Hi Mrs.Jenny and Mr.Jerry. I just love your theme music 🎶. It reminds me of Bonaza the old TV show. I get so happy when I hear it. Your channel has helped me so much during this pandemic. Thank you so much. I love garden answer also.
You guys have the best opening. I just enjoy that upbeat music and Jenny's expressions. When Jerry was behind the tall grass and it shimmied I thought of Cousin It. 😁 I love that tree! But living in zone 4 b I wouldn't say it's super hardy. I planted 'The Blues' weeping Colorado blue spruce and it's similar in size, color and quirkiness. Powis Castle smells so wonderful. It reminds me of a blue bath product I once got in Canada. Mulch makes every garden look so polished. Here in Minneapolis, they forecast up to 5" of snow tomorrow! I haven't pulled out my annuals, cut back my perennials or put away my furniture. Yikes! I doubt it'll last, but the temps won't go higher than 40s for the foreseeable future. Brrr!
Thank you! When I said it was really hardy I was thinking of it from the perspective of being hardy with our heat. It can be very challenging to find blue evergreen trees that can handle our heat & humidity. Perhaps “heat tolerant” would have been a more appropriate term, but it is still a quite heat hardy tree for us Southerners!
I'm happy I found this video! We live in the upstate of SC and I'm about to plant a Deodar Cedar. Very helpful to know how to deal with the clay, thanks!
I think this is my favorite video so far. And I've binge watched them all the last couple of months ☺. I love fall, and fall plants, and this bed is stunning!
Hello from Australia. Great colours.....lime green and silvery grey. You made a big job look so easy, hope you found a home for that superb purple grass.
You are a gardener after my own heart. I love how you name plants, call them her/him etc.!!!! I name many of mine. Maybe a southern thing ;-) Love your channel and all you teach and share.
I love that area. The Blue Atlas is on my wish list. Now I have to have one. That is a beautiful area although it was hard to see the euphorbia come up.
Thanks so much for using the auger!! I live in TN and also have dense, damp clay soil and have debated on purchasing one because I thought it might be a bigger mess than actual help. You've answered my Q. Thanks again!!
@@GardeningwithCreekside when we lived there my Mom decided she wanted to put in a vegetable garden, all I can say its a good thing she had 4 kids at the time. That was the absolute worst. Garden was awesome ! Digging in clay not so much.
I love, love ,love that wispy look of this tree. The added plants with their colours really enhance the style and colour of the house . Although the grass was nice, I find that they are better situated in a garden where less structure is required . (I need someone to dig the holes for my shrubs and trees too! ) Gorgeous!
Actually got a big one on clearance and realized there was no way it was going to fit in my tiny yard, so my friend planted it in her yard and I stop by and visit it and tell it how great it looks!!! (Don`t think I am crazy ) 🤣🤣🤣
Really hardy 6 to 9 😂. I saw one of these in a picture and wanted it so bad but of course not hardy enough for me. Next best thing is watching yours grow! 😊
I thought the same thing. I'm in zone 4 b. I planted a similar looking tree you might want to consider. 'The Blues' weeping Colorado blue spruce. It stays pretty small.
@@Edu_Kate Thanks for recommending The Blues. I’ve been looking for something like that and was so disappointed in the video when she said it’s only hardy to z6. I’m going to look for The Blues instead.

Love that dwarf blue atlas there's the big ones around here I had one when I sold my farm it was left there it was my favorite but never knew there was dwarfs of it I'll need to see if anyone in north alabama can get them I have a smaller yard so it be perfect
After watching your video I ordered the Hortsmann Blue Atlas Cedar and have it now . It’s only 18 inches tall and like you I have hard clay to deal with . We also can get 60 inches of rain some years . I’ve read they need good drainage so I’m going to plant it up on a mound and mix in some porous volcanic rock as I’ve read will help . Do you think that is necessary? How is your cedar doing after a year ? Thanks and great video , it was inspiring!
Ah! Gotta love that Carolina clay😁 really nice combination! I love blues in the garden. I think Osmanthus smells like apricots. Y'all do make a great team😉
Did I hear you say " Dyed Brown Mulch " ??? .... I was under the impression that the dye is not good for flowering plants ... What kind of mulch is it ... ??? .... I have used ... Leaf mulch --- here in central Ohio --- for years and absolutely Love what it does for the health of my plants and the soil ( of course ) .... anyway Love the Blur Atlas Cedar that you put in ..... Thanks for sharing ...... Hugs ....... Shirlene
Nice for now, but have you considered how big the cedar tree will grow if you are not planning to move it? Important when planting near a foundation as the roots could cause damage. The root balls of trees grow quite large (think the height of the tree). If the mature height is 30 feet, that’s how big the root ball will be. However, the look you have achieved is stunning!
It came with a bamboo rod attached to it so we will leave it in there and just let the tree grow. Once the roots are firmly established it should be fine.
I saw one of those trees on Cape Cod this summer and I’ve been trying to figure out what kind it was since then. Mystery solved! I also called it a Dr. Seuss tree :)
What if you are creating a new garden area...up against the house like this, is it ok to replace and dig up all the clay and add 1ft deep of compost, amended soils, broken down leaves, etc.??
@@meggiwick7601 I did too but since it is an annual it’s days we’re numbered, and I wanted the tree to have plenty of time to get it’s roots established 😊

Hi great video. I have one of these growing in neighbour’s yard. Can we make tea from the needles?
Nice for now, but have you considered how big the cedar tree will grow if you are not planning to move it? Important when planting near a foundation as the roots could cause damage. The root balls of trees grow quite large (think the height of the tree). If the mature height is 30 feet, that’s how big the root ball will be.

We sure did! The mature height for this tree is 6-10” so we’ve got plenty of room. This isn’t our first rodeo 😉
NICE
That is so beautiful with the color or your house. How do you know how often to water the pansies. I live in zone 8.
I watered them in well after planting, and then for the most part I've let the rain do the rest!
That’s a lot of work for just one day!
Looks beautiful! How long do you keep the hosrtsmann supported?

I just bought a house and I have a blue atlas cedar within 2 ft of my house. It's probably about 20 feet tall. Are these trees bad for the foundation?
What if you are creating a new garden area...up against the house like this, is it ok to replace and dig up all the clay and add 1ft deep of compost, amended soils, broken down leaves, etc.??
There is no need to remove the clay soil, just amend.
How big does the root system get on the Horstmann Blue Atlas Cedar? Do you need to worry about the roots being so close to the house?
Don't you feel guilty when pulling up the annuals when they still look beautiful?
Only a little bit. They have given me months of color & enjoyment and have had a good run. It's now time to let someone else shine!
I liked the vertigo Grass 😏

Jenny, what type of rake is Jerry using? This is the perfect tree for my small CT backyard. I'm concerned if it will survive since we're zone 6a
It is called a bedding fork, and you should be able to get it at any big box store.
