While I totally agree with your points on this and would never dream of owning a sports car with anything but a manual, I can empathize with people who love cars and don’t love the manual transmission. It’s extra work, not as fast like you said, and probably not as smooth in many cases (Although I’m sure many of us can outdo the R-Tronic 🤣). Some people like to enjoy their cars with less effort, and I respect that.
However, I am not one of those people. 🙂 Just like you, I find it to be all about the experience rather than the speed, and the pleasure of a well-executed gear change or a heel-toe downshift is so satisfying that I don’t care how much slower or less consistent it is. It’s just more fun for me!
You’re spot on too that exotics with manual transmissions will continue to climb in value. The 4.2 R8 has always been my dream car and ultimately got me into cars which led me to motorcycles, so I owe a lot to it. I think I’ll be in the market finally towards the end of the year, hopefully appreciation stops until early next year for my sake, then it can go to the moon 😂
Great video, as always! Nothing quite like the sound of that throaty V8 and the clacking of the gated shifter.

We are on the same wavelength 😎 Completely agree. Very true some people just like to have a no frills experience and that’s fine :)

I agree with you, for my first car I saved up enough to split a 2007 Lexus IS250 6MT with my dad, and it has been an incredible car. It makes the driving experience a lot better, especially in a car with less power. The only time I ever advise to skip the manual is when the transmission is weak, I know some Mustangs with the horrible manual transmission that would always blow up. So if you are looking for a manual, always do your research on if its up to snuff to hold the power of the car. Another example is the Veloster N, where there are big gear grinds in 5th and 6th gear with the manual.

I got my IS250 in manual. Very rare for the year (2011). I love it!

Very rare to see these cars in manual. Interesting how does it drive with a stick shift? Probably makes it even more enjoyable.

@@carswithsonduren There's a long thread from 2006 on Club Lexus hating on the manual transmission. I find it easy to shift and very smooth. Also it makes it a different car IMO--much more enjoyable. Although I've never driven an automatic IS250 so I don't know.

As long as you love it that’s all that matters :-)

AMAZING Man for real, I'll admit I'm a bit intimidated by driving a stick but have always wanted to master it because it opens up options and, as you said, you're connected to the car. Well done!

You definitely can get over that. Once your shifting your going to be loving it!

When I came to Canada for higher studies...I had so many expectations about getting to drive awesome vehicles but all of them I know like inifinitis, Lexus and Audi's are all automatic and I was disappointed and people ask me why you want a manual ...but now I can see some one agrees with me

DSGs require shop only tools for sure since the gear box has to be taken out.

What is this type of manual gearbox called where you can see which gear it is in? You know how it has the trail on it? Instead of when it’s covered by a cloth?

I love it, just got mine, a 2008 manual R8 32k km. Question though: What phone holder are you using? I'm still struggling to find a good one.

@@carswithsonduren Thank you sir! Mine is a Black on Black with Carbon side blades and interior. Similar to yours. And alcantara headliner and leather on the right places (=every else) is finishes the look. Having to deal with some corrosion issues on the front trunk, as it is just out of the warranty. Planning to bring it up to spec, getting it detailed and coated.
Your videos were one of the reason why i decided to go for the R8 and gated manual. Thanks!

What do you call the gear shift boot platform. I hate the rubber ones that arent labeled.

I have R8 with the same specs. Manual makes all the difference. I just changed transmission and front diff oil, this is overlooked way too often.

When is the recommended maintenance interval for this change? Not sure if mine has ever been done.

bro you literally said nothing abuot why I should choose a manual except "you're connected to the car". Why is a manual better? with the additional control what is better? When does convenience trump control? Does this mean you would drive a car without a manual engine starter like the old days, coz that connects you to the car even more?

You said if you don't know how to drive a manual, go and learn how to do it. So my question is do you guys go for your driving licence test in automatic cars?

    • @carswithsonduren
      @carswithsonduren  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yes and good to learn in an open parking lot with an experienced driver at night time.
