Really enjoy these canal videos, the bost maggot made me laugh it’s defo a Black Country/ Walsall thing, I’m always saying it. Look forward to the next video 👍
Thanks for that one Jon, always a pleasure just watching that float disappear no matter what the size of fish.Shame nowadays youngsters only want to fish for carp...
Lovely video showing , how hard it can be fishing the canal. Like you say Jon nice to be outside. Days like this make you appreciate the good days more. Entertaing as usual 👍
I’ll go there again hopefully in the new year. Only seem to catch chub on that bit there though (I like the peg below the railway), unless you can point me elsewhere?
@@JonArthur Good peg , better in autumn. Go further down and fish last bend before straight. Can get slack water and eddy close in if flow is right. Chance of fish on float fished maggot if water bit coloured. Backend of season Cherwell is pretty much chub or nothing these days and legered bread and cheese is easiest way to catch - travel light and move a lot. If you go back for big roach at bottom of long meadow you need a time machine - you'll have to go back 35 years. ( I had some bream between boats on canal below Heyford station yesterday - that's a spot worth a try your next canal trip.) Tight lines.
I went on the river thurne here on the norfolk broads I forgot my cup so had to drink me tea from my small pole cup tasted a tad of fishmeal,oh and I blanked!
Nice to see a bit of canal fishing reminds me of the colour of Shropshire union canal I was brought up on in the 70s once again a very good video thank you
Shroppy always had a reasonable colour from the boats. The boats have pretty much stopped on the canal by me so it’s been tap water until all that cold rain came and muddied it up. Keep thinking about a trip back to the Shroppy…
Love the Wides, next to the river bridge on a summer’s evening there’s some great fish but not a lot of Chub these days and Dace, haven’t seen one for years
Used to be a large group of big carp under that bridge which would move into the canal in the evening, also used to catch a lot of chub on the far bank using pepperami. Probably 20 years ago and things have probably changed now.
They've definitely changed a lot. Zander and stacks of crayfish are present now and very few carp. Oxford Canal used to be full of carp, especially Somerton area. Pretty sure they've been electrofished out more than poached, which is a huge shame :-(
100 % dedication to your sport and the channel Jon. Thanks for sharing all of the videos this year. Looking forward to what you have in store for us next year. A happy and healthy new year to you and your family. Take care :-)
Enjoyable video. I walk my local canal, the Staffs/Worcs in Kinver at this time of year and you can see the bottom even down the track. I did try it as I miss my canal fishing but could see my liccy on the bottom so gave up. I'm going to join some clubs next year to give me some more options as there are a few in the area. Happy new year.
Well done Jon,love that sort of fishing as it really challenges you. Lot’s of sections on the Witham winter leagues were won fishing half a squatt for a pair of eyes. It made me smile watching this video and brought back a lot of good memories. Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy new year mate.
Hi John Am a young Angela been fishing for years fished A lot of open matches and club matches but this year I thought I’d fish a few fish’O Haven’t fished in them big matches before any tips mate. Love the videos mate keep up the good work
Go there with an open mind and don't be too disappointed if it's tight pegging and often quite tough fishing with only a handful of people catching well... but when you do it's awesome and anyone can win off the right peg on the day, so good luck!
Welcome aboard. On my shorter missions like this I often just pack my Matrix MTX2 power pole, which is a lovely bit of kit for the money. On competitions I generally use my top of the range MTX4.
Thanks again Jon. Always appreciate your content. Do you do anything to keep your hands warm? This time of year mine always get cold, and need to wear some sort of gloves, which invariably the hook gets attached to. Happy New year to you and your family.
I've always rubbed vaseline really well into my hands on cold and wet days. I try and avoid gloves unless I really have to, sometimes use latex gloves with two fingers chopped off. Best solution for cold hands for me is to endure it and fish through 'the wall' and eventually you'll get through the pain barrier. That's getting harder the older I get though!
I’ve been doing the same thing all year fishing the Kenner and Avon canal travelling light catching loads of fish and haven’t seen another angler. Very neglected bits of water.
Hardly any shops sell squatts these days round by me and they’re often poor when they do. Used to get lovely fat buttery squatts but seem to be tiny underfed things if you’re lucky to find any and no amount of bread and milk will fatten them up!
Great video Jon, as usual think your enthusiasm is infectious. In the words of Harry Enfield what a thoroughly nice bloke.
Thanks Gordon, but I can have my off days, ha ha!
today iam glad to be in the warm as you said in other vid allways rains well done giving us something to watch
2022 better be dryer!
I must admit I always thought people were having me on when they told me they caught on half a pinkie! I will have to give it a go.
It can certainly be a blank saver!
That was great Jon, not something you tend to see nowadays. Loved the bost pinkie, not seen that before! 👍🏻👍🏻
Hopefully we won't see many 'bost pinkie' pegs this year!
Nice one. Beats sat in front of television any day 👍
Thanks Darrell

Glad you enjoyed it. Love a bit of black country dialect! Yam olroyt?
Great idea with the bust pinkie. Must give it a go.
Blank saver!
Bost pinkies and carsters : Great video Jon. Best Wishes for 2022.
And maggits! :-)

Nice one Jon. You've learnt me bossed pinkay 😁 I've heard Bob nudd doing it but always wondered how he went about it. Now I know 🤯
Glad to help

Nice to see you off them fish tanks and on a proper venue. I'd like to see you tackle the Cherwell over the bridge and downstream a bit.
I’ll go there again hopefully in the new year. Only seem to catch chub on that bit there though (I like the peg below the railway), unless you can point me elsewhere?
Used to be a lot of bream below the bridge, not sure if they are there now, the Cherwell has really declined in the last 50yrs

Nice video Jon, interesting with the busted pinkee
Cheers Pedro
Thx for that Jon. Really shows your dedication & passion for angling 😉
Sometimes we just need to get out, whatever the forecast! 🙈
Brilliant Jon like you said a bite is what you want on a cold day.plus I went to day & blanked you cheered me up.
Oh dear! Did you try a ‘bost’ pinkie? 👍
The ‘bost’ pinky !! 😂😂😂that brought back instant memories of early 90’s winter leagues . Trying catch a net full of ‘eyes’ ☺️thanks Jon . All the best
Glad you enjoyed it!
Well done. Always good to get out in the fresh air, fish are a bonus Jon.

Enjoyed that Jon! Can be just as satisfying scratching a few out on a hard day in poor conditions as bagging - just as long as its not too often 🤣
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Jon 👍
👍👍
very good Jon for sticking it out, well done 🎣thank you
Thanks James
The appliance of science! Excellent demonstration of pre baiting for fish in specific areas 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice scratching action Jon, and a welcome mention for God's country Walsall. ❤
Loved my days fishing round Walsall. Yam olroyt!
@@JonArthur Ar. Aye it.
Bosted pinkie fair play Jon. You will be feeding squats up on bread and milk next mate..
Ha ha, yep why not. Just finding squatts in a shop these days is the difficult thing!
Class John Arthur, you always get out 👍👍🎣🎣
Hoping for a dryer 2022!
Less of that Yam Yam business Jon boy 😅. Fair play for braving the conditions nice one mate 👍

Reminds me of fishing on Hungerford canal 30 years ago very enjoyable few hours. nicely done John all the best to you and the family for 2022.

Love the Wides, next to the river bridge on a summer’s evening there’s some great fish but not a lot of Chub these days and Dace, haven’t seen one for years
Cheers Dave. One of the tiny fish I had was actually a little dace. Had some very big ones on the Cherwell, but not many.

Better than sitting in the house. On some canals that would have been a mega catch.
Cheers Mike, just two weeks before you could see the bottom of this canal!
