    • @flavoredwallpaper
      @flavoredwallpaper 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      The parties more or less switched platforms. The Republicans of back then were more for big government and supported social justice reforms (such as abolishing slavery and protecting minority groups). The Democrats were for smaller government; they were the conservative, status-quo kind of folk. The reason for the switch is complex, but to simplify: I'd say it mostly started with southern democrats ("dixiecrats") switching sides in '64 because they opposed integration. Folk like Strom Thurmond jumped ship and the Republican party was happy to take whoever they could get.

    • @bailey9r
      @bailey9r 4 ปีที่แล้ว +68

      @@flavoredwallpaper Whatever flavored your wallpaper burned your mind. This is a failed diversion pulled from time to time but fails everytime. Robert Byrd was a dem senator AND Hillary's mentor from 1959ish till his death in 2010. (A dixiecrat to demicrat for life, also a KKK grand Wizard) So that would mean your BS swap was between 2010 and now. Go ahead and tell us what year...Crickets.....

    • @OGPatriot03
      @OGPatriot03 4 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      @@flavoredwallpaper There is literally no point in time, or even era where you can point to and claim that the parties switched sides. To claim that one side or the other supported more or less government doesn't pass the sniff test when Republicans supported the 2nd amendment, and the democrats sought to increase the government's size by restricting it. The Democrat confederacy wasn't fighting for smaller government, they literally fought for their ability to keep humans as slaves which sounds pretty big government to me.
      This is a BS hoax perpetrated by the Democrat party after outright racism (against blacks) became unpopular as Republicans passed the Civil rights act of 1964 after Democrats blocked the Civil Rights act of 1957. Nixon spent his time talking to senators trying to get them to support both attempts.
      Meanwhile the Democrats have fielded KKK members/leaders even in recent elections.
      The parties didn't switch sides, parties don't switch sides, it's a fanatical narrative that can only stand so long as no one even remotely questions it. After you get past the fact that there is zero evidence that supports your theory, it stands to reason that parties don't simply switch sides as time passes, and to call the abolition of slavery (Something many founders wanted after creating this country) "Social justice reform" is completely asinine with modern context.

      @Ls Vijay I'm generally a fan and a subscriber to Mr. Dice's TH-cam channel. But must say that I am honestly very disappointed in his way overgeneralization of my generation. People on here do realize that a generation is a group of people made up of millions upon millions of individuals around this entire planet. So when we say an entire generation is reasponsable, what you are quite literally saying is that you know, personally know, the beliefs habits Traditions Etc of literally millions of individuals on the planet you are literally claiming that you know these individuals. That is hypocrisy at its finest. Perhaps you all should go look in the mirror and remember how you were part of the younger generation and being scapegoated by the older Generations who were supposed to be your elders and teach you stuff like emotional impulse control, something that they were clearly lacking, shown in their emotially bases scapegoating, before jumping right into this little fantasy world you built for yourselves where everything is black and white. Millennials, or a lot of them at least, only get sucked into their cell phones because our elders taught us that the primary way to gain acceptance success and respect in society is information, and so therefore when this new way of providing and finding information came along, of course we got addicted to it. What did you think was going to happen elders ? it's the human species as a whole that are f****** themselves over. Not to mention the fact that there really isn't such a thing as a generation to begin with. A generation is nothing more nor nothing less then a measurement of a particular group or individual at any given place at any given time. In this case, the group os an ave-group. It is an average, or in other words a look at the most. Not a whole, and it never will be. Simply because some individual is around the same age as some other idiots somewhere doesn't make that person one of thoses idiots. The way I see, it based on my personal observance of people's behavior in society as a whole throughout my life so far, there are two primary ways to live in la-la land. There's the la-la land of people whose thinking is for leaning more towards the creative side of the brain which is The La La Land Of Sunshine rainbows and bunny rabbits. There is also the lala land of anyone who may think more towards the logical side of the brain which is the la la land where everything is black and white and under the thumb of human control. The latter being the La La Land in which most of you seem to live in. There is also a slowly but surely Rising number of Millennials becomming trump supporters. Sincerely, an Infowars supporting, Trump supporting, libertarian millennial from Los Angeles California.

    • @myleskgallagher
      @myleskgallagher 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Millennials have been the ONLY ones in "university" for 20 years. At MOST, you've taught 2 generations. And even if you taught Gen X in the 90s, it's much more likely that you've simply become older and clinical since then. Sorry, bud.

    • @bolewts58

      Myles Gallagher. I guess I touched a nerve. Actually, more than 2 generations, "BUD" - Boomers II(aka Gen Next), Gen-X, Millennials, Gen-Z). I taught my first university course at the age of 21 in 1973. I am still teaching, so am teaching Gen-Zs now. I am not "clinical". I think you meant 'cynical' which kind of proves my point. I speak from experience having taught in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s, and now 2020s. I will double down and say that American students even in the 80s were among the least informed I ever met. I'm sure it's only gone done hill from there.

    • @myleskgallagher
      @myleskgallagher 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bolewts58 Anyways....
      Your attempt to "double down" is actually what did in your entire argument. Let's approach this from an academic perspective:
      Claim 1: "millenials are the least informed generation I have ever taught"
      Claim 2: "Students in the 80s were among the least informed I ever met" (in 89, the oldest millenial was 8 years old)
      In attempting to "double down," you fundamentally contradicted yourself and destroyed your own credibility.
      Furthermore, the last boomer turned 21 (graduated college) in 1985. The rest of that decades' college students were Gen X. Half n Half. By saying students in the 80s were the least informed, you are attacking your own generation in addition to contradicting your initial claim about Millenials.
      So, the "least informed" students were Boomers and Gen X, but also somehow Millenials a full decade later? You just hate everybody, don't you? Every generation can't be the worst. Your claims contradict eachother at every turn.
      You come off as a cynical old fart who sees every generation born after him as entitled and dumb, without any reason beyond pure observation. You did not invent this. Old farts have been doing it since the dawn of man. Though, your inability to recognize your own biases does reflect poorly on you as an educator.
      Please go back to school (as a student) and learn some basic reasoning and debate skills, bud. You failed miserably here.

I currently teach in Asia and while there are knowledge issues here, the students are much smarter than those who I used to teach in Chicago. I'm sure you'll respond with another take down. I don't doubt what you're saying, but that still doesn't explicitly say that these are the only people interviewed which is why I'm not calling him a liar. I think he's a content creator specifically creating the content people want to see (which is fine) i.e 'dumb millennials'. I watch videos of both left and right content creators. It's always the extremes on both sides shown. Rarely do you see content of left or right leaning people because the extremes are just much more entertaining and polarizing.

Cuz you know how democrats and republicans switched ideals during the progressive era (specifically during FDR’s presidency), so the democrat ideals of today fit the republican ideals of the late 1800s and early 1900s (and visa versa). And that’s an easy thing to forget if you’re not paying attention in class cause knowing that isn’t considered as important as learning about the Great Depression and WWII (since the political switch happened during these times it kind of gets overshadowed or under emphasized). And I’m pretty sure that these people didn’t pay attention in history class because bruh you learn who won the civil war in elementary school.

In fact, FDR barely tried to oppose racism at all. The south was still completely dominated by democrats until the 1960s, and only slowly started losing hold after that. I learned it, forgot about it within a week until many years later in my early twenties I subjected myself to it as I was newly interested in history and war. I graduated Penn State with a degree in chemical engineering. it's all about interests and priorities, not intelligence.

      The first Armistice Day was held by Buckingham Palace in 1919, which set the trend for a day of remembrance.
      Veterans Day does honor those who fought in the Civil War too.
      In the United States
      In the U.S., Veterans Day honors American veterans, both living and dead. The official national remembrance of those killed in action is Memorial Day, originally called 'Decoration Day', from the practice of decorating the graves of war dead in the years immediately following the American Civil War; Decoration/Memorial Day already existed at the time of the armistice.

      He's saying that Mark's claim to Veteran's Day being a result of the American Civil War is wrong. Prior to WW1, there were days of remembrance for nearly every conflict, but Veteran's Day wasn't formed until after the greatest loss of life in a single conflict that involved all of the greatest world powers.

And your war of independence could be more accurately described as the second English Civil War because most citizens At that time still regarded themselves as English and many left to Canada rather than be treacherous to the home country. This was why Australia was colonized by the British because I had nowhere else to send their convicts to. Thank you to Americans because ID hate to have to speak Spanish all the time.

      Mark should pay attention. If he did, he'd know that the Republican and Democratic parties faced an ideological swap around the turn of the century---between the end of the Civil War and the 1920s. Republicans of the mid-1800s were the party of big federal government and progressive social issues, while Democrats of the time were the party of small federal government and a conservative approach to social issues.
      To equate Lincoln to the modern Republican Party is wholly disingenuous.

      Yes there was. It's documented history. What you're telling me is that you're denying documented history and laughing about it. Is it really that difficult for you to do a quick Google search? If you don't believe the results on Google, you can look into it yourself through a simple search for the specific Party platforms in each Presidential election year and you'll find that Republicans of the time were "big government", fiscally and socially liberal while Democrats were "small government" via fiscal and social conservatism. It's inarguable.

    • @ptrckowns
      @ptrckowns 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      reid8470
      Can you offer any reason or proof as to why there was this so called "ideological swap"? What was the purpose of this ideological swap? How do you suppose this swap happened? Did the republicans and democrats get together and decide to trade the names of their party?
      You are asserting that at some point between the Civil War and the 1920's people decided that instead of being called a racist democrat, they wanted to be called a racist Republican? Since this so called "ideological swap" supposedly happened; do you think it could happen again? What would you do if a bunch of Republicans decided to start calling themselves Democrats presently? Would Democrats start calling themselves Republicans?
      Also, how do you explain Senator Robert Byrd? Senator Byrd was part of the KKK and served 51 years as a democrat senator in West Virginia until he died in 2010... did he somehow not get the memo that racists swapped party names?
      Democrats traded in their whips for the soft bigotry of low expectations, and traded their plantations in for control of most cities. It's easy to draw comparisons from the slave shacks on plantations then, and the ghetto tenements and neighborhoods that are pervasive in almost every major Democrat controlled city now....

      Raver Unbroken You are not a millennial if you are shocked by what other liberal Millennials are saying and how they are acting. Maybe you're comment is the byproduct of you finally listening to your conscience and using some common sense, something that liberals and millennials and especially liberal millennials are incapable of doing. They will never question their own righteousness. If you are Awakening to the truth, good for you, I'm pulling for you 100%. The faster you stop self-identifying as a millennial though, the faster the healing process can begin and the more your eyes will be open to the insanity. Take care and PEACE. ☮️

    • @SAS-wm2gm
      @SAS-wm2gm 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SuBruoNL It's about the "millennial" generation. What and how the schools have taught them, along with what the parents have neglected to teach them.
      Parents have also changed their "style" of parenting. Plenty of helicopter type supervision but NOT moral guidance or real knowledge of their child/teens "personal" life. There's been little discipline or guidance, very few consequences for bad actions and insufficient teaching of respect for authority, for others, for hard work, etc, etc
      There's also been a lot of GIVING this generation and the younger Gen Y kids, whatever they wanted. Combine this with low expectations for achievement but high rewards REGARDLESS of the work or effort put forth and you have generations of young people who have an attitude of entitlement but not the work ethic or skills to back it up.

      ok yea they couldn't give me all the attention i wanted brcause both my parents had to work
      but they would sometimes take me out for a like a movie once every 2 weeks or so
      Mom and Dad would often help me with my homework late in the night when they come home despite being super tired at work
      They would leave a list of chores for me to do while they're gone and i don't mind at all
      And I never even touched a phone until i was 15 XD, and it was only a 50 bucks button phone
