I think it was Bodanza who said MVP & Axiom flight numbers could be for pro level arms. Helped me rethink the insanity flight numbers to a 9 5 -1 1, making it more in line with undertaker, lariat, and escape. Seems like the virus is more of a 9 5 -3 2 to start with.
If he did say that, I would agree. I have found if I want the MVP family of discs to fly close to the flight numbers, I have to get them between 156g to 164g. Anything max weight is basically going to just be a beef cake for me! 😅
Nailed this one. I bag a virus and heat. the main difference for me is that the heat goes further (ive still never found a 9 spd that has the glide the discraft heat has). The virus is a little more flippy for me but sometimes i just want a flat disc to reach for. I also bag an insanity as its the straightest 9spd ive probably ever thrown. Good combos to each other.
@@justinsimpson9892 only disc I’ve seen come close to the Heat for glide and feel of the Virus is the DM Function. It’s almost like the two had a baby.
@@isaackim226 what weight is it? Proton in general had a little more bite for me as well, but if it is in the high 160’s to mid 170’s they can be pretty beefy. My rule of thumb with MVP. Go light. My sweet spot with MVP to fly the expected numbers is 158g to 163g.
I have really wanted a virus for 2 years when I got my neutron vanish and really liked it. But I bag DX Thunderbirds and a 162g champ Mamba. my sidewinders fly like vultures bc I get super domey 175g champion but my Mambas are flat and gummy so they fly just like 9 6 -3 1 or a heat
Oh I just discovered the Mamba! Got one that is 147g and it is INCREDIBLE!!!! I naturally have a slight hyzer release, and that thing pops up to flat, gets a wide turn and fights back at the end. For me it’s like a longer Heat. It goes like 15-30ft further than any other driver I have.
@@JoshJackson13 interesting about Star. Mine holds a little bit of torque. Not a lot, have to put it on hyzer when throwing forehand. But it flips up, gets good turn and then comes back at the very end. Backhand, if I toss it flat, it just has a lazy turn and fights back to center. Then there is Halo Star, which is not a Mamba 😅. It’s like a noodle arms Destroyer. Very straight and hard finish.
@@CheatingLeftyDiscGolf I've had 2 stars and about 5 champions. Star I had was to gummy. Every champion was perfect but my champion sidewinder flys like a vulture. It's domy stiff 162g. I can rip it flat and doesn't even turn.
@@brosa1212 I hear ya. Speed 9 is an odd slot for me too. I have the Function already and a Fission Wave as well. So hard to justify having a speed 9 that does the same.

Love my Proton, its so straight for me, 300-340ft with it, minimal turn and thats it.
Happy to hear it is working out for ya! Is it a heavier weight?

I want to love the virus - proton but every time it seems to dive bomb to the left. Am I throwing it wrong?

I just bought one . Neutron comes tomorrow
Hope you enjoy throwing it! 💪
