Another awesome video. That chicken stroganoff looked delicious. I had the same thought of keeping that pasta water for the hot bottle for the sleeping bag. Don't know if you put salt in that pasta water. But, that would keep it from eventually freezing easily. You do it all right every time.😊

Thanks! It makes way more sense to bring freeze dried meals backpacking. But since I have the time and I really enjoy cooking I find it fun to make meals with my camping equipment that I’d usually cook at home. I’ve gotten the packing for each meal down so it’s pretty easy to bring the ingredients 👍. Thanks again for another thoughtful comment!

With the nammatj though , my head was always touching the inner, not so though with the nallo near the entrance. The nammatj is the best tunnel imho.
Both fantastic tents 👍. I agree and I do absolutely love the Nammatj. I’ve just personally never been a big fan of the door placement of the Nallo. I like that the door of the Nammatj opens on the side of the vestibule. Having two large vents is great as well. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! ATB
I'm currently catching up on your videos and apart from the amazing locations your culinary skills are inspirational and prove that anything can be cooked on camp. Thank you
Thank you. I really enjoy the challenge of trying to make the same meals I would normally cook at home. Really appreciate you taking the time to look back at my older videos!
It’s not me 😅, the British isles are the bad weather magnet 👍. I at least have plenty of camps on the channel with decent weather to show that I’m not that unlucky. Really appreciate the comment. Hope you enjoy the rest your week. ATB
Hello mi friend, sorry I'm late with seeing this one. Great to hear the wind all the way through the video lol. Nice one mate 👍🔥🇬🇧. Thanks for sharing. Atb Andy
Nice! It’s a fantastic tent. I do have an extra set but I have yet to use them. I’ve been pretty happy how it handles wind with just the single set of poles. But if I ever see truly terrible weather is in the forecast I will def double pole 👍. Thanks for watching! ATB
You are a class act! So gracious and so kind to respond to everyone's comment. You should get commisdion off the amount of product I have purchased based on your videos.😊
Thanks Paul! 👍 I’m really liking the new tent. Yeah gonna be sad when it’s all gone. Not sure if it will happen but I have my fingers crossed for one more camp in the snow. Enjoy your hike!
Great video , Ivan happy with my nammatj to and just bought from Bergans aconw Person tent for light traveling… love to see more videos with the nammatj :)
Thanks! The Nammatj is great 👍. Definitely a bit heavier than my other tents but it provides such a nice amount of space in winter or when the weather isn’t the best. You will definitely see it in more videos. Appreciate you taking the time to comment!
@@GoingSoloOutdoors Thats true. And the best of all. After a long hike outdoors and especially in the cold such a very nice and warm dinner taste so much better and heat you up 😊👍
Great video. Beautiful raw nature scenery. Might be worth mentioning that only the US uses the old Fahrenheit temperature system and the rest of the world use Centigrade. So to understand what you mean by “cold”, 12 degrees needs converting to -11 Degrees Centigrade (eleven degrees below freezing point) for the rest of the world to understand you. We watch your videos all around the world mate and need to know these things :-)
Thanks! When I am talking about the temperature starting at 13:18 I was referring to the temperature in Celsius 😀👍 not Fahrenheit. Just because I’m speaking with an American accent doesn’t mean I’m saying the temp in Fahrenheit 😜. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. All the best.
Incredibly beautiful winter adventure. Great filming and a fresh setup. The food looks delicious though. I need to get that pan for my next adventure ;)
Thanks Mario! I highly highly recommend the jetboil summit skillet! It’s a great size and easy to cleanup after you cook. Appreciate the comment. Have a good weekend!
Truly wonderful, you have a real affinity for making great videos, along with the added bonus of a regular cooking masterclass. Fabulous drone footage and editing, a real pleasure to view. 👌👍👊
Thanks Michael! Glad you liked the drone footage. I actually packed up the drone today to send it in for repairs (the gimbals basically busted). I was happy I was able to a least get some footage. So nice to see these mountains covered in snow! Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Have a great weekend!
@@davidunderwood9863 yeah it was definitely a bit cold. The windchill was brutal but it felt comfortable inside the tent! At least you don’t have to worry about condensation dripping on you 😂
I was up in the lakes for some incredible snow fall last weekend. I had packed for a snow camp but didn't quite trust myself at the last moment - I'd not solo camped in snow before and was put off by the length of the night... also had a 3 season tent (Lanshan 2) so I think not staying up on my own was probably the right call. Watched this to see if you'd clear the snow from the tent footprint but ended up getting sucked in to your amazing video. Definitely inspired and hoping to get that first snow camp in soon (just a little more confident next tine!) Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching Rob! Camping in the snow is probably my favorite way to camp but it does require a bit of extra kit to be more comfortable. I’ve used a 3 season tent in the past in the snow and I must admit, if it’s windy it can get quite cold. Just need to make sure your sleep system is dialed in for the temps. You should absolutely give it a try though. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment and watching a bit more of the video! All the best!
Thanks! It’s always great to get a snow camp in. Especially when you can get a nice view. Tunnel tents are great! Size/Weight to strength ratio in strong winds is unbeatable 👍. Appreciate you watching another video.
Great video mate, I enjoy the quiet and the focus on your sfx. In my own videos I tend to rely more on background music and speech but this is proof tha sfx can take you a long way. Subbed👏🏼
Thanks for watching! Sometime I will use music if there are no interesting sounds going on or if it’s just too windy. I didn’t want to add any music on this one during the hike because I just really love the silence when there is snow on the ground! Especially the sound of snow under your boot. So peaceful. Really appreciate the support! ATB
Thanks Graham! The mountains look great covered in a nice blanket of snow. Nice way to break in the new tent! Glad you liked the meal. It was a yummy one 😀👍. Appreciate you taking the time to comment! Cheers
@@grahamscothern4319 it’s a good light system. My only complaint is that you need to use something under the stove if you are going to cook in the tent. For instance I used a small soldering mat on this camp. Recently I did start using it with my trangia kit and the regular size stove fits perfectly which is cool!
Great vid but a few observations. Need a cozy on the nalgene as temp will freeze the water, and trekking poles would aid safety by ensuring you dont take a step into a sinkhole! Otherwise great location 👍🏻
Thanks. I agree trekking poles are definitely a must in the snow! When I’m not pointing the camera I actually have my tripod in hand and use it as a trekking pole. It’s carbon fiber and pretty beefy. I use it quite frequently to test stream crossings and test for frozen boggy spots. Works well but I never really get to show that. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment! Have a great weekend!
I am new to this channel and catching up older videos. Most others I have been watching are way below your standard. I am a big trangia fan but those x-boil units are on my list now.
The trangia stove is my all time favorite but the Xboil stove is also fantastic. Especially when lighting it in cold weather. It’s extremely easy. My only complaint is that you can’t store the fuel in the stove and it doesn’t have a simmer ring like the trangia. Really appreciate you watching my older videos! Hope you’re having a nice weekend!
amazing stuff! great production skills, camping and cooking skills thanks for taking us with you! might sugest you do equipement videos too, Id love to know more about that tent
Thanks! I haven’t really done any equipment videos yet because I worry people might think I’m trying to promote or sell them something. Which is definitely not the goal of this channel. I haven’t completely ruled out one day doing videos on gear but for right now I’m just doing trip videos and cooking shorts. However, I’m always happy to give recommendations or answer any questions about any of my gear! Really appreciate the comment. ATB
Upon rewatching, may I respectfully suggest those snug fitting rubber fingered gloves for cold fiddly jobs? I buy ones slightly smaller to maintain maximum dextrosity, (I think I just invented a new word ;) As you ably demonstrate, comfort over weight for winter camps!
I’ve been meaning to get a thinner pair of gloves to also take with me when I don’t need my larger gloves. I need to also try just using the liner of these gloves which are removable from the larger leather glove. I typically always favor comfort and durability over weight 👍. Hope you’re having a nice weekend!
Thanks! Good tip. Oddly enough the metal pegs were fine to get out. It was the plastic delta pegs that had really become anchored. They are great pegs but they don’t have a pull cord so if you can’t get a good purchase around them it can be really tough to pull them out. Would have been nice to have a small stone though to break up the ice around them! Thanks for watching! ATB
Man, I need a nammatj. About the only Hilleberg I haven’t tried. Great video. I wish I had the patients to record some of my outings. It’s a lot of work so hats off to your efforts.
Thanks! The extra space of the Nammatj is really nice. It is a lot of work filming but I really enjoy the editing process. It’s also nice to have something to look back on for each trip. Appreciate the comment. ATB
Ohh boy the guy can cook too in a tent on top of a mountain in windchill -17. Really cook Old Owl 🦉 Alaya, who often wonders why the packet food has to come out and bet you have enough ingredients for tomorrow too ! Bravo !
Thanks man! I was using the Fjallraven Keb 72. It has an absolutely fantastic carry system. They also make a 52L version which I think is probably the perfect size.
Thanks for watching another video! Unfortunately no, I’m absolutely terrible and following recipes as I don’t like to measure anything. But for the sauce I usually use shallots or onions, mushrooms, cream cheese and chicken stock, with salt and pepper to taste. At the end top with parmesan cheese and parsley. You can put it on pasta or add any protein you want! It’s very tasty! Hope that helps.
Thanks man! I was pretty pleased with the meal! Fun to cook with two burners for once. Felt a bit more like cooking at home … haha kinda 😜. Have a great weekend!
Thanks! I actually use my carbon fiber tripod (it’s pretty beefy) as a trekking pole and it definitely helped me on this hike identify hidden streams! Because it’s also my tripod, you’re not really getting to see it in the hiking portions of the video. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! ATB
Echoing the comments made about your video. Nice work. I’d really like to know the chopping board that fits so well into that Jetboil pan. Been looking for something just like that.
Amazing how you managed to travel with so much gear! drone, camera and tripod, proper food, 4 season tent and all that warm weather gear! This is my dream but i thought i would be limited to a 1 person tent in these conditions as i am putting my gear list together for winter. Can i ask what your total pack weight was for this trip and how far you would be prepared to hike with it?
I don’t remember the exact pack weight but I believe it was around 31lbs which is the top weight I would carry. I never break the 20% rule and that’s including food and camera gear. However, I do remember this feeling surprisingly more comfortable than normal. This pack has an incredible suspension system so it made it feel lighter than it actually was. On this trip I hiked a total of six miles. For a heavier load out like this I would keep it to an overnight trip. I’d probably limit it to a round trip distance of 15miles. Anything more than that I would start changing out gear. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Hi Chris, I’m a fan of your channel! I would absolutely recommend the Nammatj 2. It’s a Hilleberg so as you’d expect it’s a quality tent. It’s easy to pitch and I have been really impressed at how well it handles the wind and the space inside is absolutely fantastic. Before I got this I would normally camp in the Enan and the Soulo, so the extra space is a real treat on those long winter nights. You do of course pay a little bit of a weight penalty and it definitely takes up more room in your pack compared to the Soulo but I have found it to still worth it. ATB man!
@@GoingSoloOutdoors thanks mate, I think it's on the ever increasing list of tent 'wants'. Impressed with your videos, a nice chilled vibe but also capturing the outdoor experience really well - subbed 👍
@@MCMOutdoors haha oh I know that feeling! The tent wants list that just keeps on growing even after you say you don’t need another. Really appreciate the support man!
Curious why you would use that alcohol stove with foil instead of one of the trangia traingle stoves with the spirit burner that has the lid to control the flame. You certainly have a lot of stoves to choose from... and a lot of Hilleberg tents...lol
This stove is extremely easy to light in cold temperatures and I was able to carry two of them at the same weight of one trangia. I was just trying a different setup with two stoves going at once to help cook things a bit faster. It worked ok. The trangia does have much better temperature control while cooking though 👍. I do have many tents. It’s a weakness 😅. I LOVE tents!
I was using the X-Boil regular and ultralight. I’ve really been enjoying it. Especially in winter as it’s easy to light when it’s really cold. Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend 👍
Really appreciate you watching! I will occasionally talk about my gear casually in my TH-cam videos or on Instagram but I have not done any formal gear review videos yet. I’m always happy to answer any questions about my gear though 👍
Thanks! Camping in the snow is my absolute favorite. I’m hoping I can make it here a few more times this year when the mountains are covered in snow ❄️🤞
In the Borrowdale area. I have found the winters in the UK to be quite mild in general. Especially when compared to the winters I had back when we lived in the states.
@GoingSoloOutdoors thanks My friend who has the Hilleberg is from Colorado so gets some chill there 😆 you did well to find snow ❄️ good luck this coming winter
Who doesn’t love a snow camp, really enjoyed this one, thanks for taking us along..👍🏻 I also got my first ever snow camp in last night, in my very own Derbyshire Peaks, was only probably 1.5” of snow on the ground where I pitched, but that’s good enough for me! I had gusty 40mph winds for around 3hrs, with a mere -10 windchill. 🥶 Still such an enjoyable experience though. 😊 ❄️⛺️☃️
Winter camping is the best, especially if you get some snow! Sounds like a good time, I’d be happy with 1.5” of snow. I just wish we’d get snow more often. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Scoot. Have a great weekend!
Great video! I could comment on a lot of things, such as I also use that tent and love it. However, what's interesting to me is how much you can fit in your winter pack. It's interesting how little actually even fits in a large pack during a winter trip. I wonder what the R-value would be on an 8 R-value inflatable pad that had a hole in it...which might be why everyone brings redundancy. Would it be an R-value of 1? 2? Has anyone tried it? I imagine it would be cold, but how cold?
Thanks! I could definitely fit much more in this 72L pack if I leave out the closed cell foam sleeping pad. I only actually put it inside because this bag is so large it can actually fit. But if I strapped it to the outside, I would have heaps of room left inside. I imagine you would be nearly spot on with your R value estimates. Most of these insulated inflated pads work because the crossed mylar layers, separate the warm air from you body and the cold air from the ground. Without that you’re basically just sleeping on a sheet of Mylar which I’ve done before and it’s nowhere close to being as warm as an inflated pad 👍. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! All the best.

ATB

to be honest, I love watching ur videos because of that tent, I've grown to love it lol. New subscriber.
😂👍 it’s a very nice tent! Really appreciate the support 😀
Nice Video,,, I have the Red Nammatj2... you may already have these, but if not, an extra set of poles to double pole if needed is nice in high winds.
Nice! It’s a fantastic tent. I do have an extra set but I have yet to use them. I’ve been pretty happy how it handles wind with just the single set of poles. But if I ever see truly terrible weather is in the forecast I will def double pole 👍. Thanks for watching! ATB
Excellent video. I thought that those foam mats should be silver side up to reflect the heat back to you?
Thanks! On the Thermarest pads you are absolutely correct, but with the Nemo Switchback foam pads it’s the reverse. Silver side down 👍. ATB

What a fabulous tent. 👌
Really loving it!
Thanks for watching David! It’s always nice to get some time in the snow!
@@GoingSoloOutdoors Yeah love winter camping but your camp looked particularly cold.
Definitely inspired and hoping to get that first snow camp in soon (just a little more confident next tine!)
Thanks for the video.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors Thanks man! Look forwards to more videos.

Another cracking adventure. Im looking at a Mont supercell ex tunnel tent. Theyre Australian. Love that pitch 👍👍👍

@@GoingSoloOutdoors
I will defiantly try cooking that.
I keep think of buying that xboil cook system.
@@grahamscothern4319 it’s a good light system. My only complaint is that you need to use something under the stove if you are going to cook in the tent. For instance I used a small soldering mat on this camp. Recently I did start using it with my trangia kit and the regular size stove fits perfectly which is cool!
@@GoingSoloOutdoors
Cheers 👍

Love it mate
Thanks man!
Nothing ever seems like a effort, cheers pal 🥩🍺👍
I don’t know. I was pretty winded on the hike trying to get up to the top before sunset 😅. Really appreciate the comment 👍!

Wow!!! Top video camera / cutting skills. Tip: If the tent pegs are frozen solid: hit the tent peg with a stone and then pull it out.
Thanks!

Another great video. Thanks. Do you have an ingredients list anywhere for chick/mushroom meal?
Thanks for watching another video! Unfortunately no, I’m absolutely terrible and following recipes as I don’t like to measure anything. But for the sauce I usually use shallots or onions, mushrooms, cream cheese and chicken stock, with salt and pepper to taste. At the end top with parmesan cheese and parsley. You can put it on pasta or add any protein you want! It’s very tasty! Hope that helps.
Great adventure mate and awesomely put together video as always. That dinner looked delicious. 👌

Great video, nice tent : but please carry a staff/pole of some sort in rough country, especially where there are possibly hidden streams or holes.
Thanks! I actually use my carbon fiber tripod (it’s pretty beefy) as a trekking pole and it definitely helped me on this hike identify hidden streams! Echoing the comments made about your video. Nice work. I’d really like to know the chopping board that fits so well into that Jetboil pan. Been looking for something just like that.
Thanks! The chopping board came from the Stanley fry pan set. Fits perfectly in the Jetboil skillet 👍
A nice trip - great conditions. Been researching the Nammatj 2 - are you still getting on okay with it / would you recommend ?
Great video,thank you 👍

Who doesn’t love a snow camp, really enjoyed this one, thanks for taking us along..👍🏻
I also got my first ever snow camp in last night, in my very own Derbyshire Peaks, was only probably 1.5” of snow on the ground where I pitched, but that’s good enough for me!
I had gusty 40mph winds for around 3hrs, with a mere -10 windchill. 🥶
Still such an enjoyable experience though.
