Jenny, I was screaming at you when you started planting the wrong variety. My husband came in to see who I was yelling at! I really felt for you when it dawned on you. But you recovered well and just moved on. Loved watching the process. Can’t wait to see their progress throughout the summer!

Me too! I was yelling ‘Wait! That’s the wrong one!’ Such is the life of a gardener and entrepreneur. Like you say you “show us the good, the bad, and the ugly”, but then you fix it, move on, and before you know it everything is coming up roses! Thank you for demystifying bare root roses. We just started making our garden last year and I was planning to add a couple tea roses this year. Now I’m confident to go for it!

I love David Austin Roses. I bought 5 new bare root roses, including Desdemona this year. I planted them up in November and they are all starting to flush out with new growth. I am very lucky and live only a 30 minute drive from David Austin Roses in Shropshire, England, so I love to go in summer and walk around the gardens which are amazing (then usually buy another couple!). Love your channel. Although I live in England I get so much inspiration and have learned so much from you. Thank you.

Excellent timing! I have a DA climber I need to move. It was in sun, but now too much shade. The Bayer 3-1 is an amazing product. It would work better if the nut behind the jar was more reliable about it’s application. 🤣🌹 Looking forward to seeing yours grown on and bloom. 👏

Jenny, I’m a huge DA rose lover, so I had to check this video out. Give those rose a few years and you will be AMAZED at the beauty and the scent that they’ll provide. Just wanted to note, regarding the Gertrude Jekyll rose, she tends to want to be a climber more than a neat shrub rose. She gets the long octopus growth and can be somewhat hard to manage. I will say she is a beauty and the scent is out of this world! Also, be cautious of her thorns, they are deadly. She’s one of the thorniest roses I’ve ever seen! Take care! 🌹 🪴 🌸

    So,
    1. biotone in the hole when you plant.
    2. land and sea only once when you plant?
    3. And the granular fertilizer one cap full per plant, once a month? And who make the Rose and flower 3 in 1?
Thanks girl! I just planted a bunch of roses! Not David Austin, but a nice road trip will fix that! I looked on the site for nursery locations here in Texas! I'd like to see them in person and bring them home right away! I'm too impatient to wait on shipping! 🤣

I also got my first David Austin Climbing Rose last year and love it. When I plant my bareroot roses I dig the hole the correct size and in the middle of the hole I make a mound of dirt and set my rose on the top allowing the roots to hug the mound. This helps to keep the rose in place and helps with the difficulty of pushing dirt through the web of roots to fill in the gaps. I can't wait to see the new roses and the beautiful colors you chose in bloom. Can't get me enough of Brenna. God Bless.

I don’t know if you have seen them, but Brother Cadfael (pronounced Cad-file) is a character from a book series by Ellis Peters. He is a Benedictine monk who uses his skills as a gardener and herbalist to solve mysteries in 12th century England. It was also an excellent TV series starring Derek Jacoby that ran on PBS for a number of seasons. Coincidentally, there is even an episode called “The Rose Rent”. 😊🌹

This was right on time for information on the David Austin Roses. I just ordered mine last weekend "Gabriel Oak". I had such a very hard time choosing my first one and this surely will not be my last. This one reminded me of being at my grandmother house. I will put this one in a very large container and will more than likely be buying a quite a few more soon to strategically place in my landscaping So so happy! Oh, and your home and the view(back drop of trees) is absolutely stunning, just stunning!

Hahahaha you got me laughing so hard when you mixed up susan and poets wife! I was so confused i knew something went wrong there! Much nicer to have a white transition between colors! You’re a hoot 😆

Love this because I’m about to transplant some climbers that I popped in a couple of pots last year!!!
Def need bio guard and the fungicide stuff!!! I’ve put it off because I need loads of compost … my old beds r wallowed out etc!
    Hugs from Texas

Thank you for not cutting out the part where you realize that the wrong rose is planted. I was wondering if you were just mistaking the name and not actually the rose. Lol, good to know that kind of mishap happens to experienced gardeners as well, and that's ok, no big deal. Just dig it up and keep going. Nice work Jenny, it will be beautiful.
