      Squadron 42 just might. I've very high hopes that it is going to be a true spiritual successor not bound by any constraints. I think SC will be a cool MMO, but it is an MMO and all MMO's suffer from certain game mechanics I don't particularly enjoy.

      As a kid, back in '94 or '95, I saw the longbox for this game featured in Babbage's a lot. I always thought "hey, that's Luke Skywalker and Sallah." I also felt quite jealous that my Sega CD couldn't have big budget titles that were half the game of this. We got Corey Feldman in Double Switch, Blair Underwood in Sewer Shark, or some no-name in something like Loadstar or Tomcat Alley.
      Sure, Wing Commander 3 is very cheesy in spots, but it has its charm. Honestly, I would consider its cheesiness much closer to that of Babylon 5 than I would in comparing Sega CD FMV games to Battlestar Galactica (the 80s version).

Now, considering the biggest floppy i knew of could have 2 megabytes (But the 1.4 meg one was the common one), while CD-s had around 650 megabytes if i recall right. Truly one of the best games in history, memorable to this day. Once the Wing Commander series ended, it was a huge loss. As excited as I was to see the movie in theaters, that Wing Commander movie was a disappointment, nothing like the games.
    I remember WC3 was shot using a green screen and green controls. WC4, was shot using a real set. Malcolm McDowell talked about going to the super market and kids running up to him calling him "Admiral Tolwin".
    When Electronic Arts got the series there was one more Wing Commander game, but it wasn't the same, nothing like WC3 and WC4. I think they killed it, they lost touch of the concept of the series being an interactive movie with movie music and all the trimmings. WC3 and WC4 did it right. Glad to see this on TH-cam.

    • @Muck006
      @Muck006 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "Surely with technological advances they could do this more." WRONG ... it is BECAUSE OF technological advances that people have become addicted to fancy graphics and bigger explosions ... and acting is soooo '90s and seen as backwards.
      "Modern technology" has become a religion (which is proven every time a new iPhone or something similar is released) and part of this religion is to absolutely diss anything from previous decades.
      Oh and just look at people react VIOLENTLY to their games not running at 60 fps or 4k ultra graphics. As if we had to be tortured to play games like this in the past.

      I think it is more a case of money. Paying animators is a lot cheaper than paying actors. Also, when you make sequels, animations can be reused or modified, but actors will charge a lot to come back for a sequel.

      Ralgha underwent and artificial personality overlay that led to another personality, entirely. This Ralgha would save a human child, defect to the Confederation, even fly against his own kind to end the decades of millions dying on both sides of the conflict. Thrakhath held him in high regard and trusted him with an assignment that would likely have never succeeded in placing a spy in a fortuitous time and place. Not sure if it was always planned from early in the series, but there were also Kilrathi and an entire world who did consciously rebel from the Empire, ironically, with the aid of Hobbes.

      Still, it raises the intriguing question: we're Buckley's actions justified because her paranoia was proven right? I always felt that the Victory was a ship for undesirables, and Cobra was probably put there for being untenable in the first place...still, Hobbes' whole story arc was the first time I was introduced to the situational morality so common in warfare, and it tasted as horrible ot hear his "betrayal and honour" speech then as it did hearing it again for the first time in o'er a decade...
      Either way, I'm so glad someone told be about WC back in '98 when I was playing Colony Wars and mentioned the mission system, still in my top 3 flight games/series.

    I beat this game like 3 times for the endings alone..though i prefered the hot chick pilot to the mechanic...but all the big name actors..none the least of which was none other than Mr Mark Hamill himself...graphics were top notch for the day and all the in ship dialogue options that really played a difference later on ....what more could a gamer ask for...ahhh they sure don't make em like they used to...what a pity...thanks for the upload...i've gotta get my daughter to watch this somehow since she was like 1 or 2 when i played it.....thats the only real problem i have with this (or am going to have} LOL.......

    This is incredible and way better than the movie, of course!! This was the best Wing Commander of all the series and was so cutting edge for the time. This franchise can be easily rebooted on the big screen, stick to the canon and will be so successful. I've read many of the Wing Commander novels and they were awesome! Wing Commander is the best video game franchise of all time.

    Whoa...
    I'm a younger very modern gamer: trapped between the battle of Halo vs Call of Duty, deeply disappointed with the conclusion of mass effect, and constantly upgrading whenever a new console/game is shat out with slightly better graphics. Yet... I was fucking mesmerized throughout this entire video. They don’t make em’ like that anymore.
    Thank you for uploading this.
