This band just seemed to be having fun without taking themselves so seriously. They gave us absolute anthems of their times and took SO much heat for the rebelliousness of their songs and image. Again, they were easily identified and targeted at the time, but it was so lighthearted that they really didn't deserve it. The result was Dee Snider being called to testify in front of an American Senate committee in the midst of the 'Satanic Panic'. I think his testimony, along with John Denver and Frank Zappa, helped turn the focus on to how out of touch, paranoid, arrogant and irresponsible the SENATORS (and their wives) were being in demanding that music be strictly censored. Ultimately, music was forced to be labelled for certain content, but the movement to ban or outright censor the music was stopped. The hearings are fascinating and eye opening, even though the quality will suffer due to the age of the recordings.

Their album "Stay Hungry" is, in my opinion, a masterpiece that has stood the test of time. It's an album I still listen to and draw power from. Much like The Trooper by Iron Maiden, I'm Gonna Rock and Weŕe Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister are gems of the metal industry that rockers of most ages know well, have heard, or just relate to. Contrary to public belief, Dee Snider can sing very very well, and can deliver a killer vibrato when he feels like digging that deep.
To those who were around in 1985, he was the General who took the 'flag of music' into battle against the PRMC, or as Blackie Lawless referred to them during a concert in Long Beach, Ca. with his band WASP, "The Washington Wives". The PRMC began a censorship battle against many bands - aka the Filthy 15 - which included even the likes of John Denver for his song "Rocky Mountain High".
For the metal scene, Dee Snider took up arms and completely blew everyone away with a speech that many still remember today.
Beth, if you ever get the chance, I strongly urge you to look up "Dee Snider PMRC", right here on TH-cam.
Sit back and listen to a man who looks like a degenerate, but speaks as eloquently and long-winded as a politician.
You can practically hear the opposition think to themselves "Hey, this fellow can put words together." Yep, better than they can.

@@RQuinton79 Denver actually had to explain that the "high" in Rocky Mountain High was the elation he felt whenever he saw the mountains, knowing he was home again and close to the ones he loved.
It wasn't until many years later that I found out about what he was really like in his private life, with drugs and alcohol, physical abuse ... he life was upside down.
But during the PMRC hearings, the public - myself included - was amazed that one of his songs had made THAT list and that he actually had to try and defend the lyrics.
      It was comical.

I’ve always enjoyed this classic, upbeat hard rock/metal song. To me it really scores big with its melodies. And yes, it’s good that women are now so much more a part of the actual music and playing. There are lots of talented female musicians so there’s every reason they should be the bands themselves.

Hello from New England...Woman have been celebrated in metal music for yrs and I don't think a grown woman making the decision to be part of a stage show is objectifying them..They made the choice and are approaching it as a paid gig nobody forced them to take part in the show but in principle I do agree if the audience is enjoying it why distract them...With that said great vid and Twisted Sister was one of the first Mtv bands that I got into as a kid...Thx for the awesome vid Beth.. Hey! It's a great point and I'm sure as individuals they made the choice and had a great time on tour with Twisted Sister. I don't knock their choice as it was right for them. But for me, it reminds me that when I was younger I felt like I couldn't give value to world because I didn't see very many women forging their way outside of their sexuality. It felt like the only women who could be successful out of that was people who were really aggressive. Young Beths brain felt like because I'm not aggressive and didn't want to present myself completely by my sexuality, I couldn't be successful. I'm not speaking for everyone of course, but I know a lot of women who feel the same way. I also know, that that general vibe has changed a lot and I welcome that. That you see a lot more women fronting bands (the percentage of women to men fronting metal band has never been equal) and I think that is because more people realise it is an option. Hope that makes sense!

Dee Snider carried the flag in the battle against censorship back in the 80's, when blaming music for social issues like violence, suicide and several crimes started.
For example, they had a song named Under The Blade. It was about one of the band members having surgery. Instead, a parent's committee decided it was about sado masochism and tried to have it banned from radio.

Yes. Dee Snider is actually a contralto and is a great voice. He's one of those people that doesn't really show it that much but it's definitely there. Plus they were just a really fun band to see back in the eighties. Very catchy songs and definitely didn't take things so seriously. It interesting aside that may be in the comments while you may mention in the video as I have not finished watching it all yet, is he also wrote the magic of Christmas Day by Celine Dion that did very well. He calls his house the house that Celine built because he paid for it out of the royalties he made from that song.

Twisted Sister was my first ever real rock concert, during their Come Out and Play tour in the mid 1980's. Later in the early 1990's I got a chance to do a face-to-face interview with Dee Snider for my college radio station. he was great, and later that night put on a great show with his solo band Widowmaker.
Bittersweet to see AJ Pero in this video. RIP.

Dee Snider { The Vocalist } sang in choir / school ( I Think he might have had some training beyond that, Theres a slight memory of an interview with him in my head Of him saying something about like a juillyard or something } He's had 4 to 6 throat / Vocal chord operations because of singing hard Rock /Metal . Vocal pollups &/or knodes

Give it a break will you, it's all in fun and enjoyment. No women were injured in the making of this video nor were they forced to go on stage. When did we earn the right to NOT be offended.

A few years ago Dee Snider did an solo accoustic version of this song, I believe it was for a childhood cancer fundraising. It really showcases his vocals. Very emotional, and very well done.
I was a Twisted Sister fan in the 80's, and their song "The Price" is probably my all-time favorite TS song.

If you want a more wholesome version, Dee Snider (the lead singer) did a scaled back acoustic version to raise money for Cancer Research. th-cam.com/video/6nDIcbPL43g/w-d-xo.html
I would also suggest, that in fairness to the band, traditionally they wore Lingerie on stage themselves... in biker bars. If I recall correctly Dee's wife chose his outfits.

I went to a Meatloaf tribute Bat Out Of Hell concert earlier this year done by Aussie rockers Chocolate Starfish led by Adam Thompson. And yeah he's not Meatloaf as there was only one Meatloaf. But when I closed my eyes at times I was transported back to when I seen Meatloaf live in Melbourne. And I can tell you I could see the great man himself on stage belting out those classic tracks imperfections and all. Oh that would be a good reaction too. Chocolate Starfish cover of You're So Vain

One of my favorite singers, favorite bands from my early teens to this very day, over 30 years later! As dark, aggressive, and anti-establishment as rock/heavy metal can be and is, there was always Pure Fun and Joy that the artists and we as the audience always connected with and never took ourselves too seriously!

If you really want to hear him sing (and SING this song), look for the Criss Angel version. Dee did an acoustic (do you call it that if the only instrument is a piano? Dunno...) to benefit child cancer victims. You will FEEL this song in a totally different way.

Joyful? - It's partly due to the lyrics. They're hitting you. Second, I have a red head person nearby me (and I had an orange cat). Reds pour out from the heart. That's one aspect of your channel that I like. You say the same at 4:40. All heart!!

"Distracting Dancers" have been part of the rock/pop scene for a long time. Check out videos from such music programs from the '60s as "Shindig" and "Hullabaloo". The dancing is actually laughable to a large extent but it's still distracting not to mention the screaming fans in the audience.

The girls onstage were wearing vastly more clothing than the latest generation of “singers”. In fact the latest generation while twirking and humping the camera while singing lewd lyrics are marketed sexually.
A couple of girls in bikinis dancing onstage is almost family friendly in comparison.

I think you nailed it perfectly, there is such joy when you hear the song playing. No matter where you are, it just makes you want to get up and dance. It is such an exciting and energetics song. I also agree with your point about not needing the naked dancers in the background. Just show me what I want, which is this awesome band! And I am very glad we have, for the most part moved away from that sort of objectification.

Another great sing he did more recently was "Dead Hearts (Love They Enemy)" featuring Alyssa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy. He does the power vocals and she does the clean vocals, and it's a great contrast.
He also did a cover of this song on piano for childhood cancer awareness, where he shaved off most of his hair.
