Everyone Is LEAVING SIARGAO We Don't Know What To Do

  • We took the offer from our friends in General Luna to stay in their hotel to recharge. Recharge ourselves, our computers and devices and get some videos edited so the world can see what life has been like after Odette on Siargao island.
    Las Palmas and Spotted pig cafe are still running their generator for now, but we found out that everyone we know is leaving the island looking for an escape or a way to work. We currently don't know what to do because it's hard to find out what is happening in other parts of the Philippines.
    Each day our plans change. We'll keep you updated.
    Our names are Jmayel, Sacha & Story. We traveled to Siargao island with Jmayel's mum & Story's grandma just before the Global pandemic that sent the whole planet into quarantine. We got stranded for months and fell in love with island life, now we want to make that life more permanent.

    It was also in the news too.. The parents were telling stories about their kids there about getting a little panicky when the wind gets strong these days and tries to get back to the place where they evacuated to keep them safe. I guess everyone on the island have been traumatized because of the strong typhoon .. hoping the island and all the people living on it will recover soon 🙏 people have been going back and forth to the island before the holidays to buy some stuffs for their home like generators and other necessities since there's no power yet. it's a tourist spot and I can see a lot of people getting hired to help out the community's rehabilitation. I also have seen some organization that help community to recover from the trauma.. PTSD.

    If you ever feel the need to relax and and live the way you guys did in Siargao, feel free to visit Tandag City here in Surigao del Sur. It's only 5 hrs away from Surigao City. Although we were also hit by the typhoon, but somehow it's a big miracle that there's not that much damage in here. Our phone signals and internet here is up now and so as the electricity and water supply. We truly understand the love you guys have for Siargao, but for the meantime it's better for your whole family to find a sanctuary where you can recover and think of better ways on how to rebuild your life there. We are praying for you guys and for the entire people affected by the typhoon. Surely, God will help us recover 🙏🏻 Stay safe ❤️

      Tandag is another nice choice. They are talking about going to Cebu and I'm thinking "Are you nuts ??" . I spent 5 days trying to get someone in Carcar some money via Western Union and they - the city - were paralyzed for a week... no power, no cell... no water.. nothing...and barely any of that is coming back anytime soon. I don't know where this couple gets their information from but it's always off, for some reason.

    • @ivan_xavier
      @ivan_xavier 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SmeeUncleJoe I agree. Life in Cebu right now is very hard and it's not even ideal to stay there for the meantime. Here in Tandag, life is back to normal. Everything is operational. Our geographical location and landscape too is very similar with Surigao City, and I'm sure they will also love it here.

    • @SmeeUncleJoe
      @SmeeUncleJoe 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ivan_xavier They are fleeing Siargao Island , not Surigao City. They mentioned going there and I hope they do not as it's very bad there. I understand they went to Davao already, which was a pretty good option. Except for the air pollution, it's a pretty decent place to seek refuge for now We both agree, Tandag might have been a good choice also if they don't like big cities.

    • @ivan_xavier
      @ivan_xavier 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SmeeUncleJoe well Siargao and Surigao City were totally damaged and Siargao is an Island part of Surigao City. So basically it's just the same. Even the people in the city are fleeing to Butuan or in any other nearby provinces/cities just to seek shelter on their relatives for the meantime.

Whatever decision that you make or have made, please know that I at least will understand completely. Story is the most important thing, her safety and well being has to come first. May the Lord be with you during this difficult time, may His peace surround and fill you and may the path He has for you be made clear. God bless.

    I’ve been saying this before when you were still thinking of staying in the island as residents. I said that Yes, Siargao is an island but unlike the mainland, it has no big hospitals and limited only to take care of minor ailments. Everything is mostly dependent on the mainland as to produce and livestock supplies. If something happens like a calamity, the island being geographically isolated will have a hard time to recuperate and look what happened! It will take months for the electricity, water and basic necessities to come back perhaps months to a year. So, a foreigner like you who are not used to live with the inconveniences around esp. with a child, should take consideration that it is really not practical anymore to stay and ride it out. Some of your friends may stay but they probably owned businesses and properties that they had to work it out. I know you left and relocated to Davao already and it’s the right thing to do. You can recuperate there and start life again. Think about your child who needs stability and emotional healing. You may consider whether to live or stay away in another coastal area again. Ask help from fellow vloggers Kulas or Kumander D the best place to stay for your family. It was you Jay who said you just love to stay in an island close to the beach though you’re not really a beach goer and doesn’t even surf but you love a laid back life style, Siargao has that for you. The house you rent is perfect for the family’s personality. Your location is North, not in a busy community, has privacy on top of the hill that you kept to yourself only. Everything is change now and why not make life anew somewhere in Mindanao like Bukidnon ,CDO or Davao. You can always visit Siargao again when things get back to normal.

      sensible advice...yes this probability of recurrence is very high due to its geographical location...consider this phenomenon a big warning and should be taken seriously...don't listen to people who have businesses or properties in siargao ...think about how would it be if it happens again...look at your actual video footage during that time...it is enough to make a serious decision to move out..hearing your daughter cried is enough to make that decision...this place is facing the pacific ocean...recurrence is high probability rate.

    When we experienced super typhoon Reming on Nov. 30, 2006, we left our place in Legaspi city and spend most of December and January in Manila, just to be able to get over what we experienced during the typhoon, especially the flashfloods of mud, rocks, boulders, and all the debris that went along with it. Then we went back to Legaspi with positive energy and start rebuilding again what was left. It helps a lot to change place after a traumatic experience, it will do you good immensely.

Fortunately I had the choice to move away unlike the locals who had to stay and live with their totally destroyed homes and lives and all the death. A very sad situation. I think anyone that judges you for leaving is not in your position. I think even most Filipinos would leave if they had the means to do so. I'm sure many would stay and help rebuild a home they grew up in, but I'm sure many would go to stay with relatives in a less affected area. Let's be honest though. Most westerners would have a real hard time roughing it with no power and running water for months. If there's another option, 99 percent are going to take it. If you're judging from afar, I challenge you to turn the power and water off in your home for 24 hours and then see how you feel. Oh yeah.....sleep outside with no roof over your head also. Good luck.

    Every cloud has a silver lining. It seems difficult to see now how Siargao will rise, but it will. The people are resilient, positive and resourceful. You will discover too that you are stronger than you think and you will be proud of yourselves. You may not have seen the news yet due to lack of signal but yes the world knows about the typhoon. There has been an outpouring of foreign aid. Lots of devastation where the typhoon made a landfall. The video posted by Sunny has been published. I have watched her interview by a news agency. Also I just read a news article about you guys (ABS-CBN News Article "British family who found island paradise in Siargao face uncertainty after 'Odette'"). Watch "Rise Siargao". It might give you a sense of hope. I hope you find a nice place to stay while Siargao recovers. Good to see Tal. Whatever you decide to do, power on! Take care, watching from NZ.

    I think other cities not affected like Davao could be nice place for temporary shelter while rebuilding Siargao if still no electricity and water.

    It's about time for Siargao people to build back better. Nature can rebuild its own. Document it as it unfolds.

    I really feel sorry for you... I really want you guys to stay but that will be very hard and difficult for you, specially for Story. I totally understand if you will leave, Siargao will raise again, and I'm sure it will welcome you again when it'll be habitable for you guys.

    You definitely need the basics for sure, so go where you need to go for now until things get back to normal there's no point in making yourself crazy you've been through enough, sincerely cliff

    oh look at the two poppy and Story they're both sweet 😋. Actually if you're really want to stay in the Philippines you can move to Davao ,Papang daughter can help you to settle everything,but if you're really worried 😟 You can decide to go back in UK.
