    One of the most important parts of VCV RACK FREE for me is that it is free, to be clear the free version has no limit put on it further than you have to use it as a separate program as apposed to a plugin. I cant afford a modular system and that is a barrier for a lot of people.

    Excellent study - thanks for sharing. The set-up looks ideal even down to the cabals, I know lots of cables distracts me. So I am about to rebuild my set-up to include Perkons (will insert some effects using the I/O), Push 3, Digitakt 2, Zen Delay and OTO BAM. I will use Push 3 as controller (not standalone) and have the MacBook sitting away not even been seen!. Will only dive into Live when needed. Want to spend most of my time, experimenting with sound and having the ability to swap out the DT2 and or the Perskons for alternate hardware). Record and sample (don't have an audio interface and the Push 3 does + ADAT). The Push 3 becomes my suitcase to store and arrange my recordings and samples. I truely want to learn the perform the Perkons and that is a masterpiece! So it will be; 1. Push 3 as a controller - Ableton Live (MacBook Pro not to be seen!) 2. Perkons (swappable with LRX/Syntakt) 3. DT2 (swappable with whatever I want to add) 4. Hardware effects rack/section (again allowing for additions/swap-ability) currently Zen Delay/OTO BAM/AH+FX (this is too bulky) so might just keep the Zen Delay and add Erica Synths Night Verb and remove the rest. 5. Lastly a small midi controller (faders/knobs) to map to the Push 3 macros and internal effects for live performance. My space is minimal so need to keep everything minimal including cabling and power supplies.

    Don’t forget VCV rack. It’s free and and incredible. Most of Instruo’s modules are available with it for free, mutable interments as well, and you can pay for ALM modules if you feel like it. Spend that initial learning time here, but don’t type or undo knob turns if you plan to move to hardware. Who knows VCV rack maybe what you wanted anyway and you can buy the full version to integrate into your daw for $150 which less than some real modules.

      I’d recommend it to get inspired by it? I’d use it for live gigs? But for studio work, i guess it depends on the type of studio work. It’s a “narrow” ish type of tool so I’m happy that serves as another “paint” brush but it wouldn’t be like my first or only drum/synth. Maybe like my 5th or 6th? Similar to the Pulsar. Hope this helps!

If you have more modules than that, you didn’t plan you eurorack properly OR you want it to do everything. Eurorack should be planned to do something specific and not be an swiss army knife.

    I can confirm. I've been in and out of it twice, and the cost over time is insanity. It can be the most fun and freeing way of making music you'll ever find, but you can get bored of the oscillators or filter, and getting new stuff is always a bunch of $. Then you have to sell to fund it, and the loop starts over. If you have endless money and space, go nuts, but otherwise you have to learn a lot of self-discipline, and find ways to avoid the synthfluencers, the forums and the synth sites. This stuff is like sugar.

    Personally, I stopped selling on Reverb because I was tired of “musicians” making a purchase, using the gear to play with or even use it to do some recording, and then claim it is “faulty” and returning the item. Typically they keep it for 2-3 weeks and then try to file for a return. 99% of the time the item return in perfect working condition. Like I said, they buy it knowing they will return it when they are done using it for whatever short-term thing they need it for.

    I pre-ordered the black version a month ago. Do you think the Syntrx II is one of the best companions for the Perkons, or would you recommenced another synth? To be clear, I make lower BPM type music, along the lines of experimental ambient, to 90's era hip hop. I also own a decent collection of gear, so niche is good. I'm looking for something weird like the Syntrx II, or something else in that vein. I also want something that's very tweakable, without too much menu diving when jamming. Sound quality is very important. I would prefer to stay under $3k USD. I'm also not against buying something used, so if the market is under $3k used, that would be cool. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    • @DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE
      @DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm I'm not sure if Syntrx II is a companion of sorts for the Perkons other than physically feeling similar and made by the same company? Certainly they would look super nice side by side in both black? Syntrx II a very capable box and I certainly enjoyed it. The only downside for me personally was the matrix patching, which was a little slow for me personally. I much prefer just physical patching (tho matrix patching is way more flexible and in some ways can do things physical patching can't do). So I guess it would depend on how much you like Syntrx II patching UI. If you are used to that, than it feels like a winner.

    I have a BIA but I think its a bit overrated. It can do kicks, mids, and even high hats. But i don't find any of them great. Changing the timbre of the BIA effects it very quickly - too quickly - only a narrow window for subtlety. Because of how aggressively digital it can sound, it makes a lot of smaller eurorack cases sound the same - but not in a great way. The DFAM also sounds so DFAM to me, you can pick it out. But a DFAM sounds great, albeit thats a different form factor - i just bring it up because of recognisability.

    The honesty in your video is great. It reminds me a little of something I always think about when it comes to people being described as "best of" in fields of practice where there is a high entry cost or payment to play. Could it be that they are considered so great because they are only competing against a small handful of people. Like I wonder if if the greatest potentials for talent are too poor to get their foot in the door. Great video, I like your unique approach instead of the mindless duplicatations I see all over youtube.

    I dig finding people with info like this, keep up the good work, functional yet organized and clean

    My space is so badly in need of a complete tear down and rebuild. I’ve patched and shoehorned new things into the same small configuration for far too long. I dread the process but I’m sure it will be worth it.
