Erica Synths makes a bold claim. But companies can't declare their product, an instrument. Rather it's up to musicians and composers. It must stand the test of time. INCONVENIENT EURORACK MODULAR SYNTHS MAY BE THE ANSWER TO YOUR CREATIVE WOES!
Behold! The video that finally convinced me to get a Perkons! Thanks DMT, you’re ace. 🎉
Oh man… I don’t know if I want to take credit for getting people to spend money but, congrats :)
A year and a half later, what's the verdict? Still in use or sold down the road?! Really enjoy your channel.
Thanks so much! Sold it! :(
@@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE Thank you for the update. Much appreciated.
I started with a semi modular synth, a Behringer Neutron, and bought a case and a few modules and built the thing up slowly, a eurorack compatible semi modular synth is a great way to start, because you already have the basics and a solid foundation to build on. I think you are totally right though, spend slowly, otherwise you just end up overwhelmed with it all and never learn half your modules well.
Reverb absolutely frauded me after a six month wait for a strat i purchased. They outright lie , and sent me fraudulent shipping documents. They're being investigated for fraud by USPS . DO NOT BUY FROM REVERB !!
Hi, what are the modules right above Pamelas Workout, Basimilus Iteritas Aler and Plonk? Thank you
Those are Intellijel 1u’s - Low Pass Gate, VCA, and Noise Tools! Thanks for stopping by! ;)
Nice music. The drums are maybe a little too in your face given the other instruments.
Thank you for the feedback! :)
Euroracks are cool an all, but... on the other hand I can get Arturia V Collection X for under 200e on Black Friday sales.
I respect that! Something about hardware tho. Unpredictable, tactile, goes out of tune… in a good way(at least analog synths) I’m working on a direct comparison of working with a plugin moog versus the model D and I gotta say, the model D has almost all the convenience of a plugin but it’s so much more interesting. Also the highs (even a $250 hardware clone) to me just sounds more present and the bass has more punch. It’s slight and it’s noticeable. When I post this video, I’ll let you know! Anyway! Appreciate the comment
My recommendation for the first 5 modules would at least be a granular synth. One of my first modules was Typhoon and it’s still a center piece in my rig.
That’s also an excellent choice!
While searching for videos on Intellijel modules, I came across your channel and happily subscribed. Is that entire modular jam available yet? Would love to see/hear it 🙂
Hey thanks for stopping by! Yeah it's recorded but have not uploaded yet. I'll let you know when it does...
I think you are spot on. I own a Starlab and although think it is great at what it does it just is bit to big when HP is at a premium. Not knocking it as I do love what it can do. I just wonder if i could of purchased something else smaller that does all that I need as I don't push the Starlab far enough. Maybe that is it, I liked the look and sound of it but for what I need I could of gotten something smaller and maybe cheaper. We will see.
Yeah it was their first one and I just feel like they missed the mark a bit. Again Strymon is a legendary company but it was their first foray into the eurorack world and I think it was some kind of “dip your toe” into a new market leveraging existing tech dev. I get it but a few more thought into physical footprint and a more well thought out feature set, even if it’s one or two would have been nice. It’s possible they understood the market is super niche tho.
Bump is NOT needed
Sir, for gaming, movies and music, i have two choices, hd560s or akg k702, if you have any idea, do recommend, i know that 702 has the widest soundstage and only hd800s has more wider soundstage in comparison to 702
I own both although there are quite a few versions of “702”’s that do sound different from one another. I own the “blue” anniversary edition which does sound a bit different from some others. Yeah 702s have a nice wide stage I think at the expense of some lows and low mids, which I say it’s worth it at that price range. I say it’s bigger competition is the Sen Hd 650’s which also has a nice stage tho I think slightly narrower. But I think sonically more accurate. The nice thing about both is that they are very pleasant and doesn’t give to ear fatigue. So I recommend trying out the Sen 650’s and compare them with the 702’s I think they are similar in price
@@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE thanks for the reply, i am from india and i ordered 560s, akg k702 is cheaper, 650 is too expensive
I'm the one buying your silly whim purchases. I don't sell because I buy what I really want. Buying decisions are rarely pressured with music gear. Months can go by. It's amazing how the 'must have' stuff gets forgotten with the filter of time. Now apply that to the rest of your life. Then you'll join the group referred to as 'its ok for them'. Don't forget you don't pay tax on the money you save, or commission/depreciation on the junk you sell.
“Filter of time” is a wise observation! Thanks for sharing
Summary. Stupid people make stupid decisions. They like to blame others.
That intro is wild🎉 Im trying to start my adventure, but didnt wantvto buy sometimes that I regret, so ive watched a lot of videos and think your list are the go to main stream sollid big player modules... will buy at lest one (or a clone like pixie from after later).. 🎉
Awesome! Stay safe! Especially your wallet! 😅
Don't get this kind of video, just BS and useless.
If you have more MI modules, you should do some more of these minimal skiffs, very interesting,
beautiful review !
Yep I’m with you bro….the hefty buyer’s and seller’s add-on costs such as Reverb fees-sales taxes, shipping, etc. are outrageous!😮. We as a society are practically taxed to death!
as an owner of small moduar syth, i say it it is true! pick more complex modules for your synth and how to use it with what u have
Not only is the buyer and seller paying taxes, you pay taxes again when they 1099 you
Ever try guitar pedals?
It's a tricky one, I think for melodic stuff I prefer the deckard's a lot, but if I was making drums or something I'd prefer the atlantis
This was an old video and def it was a silly apples to oranges comparison but it was fun nevertheless. In many ways, with the recently “backlash” against VST type synthesizers, it feeling pretty good about still owning modules! 😅😅😅
My friends, please also consider getting into LZX modular video synthesizers.
FYI; VCV rack is a free open source eurorack simulator for your computer (Mirack for apple ipad). So you can try doing without spending money. Although it not easy to hook up the cables as the real thing.
Lol I watched this video when I was first getting into Eurorack. After thousands of dollars spent later, I feel I would've been better off listening to this guy's advice. I sold half my rig and giant case, and now have only a small Tiptop Happy Ending case full of only the modules I absolutely need. I caution anyone trying to get into this to really research each module you want to buy and to ensure you save money and get only what is necessary. It's a fun hobby, but buying excessive amounts of modules means you won't have time to learn the modules you already have.
Covid/ stimulus checks/ it was the perfect storm for YOLO gear hoarding. Ahhh, it was the best of times and it was the worst of times. 😅
this is very inspiring. though I've watched a good deal of your vids... I don't think I realized until this one that you're a total funkhead. nice!! very tight jams. modern funk done really well!! bravo!!
Appreciate the kind words - tho the soundtrack for this video I cannot take credit for as it was licensed music from epidemics sound. But yes, I’m a big fan of modern funk obviously!
@@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE aaaah... the music I've heard you make in vids is always very cinematic type stuff. &, so, I've always figured that's what you do. (much like many of the rest of us out here.) then I hear all this funk... I'm like... dang!! okay!! many facets. but, yes... actually producing the funk or not, as long as it's in our mix, & in our system, then... we are informed, & connected to the mothership. ;-)
don't offer to pay for any return shipping. "buyers" will return everything with the excuse that your ad was misleading. meanwhile, they give nothing and use your gear for free. ask me how I know
You're not going to talk me out of it!
Haha!
You’re not deterred, I’m deterred! Um, no, wait 🤭. I’m slowly learning the value of higher priced modules that not only do more with more features but also take up less space. It’s a steep learning curve! Also, who would have thought that patch cables can be one of the biggest buy-ins 😱. Thanks for the vid!
It's close to "play" as a pronunciation...It means "pleases"
Right! 🙏
What about Atlantis vs Atlantix?
oh man... if Intellijel would send me one. need. to. stop. buying. gear... :)
Quite probably the most insightful perkons review on TH-cam ! Nice work 🤛
Too kind! Thank you! 🙏
The perkons is such a beast! Desperately trying to resist but it keeps calling my name 🙉
it's a siren song.. don't fall for it! :)
el manual es pésimo :(
I’m either Deadpool or this shot didn’t go in Deadpool depending on the day and state of the stock market. Just learn what modules do before buying modules. It’s not easy saving money is it? The learning curve is not for little kids. (Okay, it’s for little kids but only the ones who’s parents will ball & chain them to the Eurorack case for pretty much their entire childhood) but my point is that this hobby will challenge it’s community to be frugal, patient, and totally creative if they want to achieve their results. Great video! It was really good and helpful.
:)
My 20 year old Mackie VLZ mixer has two stereo aux returns, no DSP and the gain sounds like a Big Muff. I’m being a smart ass. That mixer is dope.
Love the Mackie and I have own a couple of small mackies for sub mixing synths.
Orthogonal Devices - ER-301 Make Noise - Morphagene Der Mann Mit Der Machine - Droid XOR - Nerdseq Make Noise - Mimephon
Great video as always. I’m always jealous of your great lead work. Then it hit me when you said you’re a keyboard guy. Your beats are super basic, thin and lack imagination 💭 😢. all good I’m a drummer. Great content champ
Beats and drum programming are def my weakest but I’m trying to not shy away from it and just put it out there for feedback. Since it doesn’t come naturally for me, I tend to phone it in. It just occurred to me that I should spend the most time on it!! But instead I find myself spending a whole lot more time on my keys 🎹 when honestly I probably don’t need to. Again thanks for the great feeback
Using the zen Delay is a total dream. Its a pain to work that into the DAW workflow though. My reverb is the Walrus Audio R1 and it sounds amazing but definitely not tweakable on the fly
As much as I love the H90, I think the zen delay makes more performance sense yep!
wow I didnt know that the Model1 had zero crossing. I love mine even more now rofl. What that does is wait for the wave form to be at the crossing zero position on the wave form. IE the center line, Zero amplitude. This will guarantee that there is no pop or click if the filter was engaged when the waveform was at a peak. It will just wait for the waveform to cross zero again. I have a Reliq on preorder :)
Nice! Appreciate the insight!!
funny i was asking myself the same question about if i expand my live from the palette 62 to a 7u 84 performance case... thanks for sharing your take on it!
Thanks for stopping by!
Another fantastic video! Love the song
Sounds very nice. You’ve got a good handle on the mix and look ready to put in some excellent work. It’s cool hearing quality piano playing alongside the euro rig. Are you mixing drums in the laptop, or via the hardware mixer? I’d rec the UA Ampex for smoothing the mids of the snare - its only $39 right now. Seems you’re mixing hardware, though, which looks super fun. It’s a versatile setup. Good luck.
Thanks so much for stopping by. For sure the mix is all over the place but I do need help with just hearing drum mixes better. I struggle with all of it. The drums are on the laptop. Any advice on improving drum mixes? I’ve a classical background so while I can hear great drum mixes, when it comes to my own, I have a hard time hearing it. :( I feel like I exaggerate the mids on snare because some how I think that makes it punchy. But it’s possible I’m overdoing it. Much appreciated!
I love your light scene 🎬
Please make a video touring your studio.
There is one here - the new studio, not quite a full tour - but pretty close. Moving My Home Studio Tour. So. Much. Pain! th-cam.com/video/ETxgtHbO65U/w-d-xo.html
I buy "wherever" I can get a deal I find acceptable, but I try and always sell on Craigslist. I'd rather take the "lower" price there and have no paper trail or taxes. It usually comes out about the same profit or more.
I found Craigslist requires a bit more effort because of the face to face interaction and when you are listing a lot of gear, that can be an issue. But yeah, Craigslist is a great resource!
When I see modules lile these, I realize how little my setup actually is. This is amazing.
I got into Eurorack because I stream content and my viewers like blinky lights and music. I also have a server rack sitting next to me with a 3u 84hp eurorack system in it that's gonna get filled out and a camera attached.
Yeah… eurorack - irl screensaver 🙃
No Filter inside ? Or did i overlooked something? Thanks
If you're asking if I should have included a filter module, yeah probably .. :(
