    There's something very down-to-earth about your energy and thorough delivery. There's something clearly "rich guy into music production" about your gear (so many input/output modules??? A bunch of Neve and Apollo gear!) But you make up for it by coming across as a real dude.

    Thanks, Mr Theatre .. nice share.
    I would hazard to say, .. since, these tools are pretty powerful, .. the reality is that it takes more time to learn how to use it, effectively .. which, it appears you're well on the way, to doing.

    Is the DI Box really needed? I plug out from a Vermona twinOUT into my interface with a XLR cable.

    • @DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE
      @DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey thanks for stopping by. So regarding DI, I think 1. if you are running a long unbalanced cable, like more than 10-15 feet or longer, it can benefit (noise/signal degradation) 2. If you have an unbalanced signal, like most synths, and you want to hit a balanced PRE, it will benefit by hitting your PRE , A/D with a strong signal 3. Some DI boxes can impart some character. It’s a pretty simple A/B test that show either small or significant improvement, based your entire chain. But like all thing audio, I’d trust your ears and whatever works for your workflow. :) I’m sure there are others who can comment also on this subject. If you are running something like a vermona where it’s already doing a lot of things to get proper balanced signal, your’re probably all good?

    • @BlackMan614
      @BlackMan614 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You do realize the vermona twinout IS a DI box? From their website: "This DI-box in a module offer two adjustable electronically balanced XLR-outputs. twinOut is designed for full stereophonic or dual mono use."

    I've been looking at my other modular system - my garden - for inspiration with respect to closed and open systems. Currently, the workflow is not great...but still fun. I hope you continue to revisit this concept as it is great food for thought. You are very systems oriented (holistically) and that rules.

    I have tried so many things and finally got away from a midi clock device. I have a midi track in ableton with 8 trigger tracks. Abletons extrenal instrument sends these to my rme babyface pro and from there via midi cable to my Erica trigg. There are the 8 triggers as trigger outputs. Often I use just 16th notes as clock input for my performer. this is then perfectly in time and the remaining triggers I take for my drums from queen of pentacles. I also use the midi in out jacks from the performer and an old xsession device for daw integration of midi in out and cv. 8 in & out audio signals go from the modular system into a marian adcon and from there with 2 optical cables back into the babyface. this works perfectly for midi+cv and audio in both directions.

      Instead of sending instrument tracks or pulses for clock and triggers, you can also use ableton cv tools. I send/receive a clock with cv tools to/from my eurorack system for example and with a dc coupled audio interface (I think rme is one - I´ve an Apollo 16), you can send/receive cv signals directly to your modular, without a converter in between - cheers!

      @@jimicob9143 oh sure and with the adcon device it´s no problem to do cv and audio. I use reason very often for sending cv stuff....but for the clock i´m so happy with the solution i found. you know, i sufferd with this clock shit for so long, it starts with may maschinedrum in 2004 and ended up in the eurorack. It was never tight enough for me and switching the audiobuffer size oder some random stuff happend each time i started my daw, so you had to compensate the delay of the clock. Now it´s like heaven. so thight and i can use any time division i want, just by changing one clip in ableton, or i can change or groove the clock in a single project. And i can use simple midi cables and no usb which is also a good thing ;-)

    What a banger video. I have 4 cases of eurorack which I haven’t used in a number of years due to the rat-race everyday work to pay the bills. There’s a light at one end of my tunnel: time to be creative again. I need to relearn how to use my modules, and just watching ur vids is so incite-full and exciting to begin again. Thx!

    I'm more of an FH-2, ES-9 guy.... But if you're just bouncing one track to audio etc, may not be worth it.
    Outboard audio of course can be hybrid mixed later, but many ways to skin a cat.

    It's pretty unlikely that eurorack signals would damage your audio interface. Of course it's best to check and make sure but most can handle it.

    Hey i know this is old man but how do you use your pedals with eurorack? Do set up a send and return on your apollo in post after you already made your eurorack lick or do you like to apply fx while jamming? If so for jamming how do you send fx into eurorack? Thanks

      @@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE thanks for responding. Not many content creators do. Is it a mono i/o by chance? If you want stereo i can recommend a couple. Knob farm ferry is what i use. There is also strymon aa.1 as well.
      I also saw that you were using the intellijel i/o for going in an out of eurorack. How do you like it? Does it give enough boost to line level signals going in? You probably already know this but my favorite for going in and out is the Joranalogue Receive and transmit 2. The receive is a great input module with a good clean preamp to boost signals going in especially for guitar and synths and mics but it doesnt have phantom power. Transmit is great as well for getting out but is only xlr outs and has headphone output. Just a thought. Awesome stuff you do. Keep it up.!

    • @DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE

      @@joeymc5272 You need 2 if you want to run Stereo pedals. Yeah. There are a handful of I/O that step up and down eurorack signal. Intellijel works great. I also have Endorphin.es Cockpit that outputs signals to line level. I have occasionally ran into ground loops when outputting from eurorack to line level due to guitar pedal power supply and other issues so you have to be careful about your gain staging and generally need DI boxes and such. I'd add one thing at a time so you can isolate ground loops and hums when you encounter them.

    I send the outputs of my Eurorack modules straight into a 16 channel input mixer using 3.5mm to 6.3mm cables, not all mixers can handle it perhaps but I found mine does it very well and it saves me from buying yet another 'bridge'. Then through USB I have all sound generators available to me on separate channels inside my DAW for further processing, mostly effects.
    I love your studio setup and would not mind hearing a few more talks with demo music from your cave.
