This is excellent. How to fish a typical peg. Much more helpful than seeing someone sat in a selected swim that we're only likely to draw once in a blue moon. Great advice from Simon as always. Thanks.
Great video Simon thankyou very much, really helpful how you explained how you'd tackle a standard canal swim and how you adapted as the day went on. Nice net of fish that. Can I ask is it difficult to get hold of Hydra Poles in the UK and how expensive are they? Is there a dedicated UK website? Thanks for any pointers. Cheers
Hi Jonny Thanks for comment. I’ve asked Simon about poles. There isn’t a Hydra stockist in UK currently. However he’s working on it for 2024….fingers crossed
Really enjoyed that, not fished a match for over 20 years. Match fishing on canals was my first and only love for 30 years. I would liked to have seen how you would have approached that session if it was a team match, fishing for section points in a league, my favourite type of match. My home venue was Scotland's Forth & Clyde Canal so no skimmers, just perch and roach with an outside chance of a tench (not worth considering!) a very different approach was required. Your net of fish would have won 90% of our matches. Glad to have found your channel 👍👍
@@topfuelteddy Maybe it's because they never fish them as i know many younger anglers who have never ever fished a canal or river but each to their own. I have fished commercials and will probably have the odd pleasure fish on them in the future when my Mrs will enjoy the day out in the sunshine but they are not for me as a match venue
@@stesmith7373 Totally agree, each to their own , just don't like seeing commercials take a constant verbal hammering . I personally know loads of elderly match anglers that can only carry on fishing because they can drive to their pegs and park behind. Personally I like both , my local Nene should be coming into decent winter form providing we don't too much rain .I'm on a canal next week though and out of the last 3 matches I've fished on there ( we have a canal match once a year) nobody has topped a pound !
@@topfuelteddyI've actually won sections of 12 and 20 pegs on canals with weights between 2 oz and 11oz hard earned but so satisfying 😌. I believe the Nene is a fantastic venue one that has escaped me despite fishing plenty of nationals and winter leagues around the country
Going back 20-25+ years ago, that section used to be full of Carp running around the 3-5lb mark. I would fish the pole for them at 9m, down the track, in the summer months (a lot of fun) while my fishing buddy bagged on Hemp-fished Roach. Are the Carp still there, or have they moved on now?
@@FenlandFishingTV Thanks, that would be great. I fished this section 18 months ago while on holiday, opposite "Sweet Caroline", just 60m or so from where you are in this video. Roach and skimmers, as well as some bigger bream, were there in numbers but I saw no sign of the carp. Perhaps I was a bit far from the locks this time.

Hi, what a lovely comment. Thank you.
I hope to get a lot more Match related content out this year.
Just waiting on the anglers to have a free slot 👍🏼
Proper fishing 🎣 not like all those carp puddles 😊
👍🏼
I see there's a place for both .
The only thing is I don't ever hear commercial anglers denigrating natural waters .
