You would never convince me of that in other circumstances. I am just astounded how good it was. Some of the zombie scenes were a bit lame but other than that it was awesome!!! I would crowdfund this one for better texturing, but...the design work was so fresh I didn't care. Proof that when the story isn't too loaded down with the cliches the big studios insist on, the end product can be well done.
A remarkably entertaining film. I am astounded by the fact that the total budget was only $7500, I have done multiple combat animations for our product marketing, some as long as 12 minutes, and they all cost no less than $25,000, normally more. Very intelligent use of everyday props and items. Cinematography was a class act. Well done, well done!
Well I thought it was excellent and the shaky cam worked really well in this case, building up the tension and feeling of 'movement'. The sets were great, they'd put a ton of time into them. And another thing that impressed me was how naturalistic the dialogue sounded, I've seen many independent films where it sounds like they're reading from cue cards. Kudos to the actors! Chris.

I'm so glad to see someone's dreams come true. The risk is high, but the payoff is extraordinarily spiritual. This film was excellent in the making, on such a budget. It shows we all could do things we want if we want it badly enough. It had it all, plot,l theme, .... etc.
Sure, the animatics and CG need quite a bit of work(from time to time the salvage ship looks like it's done the same way as The Last Starfighter), but I've seen worse in theatrical releases. I noticed the costumes and the ladder in the ship looked cheap, but seriously, I am shocked this could be made for $7,500. The big screen TV inside the salvage ship alone would cost $1,000+ and the interiors look pretty good. That's not even mentioning the acting(even though I'm only 20ish minutes in). You guys are amazing.
Loving the nod towards Alien. Or at least that's the vibe I got. I enjoy a good Indy flick where the focus is more on story than flashy special effects. Cheers!
I read the negative comments with a grain of salt, I found it very entertaining, drama, comedy and zombies? I've seen worse on paid TV, it was fun! thank you!
Wish I'd seen this 10 years ago. It's still competitive and relevant today. Had to laugh at the roo bar on front of the Deliverance 😂 But there was plenty of time to save Scarlett! She could have space walked out the hole, and they could have picked her up 😢
Hard to believe people are criticizing this film. Its the typical "if its not professionals, its no good" mindset prevailing in those who are downing this. If the credits were replaced with "professional" movie makers and production names the same people criticizing it would be heaping praises on it. There was only one non-finished CG scene I caught (flashed by), and the obvious British culture not understanding how guns really work and their danger (no way anyone who knows anything about guns would have lost the fight at the end with the armaments he had) was the only other problem I caught. This is on a par with Hollywood any day. In fact they even were politically correct (gag) enough to make a biracial element in the story and use the typical childish need to swear once in awhile (which could have been left out and the impact of the film still be great). Those who say this was bad need check their motives and get a reality check by seeing online videos where the professional films have just as many blunders in them.
+Lee Brewer Not entirely true. There were shots in the beginning where the CG was not properly color matched with the live action. Which is not that hard to accomplish. Yet, it pulls you out of the story. Color matching makes a big difference between engaging your audience, or making them wonder what is wrong with what they're looking at.
I noticed that, but given that there is Hollywood level million dollar productions that have shittier CGI.. fuck even whole movies, i would give this a pass with flying colors. Even physics of the film were thought pretty decently, given that ships and the debris would not stay still like that, specially with years of floating around. Even if caught by gravitation "well", there would have been much more movement and that would have been much faster...
Surprisingly well done. I appreciate the fact that people did this for free. Almost unheard of these days. I could not always make out what was being said but I like the British accent - always have :) I am getting tired of the zombie phenomenon, though. Look forward to future productions.
Excellent storyline and secret plot. Had me glued to the screen. Twists and turns all left me in suspense. Not often I watch an entire film from start to finish including the credits. Thank you for posting. **** 4stars
These guys have shown what can be done for £5000. They are an inspiration and could teach Hollywood a thing or two. Better acting, props and special effects/production values than most $100 million 'Blockbusters'. I think if they were able to produce this on actual film rather than digital video(which is very expensive - i am sure i have seen digital video that has been put through a process that mimics film almost 100% for that 'Big Blockbuster' look), and also maybe if they had an extra £20,000 to spend Then this movie would have been a perfect example to put the big budget films to shame. Like i say, for the budget of £5000/$7500 all i can say is wow! You can barely get a brand new car for that now.
I think this movie is wonderful...great job on everything...especially considering the budget. The low tech mixed with high tech really worked for the movie. I saw duct tape, toggle switches from the hardware store etc. I think the "space suits were the tops of those trash cans with the "swinging flap doors"...but it all worked together! Going to look for more of their productions. Best hour and 40 mins. I've spent watching a movie in a while. Thanks to all involved.
I can see why so many awards. Good plot, and enough realism in the set. I love the opening when the systems become active again. The boot up is well thought out. One thing I have a bit of a curiosity about: It seems to me there'd be a rush by everyone to take a piss. Like right away. When I get up that's the first thing on my mind....er bladder. But like any other difficultly it was no doubt overcome by human ingenuity. We gonna have to figure out the problem of lavatory issues in long haul space flight. All in all these guys with a little more money could be the rivals of any Hollywood comic book production company. Thumbs up.
Absolutely excellent, even script always "somebody messing about the deadly accident liability for the mission & crew". British drama excellence, FX used to heighten suspense, military secret kept hidden the fatal flaw of the civilian salvage mission. Agree with others, ending begs for 'Part2' ...so glad BritAwards recognized the excellence in true British acting and drama tradition.
This was so damn enjoyable, I couldn't buy a decent motorcycle for what they produced this movie on. About $8,000.00 dollars U.S. I believe. Nice work.
I cannot imagine working in space with some of the casually careless people I work with here on earth. Ignoring safety precautions and only doing maintenance when absolutely needed. And that is just the business owners. The staff is exactly the same. I bet a lot of those ships that ho missing in in scfi movies were the result of people like some of this crew.
I was a bit skeptical from the like/dislike ratio but was a fantastic job on the budget. Glad I gave it a chance. Way out classed most low budget movies and more than a few blockbusters. Good story with a believable setting. Actually cared what happened to the characters. Nice work!
Yeah, that had to be said. I mean shouldn´t have the word "Wow" have had a chance, to be born right after the upload of this movie? That would have been fair or not my fellow movie viewers? I mean "golly Gee" how unfair the world can be nowadays. Shocking...very shocking. You could compare it too why your friends have put all the toilet paper in the freezer. Shocking......unbelievably stocking......and I also see the unnecessary nice work ... as a gift from dancing angels during a sunny spring morning
Just watched this movie last night and I have to say it was brilliant. I don't think the UK has any bad actors as everyone in this was great. The CGI kind of took me out of the movie every now and then, but was pretty good over all. I thought Scarlett would have been killed when the C4 was detonated, but glad to she survived. And definitely looking forward to seeing what transpired at the very end of the movie. Well done!
If I were the Captain and Scarlett had kissed me like that, my son would have had a new step mother and we all would have had a happy story ending! Great job!
Their filming budget: a mere $7500. The makers of this need to be applauded, I mean come on! they had me on the edge of me seat a bunch of times, felt bad for a few characters, the CG was darn fine too... imagine what this crew could do with $75,000 or $750,000!!
Opening credits were great. Kudos on the great shoestring digital work. Ship looks a bit like "Serenity" if you catch my drift. Zombies or not I give it a thumbs up.
Well done movie. Good story and special effects. I also liked the easter egg seen at 26:02. I wondered for a moment about the significance of the letters BYP until I noticed the name of the channel that uploaded this video.
This film was a community project, with the aim of demonstrating the group's capability of producing a professional-looking feature film on an ultra-low budget. Those involved included professionals, media graduates and local volunteers, some of whom had no previous film-making experience. Everyone involved gave their time for free. Costs were funded by the members of Backyard Productions, assisted by a community grant from the Lincolnshire Co-operative.
+LegionAvalon I must emphasise that I had nothing to do with this production personally, I just reproduced the IMDB description for general information. :-)
I will certainly have my eye out for not only Scales work. But that of Backyard Productions. You have set out and accomplished exactly what you wanted, a Great product! It pulled be in from the begining and kept my attention all the way through! Bravo!
music so loud at times it obscured speech so that even subtitles couldnt function. Pity, as in other respects a good film. Ultra loud music does not increase tension and excitement; tension comes from the acting from actors and story.
I had accidently come across this film in one of my many browsing sessions. Very well done on such a small budget. I'm assuming the set was reused from a prior movie¿ If so, which one.
Well done on all fronts... Budget, free time & energy from all cast and crew who obviously took pride in what they wanted to achieve. It was creative, entertaining, had decent pacing. Just goes to show what 5k and hard work can do when an agreed goal is destined. Thumbs up from an older generation that understands... 👏👏👏
Even though I did not even grasp the plot, the structure and delivery were superb. Some of the best acting I've ever seen on film. The effects were top notch. The cinematography is breathtaking. Just don't miss a frame!
This was packed with all the cliches and plots from various movies and TV shows, even spied “Serenity” influences in the “Deliverance” ship design, but the reavers in this looked liked they had a slice of bread and jam stuck to their faces. Enjoyable though. Well done
Very good movie, except that it was very hard for me to understand what was going on in parts of it, when all the commotion was going on. I take it some of the people who had been on those ships, became cannibals after being on them for twenty years.
Excellent movie (or should I say film ?) the script was excellent, the whole invisible enemy in the dark thing was a bit "too used" but then the plot took a different twist, well acted, well made, good screenplay, good editing... An excellent job for a community project, well, even if compared with major studio productions. Congratulations
I absolutely love this film! The characters are so nicely developed. Johnny Black did an excellent job as captain. The character who plays Travis was beautifully played. Scarlett was my favorite. I even enjoyed Mortimer's character. I thought he did a great job. The story was very engaging and exciting. I felt so bad for the girl who got killed by the starlight crystal how she died in the story. Reggie, Geek, Ace, Screws and Daniel all did a fabulous job. Love it and watch it over and over again!
With some quality CGI, (which I don't doubt is far from cheap yet) this would be really awesome. As it is its still pretty damn good, its not Pandorum good where it did get a lot of inspiration from along with Event Horizon among others, but its better than many. . I've seen a lot of far worse big budget stuff from major studios. Kudos to the people who put this together.

Their filming budget: a mere $7500. The makers of this need to be applauded, I mean come on! they had me on the edge of me seat a bunch of times, felt bad for a few characters, the CG was darn fine too... imagine what this crew could do with $75,000 or $750,000!!
This flick was actually quite good. Thanks for sharing this. 👍
Opening credits were great. Kudos on the great shoestring digital work. Ship looks a bit like "Serenity" if you catch my drift. Zombies or not I give it a thumbs up.
Andrew M get it? Drift? lol
Andrew M me to
Good eye, it dose look like Serenity, which was a fantastic movie!
I enjoyed this film very much! Well done! Way better than a lot of the newer mainstream movies lately!
The movie was outstanding!
1:36:25 The soundtrack at the end of the movie is quite an emotional piece of music. This is what I call leaving the best for last.
It’s entertaining, for the budget. A little spin-off ish, but enjoy it
Well done movie.
+LegionAvalon I thank you all for all the hard work you put in. An awesome job! an awesome movie. Congratulations!
+LegionAvalon Terrific job! Loved the plotline and direction. Gr8 effect on low budget. Well Done all concerned! ;)
+LegionAvalon I must emphasise that I had nothing to do with this production personally, I just reproduced the IMDB description for general information. :-)
+LegionAvalon how they create artificial gravity????????????
+LegionAvalon good effort by all
Really enjoyed the movie! Heart pumping and spectacular fx. Well done! Hopefully there will be a sequel!
Not bad...better than some big budget films.
This was a great movie, thank you so much
I will certainly have my eye out for not only Scales work. But that of Backyard Productions. You have set out and accomplished exactly what you wanted, a Great product! It pulled be in from the begining and kept my attention all the way through! Bravo!
Stumbled across this at the end of a sci-fi movie bender & have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Good job!
Just curious if you can recommend any other really good SciFi gems. I look for new stuff and by the time I've looked for so long I end up giving up.
Agree it was an enjoyable film.
On less than a hollywood budget amazing work this is my second time watching it worth it :)
Anyone else say "Punch it" just afore the credits? Cheers Well done Backyard!
music so loud at times it obscured speech so that even subtitles couldnt function.
Very respectable for a low budget sci fi film. Was worth watching!
And if I could add, PLEASE don't put sound in space. That's the only unrealistic thing in 99% of the Sci-Fi movies. Cheers, Bob
For a budget film I was impressed. Congratulations to the makers and actors.
This was packed with all the cliches and plots from various movies and TV shows, even spied “Serenity” influences in the “Deliverance” ship design, but the reavers in this looked liked they had a slice of bread and jam stuck to their faces. Enjoyable though. Well done
Cheers! Thanks for your hard work in making something of enjoyment for the masses!
As the English might say,
"That was banging!"
Wide open for Drift II!!!!
This movie is really bad. The actors and dialouge are very obnoxious. Couldn't make it to the end.
The British don't say that!
A really fine movie! Entertaining, and good sci-fi. Nicely done.
Glad you liked it! The next DARKWAVE adventure is now online here! th-cam.com/video/WT66k5qBUVI/w-d-xo.html
@@bypuk I just seen that there is a Part 2! Can't wait to watch it today!
Amazing. On 5000k truly a triumph! Netflix should hire you!
Brits in Space! That in itself would have been good enough, but what a great job! Loved it!
Loved it! Thankyou! Greetings from Aus
thanks for the movie, will watch more, remember anything is possible in a sci-fi movie just enjoy...
