/* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
What’s poppin, my Zillas? It’s me MT and welcome back to the Heavy Spoilers show! And Heavy Spoilers ahead because this is about to be a breakdown of Godzilla Minus One! A multi-million dollar masterpiece of a moving monster movie that’s all about the value of fighting for the future. Because what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. Let’s get into it!
Godzilla Minus One was released publicly in Japan on November 3, 2023 and was directed AND written by Takashi Yamazaki. With a team of 35 phenomenally talented VFX artists, Yamazaki was able to use a string of incredibly creative filming techniques to rake in a crazy 115.8 million worldwide on an estimated budget of $10-12 million dollars…with 8 months of VFX work making up 25-33% of that relatively modest budget.
The name “Minus One” was chosen by Yamazaki to reflect the status of Japan after being attack by back to back national tragedies. First with their losses in World War II, which set the Country to Zero…then with Godzilla kicking Japan while they were already down and at empty…setting Japan to a symbolic “Minus One” - บันเทิง
Huge thank you for checking out the video. Keep an eye out for our Godzilla X Kong breakdown coming soon.
MT NEEDS HIS OWN MERCHANDISE NOW
If he doesn't get his own merch I'll unsubscribe now I'm kidding I can't unsubscribe ...ummm.....i won't mow my lawn
Cool I will keep an eye out for your gorilla × Kong Break😁 down
The director and writer, Takashi Yamazaki confirmed that Noriko's survival is from the same phenomenon that allows Godzilla to regenerate. The black mark seen on her neck are Godzilla's cells. This interview was back in April during Godzilla Fest in Osaka if anyone wants the details.
Yep. Which would explain how she survived.
Was wondering what that was about, I just assumed she had radiation poisoning
what doesn't kill you, kills you later
😂😂
😂
😂
-It’s probably nuclear radiation that even though she survived the “blast” the radioactivity will do her in given the time.
@@angelzaragoza9952 bruh u ruined the chain
The reason it HAD to be Tachibana was because he was the only engineer that would have supported Shikishima's kamikaze plan without spilling it to the rest of his compatriots.
if there is one thing i learned from this movie, is that noriko was def a keeper frfr.
This is easily my favorite Godzilla movie and should have won more Oscars.
They did win an Oscar... For visual effects
@@DanielLeealhe said “more” bro
Another note is that we cannot really know if Shikishima "volunteered" to be a kamikaze. Kamikazes were more heavily used as a desperation attempt once they began losing the war (some exceptions), but once they ran out the enthusiastic volunteers, they began using coercion, shame, etc to get pilots to become kamikazes. I think it is more likely that Shikishima was coerced due to the fact that his mission is towards end of the war, and he obviously was not enthusiastic about the mission considering he opted out.
Exactly the comment I was looking for. Not all kamikaze pilots were willful volunteers, many were coerced into it.
Didn't Shikishima said to his parents that he did what they told him to do, "to live"?
This is what the reviewers forget to mention. Shikishima is actually not a chicken or a coward. He just received the letter from his parents to live and he decided to value his life only to find out that his parents died because of the bombings.
The irony of that is he is supposed to be the one to have a suicide mission to stop the air raids of US forces bombing Tokyo. So knowing that he failed his mission just to find out that his parents died because of his decision to live is so heavy for him that he almost want to die.
We see shikishima pull out a letter that tells him to come back alive. And his parents must have known he was a kamikaze because his neighbor (sumiko) knew he was. But how he ended up being a kamikaze, we don’t really know for certain. All I can say is him opting out of the mission can possibly be because of his parents wishes, but the movie does show him shaking with fear when he lands his plane and when trying to go up against pre-bomb Godzilla. So it is quite possible shikishima and his parents didn’t want him to go through a suicide attack and he “agreed” through possible coercion. For the other comment, I think it is unlikely his mission had anything to do with the Tokyo air raids because those happened in March, and the end of ww2 was September. The movie begins with shikishima leaving is mission at the final days of ww2. So I don’t think this was in March of 1945. I think when sumiko blamed him for the destruction of her home and Tokyo, I don’t think she meant literally thought he was meant to stop the Tokyo air raids, she just meant the losses all of Japan had suffered due to “cowards” like him (her words). Even if she did mean it literally, I can’t imagine she would be privy to the knowledge of which mission he was or wasn’t on, just that he became a kamikaze pilot. So I really don’t think he was tasked to help with the Tokyo air raids.
Yeah, I have no reason to think Shikishima chose to be a kamikaze pilot.
I think the black mark is a set up for the sequel. They'll have to figure out how to stop G's regeneration and use Noriko to do it. Maybe they won't have the technology for that yet and the sequel takes place decades later.
my bet is Noriko becomes the woman component of Biollante Minus One or something
You are probably correct, as the director had confirmed in an interview, these are G Cells, like those in the 1989 film, Godzilla vs Biollante, which later leads to Spacegodzila.
I believe, and hope, the sequels will be a kinda "Half-Century War" thing, making it very personal for that family.
It could move into & end at the end of the Cold War. As a direct reference to the style & tone of the 80s movies, which would fit this new continuity.
The black spots spreading might be G Cells, yes, sucking people dry, killing them, regenerating Big G.
But I also think this could have something to do with Biolante.
Like it spreads, the government sees this as an epidemic & separates the infected from the rest in a camp, and there they all die, because it grows outside of them, combining them in a big bio-plant-ish nightmare, forming Biolante, still kinda connected to Big G.
This way new Kaijus get born, by infecting people & individual mutation creating new lifeforms.
Gay.
Let this be stand alone.
No need to be like the legendary Godzilla.
@@Vin-fu1rm I'm not saying they should or should not, just confirming the assumption
I like the idea of Godzillas back spikes being like Control rods in a reactor and when they pop out, he can do his blast.
I loved it because it was a beautiful story about post-WWII Japan. I especially liked how it showed the perspective of the soldiers and "common" citizens and how they felt about the war and the fighting.
Oh, and there's a Godzilla.
I think that’s my favorite aspect of the film. It’s a love letter and tribute to the soldiers that returned home after the war. High drama with amazing character work. I wish the American films had characters to really fall in love with.
I was barely awake and thought to myself
"Thats a weird hair spot"
I see Minus One Breakdown, I click.
I hear MT, I turn volume up.
lol
Haha let’s go
LIES
I love MTs breakdowns
The big MT? 👁️ 👄 👁️
The plane he flies at the end was amazing, too. By chance, I'd just read about it shortly before seeing film and it was so cool. Only a few prototypes were made and while never perfected for all the different uses they wanted, it was the pinnacle of their war tech.
I like the fact that minus one Godzilla is smaller it opens the door for more adventure and monsters species . cause when their big like in legendary it's only so much space for all these titians to live and explore
Glad Paul finally seen it, it's awesome to see Godzilla just wreck shit like a big baddie
24:56 nope that's Godzilla cells on her neck. Takashi yamazaki confirmed this
how would she get godzillas cells in her ?? she never even touched godzilla
@@pralayaryan could be caused by the blast. The radiation. I just finished watching the black mark scene, which is why I am here right now.
@Eightinnergatesopen but wouldn't shikashima also have it sense he was there
@@jesiahratliff8034 you’d think he’d have something considering he was in, relatively, close proximity to Godzilla 3x I’m the film.
@@mod7065 I'm the film?
nice to have it out on Netflix in the US as of yesterday! i wasn't expecting it to be available until the end of the year, from rumors i'd read
"And pissing their collective pants..." Yep, I lost it out loud.
Can we get more Heavy Spoilers like this! This felt like I was in the office and that coworker was trying to sell the movie to me. Now I gotta see this shit!
What a fantastic analysis by MT. I totally missed the black mark at the end, and the explanation given here makes a lot of sense. Plus everything being said as godzilla being the "personification" of Japan's fears and the emotional value it contains for the Japanese nation give it even more weight to an already amazing script. I also loved how the Japanese learned to value the life of their citizens over their victories and defeats. Gj you guys
Awesome MT, solid breakdown.
LOVE your recaps! Thanks!
“Go eat some shiki shit” is krazy 😂😂😂
I feel rhrownnnn
Great breakdown. I love MT’s adlibs
MT, I fucking love you. You’re hilarious 😂
Great break down but your humor is so rich lol
The finest Godzilla movie that I have watched. Perhaps the finest movie that I have watched. Living on Kauai, where we have only one movie theater, and it was not booked, I was not able to watch it until Netflix. Never have I wanted Godzilla so very dead. I cared very much about the people and their plight. As stated below, the movie should have garnered additional Oscars.
There used to be a theater in Kekaha a long time ago. I saw so many movies there - Jaws, Close Encounters, Rollerball, The Exorcist, (I watched Star Wars in Honolulu though) and lots of Filipino movies (I'm half Filipino). I think tickets were like 75 cents or something. Right across the street from Kuramoto General Store. Good times.
I like how when I finally got to go see this movie I bought a ticket for Godzilla Minus One in Color and the movie was still in black and white. I wanna see this movie in color, damn it
Everybody I've spoken to who has seen it in both formats has said B&W is FAR superior.
It's in color on Netflix
It's about time. Thank you! Loved this Godzilla Film. Amazing!
Now do Killers of the Flowermoon
Great stuff, I liked all the details and Easter Eggs
great breakdown!!!
This was a great review of a great movie! The scene on Odo Island was the most terrifying for me cuz Godzilla was smaller and his murder of the mechanics was much more intentional and personal. Half the people he stepped on at Ginza, he didn't even know they were there.
As a Titan-sized Godzilla fan and longtime Heavy Spoilers subscriber, I am happy to see such an epic crossover! Can't go wrong with MT, either. Godzilla Minus One has had a profound experience on many people. I love this film because of the relatable characters. Their goals, actions, and personalities are inspiring to watch repeatedly. This film has mastered the art of juxtaposition. In Japanese culture, Dead Sea Fish represents someone who's given up on life. It not only reflects Shikishima's depression and fears, it heralds Godzilla's purpose in this film as being anti-life, which, arguably, is the true secret antagonist of this film, as anti-life overshadows even Godzilla (who is fighting to survive like the rest of us). Looking up at the mushroom cloud he caused in Ginza suggests this, with the mushroom cloud being Death, which Godzilla has cheated twice now.
Director Takashi Yamazaki has confirmed that Noriko's Black Mark indicates Godzilla Cells are in her body. What this means for the future of Noriko and Japan remains to be seen.
This Godzilla movie is a pure masterpiece your breakdown of this Godzilla movie is beyond hilarious.
Man I'm glad M.T is here doing reviews. I missed his style when I stopped watching new rockstars
Your take on this was really hilarious!
My man MT getting the feature length videos!
Bro.. MT.. Your commentary is hilarious yo! 😂 always look forward to your commentary, always dope and funny 💯💯💯
MT, good to see you!!!! ❤❤❤
I love this movie so much😭
"Too much dip on yo chip" 😂😂😂 I loved this review
this was great :D
Awesome JOB MTzilla
Thanks!
Love Paul & M.T.
Love that u guys are finally giving this movie its love and appreciation that it deserves. I saw it in theater & I was blow away 😉
The Bikini Atol tests also created Sponge Bob Square Pants
Great 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
“Atomic Reptar” im dead hahahaha
Even though the subject matter is somber, this was one of your funniest videos ever. Your comedy is on point.
Why do I get the feeling that Noriko is somehow related to mothra. Which is how and why she lived and she survived. Yeah a piece of Godzilla could’ve fallen into the water and got into her body, but what if she is hiding something. And that the baby they take care of is basically her twin who had died in the bombing and came back as a baby? And that Noriko is destined to take care of her like a mother each time something like happens. Like one dies, turns into a baby, the other lives and takes care of her while when the baby gets older, they do some ritual or something and that summons mothra to fight Godzilla.
Great review
I really liked how you put your own twist on it. Great movie. One of my favorite Godzilla movies. NVM, it's my favorite.
I'm not gonna lie. I didn't notice the black stuff on her neck when i watched it. Thanks, MT!
3:17 don't know the facts on this, but i've wondered if kamikaze piloting was a volunteer effort or if it was conscripted work.
Volunteer, the pilots believed it was a great honor to die for their country. And it would bring shame to their families if they “survived”. The emperor would go to airbases and tell the pilots how it would be great to die for Japan
What Esem said. Japan was big on saying it's honorable to die for your country, Japan has a huge culture based on honor.
A bit of both. In the beginning it was volenteering. but towards the end of the war. there where gangs running around pressing people to join or to volenteer. Especially among pilotes to "Volenteer or bring dishonour to their family".
Not the "propellordominter and the areola!" 😂😂😂
MT, you are amazing dude. Do much work must go into these breakdowns. Great stuff from the spoilers team.
That woman with the black mark is gonna turn her into a kaiju
Biollante perhaps? That would be f&%$ing phenomenal!
27:44 This is why they saluted Godzilla at the end
Don’t mess with us Godzilla fans, we cant agree on anything
Awesome review!! Not only was I entertained 😂😂😂 I FINALLY got answers to some questions I had that I couldn’t get in other deep dives of this movie. An amazing movie I highly recommend & I don’t even like Godzilla movies 😊
Our man MT and our boy GZ!
One thing that most of the reviewers forget to mention is Shikishima decided to not offer his life for a suicide mission because he received a letter from his parents to live and return alive however the tragic part of it is his parents died because of the bombing of Tokyo.
Now he was forced to live alone with only the guilt he carry after the war.
MT is the best. Great breakdown. Great film.
One of the best movies I have ever watched
Was Godzilla already "atomic" on the island? Would the 20mm gun have stopped him here?
Yes he was and no the guns would not have killed him you can literally see how he had armored scales a tank would kill him though
I really gotta see this. Love Godzilla.😊
Excuse me I'm going to Delete new rockstars from my Search History😂😅
Was not expecting this level of hilarity bravo
Best commentary ever! 😂❤
Hilarious bro. Great breakdown for a great movie
Have been waiting for thr MT breakdown. Knew he'd spot things the rest didn't.
Omg I'm 15 minutes in and this is the best review ever
These are the type of reviews I like lmao
Is it such a great movie. Godzilla back to being a menace destroying everything that's near
Still waiting for a digital release of the movie in the US why is taking so long 😢
Fins popping out similar to removing control rods to let the atomic reaction to accelerate to charge that atomic breath.
Bro you hilarious 😂😂
19:45 "So needless to say, Shikishima is feeling like Shikishit right now." Bruh, that had me cryin an dyin of laughter!😂🤣😭☠
i think a gojira minus 2 or something would be about nuclear poisoning and trying to find a cure, kind of like a countdown movie
I need more serious movies recapped by MT like this 🤣🤣 makes it feel way less foreboding and I’m here for it
Still waiting for the film to be available to stream in the UK

what if.. the mark is not only connected to godzilla and his flesh being discovered near the blast zone, but also the Radiation that would've been absorbed by Shikishima during his suicide raid on godzilla, how many others would've died after all that released radiation at the end of the film. maybe her body is absorbing that radiation and will potentially cause her to mutate.
Man if only the majority of people can buy this movie (Toho release the movie out side of Japan please I beg of you)
This is my favorite movie! I’m looking forward to the sequel 🙏😀!
You had me at “it’s me, MT”. MT could do a breakdown of The Mask 2 and I would watch it. ✅✅✅👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Operation Crossroads is completely different from the atomic test that was referenced in Godzilla (Gojira) 1954. The 1954 movie was referencing the Castle Bravo thermonuclear weapon test on Bikini Atoll on March 1, 1954, which lead to the Lucky Dragon 5 incident, which inspired the film. My understanding is that the Castle Bravo test detonated a hydrogen bomb while Crossroads detonated the plutonium implosion bomb similar to the bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
Godzilla Minus one moves kinda similar to the Green Ranger Zord. It was probably based off Godzilla. Especially since Godzilla came first.
Koichi really is a reliable guy.
I didn’t know MT was on Heavy Spoilers! Hell yeah, glad to see this guy after NR
😂 very entertaining MT
Too much Dip on your chip. lol. That was a great breakdown MT.
how does godzilla stand in the middle of the ocean?
Same way u “stand” in the middle of a pool
This movie made me want a follow up to Oppenheimer that shows the two cities aftermath.
I’m gonna need MT to narrate all of minus one after watching this he was hilarious 😂
MT whats good my brother! Paul my name is Paul but same complexion as MT 😭😭💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿 i fuuux with channel forreal forreal !!
Any idea how we can watch this in the United States? Looks like it’s not available to own digitally.
Sorry I'm two weeks too late, but it's on Netflix right now, I've watched it twice already!
Someone ask Toho when I can get a copy of that Blu Ray set they put out in Japan over here in the US. Cause I need it. It got robbed at the Oscars. It should have gotten best picture , director, everything.
“Those people baked to death… anyways…” bruh
Takao Tuesday is now how I will refer to it forever more.
It makes it more badass!
"You're supposed to die anyway, right?" 😂😂
It could also, for the first time, be an actual explanation for why Godzilla grows to become more of a protector. By using the strength of people who continue to fight on to survive for family, themselves, or their friends and country, that could start to affect Godzilla to become more of a neutral/protective force.
Lmfao I love the narration
I strongly believe they are going the Shin Godzilla route and anyone affected by Godzilla’s radiation will be called by him to help him regenerat. Much like the ending of shin gozilla shows the humanoid forms at the end of his tail and how his dorsal fins are made of bones.
