    In this video I perform a detailed review of the new VW T-Roc R Line Cabriolet. When I first saw this car at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2019, I didn't get it at all but a sunny week with a facelifted example in the UK three years later has changed that, as I explain in this video

    Prefer and love our 2014 Beetle cabrio. Far better looking car in my opinion. As with the windbreak, it's a must for open top driving. We tend to leave ours up even when the roof is closed (that's if there's only two of you in the car) because it's a pain in the backside to fit and remove let alone store in its cassette holder. Sorry this car is not a replacement for the Beetle🤘

      Fair points Wyn and I am a secret fan of that era of Beetle especially as a cabrio

    Well done Andrew a great review and I enjoyed hearing an in depth review on the t roc convertible like many I was sad to see the end of the golf convertible after so long and then the beetle. I do like the t roc convertible and i was sceptical on announcement but I could see the point when I sat in one and you sat high and found it to be comfortable and with the new facelift interior would probably be much better it’s the main criticism of my own pre facelift t roc!
    I like the teal blue and would have it myself! It reminds me of Botticelli blue I had on a Citroen! It think it looks very sporty and I would love one maybe one day keep up the good work look forward to the next video! Daniel

    Maybe the business case for this was trying to capture Beetle and Scirocco customers in one vehicle? So while it seems expensive to make this on its own, perhaps in a boardroom somewhere this consolidated two models. I'd prefer it that those vehicles existed instead, but hey, at least this is interesting in its own way and an outlier.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am sure they decided to mop up a few niches with this car, not least Golf Cabrio but death of Beetle was a consideration. When T Roc was launched some suggested it was a replacement for SciROCco it seemed mad but look at Ford with Mustang and Puma now SUVs and TT going the same way too, weird times

    • @ThomasHarrisonLord
      @ThomasHarrisonLord ปีที่แล้ว

      @@volkswizard agreed, very very strange times. Several 'interesting' or purist models swept up by crossovers/SUVs of some sort across the industry.
      Also, ah yes, I forgot the Golf cab too

  • @adrianlw2750
    @adrianlw2750 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I had a “dry” 7-speed DSG in a Mk5 Golf. I was never particularly comfortable with it in crawling uphill traffic when the clutch had to “slip”. I had visions of over-heating although never actually had a problem in that regard. I much prefer the “wet” DSG in my current car, which is smoother too.
    As regards manual override, yes, I use that. On a winding country road, it is just perfect to hold the gear in what you want. Funnily enough… just like you do with a manual ‘box!🙂

    It's not a car I'd ever buy, personally - but I can sort of understand it. I dislike SUVs in the main but I can see that this probably would be more practical (storage, etc) than a modern Golf cabrio would be.
    My main gripea would be with the general direction of VW cabin architecture (not specific to this particular model). The touch screen temp controls & haptic steering wheel buttons don't appeal at all - probably done as a cost saving exercise (but I guess you'd get used to it). The cabin is actually better than the Golf, imho - although particularly mean to offer only a Beats soundpack in a car priced & sized like a Golf. It's not that bad in a smaller car (worked fine in my Wife's old Up! Beats TSi), but not for a car that size. Wonder where the subwoofer is?

    Love the teal blue and it looks way better than I thought it would - having had 2 Mini Cooper S cabrios/conv it would be an interesting combination to compare - the EOS hard top convertibles were also quite popular here in Australia and this seems to be a better execution with sales to match - it will be interesting to see if any capacity for some imports here as spec very similar to uk as I’m sure they’d sell well - great video of course 🎉🎉🎉

    Nice review of an excellent car. But it’s odd that you criticise the ‘old’ design of the T Roc car key because it is so much better than the new shiny haptic version. It’s more tactile, more durable and feels much better in the hand. New is not always Better.

    Not my cup of tea, but like you said, there's a market for it, and that ultimately is why it exists. Very interesting to see some different reviews though.
    The 1.0 litre engine is legit the worst engine VW has ever made, the 1.2 TSI was way more powerful and economical, best all round small car engine VW had before scrapping it, and the newer 1.5 litre isn't an option in many of the cars, so it's 1.0 litre and suck it up for many, I despised the engine so much, felt I had to rag it everywhere, which is why I thought sod it, GTI.
    I could never get use to the stupid lane assist resetting every single time, annoyed me so much that I had to manually turn it off every damn trip, should remember last setting by default, which can be unlocked. Best thing I ever did and money well spent buying an OBDII programmer to set lane assist to what VW should've done in the first place, "remember last used setting". The last thing you want is the car dragging you off the road coz you forgot to turn off lane assist, and yes it attempted it on my first trip down a country road when I not long had my Polo GTI.
