I am new to Jon's videos, but loving them. A genuine and likeable guy, he seems supremely skilful and refreshingly down to earth. Feels like you're on the bank with a top friend. Good to see you can even catch a few with recycled bait!!
Really enjoy your natural venue videos Jon, Getting out before the crack of sparrows for a short session before the world wakes up and back in time for a fry up is far better than laying in bed.
Love having a session on the Chesterfield canal around Kiveton Park, a narrow canal that's stuffed with fish set in beautiful surroundings....some would say 'proper fishing' lol.
Great angling again Jon can't remember getting up that early for fishing these days I'm getting a bit lazy but some nice fish there. Went out yesterday for the first time sinse the lift to avoid the crowd's so looking forward to it but would you believe it they just started spowning that morning and the last thing on there mind was feeding and so not the best day as previously to that nets of 200lb+ of Carp + 60 to 80lb of Skimmers we're caught tippical!! But managed to wangle a few out in hard conditions. The main thing is getting out on the bank can't wait to when they have finished. Bet you can't wait to see your daughter catching her first fish that will be special. Thank's for the vid again Jon you and family stay safe.
Nice one Jon. It wets my appetite as I've another three weeks of shielding before I can think of wetting a line. just like the old days it brings the excitement of what will that first session bring. Tight lines and best wishes to you and yours
Well worth trying whiskers cat food! The one in jelly has bite size lumps of food. Devistating results. Poultry flavour is the best. I’ll look out for the video!!
awesome video again jon.i have not been for 3 months now really missing it now.because my wife as got health issues so I can not chance it.if it's going to be much longer I will have to move out lol..
Ha ha, I knew someone would say that. She really wasn't my type though! I stared just as much at the old boy walking his dog with his very loud wellies on, but that never made the final cut! ;-)
Hi Jon another nice short session. The Oxford seems to be very different to the GUC as I always have coloured water and more depth and no zander but lots of crays! I catch plenty of slabs on lobworm and even little skimmers the same size as the worm on quite robust rigs, it's odd how they don't mind taking big baits on big hooks, not usual skimmer tactics I know but it works on my stretch. I guess that's the puzzle of fishing. Bill
This stretch of canal: Banbury and District licences will be available from tackle shops, Castaway in Banbury or Ace Tackle, Kidlington, early June hopefully or contact information on the CRT web site.
IMO, perch are one of the most intelligent coarse fish, they are just easy to catch, the smaller ones anyway, because they are brazen opportunists, like crows, or those people who try and sell you SKY tv in the town centre.

Jhon that’s so weird I had a red deer trotting down the canal just last week I couldn’t get my camera out quick enough but I managed to get it running away over a feild
Yes I love fishing that when conditions are right. It's won me a bit of money on rivers. Theres no plumbing involved, just try the length of the rig to the depth of the swim.
Came here from a suggestion. U.K freshwater is mad finesse! Cant even walk past the water without spooking a fish! Crazy Telescope things? Wtf? Always strange to see the world's tactics.
as a fisherman myslef i was told you cannot fish on canels or rivers in the close season like between march 16th to june the 16th and we are in may.. am i corrrect or have i been lied to
The majority of canals haven't had a close season for many many years. However, rivers are still subject to the traditional March 15th to June 15th shutdown AND this also includes just a handful of canals that are directly connected to a river. Check the Environment Agency website for more details.

You know it! ;-)
Really enjoy your natural venue videos Jon, Getting out before the crack of sparrows for a short session before the world wakes up and back in time for a fry up is far better than laying in bed.
Glad you enjoyed it. I fish until the stomach starts rumbling :-)
So glad I'm not the only person to count down before switching swims or rebaiting... then counting down a bit more... then maybe once more...
I often count down from 10 then back up to 10. Then 10 and a bit!
Love having a session on the Chesterfield canal around Kiveton Park, a narrow canal that's stuffed with fish set in beautiful surroundings....some would say 'proper fishing' lol.
Sounds great!
Thank you Jon. I really enjoy your vids. Kept me sane!!
Great to hear!
Great to see some fishing back
Glad you enjoyed it
Well done the perchmaster!👍👍
Thanks Martin. Sure I could've had a lot more if I'd carried on fishing into the afternoon...
Great video

Really enjoyed this one its been over 35 years since i last fished on a canal
Get back on them!

Enjoyed your video Jon and thanks for the update on keepnets when fishing CRT canals, would've taken ages to find this out otherwise.

My husband Alan has fished Chesterfield Canal today Shireaoaks area in the strong wind he had a good haul of Chubb , Bream , Roach & Perch
Sounds great! I have a few nice canal chub pegs I fancy, but they're all a bit far away at the moment...
Wow what a shame you didn’t get that deer on camera. Good stuff again JA cheers.
Next time!

I don't think May is the best month to showcase the Oxford's potential, but there are still fish to be caught...
I've noticed somebody has given you a thumbs down?... Must have been the jogger lol!.. Another great vid Jon,thank you.
Ha ha, always one or two dingbats out there. A few of us know who one of the serial trolls is and he should know better really...
Jon Arthur Angling no banana - thumbs down 😂
Another great video John I'd love a morning or evening on the canal with you reckon we would have a great time
Sounds good. You can bring the snacks! ;-)
No problem john theres a reason I've got a large bait tray 👍
This stretch of canal: Banbury and District licences will be available from tackle shops, Castaway in Banbury or Ace Tackle, Kidlington, early June hopefully or contact information on the CRT web site.
The loud one is a wren
X sport in Beaumont leys is open if your interested, loads of tackle and bait in a big warehouse tackle shop
IMO, perch are one of the most intelligent coarse fish, they are just easy to catch, the smaller ones anyway, because they are brazen opportunists, like crows, or those people who try and sell you SKY tv in the town centre.
The bigger ones certainly don't like getting caught again
Hi Jon great vid! I’ve got 3 top kits so what grades of slik elastics should I put through them, I fish for mainly f1s and carp
This time of year, 10-12 Slik for F1s and 12-14 for a bit of everything and 14-16 for bagging bigger ones.
Oh come on. A couple of nice stick's. They would do for me, LMAO
Branching out? :-)
I'll go out on a limb here and say that your barking mad. Take care
Great little trip right mate what camera do u use on your side tray 👍👍
Just a little GoPro
Where did you here keep nets could be used on canals again when did they chance that thanks

I actually turned my camera off thinking I was turning it on. Doh!
Hi Jon, have you tried the pole feeder if so how do you plumb the depth. ?
Yes I love fishing that when conditions are right. It's won me a bit of money on rivers. Theres no plumbing involved, just try the length of the rig to the depth of the swim.
Came here from a suggestion. U.K freshwater is mad finesse! Cant even walk past the water without spooking a fish! Crazy Telescope things? Wtf? Always strange to see the world's tactics.
Yes us English fishermen are are very strange folk, ha ha! :-)
NO keep nets...……..has it changed? cant wait for the rivers to open.
You can use them as of this week on canals again.
What type of landing net handle are you using on the canal? Please.
Matrix Aquos 4m, but with just two of the three sections, so it's about 2.8m
Jon Arthur Angling thank you I thought it was, I’m contemplating to get one of those they look pretty sturdy, do you also use it for carp pools?
Boats out on the heck (canal) Thursday but no deer just a peacock on my car
Hope it wasn't stuck to the grill! ;-)
Jon Arthur Angling would have been nice for it to leave a payment in quills instead of the mess of bird pooh .😱
Hey Jon, what did you use to mark your top kit please?
A white chinagraph pencil
Jon Arthur Angling perfect, cheers Jon.
👏👏🎣
what was the thing you marked your depth with. kevin
A white chinagraph pencil. Very useful and less messy than tippex.

Bloody pad grrrrrany chance of more info on the keepnet situation can't find it on Angling trust Thanks
Keepnets are now allowed on most canals as of this week.
This week. It's near the bottom of this page: canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/safety-on-our-waterways/coronavirus/coronavirus-and-angling

Why do you tie your pole sock off Jon?
Because it's too long for me, so a cable tie shortens it.
🧘🏼♂️👌🏻
