@BlackHeartModer , When Gunbroker starts requiring that all guns bought and sold there have to be shipped through me, with one day's delay, I'll be able to provide a video on anything anybody desires! :-)
Had a Sig Sauer SP2022 and liked it but when I held this 9mm , it was “ game over”. Gun dealership said there was a sale on H&K P30 with a $300 price drop on the wholesale end. Picked it up for $619.00! This gun is sweet and the quality is unsurpassed. And accurate. No disappointment.
I love it how you never cut and copy your tape - makes the review that much better! Means your shooting is your shooting - no edits etc.. its annoying how some people put in 'the best bits' when, realistically, people miss sometimes!!
Oh man, love that you finally reviewed the one gun I own (as a European). Can't wait to see the sequel videos! Anyway: here is something you might not know: if you reload and slap the mag in hard enough, the gun will load on its own. Its a neat party trick and yeah: it's supposed to do that! Save some time when you're under fire! It's 100% save.
The p30 is by far the best gun I have shot. I own a p30s in .40s&w. The first 100-150 rounds made me worry because of the snappiness of the 40 but now I blow all my friends away at shooting. Love mine so much I'm going to get the P30L in 40 soon.
I think it's important to note that this gun has multiple variants and the HK P30S is one of the few guns that allows you to carry cocked and locked like a 1911 and thus effectively get used as a single action only gun rather than a DA/SA system. This gun is about options and it has them in spades. The switch from DA to SA is one thing Hickock45 complains about but that switch can be avoided on the P30S or LEM/DAO variants.
The gun is dumbed down when it comes to the handling. Law enforcement type of gun.... nough said. Could have been so much greater of a gun. Mag release in the trigger guard....come on HK. I love you but this is just laughable

Just fired one of these for the first time as a new shooter. I was surprised how heavy the trigger was compared to other pistols I’ve shot. It was my first HK and by the time I was finished with it it had grown in me a LOT. I’ll be back to the range at the end of this month to try out some more of HK’s products. Aesthetically pleasing and easy to handle.

@tfre3927, Could be because I couldn't improve on it anyway! :-) Now that we're in HD, we do have to have an edit point occasionally in order to put the video in two different video files. The cameras pretty much demand that. You'll see that occasionally now in videos longer than 15 or so minutes.
+EpicDisclosure Hello from Oklahoma! I visited your country several years ago while I was in the Navy. I went to Bergen. What a great country you have! I just bought one of these today. the P30L v3. Great gun so far!
@ThePlatonicRomance, That would probably be preferable, except I'd prefer the trigger break further forward, as like a 1911, at least in my large hand.

@malikeight , It's intended to be used with the right hand? That's a bit awkward, even though it's not hard for me with my large hands. Your message is not very clear, but I'd say it's just a fact that most people who can afford either H&Ks OR Glocks, choose Glocks. I could have every H&K in their line-up, but instead I have Glocks. Price is irrelevant to me in a pistol choice; I just want the most reliable, shootable, size-efficient, gun I can find.

My thinking is that the decocker is located there to decock before re-holstering. You break your grip anyways to holster and it is in a convenient location for that.
This model also has an LEM trigger varient. It's a very unique trigger system. Would LOVE to see you run that platform and hear your feedback as it's the same trigger every time.

LEM triggers are great in this gun. You would be pleasantly surprised with the feel HK is my favorite gun company and the USP and all of its variants are great shooters. The p2000sk is my favorite carry gun they make.
I had a Walther P99 with similar mag release. I found it to be easier to use my triggerfinger to push the release. But i prefer the standard release that is on f.eks Glock or 1911 pistols.
Just put 60 rounds through newly purchased P30. Love it. A sweet shooter for sure. Among my dozen or so handguns I have six Gen 4 Glocks I also love but the P30 is special.
Just got my HK P30L in and so far im in absolute Love with it. I dont mind a DA/SA pistol as I've owned CZs in the past and im planning on going to the range asap. Love Glocks and Sigs but I've been wanting to create an HK collection and this beauty is kicking it off.
I LOVE H&K's so much that I have a USP in 9mm, .40, and .45! Looking for a P30 but the prices on these have sky rocketed!!!! Really enjoy all your videos!!!
when watching these hickok45 videos --- I am very impressed with semi-autos that eject their brass (or other) at a consistent angle. Gives me a lot of confidence in the feeding/ejecting ability. this P30 looks like it could put all of the spent shells in a pile if he were using like a bench rest. Thanks hickok45! good to go.
of course you can do that. i work at hk we do these tests with the guns, especially because we offer them to millitary forces and to special units of the police. we also offer a special kit that includes a holster and a cable gun holder, in cobination of those two its impossible that you drop it.
I love that I can watch the rounds arch and hit downrange and then bounce around. Gives you a sense of the distance when the round slows enough that you can watch it. Lol nice shooting.
Traded my PPQ for a P30 and I'm pleased with the deal. The trigger is not bad at all, as people say. It's very smooth and not as heavy pull as my Sig P226. It's a sweet sweet shooter as Hickok would say!
Does the trigger have a ramp up near the break point? My HK45 does that, and I really like it. The experts say that the break is supposed to come as a surprise, but I like that feedback letting you know when you are about to break. Like learning the clutch on a stick shift in a car.
Years later, but watched because. (you might guess). Appreciate everything you do. Have to get back to watching the Sunday Shoot a Rounds. Best to you and all of us as things unravel.
@EverythingisFire You can trust the decocker. I have never heard of one failing, not H&K, nor any other manufacturer either. In addition to the decocker safely lowering the hammer, there's a firing pin block that obstructs the pin from going forward unless the trigger is pulled back. That means the decocker and firing pin block would have to malfunction for it to possibly discharge. It's good practice to keep it pointed it in a safe direction when you do decock, just to "feel" completely safe.
Hello Hickok45: First of all: Once again a truly great video of yours!Always a pleasure to watch. I own several H6Ks like the Expert in 45 with the 9 mm changing system and the P 30L with the longer barrel. Their slightly better concerning accuracy than the Glock 17 I also own. The Glock has a longer life than the H&Ks, but I like both brands. The P 30 is a derivative of the P 2000, and this was build up from the USP. The factory is about 30 mls from here in the Black Forrest.
I have several H&K's and I've found that it's easiest for me to hit the mag release with the middle finger of my trigger hand. This let's me keep the gun on target while reloading. I can't hit the release with my thumb; my thumb just isn't long enough to reach it.
i agree 100% i use my middle finger as well, for it being a full size firearm, smaller handed people have a hard time using the trigger guard mag release with out having to reposition your grip every time. i love my p30s but its not very practical for concealed carry. it's a bit to big for that. im lookiing into either a glock 26 gen 4 or the springfield xds 9m for my personal carry gun.
Katie Huber both are good carry options. I myself often carry a glock 27. If you like the p30 though, you might take a look at the HK p2000sk as a carry option. This has been my primary EDC for 5 years and I couldn't be happier with it.
Erich Rahm I have yet to locate a P2000sk to get my hands on, but of the Glock and Springfield, I like the Glock's grip better. The Springfield seems to feel rather "edgey" or "blocky" in the grip but the Glock seems to fit a little better in my hand and with the reversible mag release I can get use the same technique I have with the p30, with the 26. i.e middle finger mag release. But if I could find the P2000sk I would certainly consider another piece of German perfection :) I would like to add a Glock to my collection though.
Katie Huber I picked my p2000sk up off of grabagun.com several years back. Since then, 3 of my friends have bought them after shooting mine. They're almost impossible to find in a store in order to hold one or shoot one though. I wish you luck.
Hi, I'm a lady and I have the HK VP 9. I love it, however it is too big for myself to carry. Have you shot the HK p30 SK? I'm interested in it for carry. Thank you.
Hi Mary, I have the HK P30sk and I am very happy with it. It is my edc pistol and I am amazed at just how well it shoots to be a sub-compact pistol. I also have the HK P30, both of mine are double/single with the safety, so the manual of arms is the same for them both. I do not find the weight (24oz) to be too heavy, and I also find that the pistol is not "snappy" like so many compact and sub-compact pistols tend to be. That was the deciding factor for me, as I wanted an edc that I could shoot on a regular basis, and not have it beat up my hand trying to shoot an unpleasant pistol. I have large hands so I added the plus-1 extension from HK and it makes a big difference also by giving my "pinky finger" somewhere to rest. Try to find a way to shoot one before you purchase... Check with your local range, or even ask in one of the gun forums if there is someone close by you that could meet you at a range to give you the chance to shoot one. Most gun folks are willing to let someone interested in the same type of gun that they have shoot it to see if it is something they would like, so do not be afraid to ask! Good luck, and I wish you success in your search. One last thing, my wife loves both the P30 and the P30sk, so there is at least one female vote of liking them! Munro
Brennen Munro thank You! I did try some different ones at the range. Decided on the M&P Shield 9mm. Very light and felt similar in shooting to the VP 9. 😀
Hi Mary, Thank you for your reply. I am happy that you found a carry gun that suits your needs and that you are pleased with, be safe and happy shooting! Munro
I agree. Fully ambi, no risk of it being pushed, and can work easily for people with smaller hands like me who find it hard to push a button on the left side.
I love the grip on this weapon. The texture really holds it in your hand very well, but does not hurt in any way. It just fits into my hands perfectly. I do not own one though. I just cound not justify the cost when I can get another pistol equal in quality that is condiderably less. That being said, if anyone does buy this pistol, I am sure they will be very happy with their purchase from what I have experienced with them.
@hickok45 I have the P30 with the "LEM" (Variant 2) trigger which would be much more similar to your Glock trigger. It's a 7.42 lb trigger pull that's exceptionally smooth, and it's much smoother than my M&P 40, for comparison. The ergonomics are definitely what make this gun superb; you hit the nail on the head with that one. (FWIW, I picked mine up for 25% less than you stated in the video). I can say truthfully that this pistol, with the LEM trigger, is the only pistol I carry these days.
+Jason Ries I've never understood the criticism of these sights - they're daytime sights that are designed to be very prominent and easy for the eye to pick them up, even in low lighting - they're not night sights! From what I've read online, people seem to think they're a lame version of night sights.
The P30 ist eine Wunderpistole! It's kind of a refined USP I take it... I hope these new models drive down the price of used USP's. Thanks, hickok, great video as always and thanks also to whomever lent you it.
Considering a threaded model doesn't exist (only a prototype manufactured after the movie - after a rise in interest) and considering that it's a Hollywood production... it only makes sense that they didn't spend the time and money to R&D a threaded and functional compensator for the film. The only other compensator that exists mounts to the front accessory rail and it looks completely different.
TheNajSD negative...we have threaded models here in Australia, we need to because of barrel length restrictions, P30l barrel is 111.3mm, we need to have a 120mm barrel so our P30's have a threaded barrel
+Brendan Aaron Meyer That character uses the .45 version with a compensator in the said film. I recognized it immediately because my wife owns the model used in this Hickok video.
Manny Fuxgiven Figures... thinking of the club scene where he puts his glock away and gets out that said H&K to try and shoot through the heavier glass, my mind went to a larger caliber. Hollywood strikes again.
Hellow hickok45,...As usually your videos are awsome, I never miss anyone. I would like to ask you a question about guns,...Is it normal for a handgun a play between the slide and the polymer frame ??
Das ist meine absolute Lieblings Pistole SA/DA, eine sehr Gute Haptik, robust und von einer Qualität auf höchstem Niveau, für mich die Nr. 1 :-) forget the Glock boys ;-)
8:06 Wonder if anyone noticed that? Hk's automatically chamber when a new magazine is inserted :) Takes a bit of force He looks kinda stunned afterward like "what just happened" Good guns :)
Another thing... whenever I'm not carrying my USP in a shoulder holster (Galco Classic Lite holsters require the gun to be decocked.), such as on the hip, open carrying in the back country, I keep it cocked and locked rather than decocked just to have a single action trigger from the first to last shot. It does take a bit more training than some other guns to become proficient with both firing modes but having that option helps justify the price tag for me.
The german federal police and the german customs service use this gun as the standart sidearm.

Just got my HK P30L in and so far im in absolute Love with it. I dont mind a DA/SA pistol as I've owned CZs in the past and im planning on going to the range asap. Love Glocks and Sigs but I've been wanting to create an HK collection and this beauty is kicking it off.
i love the mag release i think its the best idea
@stewplaid, We have a video update on it.
Thanks hickok45! good to go.
Nice Review. The P30 is the regular sidearm of the Federal Police in Germany. Good to see, where my taxes goes.
of course you can do that. i work at hk we do these tests with the guns, especially because we offer them to millitary forces and to special units of the police. we also offer a special kit that includes a holster and a cable gun holder, in cobination of those two its impossible that you drop it.
Jack Bauer just sold a billion of these on 24!
I love that I can watch the rounds arch and hit downrange and then bounce around. Gives you a sense of the distance when the round slows enough that you can watch it. Lol nice shooting.
i got one of those. even got a fancy dancy orange tip to let others know how dangerous it is!
Jack Bauer's main pistol in '24: Live Another Day'.
Hitting that turkey @17:04 and the subsequent shots... Just Awesome!
Hickok45 the REAL Baba Yaga
the sound of bullets hitting steel is music to my ears
H&K does such a great job on their pistols :)
Years later, but watched because. (you might guess). Appreciate everything you do. Have to get back to watching the Sunday Shoot a Rounds. Best to you and all of us as things unravel.
That mag release is genius design sir go natural way not looking for button on the left or right s..
nah i prefer the grip mounted release
If you're actually "looking" for the magazine release, you have a serious training problem.
Training for what, WW3? The apocalypse? Or just tacticool training you will never use?
@BroskyWhoDatedHoski it's an option.
Really good pistol.
Personally i only have to find the S Version of the P30.
I think an extra safety feature would be nice, and the S Version has it.
two years in the safe with a HKP30, I love your vids man but I can't believe that, what a goof
ya got me! ya ol fart
The assertion that a Block has a "longer life" is open to debate.
@BLOODHOUND528, Thanks, I'd take you up on that if I were a bit closer.
Erich Rahm yes thank you. I will keep looking for one to get my hands on. Enjoy!
I love the P30 series of HK pistols
Munro
I have lady the P30S is a great gun... the best ...and is a smaller version of HK
Their is no such thing as to big.
I agree. Fully ambi, no risk of it being pushed, and can work easily for people with smaller hands like me who find it hard to push a button on the left side.
Wish he would do a comparison of the H&K VP-9, Walther PPQ, and the Sig P320.
Leonard Miletello right. What do you think?
CZ p10c
I finally retired my P30 from house defense. Moved on to my Extar EP9 with a much longer mag. The P30 has been a dream to own.
Hawkeye’s sidearm! 👌🏼👌🏼
Got the p30l v3 version far and away my best firearm. Reset is a little long but that is a quick fix. Good shooting everyone!
Lol, that lone 22 at 20:50.
Eyy Mr Hickok....I love HK guns, but I want to see you testing one of the best gun of the world, HK USP. A huge pal
The P30 has been on my most wanted list since I picked one up at a gun show, it feels so good. Can't wait to see it wrung out some more.
This guys neighbors must absolutely love him lol
Watch the other video on p30 vs p229. His neighbor is shoot as well. Not sure what, sounded like a cannon
Love the 3 dot illuminator sight
Ye looks nice
+Jason Ries I've never understood the criticism of these sights - they're daytime sights that are designed to be very prominent and easy for the eye to pick them up, even in low lighting - they're not night sights! From what I've read online, people seem to think they're a lame version of night sights.
The P30 ist eine Wunderpistole! It's kind of a refined USP I take it... I hope these new models drive down the price of used USP's. Thanks, hickok, great video as always and thanks also to whomever lent you it.
Great pistol. Thanks for doing this vid, the P30 is a very very nice 9mm.
8:20 to 8:54 thats the best shooting ive ever seen your a surgeon. Respect
John Wick Brought me here
Fake compensators didn't bring me here.
How do you know it's fake.
I love this gun. It shoots so smooth and the grip is amazing...feels like it was molded to my hand.
John Wick!
+Brendan Aaron Meyer That character uses the .45 version with a compensator in the said film. I recognized it immediately because my wife owns the model used in this Hickok video.
+Brian Honor no, he uses a p30L... you can google it
Manny Fuxgiven Thanks for the heads up... I didn't realize... still a .45 though?
+Brian Honor Negative, ghostrider, 9mm.
Manny Fuxgiven Figures... thinking of the club scene where he puts his glock away and gets out that said H&K to try and shoot through the heavier glass, my mind went to a larger caliber. Hollywood strikes again.
+1 to the guy that asked for hkp2000sk review. LEM in 9 or .40 if u can get your hands on one. Really enjoy your videos for years, Hickok45!
8:06
Wonder if anyone noticed that?
Hk's automatically chamber when a new magazine is inserted :) Takes a bit of force
He looks kinda stunned afterward like "what just happened"
Good guns :)
With a little practice, Hickok, you might get to be a good shot one day.
....
Picked mine up today. First mag shoot better than all my glocks, and my FNS. Just an amazing firearm.
