( i know this is not the proper place to ask but i am sure you wont mind. I am your fan and i watch your videos and learned much more things about guns. I am just a gun lover, nothing else.)
@John Doe I'd say that they're all great companies and all have solid guns and guns that have their problems (VP9, P320 and P365, Glock 44, Glock Gen 4 at release, etc.). But I'd rank them HK, SIG hammer, Glock, CZ, SIG striker
@@Omar-if1cu no, nothing wrong with either had an m&p, loved it. Wanted the paddle mag release, the p30 melts in your hand, once you touch an hk, you won't go back. Heck if Germans know how to do two things great. Make beer and make things to kill people

P30 trigger leaves a little to be desired but once you get used to it, it’s really not bad. It’s got quite a bit of take up and reset but it breaks really nice. I'm actually about to buy the HK P30 in .40S&W so this was nice to see another review with it right before hand and to know you like it too! Thanks Hickock!
I like the DA/SA because it gives you a very safe firearm. When drawing and firing quickly, striker fired pistols are far more prone to "glock-legging" their owner. Also, a DA/SA pistol is far safer to hold on a person while attempting to control a situation. The DA essentially eliminates the possibility of an adrenaline twitch causing an accidental discharge. The striker fired guns are just a little to easy too set off accidentally, for my taste. That and, no matter how much I try, I just can't like that trigger safety mechanism found on most striker fired pistols. Funny how much conversation there is about how difficult it is to get accustomed to the DA/SA transition and how little there seems to be about how awkward those little levers in the trigger can be.
I dont know,I was kind of worried about that at first but that first round in the hk is a hard pull. I have dropped my HK a few times never went off thank god.
@@DPham1 that's because the 320 is a striker fired gun. Sig DA/SA pistols have a plunger blocking off the firing pin so it can't strike the back of a round without pulling the trigger to depress it and also the hammer won't engage the back of the firing pin without the trigger being pulled.

Then he moved over to the Glock 34 which....gotta say....Owning two Glocks both in 9mm the Glock 34 to me is the only reason to go bigger than the Glock 19. It looks really cool with the cut-aways and whatnot! HK P30 and SIG p229 are at the tippity-top of my semi-auto list right alongside getting my Kimber 1911 back or something superior. (though TBH the Chiappa Rhino 4d which Hickock DESPISES in terms of looks...that's kinda my "must-have" for wahtever reason, that gun that calls out to me the same way the Glock 19 or Kimber Custome TLE 2 did, or Ruger Police Shooter-Six which wound up being the 1976 bicenntenial model which is just great...was given by an army buddy, kinda my favorite carry gun tbh, and it's 41 years old!) The HK P30 I know would feel great, and I hear both good and bad things about the trigger. Im personally a DA/SA man (SA, really, if I can go the 1911 route) though I recognize the Glock 19 as the "Go-to"....that said the HK-p30 and SIG P229, can't go wrong. The HK-p30 can be purchased new for the same price of the now pretty dated, yet still awesome looking, BEretta 92fs/M9
Note: the HK P30 Long and the ones from John Wick particularly are at least $1200, the one I saw in this video was around $650, then I saw one for $550, new!
I'd love to hear more as a former Kimber owner. Loved mine but I think i'll go for a Springfield 1911...what would you go for (if you HAD to pick a 1911...not sure if you are a fan or not, i presume so..
Two really nice guns, I have 2 of each actually. The SIG is proof positive that bore axis really is over rated. My SIG 229's as well my 226 are extremely soft shooters and very fast to re-aquire. Very little muzzle rise and easily as soft shooting as the amazing P30. With that said my P30L is one of my favorite pistols, the weight, the grip are really second to none but I have to give the SIG kudos for the better trigger. Give me a tigger as good as the SIG, grip as comfortable as the P30, the balance of the P30L and an durable steel frame and now we are talking...oh wait I just described my CZ SP-01! Thanks for your awesome videos Hickock!!
Funnily enough I own a P30L in 9mm and a P229 in .357 Sig (originally in .40) and I can't get over how chunkier the P229 is, but the trigger is definitely better. The ergonomics on the H&K are great though. I've started hitting the decock button with my strong hand's thumb and easing down the hammer so it isn't as jarring.
as a lefty, I swapped my mag release on my P226 to the other side and can run it pretty smooth and quick-great vids, thanks for sharing your knowledge-life is good!
Awesome video, Hickok. I never knew much about the P30. As a Sig 228 owner, I personally think H & K are the only pistols that are the equal of the Sig Sauers. I got the female trigger on mine, and I love it the pull. I shot the USP .45 in the Army pretty frequently, and there's no doubt it's a very nice weapon. All in all, though, the Sig is just simpler to use and feels better. Field stripping in an emergency goes more quickly with the Sig. I also don't care for the ambidextrous controls.
In rural areas of Tennessee on the weekends, especially on Sundays, it sounds like armageddon. Everyone is shooting. It's a real comfortable feeling. I love it.
Just recently picked up a Sig 229r....love it!!!...Neva had an HK but would love to get a p30 I'm sure there both great guns...unlike alot of guys i love all fire arms!!! No Fan Boy Here!!!
I did better with the HK than p226 that I tested at a range. I'm very new to practicing this, but I actually think I prefer the DA/SA. It sort of forces me to focus on the squeeze rather than the shot because of how it changes the feel like that. At first, I felt uncomfortable with the switch from DA to SA, but then it occurred to me that the gun itself is just as accurate regardless of how far I have to squeeze the trigger. So, now I use the change as a sort of guide that reminds me to focus on squeezing the trigger rather than on the shot that's about to happen. It throws off my ability to predict exactly where the shot will come out so that I can forget about the kick and let it happen unexpectedly like we're taught to help avoid anticipating it.
It is a good point to note that the Sig P229 is all stainless which gives it more weight, and the HK has a polymer frame with a stainless slide...HK has a better barrel design in that they twist the barrel instead of having grooves in it...makes it easier to clean
Hickok is always trying to find the decocker of the Sig on the H&K, because he likes it so much ^^ Nice video, nice guns, so Hickok45 you just made my day again!
As a Sig, H&k and Hickok45 fanboy, I’m surprised you don’t have a P220 and USP 45 going head to head. I feel like those are closer in size and cartridge to what those tennis racket sized hands are used to.
I couldn't agree with you more. I also have a Sig P229, great accuracy, unbelievably smooth trigger pull. I have not had one jam with this gun to date.
You're clearly not a Hickok45 subscriber. I'd really recommend his videos, they're very entertaining and his descriptions are very detailed. He's also ONE HELL OF A SHOT!
I point this out because a lot of people watch your videos and are influenced by your reviews. I am not a Sig fan-boy or anything of the sort. I LOVE both guns in this vid, just felt the comparisons could have been more even. Keep putting out the spectacular videos. We look forward to them.
the HK seems more accurate to me and i love the mag release, I love how u show how they work at different distances and your very good I wanna be a good shooter like you
I haven't seen this comment but if it's already here I apologize. If you go with the P229 Legacy either police version or Legacy Elite TALO special edition, you get the added 3 Dot Siglite night sights, plus amazing, IMO, upgraded G-10 grips. It does also come with the front slide serrations and you can get it with a pic. rail and I believe still come in under the price of the P30. I know you did mention some of that, but I thought I'd just cover it plus which model to look for to get those features. As always thanks for the great video. Oh and the price on the TALO does seem to be starting to creep up, as they're getting harder to find, and they are limited run although not a collectors run.
Have the P229 Enhanced Elite and love it. Has never failed me. Great all around side arm. I understand everyone has their favorites, but I really cant find a reason not to love this Sig. Thanks Hickock for the vid.
I would pick the sig because of things like the decocker being better and the way the sig feels in your hand, but im a little sig bias as I own a sig 226 9mm, sig 226 40S&W, 229 9mm, sig 1911 45 acp, sig 938 in 9mm and my winter carry gun the sig 320C in 357 sig. I only carry the 320 in winter because living in Florida it gets to hot to wear a over shirt and with a T-Shirt I can carry the 938 with no problem
For me, Heini sights - Sig, Front slide serrations - H&K, Standard Mag Release - Sig, Ambidextrous - H&K, - What to do? I have been looking at the HK45, but then again I also am looking at the Redhawk .45 colt. So many guns, so little time. Whenever I switch handguns like that, I always have problems as I get used to the trigger change.
The Sig P229 has picatinny rails, the P229 SAS has no accessory rail and is complete Anti-Snag” and refers to the aggressive “carry melt” process applied to the slide and frame in Sig’s Custom Shop, which smoothes all the corners and edges for comfort in carry, the trigger of the P229 is amazing, the P229 is the best pick for CCW. If you prefer strike fire over hammer fired you are not a 1911 guy hickok.
There are so many great pistols out there right now. And these are two of the finest. I seriously doubt that any normal shooter would ever wear out a modern pistol.
I wish people would stop comparing every gun to a 1911. If you want a 1911, then get a 1911. If I did have one, it would either be a Sig or a Colt Combat.
David...almost every modern auto traces it's roots to the classic 1911. Like these two guns. Sure they're much more modern, but you can see the basic principles of both are 1911-ish.
Hickock thank you for the videos. I live in Puerto Rico which means, car jacking is a high possibility at night in certain places. I was thinking on going for a p229 legion for concealed carry... but what would you think if I inclined more to the P30?
I was surprised to hear about Hicock45's preference for striker fired, though I had seen the Glock hat. I enjoyed the video, because my gal carries a Sig sp2022, and I have an HK USP. We both love them to death, but neither of us would ever carry a striker fired pistol. Kinda like manual vs. automatic I guess. Keep the videos coming Hickock45. I heard that my dad watches you know!
Great review Hickok.I don't think you would go wrong with either of those pistols. Both are outstanding and worth owning. Thanks and looking forward to your radio show.
Own both but the HK P30's recoil reduction system really makes it an easier shooter. For the money the HK takes the cake on a quantifiable level, however, the SIG Navy and Elite models are really nifty, though im looking for an older one with west german markings if i can ever find one, lol
Well, I'm still getting the G23 gen4... One comment on the Sig featured here - the decocking button on the left just topside of the trigger is significantly more likely to get depressed unintentionally when grabbing for the gun in a rush situation as opposed to the slide mounted button on the HK... Another drawback on the Sig is the lack of picatiny rails on the front of the base (i.e. no lasers or lights)... Neither of these are compatible with the Roni carbine conversion but the HK does fit
Even though the sig was a 40sw it seemed like you were a bit more consistent with it than you were with the HK - one of the reasons I chose my P229 over the HK was that the Sig was much easier to field strip and reassemble than the HK. Also I liked the weight/heft of the sig in my hand as compared to the HK. As you stated early on in the vid when I picked up the Sig I told the sales associate that it felt natural, and substantial...like a gun ought to feel in the hand...whatever that means...guess you can tell I like Sigs
Great side by side comparison, I like the Sig just because I have 2 Sigs (SP2022-9mm and P226-40S&W). I have nothing against the H&K weapons since I have not owned them. I like the SA/DA of both. Thanks for the review
Having owned both HK's and Sig's, all of my HK's are now sold. They are the best polymer pistol on the market, no doubt... But for $800.00 dollars plus, I want more than a polymer gun.... A Sig P Series cost more to make than an HK, you get more gun for your money...
Greg, why do prefer a striker fired pistol over the hammer fired? It would seem to me that the first shot cocking of a double/single action pistol would be preferable even though you have the heavier pull of the fist shot.
13:54 & 16:38 - you can tell he's more used to the P229 (perhaps due to experiences with the P226/P220) because he keeps reaching for the Sig's decocker on the HK P30.
Actually, it would be quite different with most I've experienced; I'd be packing with a really light trigger, similar to carrying a 1911 with the thumb safety disengaged.
There is no thumb safety on the P229. Condition 0 on a very light SA trigger is not smart at all. There is a big difference between a 3.5 lb SA vs 5.5 lb DAO striker fired pistol.
Cocked and locked is fine by me, but in this version you'd have no "locked", so you'd just be "cocked." However, you can convert the HK P30 to a different variant by adding a thumb safety, which would allow safe carry while the hammer is back.
Damen Spillman Actually your numbers are incorrect. I currently carry an M&P with a 5.5# trigger. Glock boasts a factory 5# trigger, its actually 7 or 8. Are we saying someone would have a ND with the Sig 4.4# trigger and not a Glick or M&P with a 5.5# trigger? That 1 # makes the gun safe from people who cannot handle s firearm? Of course not. The argument that a 4 # trigger is unsafe is absolutely silly. I had an ND with an XD and that 7# trigger. The only safety is your brain. Simple.
A big factor you are forgetting is pull length. In SA, there really isn't much play, and virtually none with a SRT. Meanwhile on a Glock or MP, you have to move the trigger over a distance before it will fire. No, one lb probably won't make a difference if the pull length is identical, but they aren't
At the department I used to work for we had the exact same sigs, except that they were Double Action Only. There was no decocking/hammer drop lever. Things were pretty old and had thousands and thousands of rounds through them, and the actions were still like butter.
Everybody is welcome, of course, to make comments, but please try to have something clear, constructive, and appropriate to say. Remember, a lot of youngsters around the world watch these videos and read the comments.

(though TBH the Chiappa Rhino 4d which Hickock DESPISES in terms of looks...that's kinda my "must-have" for wahtever reason, that gun that calls out to me the same way the Glock 19 or Kimber Custome TLE 2 did, or Ruger Police Shooter-Six which wound up being the 1976 bicenntenial model which is just great...was given by an army buddy, kinda my favorite carry gun tbh, and it's 41 years old!)
The HK P30 I know would feel great, and I hear both good and bad things about the trigger.
I worked for Kimber, their 1911's are highly over-rated!
I'd love to hear more as a former Kimber owner. Loved mine but I think i'll go for a Springfield 1911...what would you go for (if you HAD to pick a 1911...not sure if you are a fan or not, i presume so..
HK company decided to reduce the prices of the HK p30s and HK45s to almost half the price. so yes you can get an HK p30 for 550$ now.
Haha!! "That's my neighbor shooting. Kind of a ballistic neighborhood." Nice pun there!
Eric Johnson HK USP 9mm with a match trigger dropped in = sex. nuff said.
I own both in 40. I love the P30 40. Its an amzing gun to hold and shoot!!! The P229 is a great gun also but I give the edge to the P30
I agree. Its very difficult to make that conclusion though. Both guns are like the best of the best.
Is there a difference in recoil and muzzle rise between the P30 and P229 in .40? Any opinion will be appreciated. Thanks.
THUMBS UP FOR H&K
Yo
Still enjoying my p229r 15 years running, purchased sig rmr red dot slide 2 years ago, made a great gun even more fun
Well done Hickock, nice comparison. I really like how you tested the double to single shooting on both guns. Thanks.
That 40 makes quite a racket when hitting the steel.
My P226 is stamped Made in West Germany! Yes, I've had it since I was 21 and it's one of my favorites! I'm as old as Hickok 45! :)
You gotta try the LEM trigger! Finally solves the DA/SA problem you don’t like
Awesome video, Hickok.
@hickok45 do a review on the usp 45 for us.
YES IVE HAD ONE FOR YEARS
Damn, I was watching music videos and somehow I STILL got over to hickoks videos... I can't stay away!
I wonder if Hickok is the local dumpster diver with all those plastic bottles he shoots.
Sotallytober i thought you were going to say plastic guns
Touche , mr Glock shooter.
I doubt it. Probably has stock in Shasta
It is a good point to note that the Sig P229 is all stainless which gives it more weight, and the HK has a polymer frame with a stainless slide...HK has a better barrel design in that they twist the barrel instead of having grooves in it...makes it easier to clean
Tell John thanks for the great video work.
Hickok is always trying to find the decocker of the Sig on the H&K, because he likes it so much ^^
Nice video, nice guns, so Hickok45 you just made my day again!
Have you ever shot HK MK 23? PLEASE show us!!
After watching this video, I'll be buying the p30. Thanks hickok! Awesomely informative video as always.
The Sig 229 is just beautiful :3
I just got mine =) P229 dated 2012.
Brendon Ryan Albury P229
I love this channel cuz if i leave and have to start the video over it just starts from the last place i was at! great reviews and great channel
like the sound track on this video. The safer neighborhood...
You're clearly not a Hickok45 subscriber. I'd really recommend his videos, they're very entertaining and his descriptions are very detailed. He's also ONE HELL OF A SHOT!
The P30 looks like it fits in the hand like a glove.
Rez it does, I have the p30L
Rez oh goodness, yes! The ergonomics on the P30 is off the charts
Great demo. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience on these guns. both of them are my favorites..
swiss police officers carry the hk p30.
I point this out because a lot of people watch your videos and are influenced by your reviews. I am not a Sig fan-boy or anything of the sort. I LOVE both guns in this vid, just felt the comparisons could have been more even. Keep putting out the spectacular videos. We look forward to them.
the HK seems more accurate to me and i love the mag release, I love how u show how they work at different distances and your very good I wanna be a good shooter like you
Heckler&koch yesterday, today and tomorrow will be the best, no questions ask!!!
Shot both and I like the Sig 10x better. Feels better, recoils better. Plus it's used all over the world.
You should do a video on the H&K USP. 40 or .45.
I have the 40. I fed it garbage ammo and it malfunctioned a couple of times back in 1999. It has been perfect ever since.
Have the P229 Enhanced Elite and love it. Has never failed me. Great all around side arm. I understand everyone has their favorites, but I really cant find a reason not to love this Sig. Thanks Hickock for the vid.
My favorite carry gun HK P30 SK LEM
The DASA is pretty 👌 tbh
Have both right now and trying to decide which to keep. Thanks for the video.
Hey can u do a video about UPS H&K 45 tactical
Thon Saephanh is that the brown model?
Mr. Hickock45 You are so funny. Thank you for uploading these instructive and entertaining videos.
> "I'm a little Sig biased" - lists 6 Sig pistols he owns... Lol
Nazgul001
Yes, I know (most) semi autos are based on John Browning's design, but a 1911 is a 1911. All other guns are not!
Very good point. Never realized this on Hickock45 videos... Thanks for insight.
I have the H&K p30 I love it
This guy could pick something apart no matter what firearm he shoots!😂😂 love both Sig an HK! Both are amazing firearms! Great review! 💯✌🏻
Lol I see you reaching for that Sig decocker on the HK. 12:44
Outstanding review always
IMO the P229 blows the P30 out of the water, especially if the Sig has the SRT trigger.
Hickock thank you for the videos. I live in Puerto Rico which means, car jacking is a high possibility at night in certain places. I was thinking on going for a p229 legion for concealed carry... but what would you think if I inclined more to the P30?
puertoricanboy100 both are great. Sig mags are a bit cheaper especially since you can always find preowned out there.
Man, the metal was really ringing today. Sounded like church bells.
Great review Hickok.I don't think you would go wrong with either of those pistols. Both are outstanding and worth owning. Thanks and looking forward to your radio show.
I prefer the Sig
Thomas Ward you can buy a $200,000 gold toilet, but that doesn't make it better than a porcelain one.
Ohsnapzdawg a better comparison would be a porcelain or plastic toilet. a plastic port-o-potty functions just fine, but......
Sig is better to shoot. HK will be more reliable in extreme situations. But that's unlikely.
i got a new p30 for 650
p30 goes for 650 new. in WA
Greg, why do prefer a striker fired pistol over the hammer fired? It would seem to me that the first shot cocking of a double/single action pistol would be preferable even though you have the heavier pull of the fist shot.
Sig Legions!
Robert Little - Hickok please review a P226 legion.
Thanks Hickok great video I have a sig 229 and just looking for for info on it thanks again
H&K all day
13:54 & 16:38 - you can tell he's more used to the P229 (perhaps due to experiences with the P226/P220) because he keeps reaching for the Sig's decocker on the HK P30.
Have an issue with the DA/SA? Just carry it in SA. Problem solved. Its no different than your M&P or Glock.
Damen Spillman
Actually your numbers are incorrect.
HK a German brand so bias is understood 🇩🇪
So is Sig...At least the Sauer half.
And Sig isn't?
Good honest review. Always enjoy your reviews Sir.
