
The problem is these guys think this the correction will revert back up so they’ll just sit on the inventory until the glut in the secondary gets sold.
Thanks Brendan for confirming that Rolex AD's are still playing the Pandemic games. The Demand in China, Hing Kong, and Russia markets are way off. Yet the gray market has plenty of new and unworn inventory.
Mate, don’t be a sucker they have plenty of watches in the safe, I’ll bet they have submariners, the odd Batman and a handful of DJ’s etc. They are still playing the mock scarcity game because they don’t want to let any of those watches go at RRP without milking you of several other purchases first. They know they can, so they will. That’s how it works in 2024, do not be so naive. I’ve got two real life AD stories that would demonstrate what I’m saying but I’d ending up writing a long essay here.
@@BrendanBoswell they absolutely do mate it’s a big game and I can’t believe you can’t see it, I’ve bought a Polar Explorer 2 and a 40mm Explorer in the last 6 months. The polar I bought from an AD in Cardiff where I’d been on the list for over 2 years for that watch (had a 15k purchase history there). Had called in a couple of times last year and they said it was one of the harder to get models and it wasn’t possible, blah blah blah. Then walked in with my wife one day and she happened to know the Rolex agent from years back and they got talking. My wife told him I was a collector and a customer there and he asked me was there anything I was looking for. Went out the back and grabbed me the Explorer 2. Just like that. No sports watches in the window and only exhibition models. If I’d gone in on my own it would have been the same old story, but because he”d worked with my wife years ago, he went and grabbed me the watch. The Explorer 40mm was even easier and I bought it in March, in a very popular holiday resort in Spain. Walked into the AD there and I couldn’t believe my eyes, they had about 20 decent watches for sale including a handful of stainless sports. They told me they didn’t run waiting lists and that they put the watches in the window. I’m not sure I believe they would put a GMT or Daytona in the window but that day they had both 36 & 40mm Explorers, an Air King and a Seadweller for sale as walk-ins. They even had a stainless DJ41 with mint green dial for sale plus a few two tone subs and the like. I’ll be going back there in the future so I’m not going to ruin my own future chances by naming the AD and the resort location. Both true stories.
Don’t buy a Rolex on the Grey Market at inflated prices. If you really want one, just invest the money, get on a wait list and wait to get the watch you want. Rolex has mastered the marketing tactic of the “allure of the thing you can’t have”. It wasn’t that long ago you could just walk in and buy whatever you wanted (Daytona’s excluded) which is how I bought my Explorer and GMT. Those days will return, just wait for the next recession. Rolex’s really aren’t that special and they have got worse in the last few years, now you feel worried wearing one for your safety. I used to wear mine all the time, and now I don’t due to the higher risk of getting mugged.

If you walk in wearing a Rolex cap - That's an AD gift and you told them you have a relationship with another AD, why would they serve you? Shows you're not loyal, unless you have a genuine complaint about the other AD, spend money with them, you'll be on their radar and you're showing commitment. Surely they're better off targeting a new customer and someone who's going to be long term. They do run a business with wages, rent and other overheads - I'm sure they've got loads in the safe - They usually do. If you want to buy retail, you have to play their game, if you don't want the faff then go grey and pay a premium but save time and money in the long term and get what you actually want - Simple logic. Also just popping in regularly and saying hi works - actually building a relationship. They see countless people like you daily and couldn't give a damn - People who walk in and never come back. Next time show them your Rolex pants lol

2 ADs here in Atlanta have told me a Explorer 2 Polar is harder to get than a Sub. Production of Explorer 2 Polar is microscopic per both ADs

It is an illusion created by the AD's to get you to buy something you do not want first. There is inventory in the safe for sale, but not for a first time customer.

No one buys watches. Seems like I was the only one in both Tudor and Rolex groups lately in Denmark. 😂 I asked in an enthusiast group of both of great and recommended models. Yet 90% of the ones writing me are offering watches.

Getting a Rolex from a AD dealer is fine if you like paying to get kicked in the balls for the pleasure of buying a watch.
The watch market is dead and a new Tudor or Omega will lose a fortune as you walk out the door but a Rolex won’t. So the irony is more people want a Rolex because the market is dead.
The problem is these guys think this the correction will revert back up so they’ll just sit on the inventory until the glut in the secondary gets sold.
Thanks Brendan for confirming that Rolex AD's are still playing the Pandemic games. The Demand in China, Hing Kong, and Russia markets are way off. Yet the gray market has plenty of new and unworn inventory.
Mate, don’t be a sucker they have plenty of watches in the safe, I’ll bet they have submariners, the odd Batman and a handful of DJ’s etc. They are still playing the mock scarcity game because they don’t want to let any of those watches go at RRP without milking you of several other purchases first. They know they can, so they will. That’s how it works in 2024, do not be so naive. I’ve got two real life AD stories that would demonstrate what I’m saying but I’d ending up writing a long essay here.

@@BrendanBoswell they absolutely do mate it’s a big game and I can’t believe you can’t see it, I’ve bought a Polar Explorer 2 and a 40mm Explorer in the last 6 months. The polar I bought from an AD in Cardiff where I’d been on the list for over 2 years for that watch (had a 15k purchase history there). Had called in a couple of times last year and they said it was one of the harder to get models and it wasn’t possible, blah blah blah. Then walked in with my wife one day and she happened to know the Rolex agent from years back and they got talking. My wife told him I was a collector and a customer there and he asked me was there anything I was looking for. Went out the back and grabbed me the Explorer 2. Just like that. No sports watches in the window and only exhibition models. If I’d gone in on my own it would have been the same old story, but because he”d worked with my wife years ago, he went and grabbed me the watch. The Explorer 40mm was even easier and I bought it in March, in a very popular holiday resort in Spain. Walked into the AD there and I couldn’t believe my eyes, they had about 20 decent watches for sale including a handful of stainless sports. They told me they didn’t run waiting lists and that they put the watches in the window. I’m not sure I believe they would put a GMT or Daytona in the window but that day they had both 36 & 40mm Explorers, an Air King and a Seadweller for sale as walk-ins. They even had a stainless DJ41 with mint green dial for sale plus a few two tone subs and the like. I’ll be going back there in the future so I’m not going to ruin my own future chances by naming the AD and the resort location. Both true stories.

Don’t buy a Rolex on the Grey Market at inflated prices. If you really want one, just invest the money, get on a wait list and wait to get the watch you want.
Rolex has mastered the marketing tactic of the “allure of the thing you can’t have”. It wasn’t that long ago you could just walk in and buy whatever you wanted (Daytona’s excluded) which is how I bought my Explorer and GMT. Those days will return, just wait for the next recession.
Rolex’s really aren’t that special and they have got worse in the last few years, now you feel worried wearing one for your safety. I used to wear mine all the time, and now I don’t due to the higher risk of getting mugged.
I hear there are 3 million replicas floating in the United States watch market. Rolex are too easy to fake.

If you walk in wearing a Rolex cap - That's an AD gift and you told them you have a relationship with another AD, why would they serve you? Shows you're not loyal, unless you have a genuine complaint about the other AD, spend money with them, you'll be on their radar and you're showing commitment. Surely they're better off targeting a new customer and someone who's going to be long term. They do run a business with wages, rent and other overheads - I'm sure they've got loads in the safe - They usually do. If you want to buy retail, you have to play their game, if you don't want the faff then go grey and pay a premium but save time and money in the long term and get what you actually want - Simple logic. Also just popping in regularly and saying hi works - actually building a relationship. They see countless people like you daily and couldn't give a damn - People who walk in and never come back. Next time show them your Rolex pants lol
