About 3 years ago my Son and my Daughter in law surprised me with a trip to Salzburg in Austria where we had the pleasure of going on the Sound of Music tour and then we stayed in the Von Trapp family home which is now a hotel 🏨, all the rooms have names I stayed in the Edelweiss room which is enormous and stunning there are 7 windows in that room with spectacular views, it’s worth every penny to experience staying there .
I had the privilege to see and hear Maria von Trapp lecture while in college at (now) Otterbein University in 1967. We were enthralled with her presence and the message she gave regarding her life in Austria and the German occupation. Truly a once in a lifetime experience.
Never knew that it is based on true story till now . I was a freshman in college when I first saw the movie in 1965. I watched it several times. I still love to watch it. Indeed a great musical movie.
They did live a very adventurous life as a family. I love how Maria and the Captain turned into a good team as a couple and parents to their kids. They show how much a family can do when they stick and stood up together. I'll never forget their story.
Wonderful documentary! Mitzi Von Trapp is just so sweet a part of this!! I see this as a true love story. If not, Maria would not have grown fond of this man. Again, I love "Mitzi's" lovely real smile!! Very happy I found this. We should all try to remember how Europe lived through WWI and II! Some of my relatives in Italy told me their stories. This quarantine we're under is so much easier. No bombs. We can defeat this invisible virus... Just by being patient, vigilant, careful and loving and PROTECTIVE of each other! I'm 73 and all alone. My sister and I may only text each other. I'd love to hug her. My only son is in Japan with his family of two little boys. The worry is the worst, but prayer is comforting and, I believe, all prayers are heard. Stay safe all. Love each other hard! This will pass, use the time well without complaint.
This was wonderful to get to know the Von Trapps. The Sound of Music inspired me and I became a music teacher, singer, and songwriter, married a wonderful musical man who loves Jesus. My girls have beautiful voices and when we sing together we call ourselves the Vanderhoof Family Singers, just for fun!
When I first heard a record of the sound of music I was babysitting when I was 16 with a family of three girls. The children have been put down to sleep and I had permission to play the record. When I first heard the music and the bells and singing of the nuns I loved it so much and Mary Martin's voice was beautiful. Later on when I was able to watch the movie cuz I never got to see the Broadway musical, and it meant even more to me then. As their family babysitter I got to grow up with the kids I babysat until I graduated high school and went into nurses training. That music sustain me through very much. Especially climb every mountain I also read the book that she wrote I loved it.
When I was growing up in Europe, as a child I heard my Grandma talking about meeting Von Trapp family few times on stages somewhere in Austria. At that time it was Austro-Hungary. My Grandmother lived there and performed in theaters acting, singing and playing . When living later in socialist country I never had chance to see the movie until 1980 when I came to USA. Some time later I realized that it was the family that my Grandma used to talk about. My big regret is that by then my Grandma passed and I never had chance to ask her more about them. The movie is my icon, I watch it few times a year and will always love it.
One of the greatest story ever told....the whole world love this family....RIP Maria Von Trapp.....you were a role model for mothers and single parents all over the world and....
When I was a young girl I spent most of one my summer vacations reading a book called "The Von Trapp Family Singers". It was a pretty thick book, but I enjoyed every page of it. This is a wonderful, true story of how a family could survive and make it even in a world that had it's share of darkness at that time. The "Sound of Music" is not totally accurate, but it's truly wonderful, delightful and full of charm and lovely music. Julie Andrews was a jewel in her performance as Maria. I look forward to watching it again. A big Thank You vsbonvenutodoc for sharing this.
When I was 10 yrs old, am now 77, my mother was president of the music club at our high school. As a fundraiser, the Von Trapp family came to our town to put on a concert. We met the entire family, except by that time, the baron had passed. It was Maria and most of the children....along with a priest. Two of the girls stayed at our home for the night, but we got together with them to eat meals. My mother stayed in touch with Maria, and a couple of years later we visited their home in Stowe Vermont. It was fashioned after a Austrian lodge, and the baron chose the land in Vermont because it reminded him of land in Austria. We once again had a meal with them, stayed in the lodge they owned. Mom bought the book that Maria had written and I am privileged to have the book, signed by Maria and numerous children. The two that stayed with us were Hedwig and Annette. I will never forget these two women, nor Maria. Johanns was beginning to care for the lodge. We loved visiting the lodge, and seeing Maria again. I cherish the book. And of course my favorite movie to this day is The Sound of Music. My youngest son has been to Austria and took the Von Trapp tour. He truly loved it. I saw Maria on various talk shows and loved every minute of interviews with her. The lodge did burn down but Johanns had rebuilt it, along with his family.
What a pleasure this was to watch. Maria was my mother's best friend. It wasn't unusual to arrive home from school, and see Maria sitting in our living room. She and my mother often went for lunch, or shopping. When Maria was in the city, filling the food order at Burlington Grocery, my mother's boss would tell them to "Go! Enjoy yourselves, and we'll take care of Maria's order." It's a shame that children don't understand the history of people. She and my mom were best friends. That's all that mattered to me at that time. Seeing this documentary, and Maria's face, again, brought back all the times she was at my house, and all the wonderful stories my mother would tell about their days together. She was heartbroken when Maria passed away, and upset no one in the family bothered to tell her Maria was ill. A wonderful lady, Maria, and a wonderful story of a life full of ups and downs.
So wonderful to hear and watch this documentary. My life has been full to have read Maria Von Trapp original book, seen the the 1965 version of the Trapp Family movie, then to grow up performing in the play Sound of Music. Was able to see Debbi Boone play Maria in New Orleans. Participated in several community theatre productions playing Sr Berthe, and was thrilled when my daughter played the part of Louisa in a University/Community theatre production. Then just a few years ago my son brought me to visit Salzburg and tour the original Sound of Music Tour. The icing on the cake is that Peter Graves, actor from my childhood, narrated this documentary. My brother and I got to meet him when we performed a garage theater show to earn money to donate to a Jerry Lewis Telethon for children. A few years back, I had the opportunity to meet the elderly Agathe von trapp as the new generation of von traps singers performed in Norfolk, VA. I am now 70 and I hope to finish my play or screenplay that will promote the same moral values and encourage others to live their lives to glorify God. Thank you for this wonderful documentary. Someday I plan to visit the Von Trapp Lodge in Vermont.
I remember as a little girl being taken by my Grandfather to see The Sound of Music. It became and still is one of my most favorite movies of all time. I am thankful to the Von Trapp family for their music. I hope to go to the Stowe Vermont to stay at their lodge.
What a wonderful presentation of the true family. They are an inspiration to many of us. The music and film were so beautiful. I will never forget taking my father to see them perform in Boston.
Wow...thank you for the beautiful true story. Sounds of Music is a movie I can always watch 10times over it's so inspirational thank you The Von Trapp Family
It was great to hear the real story and what really happened in their lives. I am sorry the father was portrayed as harsh in the movie. He was a gentle and kind man and much loved by his family.
In order to have a "good story," writers always look for ways to create conflict...and making Captain Von Trapp an insufferable martinet at the beginning of the story was their way of making it interesting. Still, I can understand why Maria was not on board with that.
It turns me nostalgic.....I have grown up with this movie right since my early childhood in a family of six. The video is very beautifully made. And I have fallen for Maria....and all her children here who spoke so vividly of how life moved form the family ..................and it all came from the heart ! Thanks to everyone who mattered in getting this video done so well.
GRAZIE 🌹
Amazing story. Maria, is a very strong and inspiring character. Maria Von Trapp sure smile down on us all from heaven. This is beyond words. It's very unique and special.
When I was a senior high school student, I first saw this film and was moved very much by the solidarity of the family, the beautiful music. I learned many things through the film such as hardship for them to overcome under difficult situations.
What a fantastic REAL story! When the movie came out I was pregnant with my daughter and my husband and I went to see it. After my daughter, Lisa was born, the song I sang her to sleep each night was Eidelweiss.
A very beautiful family and an exceedingly beautiful movie. A masterpiece! My favourite movie for years. Delighted to learn from the experience of the Von Trapp family. A beautiful documentary as well.
I could listen to Peter Graves read the phone book. Very well done. Having been to both Vermont and Austria, I can't believe that they ever thought Vermont was a substitute for Salzburg. I've seen their previous home, and can't imagine them living on a farm. Wow, that must have been quite a shock to those kids.
The Trapp family Lodge setting is stunning. It comprises thousands of acres located at the top of Luce hill in Stowe, Vermont, overlooking the valleys below. Maria’s favorite view (and bedroom) faced the Nebraska valley facing the back of the main Lodge. Of course it isn’t Salzburg, but it gives one a sense of the Austrian countryside. Thanks to Johannes, the youngest son, the Trapp Family Lodge is now a major cross-country skiing destination.
I watched this film 8 times and memorised the entire music score and not knowing I had a musical ear and studied. I became a recorder player and music teacher. I am now retired.
Just came across this wonderful story, the real one, and it was quite an eventful one. I loved the movie which I have viewed too many times to remember. Thank you for telling us about these wonderful people.
My mom bought the record in late 60s and I have seen the movie many times over I know all the songs! I enjoyed it and it’s good to see the original where it came from and the differences... I will continue to enjoy...
How wonderful to hear the true story of the von Trapp family behind the Sound of Music film. That movie is one of my earlier movie memories. I remember seeing it at the Rolling Hills Theater and when the film finished, the entire audience applauded! We just don’t do that any more. I was really excited when my sales rep in that territory sent me an order for my jewelry that was placed by the gift shop buyer at the Trapp Family Lodge. It instantly brought back that childhood memory in the theater.
I was in the audience at a Sunshine Coast movie theatre premiere for Liam Neeson's Rob Roy and we all stood up and cheered wildly when the loathsome baddy (played so brilliantly by Tim Roth) copped it. Yaaay@
Finally, the von Trapps as I remember them, from going to their concerts every Christmas in Boston and then a summer at their Camp where I learned to sing Gregorian and even played my violin. I have been yearning to see the real children. I loved them all.
I am so pleased that someone produced this documentary of the true story. I enjoyed it far more than the Disney version, but am saddened that this energetic woman did not receive the fruit of all her labor. She was inventive and resourceful, and it just seems a shame that she didn't receive monetary compensation for her life's story. Seems like the $ should have been inherited by her children, as well. I am glad that she was recognized throughout her lifetime for her accomplishments and her ability to overcome such odds. Thanks for posting this video.
Maria von Trapp has a strong personality, which brought the family to be success for generations..their story has become a legend for centuries ahead...people never get tired of their struggle to survive, which will inspire everybody not to afraid of hard work & persistency..
In Massachusetts at Holyoke Catholic High, my mom was organist, director of music for Glee Club who performed. My brother played Kurt and I was Louisa. ❤️
Maria sounds in many ways like my own mother. High energy, idealistic, driven, creative, dramatic, but needed someone to temper her at times. I know what it's like to live with a mom like that. Never a dull moment! 😁
Wonderful! It describes me as well, all the character references, I am a musician , and raise 6 young children with my husband, a more laid back but strong husband!
It's a great story, encouraging, enlightening and entertaining. Touching one's soul. Sad for the wrong contract Maria signed, which otherwise could have made each family member a millionaire. There is an interesting connection with the World War and the Great Depression. Above all, one is awestruck by the strong will power of Ms Maria to navigate a family of 11+ members through bad times, worst situations, make a journey from Austria to England and America and achieve such fame and popularity. It's also a lesson that sincere, hard work does bear golden fruits. Good narration enriched with real shots and the memories shared by the Trapp family members. Hats off! Thanks a lot.
I was a teenager when my mother took my sister and I to see the Von Trapp singers in Logansport, IN... What a thrill it was many years later to see The Sound of Music, thinking that surely was their true story... Read Maria's book later and now this documentary offers me their really true story...nevertheless, I continue to be inspired by Maria's courage and strength of character as well as the respect given to her and her husband by the children. Movie moguls should be ashamed of taking advantage of the Von Trapps...it is sad to hear of contention among the children.
The greatest film of all times. I salute the Von Trapp family Singers .For me the Von Trapp family the most beautiful and lovely family.I love their voices their songs very much. How I wish the younger generation of Von Trapp will sing again.
Oh my gosh, what an interesting story. I,ve watched the movie, The Sound Of Music many times, but this is the real story of the Von Trapp Family, This is one of the most interesting videos I,ve watched in a long time. What a woman......what a family!!!
beautiful touching documentary...movie...life story!! I was 6 year old (in 1957) i was at the cinema watching ..die Trapp Familie! I never fergot!! Thank you!
The Sound of Music, the movie, came to Connecticut in 1965. I had seen it with a friend and loved it. My family saw it again together. One of my favorite movies.
Yes, I was in my first year high school when it was first shown here in the Philippines! I love that movie, l still watch that movie often this time, I have shown it to my grandchildren, they love it, I see to it that I have a clean copy everytime. I hope this is not to late a reaction, just saw this now. I love the Sound of Music and the story of the von Trapp family, and the actors and actresses in that beautiful musical movie.
My most favorite movie, "The Sound of Music," with Julie Andrews' lovely voice and warm acting has resonated in my life. When I met (through mutual friends) a strict widower with four daughters, I was working on the House side of The Hill in D.C. for a congressman from Colorado. Since I had worked over six years singing and playing my violin with a Christian organization in San Bernardino, CA, who helped people get closer to God through His Son Jesus, friends called me a nun and compared me to Maria von Trapp. So, when I married the widower with four daughters, ages 10 months, 3, 6, and 9 years old and had two more daughters from our union, people in the U.S. called us the von Trapp Family. I tried to teach our six daughters a love for music, but only half of them found that love and played musical instruments or sang in choirs as they were growing up. Obviously, our family wasn't one that traveled and performed all across the world. The girls were all musically talented, but their father didn't want any of them performing on stage or in the movies. So, we sang or played together in duets, trios or quartets amongst ourselves.
I never met Maria or Georg von Trapp, but my sister and I did meet several of her daughters, including Agatha. We attended a children's music camp at the lodge in Stowe for two summers back in the 1950's. I still have my recorder. :)
In spite of everything, including having virtually no verifiable details of her pre-Trapp life to go on, an inspiring and heartwarming real story. One thing's for sure -- she was full of life like we all should be. Who could fail to love them all? Kudos on all involved in this production and to YOU for posting it. Now everybody READ THE BOOK and enjoy the other Trapp documentaries posted here in YT!
Thank you ever so much:-)
Inspiring but it seems the movie stars were more famous than the real family...😍😍😍. I read the opening of The Von Trapp book ...Maria prayed for the family n her prayers were so beautiful. She was an ex nun n had a good heart.
After watching Sound of Music, kind enjoy more learning The true History of The Von Trapp Family. And The Trapp Family Singer. If gift from God. Watch one classic film movie 1935- I find it truly magical moments of was back then. How Maria become a new mom in the Trapp Family and behind the history of her past. She help children sing and play and have fun. Truly was beautiful Family, God Bless all them. Maybe if Maria keep children together because of Husband die maybe she miss him so much. Now today got be close to 75 or 80 years now. Let’s remember great history of them. Truly beautiful music live on Forever. God bless children and there Mother and Father. In heaven now. Thank You for share this beautiful video clip. God Bless All Them. They should got some awards all years they been singing. 100%.
STRENGTH, FAITH, UNITY, LOVE,...I can say so much MORE with one WORD about this FAMILY,... GIFTED, WAOHHHH, AmaZing! BEAUTUFUL, TALANTED, WAOHHHH!! INSPIRATIONAL♥️ TRUELY UNIQUE,.. ITS HEART FELT JUST LISTENING... WHAT A STRONG FAMILY....MARIA ONE EXTRADIONARY WOMAN 💙💚💛💜♥️🖤 THANK YOU 4 THIS VIDEO.
Wow! The Sound a Of Music has been my favorite movie all of my life yet I never knew they had come to America. What an eventful life they lived ! I’m so glad I clicked on this .
I've been near Stowe Vt on a few occasions, never saw the Trapp property, but the area around there (and throughout much of Vermont) is absolutely stunning and picturesque!
Such an amazing story, and nobody in this family could ever have guessed it at all what a life they would have. So many turns and tumbles and happy end. "Der Mensch denkt und Gott lenkt."
I played Liesl for our 1 week Sound of Music School play. Being the soprano, the most difficult bit was the scene when the family were crossing the mountains while escaping the Nazis out of Austria. Our choir mistress was the sister of our drama teacher and I felt I had to do my best for both. Being 16 years old at the time, I never seemed to get it right. The days I sang brilliantly, my drama teacher said she couldn't feel my sadness. The day I felt the sadness, I couldn't reach the high notes at the end because I was crying so hard I could hardly sing! I finally got it right in the last two days..... Another funny thing was, I never knew before the play that the boys who teased me to death were so protective of me. They stood at the stage door and any boy from any other school who came backstage were told to get lost. My, was I proud! I will never, ever forget it. Those were the days.......
What an amazing woman! what an amazing lovely family! "The Sound of Music" is my favorite musical movie and Julie Andrews my old time favorite actress. March 28, 2020 is in two weeks and Maria's Anniversary of her passing on in 1987. R.I.P. Maria hope God has you singing with "the Angels Choir". To her descendants: a truly remarkable woman, she left an incredible legacy. Love Maria.
THIS movie was the ONLY movie, of hundreds we had, that made EVERYONE happy as I worked as an activities assistant at a high end assisted living/memory care facility in Naples, FL. I highly recommend it for memory care facilities everywhere!!!
I loved watching this, Maria was a awesome lady. I liked learning abouut her life from this. How sad she lost her husband, and her regret concerning him.
Maria is a very remarkable woman.I couldn't believe what she had done to her family. Some women can really take charge of the family.I really, really admire her!

I enjoyed the movie but the true story is also intriguing. Maria was definitely a fierce woman and it’s lovely to hear them speak about their father.

This movie still inspires me to this day. A wonderful christian family. I hope Jesus may keep your family in the power of the faith!
As a sound of music fan myself, this is pretty cool
The Sound of Music had literally nothing to do with Jesus. Give me a break.
I can watch the movie over and over again and never get tired of it.
Amanda Saunders so do i

I have also read that book. I saw it in the local library. Very interesting.
I got thatbook as a birthday gift. I ve read it many times. I read it once a year. It is marwellous.

I’ve always love the sound of music! And I just love the real von Trapp family story too!!! Thank you !!
I also grew up loving Disney's Sound of Music. 'The Trapp Family (1956)' found here on YT, is wonderful too! Have you seen it?
I remember hearing the original family perform at my High School one night.. It was such an enjoyable program.. that I will never 4get..
Thank you for sharing this with us.
I enjoyed your text very much. Something to think about.
Loved staying at the Von Trapp family home in Vermont. It's beautiful 😍 🤩
Both versions of the Von Trapp story are utterly charming!
Wow...thank you for the beautiful true story. Sounds of Music is a movie I can always watch 10times over it's so inspirational thank you The Von Trapp Family
Perdia a conta de qtas vezes assisti A noviça rebelde!!! Muuuito bom saber da história verdadeira tbm!
It was great to hear the real story and what really happened in their lives. I am sorry the father was portrayed as harsh in the movie. He was a gentle and kind man and much loved by his family.
Harsh but lovable.
GRAZIE 🌹
I watch it every night to go to sleep to the sound of the music; but it doesn’t always work, so I just lie and watch it again.
Amazing story. Maria, is a very strong and inspiring character. Maria Von Trapp sure smile down on us all from heaven. This is beyond words. It's very unique and special.
I'm not surprised the family rebelled..

That’s by Rodgers & Hammerstein, not a folk song.
A very beautiful family and an exceedingly beautiful movie. A masterpiece! My favourite movie for years. Delighted to learn from the experience of the Von Trapp family. A beautiful documentary as well.
I was 21 when i first saw this movie back in 1968..I loved it than and still love it today 26th February 2018..One of the greatest movies ever..
On, the
I was 11....and it made an equally strong impact on me. My favorite movie, for sure, even today.
I can't help myself......I loved it THEN....then.....then....NOT than! Please.

@Buckshot 1 I am.glad that I am.not the only spelling corrector on this text!
Your family in my heart will never be forgotten. I was raised on the sound of music . God love you and your family

Very sad and woderful together. Rroadway and Oon Trapp.
Maria was a singer andlove her music all the time. Very beautiful story.
👍
Just came across this wonderful story, the real one, and it was quite an eventful one. I loved the movie which I have viewed too many times to remember. Thank you for telling us about these wonderful people.
Really glad this was on. I especially liked the true story of the family. I am glad the father was so gentle .
I am so honored to watch both this documentary and the film.
Vanessa Leopardas You remind me of them in several ways.
I read Maria von Trapps Biography! The story she told was completely different from what was told in " The Sound of Music! "
Avery poignant n unusual family. Tht brought happiness to us even tdy God Bless them with peace n harmony n long life
An inspiring story to keep preserving no matter what.

I’d would like to say THANK YOU to my dad for letting me introduced to this classic movie when I was still a child.
The Sound of Music was one of my favorite theatre movies...I could sing every song.
Maria von Trapp has a strong personality, which brought the family to be success for generations..their story has become a legend for centuries ahead...people never get tired of their struggle to survive, which will inspire everybody not to afraid of hard work & persistency..
Tanya Masjhur Centuries ahead is a bit over the top, no? They all lived in the 20th century.
I knew Dr. Rupert Von Trapp. He was our family doctor in Little Compton Rhode Island when I was a child. I love there voices
In Massachusetts at Holyoke Catholic High, my mom was organist, director of music for Glee Club who performed. My brother played Kurt and I was Louisa. ❤️
Yes, he was a wonderful man. I knew him as a young man working at the Lodge and later staying on with the family.
I admire Maria Von Trapp! How smart and wise person she is.
EXCELENTE HISTÓRIA DE UMA FAMÍLIA VERDADEIRAMENTE DE FERRO.

Maravilhoso! Sensacional.
Actually they are ab
and have toured in concert together!
Oh my gosh, what an interesting story. I,ve watched the movie, The Sound Of Music many times, but this is the real story of the Von Trapp Family, This is one of the most interesting videos I,ve watched in a long time. What a woman......what a family!!!
TUDO O QUE VI E OUVI É SIMPLSMENTE MARAVILHOSO
beautiful touching documentary...movie...life story!! I was 6 year old (in 1957) i was at the cinema watching ..die Trapp Familie! I never fergot!! Thank you!
That's wonderful! Having watched the original die Trapp Familie! That's real history, too! We're of the same generation, I was 5 then.
Grande memória afetiva esse filme me proporciona. Nossa avó era austríaca.
I love sound of music. Very much beautiful 💯❤️❣️💝🙏
Really amazing story of one big family.. God blessed them I believe.. pray together stays forever... Rest in peace to the parents.
Life is harsh with pure-hearted people, but that doesn't take the meaning and beauty out of it for them.
Example of a fulfilled and brave life. 👍👍👍👍
Maria was a wonderful woman. She had a great husband and family. May she and her husband rest in peace.
I never met Maria or Georg von Trapp, but my sister and I did meet several of her daughters, including Agatha. We attended a children's music camp at the lodge in Stowe for two summers back in the 1950's. I still have my recorder. :)
Wow! Wow! Awesome!
I love the real Von Trapp's story as much as the movie! Beautiful harmonies.
Encantadora a história dessa família.
Thank you ever so much:-)
Inspiring but it seems the movie stars were more famous than the real family...😍😍😍. I read the opening of The Von Trapp book ...Maria prayed for the family n her prayers were so beautiful.
She was an ex nun n had a good heart.
The real story is always harder than the movie. I adore them in their being a fighter.
I love this they sing like angels 😇
After watching Sound of Music, kind enjoy more learning The true History of The Von Trapp Family. And The Trapp Family Singer. If gift from God. Watch one classic film movie 1935- I find it truly magical moments of was back then. How Maria become a new mom in the Trapp Family and behind the history of her past. THANK YOU 4 THIS VIDEO.
I think it is so beautiful that Me. Trapp didn't join the German navy and that he had courage to take his family out of their beloved homeland.
Great and historical video. I started and could not stop until finished. Great history.
I could watch this over and over again!
God bless the Von Trapp Family & those who are the source of this great story.
"Der Mensch denkt
und Gott lenkt."
Maria Von Trapp is a woman and a mother to be admired...her strong personality made this family story so great.

Love Maria.
It's good to know the truth! Thank you for sharing your beautiful and real story. How inspiring! ❤
She took things a bit too far. Watch the real stories about her and you'll change your mind.
This recording of the Trapp family adds so much to the wonder and mystery of the huge blessing their efforts have brought to the world .
I love films that fill you with joy and end 'happily ever after'. The Sound of Music is just that!
Sound of Music will always be the best movie of all times. I still watch it since grade 1 till now.
