0:00 Why The Ending Of Top Gun Maverick is PERFECT
1:10 Why Top Gun Maverick is So Good, What it does Differently, How it compares to other recent Requels Explained
    12:43 Competition and Outro
Ok so at this point Top Gun Maverick is most successful movie of the year.
It's something that I don't think anyone could've predicted and in a time when comic book movies dominate the landscape this has come out and completely knocked it out the park. It's easy to see why too. Though I didn't even really like the first film all that much I think this is by far one of the best movies of the year if not one of the best sequels of all time.
I've wanted to do a perfect scene video on it for a while but the movie is just packed with them to the point that I don't even think I could choose a specific one. Whether it's how they handle Ice-Man, the scene in which Maverick shows the run can be done to his students or the final mission itself, it's all laid out to feel like some of the best cinema that we've ever seen and it definitely deserves all the praise it's getting.
Now throughout this video I wanna talk about why I love the movie so much, what it does differently to other requels and also why it offers not only commentary on those but also the state of Hollywood in general.
There's very much a style to how modern reboots tend to work and in a lot of cases they take an established character from an old franchise, show they aint s**t, have the new guys come in and pull them back so that they can sacrifice themselves so a new franchise can start with lesser versions at the helm.
There's very much been this feeling in the fan community that a lot of what Hollywood does at the moment is that it destroys the legacy characters in favour of propping up the newer ones which can be seen across a number of movies.
The Last Jedi is a good example of this in that it takes the idea of Luke and the Jedi, deconstructs what this means and shows the flaws in the heroes that we grew up with. It then replaces them with the new generation and I know a lot of criticism about this technique in Hollywood is that it drops the ball with the characters that we love. I actually think The Last Jedi is alright but even Mark Hammill seemed a bit disappointed with how Luke went out and it's important to note that Top Gun Maverick does the opposite.
It very much gives us the idea that just because someone is old, it doesn't mean that they're obsolete and this is exemplified in Maverick who constantly shows the new generation that they can learn from him. It's a very important motif that is laced throughout the film at several points.

My father had late-stage COPD and AFIB and I was able to get him to see this movie in theaters with a burger, an ice-cold coke zero and some buttery popcorn a few weeks before he passed in June - he loved this movie big time, white knuckled it and laughed hard.
Yes, we sneak outside food into the theater. It is a tradition he taught me when I was 10, and in my thirties, I have no intention of ending this tradition during my lifetime.

The practical effects of this movie and cinematography are absolutely stunning. It's still the best movie I've seen this year. When people talk about the superhero fatigue, I think that comes from the cgi that surrounds it. You know those characters are on green screens and sets. There's so much authenticity from every character and action, while MCU is now stuck on trying catchphrases or extending IP.

Top Gun Maverick is an example of if you make a good movie, people will come to see it, some will see it over and over again. Tom Cruise was thought to be dead outside the Mission Impossible franchise, and the acting talent he displayed in TGM, especially that scene with Val Kilmer shows the rumors of his decline were greatly exaggerated.

I haven't enjoyed a cinema experience like this for as long as I can remember, probably since Gladiator (2000). It's renewed my faith that Hollywood can still make an action movie, sequel or not. How refreshing to see a film that isn't a comic book Mary-Sue-superhero green-screen CGI-shit-fest! It really shows on screen that it was made by a passionate film-maker, rather than some studio accountant working to a corporate algorithm with no respect for the source material, vomiting out a cynical low effort cash-grab, banking on the nostalgia of a long established fan base.

This movie was perfect! Tom was right about waiting to release the movie in theaters. It's a completely different experience instead of a streaming service at home. 2 days ago I went to the theater to watch Rogue one again, which I had just found out about it, and what I call tell about it? : WOW! I've seen Rogue One 3 times when it first came out and later many other times but this time was special. It brought me that nostalgic feeling about being in theaters and sharing the audience's reaction to every scene, even knowing everything that is going to happen, it felt like the first time again. And of course I there is no comparison when we talk about the big screen and the sound in an IMAX.

In regards to Star Wars -"Deconstruct" is too nice of a word to describe what they(and we all know who we mean by "THEY") did to those original characters and their stories.

Totally agree with you on the tactile nature of the film being a major reason it works, and resonates, so well. Probably why Everything Everywhere All At Once also a hit. Definitely much more tactile (even if they did use a lot of cgi). Also why The Northman is my favorite film of the year so far.

I still subscribe to the theory Maverick died during the hypersonic test flight and the rest of the movie his soul was trapped in a Purgatory where he revisits everything from his past, Top Gun, Iceman, his old flame Penny, and resolves his guilt over Gooses death by patching things up with a purgatory version of Rooster.

This movie was so damn good. I was not expecting it to be aa good as it was. Like it was an incredible experience. It's all about living up to who you could be. The heroes win and no one has to sacrifice. They save eachother. And it's all about being there for one another. Just made me feel good. I felt good watching it

Man this sucks I haven't seen the movie yet I wish my dad was still alive. We used to go to air shows together they had to stop when he was diagnosed with diabetes but I kept on going I learned a lot from my father even though I didn't know him as well. That was the one thing he would do growing up take me to the air shows it would have been nice to take him to see it if he was still alive especially in IMAX but I have my mother and as soon as it comes out I am getting I don't care if I have to rent it for 20 bucks or buy it for 20 bucks I'm going to watch the movie that is as old as I am with my parents. I appreciate you making this video because it makes me want to watch the movie a little bit more and thank you for the videos you make. I appreciate the time and effort you put in your videos for us to watch and you do a really good job.

The movie is truly perfect but people complain oh the dialogue was light the character development was thin.... Here is the thing the perfect movie is about balance it's like going to a buffet and you have to have equal parts of everything and its all just enough to balance everything out. We all seen movies with a ton of great dialogue and a ton of character development but if there is no tension or there is no struggles the movie still doesn't develop and go anywhere. This movie gives you just enough to keep things moving but not too much in any single aspect. Truly such a magnificent perfect movie.
