    Man, I totally get the hype around tech gadgets like the Remarkable Pro. They look sleek and give you that temporary boost of excitement, like you just unlocked a productivity cheat code. But let’s be real, it’s just another form of procrastination. We tell ourselves this new tool will make us more productive, but after a month, it’s just another thing we get used to-classic hedonic treadmill. At the end of the day, it’s not the $600 device that’s going to do the work for us, it’s just putting in the time. Gotta resist the mental trap!

      The price point is way too high, hopefully another company comes along with great quality and can do it for half the price. It's something I've actually been wanting because I do sketch ideas and models but currently what I use is something basically for kids where you can do sketches but not erase with a pen or save it. If I write on paper, I'm likely to have a tougher time keeping track of everything. Especially, if I sketch something one day, and want to make changes, I need a new sheet of paper. I have to make the changes then transcribe everything I still want to keep from the original.

      I mean if you're constantly taking notes with the traditional pen and paper anyways, I think this is actually quite useful and much more convenient. I hate using physical pen and paper and always do everything digitally if I can, but some stuff is just better with a pen.
      Although I'm not paying $1000 for this gadget, it's ridiculous. Maybe like $300

    Bought the Paper Pro this morning. I’ve been using the RM2 every day for three years. I love it! I used paper journals before. The switch to remarkable was a good experience. The game changer for me with the Paper Pro is the front light. My older eyes need the extra light. This feature alone made the upgrade worth it.

    The reMarkable is not for anyone who loves the distraction of modern apps. But for those who prefer completely distraction-free writing, it's a bloody beast of a productivity tool. Using the reMarkable 2 currently. Tempted to order the reMarkable Pro - as my pet peeve to date has been the lack of direct colour writing. It's a cool product and guess it was only time they upgraded to soemething like this. Sure a worthy upgrade.

      Yeah, Remarkable company doesn't make too good of decisions, sometimes. The specs for the Remarkable 2 should have been better. I bought it and was unimpressed, sadly.
      I returned it over Christmas 2023, because I wanted to treat myself. But, when I was reading PDF's, the page turning was so slow. Maybe, I didn't set it up right, don't know.

    • @garden-salsa
      @garden-salsa หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@PoeLemic Page turns are slow if the pdf size is big. It also takes long to render the pages. But main thing that put me away was the lack of front light in RM2. There were many occasions where I wanted to read at night but if I have to keep my lights on.. that's why I barely use it now. During the day I don't get much time. The paper pro has good enough reason as it has front light and color is an added bonus but the price alone is a heavy deterrent. The complete package is around $1K 💀

    • @JackDespero
      @JackDespero หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@PoeLemic That is the price to pay for e-ink. Unlike led displays, here you need to physically move particles up and down. It has exactly the same feeling as all the other e ink displays.
      I bought this one because I love my RM 2, and because there is a 100 return policy, apparently, so if I don't like it, I will return it.
      As for your concern, they say that they have almost halved the latency, so maybe pdfs are read faster. I don't know, it will arrive in 2 weeks, apparently.

    I preordered my ReMarkable 2 when it started out with a lot of bugs, some of which rendered the device almost unusable. However ReMarkable refined the RM2 into a nice writing device. What I missed was a screen light since I use my devices in relatively poor lighting. A book light worked for reading, but was not practical for writing as my hand would make terrible shadows. I gradually migrated to a Kindle Scribe which is a more basic writing device but ticked off all the boxes I needed. The Kindle screen is beautifully lit and higher in resolution than the RM2. I really loved how the RM2 worked but gradually migrated away because of its screen. The Kindle also has folders, but no PDFs or anything besides written documents, written on basic templates can be put in folders. I use a lot of color charts in my work which steers me my Mac or iPad. I am excited about this new ReMarkable device for its promise to solve all my deficiencies with writing devices in one swoop. I hear it can only write in 9 colors, but display a full spectrum of colors for ePubs and PDF files. Thats good enough for me.

    Just ordered the Pro with accessories - $900. The new e-ink writing devices have always been a luxury had at a high cost when compared to tablets such as the iPad. The comparison to writing on paper is funny. Why not just buy a pad of paper and a pen or pencil and scan what you want to keep? I keep buying this stuff because I am a bit unbalanced to tell you the truth. That said, the Remarkable people listened to their customers. The new Pro has added many of the most requested features, including a front lighting system. So, I am on board for another round. If you are a first time user, I would go for the Pro and not the RM2 unless you can find a great deal on a used one to see if you like it. There is nothing more expensive than duplicating what you have in hand. That is what I do and you do not want to copy that. If you are a note taker for either business or personal use, an E-ink note taker helps get the work done and maintains a certain amount of order in your life. I may still have to search for a note, but at least I do not lose them, as I did with notes written on scraps of paper. Of course, if you already own an all purpose tablet, such as an iPad, you may not need one of these at all. Just buy an Apple Pencil and use the included Apple Note system. By the way, if you are an artist, I can’t help you as I cannot draw worth a lick.

    Hey, thanks first of all for the absolutely great video of yours!
    I would love to get a glimpse on the visibility and sharpness of the Remarkable Paper Pro when it comes to *sheet music* .
    Ok, some context: I am a choir singer and have been thinking about the switch to digital paper (iPad? Remarkable?) for quite a while now and what I have noticed during my research: Nobody on TH-cam is talking about this use case for this new and bigger Remarkable, but it's perfect in my view for musicians, because the bigger screen size brings it closer to A4 paper dimensions, also the e-ink screen is not as hard on the eyes and more readable in almost every lighting condition. You can take notes in the sheet and also don't need to worry about distraction through other (social media) apps as well as a short battery life as on the iPad.
    The only dealbreaker is: Are 229 ppi sharp enough for displaying notes accurately enough so that it is readable in the end? If you would test it out in a separate video, you could maybe partner up with some musician TH-camr, that maybe already uses an iPad or something tablet-like. Does that sound like a TH-cam niche that would be covered by you first? I would love to have at least some camera close-ups of the notes on the e-ink display combined with your opinion on readability :) That would be absolutely fantastic!
    Have a great day and thanks in advance :)

    It looks an amazing premium device...but a year ago went for the boox colour, simply because what i wanted was the additional ability to have email accounts, google drive account, and those abilities to be able to send something either via email or to drive and pick it up there has been very helpful! For instance, i utilise a pdf digital planner, and once a month just can upload a copy to the drive account, and then on my phone, laptop or other tablet i can open it and look at it there, including any of the journals and notes you make are updated there so its a very different use case, but this remarkable looks good! Having colour e ink is underrated...its important to be able to write in different colours! So nice that its come to Remarkable. However again for me this profile is too big for me to carry around...its that sweet spot between good writing screen real estate vs moving around with it.

I basically only want a suped-up notepad. I don't want Kindle on it... I want to use it for work. This sounds ideal for my use case. Yes, the cost was something I took into serious consideration. But, I expect this to be quality hardware for long-term use. I'll return it in a flash if its poor quality and the new pen tech turns out an issue for me... like the real possibility of misplacing or losing the only pen that works on the tablet. I don't know how I feel about the pro, 99% of it I love, but there are just some features that I'm REALLY not happy with! The RM2 is really the largest size I want to carry around with me when I'm away from home, but I could still manage with the pro if I had to. I REALLY HATE how the pen is rechargeable (I've got enough devices with battery levels I need to keep track of!) and the fact that it can only be charged by the pro is deeply concerning if that connection gets damaged somehow! I'm also not a fan of how the colour flashes every time you use it.
    I'd mostly be using black text (unless reading a graphic novel), but I'm neurodivergent and the very distracting flashing is not only an issue for my concentration, but could add to me getting sensory overload! Also one reviewer said that it can leave a bit of a yellow ghosting affect when you erase something before it refreshes the page (which I'm okay with, with the RM2, but I think the grey wouldn't stand out as much). But then again I have really been wanting colour with my RM2, because I'm finding the highlighters on it just don't look different enough to everything else I'm doing, to draw my eye to important stuff!
    I think I'm going to see what the new Supernote is like, and then make a decision. I'm not as happy with all of this as I was hoping to be, but I'm also not quite unhappy enough to dismiss it entirely.

    I would love to have a program like yours that I can set tasks (and notifications, I assume it has alarms or notifications) on a product like the reMarkable for doing sales. I hate taking my phone out in front of a customer to set a reminder to do something for them because it looks and feels very impersonal where as busting out a notepad and righting it down just feels more focused on the customer for some reason so I thought the reMarkable or a similar product would be perfect but turns out none of them had a software where I could hand write a note on a page and then just long press on it to set a reminder or have it send me a email at a certain time which would be perfect. I'm sure I wouldn't be the only person that would love to be able to use the devices in this way as it combines the convenience and personal touch of a notepad with the obvious advantages of a digital planer on your phone.

    As wonderful and attractive as the new Paper Pro is, THE #1 reason to choose Supernote over the Remarkable is the ability of the former to store important files on an OTG thumb drive via the USB-C port! Many people work with highly confidential files, and quite often companies and agencies will simply NOT allow files to be uploaded into cloud servers under threat of employment termination. The Supernote allows you to stay completely offline and to save your files securely onto the OTG thumb drive. It doesn't get any more convenient than that.

      Same! Not in a rush because I have the rM2 and Supernote. Funny since the announcement my Supernote has been acting up and freezing 🥶. I have always loved my rM2 since getting it back in 2020 during pre-order. I thought I would use the functionality of the SN more but have found I really don’t and gravitate back no matter how hard I try, enjoy the pens 🖊️ of SN back to my reMarkable. It just works so well for me and outside of hyperlinks 🔗 I’m ok with my rM2. I don’t really use that function or the to-do list on SN like I thought I would.

Don't you think something like the Asus or surface pro is the one best device - pull the keyboard off for a tablet experience but you can code and do the full ow tasks too all in one device. So far, I am very happy with the RMP. Regarding eBooks on Kindle, if you own a kindle and have a valid serial number, you can remove the DRM and put your entire kindle library on your Remarkable Paper Pro with Calibre software and DeDRM plug ins.
      Reading comics is nice, and the screen refresh is not as jarring as I thought it would be. Haven't messed around with the colors yet, but the syncing seems to work a lot better than my experience with the RM2.

    Great video, as always. That CPU bump is the biggest deal to me. The dual core in the RM2 is ancient. It's Cortex A9, which is 15 year old tech at this point (think first gen smartphone-era). Now it's using 2x the core count at nearly double the speed an using Cortex A53 cores. This CPU should be 8-10x more powerful than RM. This should allow for things like auto-shape creation that I've been dying for in the RM2, but they haven't implemented simply because there's not enough CPU power for that.
