  • Join me on a very rainy and windy autumn camp in the Lake District. Despite the weather being a bit challenging it is always kind of nice when its like this because it makes it feel like you are traveling to the ends of the earth. Once I get the tent setup and I am able to get on some dry clothing on I begin cooking a nice warm meal with my trangia. Then it's off to bed early in anticipation of some pretty rough weather throughout the night. It did not disappoint. The earplugs didn't even help that much on this one. I do however, get a brief reprieve from the rain in the morning and am able to pack away everything before the rain and winds start once again. Hope you enjoy watching. If you have any questions or comments please leave them down below. Thanks for Watching!

    Hi.🌹Your wife should start watching the videos of your solo camping adventures; because, if my husband solo camped out in this weather with no one around I would kick his arse when he got home. 😊❤🌹 Be safe and continue to have fun, though. I like your video posts.🌹Take care.

      Definitely not ideal having to put wet boots back on in the morning, but at least the water didn’t soak through the socks until I was nearly back to the car. Thanks for watching Gillian! Have a great week!

    I watched this whole video the first time around with the subtitles on while listening to Hosanna Mantra by Popul Vuh, which goes perfectly btw, and is the exact same length of the video. But I didn't realise because of the subtitles that you are American (assumed British as you are in the Lake District), and when you kept referring to 'pants' I automatically assumed you were referring to your 'underpants'!! LOL! But great video and so good to watch someone who can actually cook, and cook Ramen too. It gets so boring watching so many others just pour boiling water into a prepack dehydrated meal. Trangier cooking is the best, and it brought back so many great memories of going camping and cooking myself. PS that coffee pod is brilliant! Approve!

      Love the thoughtful comment Tom! I tried listening to Hosanna Mantra and it does go nicely. I sometime like to add subtle music in the background of some of my videos. Especially in the hiking segments. I’ve lived here in the UK going on 3 years now and I still make the mistake of saying pants instead of trousers sometimes. 😂 I have had some particularly awkward conversations and looks at my children’s school which elicited a good laugh. Glad you liked the cooking. I enjoy cooking at home so it’s nice to relax and cook a nice meal when I’m out for a camp as well! It’s also always fun to use my cooking gear. I love the trangia 27. Such a good cook kit. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment! All the best!

    The reason that meal was so tasty is because you used the secret ingredient that Asians use that most people don't. Oyster Sauce. A little drizzle of sesame oil at the end would also add a little umami to the dish. It looked yummy though. That wind and rain was nasty Great video again. 😊

    We have watched your video and boy, what an ultra wet camp and hike it was. Hats off to you for being out there in such horrible conditions. Thank you, we were glued to it and your meal looked amazing as always. We've had a fantastic hike today in the peaks. It always amazes me that people make a big deal of being able to start a fire with a bit of moss and two twigs and go out of their way to say how close nature they feel -and then use their mobile phone/sat nav/high-tech knife/high tech tent/hi-tech clothing/high-end cooking tools, food and utensils etc. . Oh that I could survive with such primitive tools

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaelkenny8540 haha yeah I get that! I think most people that practice those techniques though are just curious to learn other more primitive methods and just have fun, myself included. Personally just going out for a peaceful camp, coffee or cook in the woods/mountains is the main goal 😀. I do find that having that knowledge really does help when something else may not work or if you forget something at home! For instance, knowing how to use a compass and a map, properly is a great skill, and depending on where you’re going, a life saving skill. Knowing how to use one will never keep me from leaving my Garmin GPS at home though 😂😂 . Have a great weekend Michael! ATB

    Another great video. The Lake District is strangely compelling in a barren sort of way, maybe it is the elements battering you all the time? There are some areas like this out here in Oregon…but we also have snow capped mountains and tons of trees…😜 with the water table basically at surface level, how do you dig cat holes to perform necessary functions? Or, are you super hard core LNT? I am wondering why your viewer base is not a lot bigger, the production value of these videos is excellent…

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is a strange beauty to the Lake District. I really enjoy the rock formations and contours of the land. Reminds me of being above the tree line with a bit more green. Fortunately there are plenty of woodlands to explore further south where I live when I want to be among the trees. The lack of trees here definitely contributes to dealing with the elements head on a bit more but I’m enjoying it. As for using the toilet I honestly just try to hold it until I can get to a proper bathroom otherwise I have a WAG bag with me. And if the conditions are horrendous outside the tent I can comfortably use it protected from the elements. I don’t worry too much about subscribers numbers. I love camping and photography so these are just my hobbies and I would be doing them anyways. Thats why I prioritize family and only make videos when I can. Which right now is unfortunately only once a month. But this still remains fun for me and that’s the most important thing 👍. Really appreciate the comment! ATB

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors

      Yes you are correct! I actually get myself confused now everytime I set it up because I read somewhere years ago that when asked, Petra said it didn’t matter if the red pole went first or last so I started just not worrying about it. However, after the black label version came out I also then heard her specify that it needed to be put last as the booklet says 😂. So yeah, I usually do put it last but in this instance I confused myself as I was setting it up but in these conditions I really wasn’t bothered to fix it. I went ahead and just kept the dry socks on and they remained dry in my boot until nearly back to the car but I had to go through a section of the footpath which was underwater by morning … so alas they soaked through again 🤣 so yeah the third set would have been nice! • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The vestibule is not huge in the Soulo but there is definitely space to cook if the weather is unsuitable for cooking outside the tent. I placed the cooked chicken on a cool pan before placing it on the footprint. I definitely wouldn’t recommend placing a pan that was just used for cooking directly on the footprint it as it could definitely destroy it. Haha sorry not trying to encourage big purchases! If you don’t find yourself in these conditions often and you can choose another day for a camp, the Soulo is definitely overkill for most camps! So do you find the G10 fabric wets out eventually? I take it you didn't have waterproof trousers over your hiking trousers?

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve found the water resistance of my G1000 garments really depends on how recently and how much I’ve waxed them prior to use in wet conditions. I actually had a g1000 Keb jacket on for the hike in and traditional 2.5 layer waterproof trousers over my g1000 Keb trousers. What I found quite interesting was the G 1000 jacket wetted out around the same time that the waterproof trousers wetted out which soaked my trousers underneath. Both were able to keep me dry for the 4 - 4.5 miles I was hiking in the rain prior to setting up camp. It was that last really windy heavy downpour as I was setting up the tent when water soaked through them both. This was, however, the first time that water has penetrated my waterproof trousers. I had a second thin waterproof jacket that I wore for the hike back and that also soaked through eventually in similar conditions towards the end of the hike back to the car. I’m really glad you asked this question because I think this trip made me even more impressed with G 1000s water resistance and the ability to change its water repellency with Greenland wax. I often choose to use it in rainy conditions because it usually keeps me dry and I find it a much more breathable material. I expected the G 1000 to wet out eventually but I’ve been thinking a lot about why my waterproof thin jacket and trousers soaked through! Overtime those materials can lose some of their water repellency, but sticking them in the dryer for a brief period usually brings it back. Haha sorry for the long response I guess I am just thinking out loud! 😂 So in short, yes g1000 does wet out eventually and I did have traditional waterproof trousers over my g1000 hiking trousers and they both soaked through. Again sorry for the long response. All the best!

      👍 solid advice … but better advice would be to stop trying to film yourself when the sky is falling 🤣. All jokes aside, normally I roll the tent out and stake it down over an area first because I’m not always positive it will fit between the rocks in a particular area. If I was using an inner pitch first tent, getting the poles ready first would be absolutely mandatory! Luckily these single pitch tents normally stay dry inside for me while pitching in the rain as mostly the fly is exposed. Usually it’s not until I open the door that the elements flood in. But yeah poles first is a great idea 👍. Especially if you know for sure your tent will fit a space!

      I was a sous chef for a brief period of time and seriously considered culinary school at one point but I’m just a cooking enthusiast. Appreciate the compliment though. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

    I want to know the geology history of this area …why are there no Trees?

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Humans have been in the UK for centuries. Many of the trees were cut down for building or to create land for grazing animals or agriculture. Sad but also goes to show the long term effects humans can have on an environment.

    Such a great tarn, I went up there a couple of week ago and had exactly the same conditions you have encountered along with torrential rain for 2 hours 😂, I went there last week again in better conditions, have a look at my video on my channel pal, great footage by the way

      Thanks! I’ll be sure to take a look at your channel! It’s a great area. I was a little bummed I didn’t make it to my original destination but the hike was a bit shorter in the morning which was nice as it poured again nearly the entire hike back. We’re definitely getting that rain we missed over the summer! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! ATB
