You’ll be surprised how fast those brown foliage will turn green again with that much rain. Now you have a tiny glimpse of how the Filipinos have become so resilient and remained joyful. It can be so traumatic going through that cat5 typhoon so don’t forget to take care of each other and talk about it until you no longer feel the fear you felt. God bless you and stay safe
People who left must have a choice , must have means , must have a place to go or to go back to that is why they left. They probably have relatives who can take them in. Others are unlucky and need to stay because they don't have the above and have no choice but to stay.. and most own house lots , lands they owned or inherited.. I think it is very hard to rebuild a home in Siargao since most materials have to be shipped from the mainland just like in Hawaii, materials have to shipped from the mainland US.
They have grown to like their home here.with only a small repair needed..with the landladgy Jane 's big financial support from 8MFH subscri bers, their place where they are renting can be repaired too...God b less .!
I just love watching the Eight Milers, and their positive attitude towards their predicament. Slowly but surely, you will bounce back. The trees will regrow leaves, new plants will grow, and soon you’ll have a “jungle” again. That’s nature for you. It’ll take some time but in the meantime you’ll be busy with other things. Right, Story? Our lovely Story always has a big smile on her face. Power on J, Sacha, Story and Poppy! You’ll be alright.

I’m surprised they’re not turning the coconut trees into coco lumber and use for rebuilding also. Coconut can be planted too while growing other crops so that there will be coconut trees again in the years to come. So glad to see your family thriving. The Filipino spirit slowly rubbing on you. Philippines do get a lot of sun and rain. Anything can grow. The Island will be lush and green again in no time. The storms are just part of what make Filipinos who they are. I agree, the coconut tree can be use also as post in building a house . In total every part of a coconut tree is very useful, its lack of machinery that slows down cleaning up the whole town
Coconut lumber is no good for permanent structures, they rot easily and structurally weak. It is only good for temporary structures or for form and false works lumber then you can discard them or use them for firewood
I agree,, in negros, we have to pay for the coconut tree and then have somebody cut as other lumber are very expensive. These are very mature trees so they are very good.
Perhaps there is a belief there, too, that fallen trees cannot be used for building material because the building will fall. May sound weird, like "Don't start building in March" for Ilocanos , "ta MARSood" (it will fall).
I have never felt the need to comment on disaster vlogs before but the emotion, the journey that you are taking us on shows the real people you are, the rollercoaster of emotions experiencing the typhoon, and the positivity that you have managed to inject into the community in which I can see you belong. I felt like I almost should know the people that you mention were "there and over there". Shows that you belong. All the comments I read (and I've taken the time to read most of them) tell me that people know you and appreciate your involvement, with one of th ebiggest being that you're making people aware of the extent of what happened. Your initial preparations, the typhoon itself, through your travels throughout the island, and the way your spirits rise when you know that finally, you are not doing this recovery on your own, speaks volumes. Kudos to you all (including your landlady)

The country's situation is really difficult right now. People can't go anywhere without being reprimanded on they're vaccine situation. One can't enter malls and do the usual stuff without the jab. It is best that we rely on what nature will give us. Talbos ng kamote, alugbati, pancit-pancitan are some of the vegetables which are easy to grow. It only takes days and you can harvest from it. Jay and Sacha, you will become a little braver in life guys after experiencing some traumatic experience like typhoon, floods and even earthquake. Some day if you will experience the same you know already what to do and you can prepare for it. I admire your positive behavior Jay and Sacha and you show us that even your new to that experience still you manage to survive it like most Filipinos do. Back there in the island your struggling without having electricity while here abroad were so worried again with the rising cases of omicron and delta cases and we don’t know when this nightmare will end. Stay healthy and safe you guys. We keep you in our prayers too and all those affected people of the typhoon❤️😇🙏🏼

Super glad you're feeling positive again about living in the island. Your vlogs bring so much joy and hope to typhoon Odette survivors. Also, I couldn't help but noticed that Story looks so grown up now! Such a cutie ❤️ Take care guys!
We're very hopeful all will get be back slowly but surely. Thank you for keeping us in the know of your situation. You look a bit more relieved now, Mary Jane's arrival definitely helped. Story has grown so much more! She is very brave, thanks to your love and affection, she's adapting to this awful mother nature blast. Love you guys AND Poppy!
It is amazing to know how Batanes people can cope with frquent strong storms in their islands. Their houses are made of stone but the roof I think are made of very thick nipa .. maybe .. not sure what is the exact material for their roofs.
Bamboo trees are what they need to plant And use it some day good resource for indoor and outdoor as fence, door, bence, couch, display cabinet, school projects and many more you could built or use it for. Same with those coconut trees that are toppled.
maybe a vegetable garden. Kamote (sweet potato) grows fast although the tubers grow slow but you at least have some greens and you can turn it into a juice/tea by boiling the fresh leaves
I had planned to visit Siargao for rest and recreation, in January, but that’s not to be so anymore. Or maybe I will once the hotels are up and running, and when non essential travel is allowed again. Maybe I’ll say hi to the Eight Milers! Keep safe everyone in Siargao!!!
Papang might want to entertain the idea of diversifying the crops that he will grow in lieu of coconuts. Aside from bananas, he might want to allocate a few acres to short-term crops those that can be harvested in 45-60 days. Many vegetable varieties are in this category. He just has to match which vegetable is compatible with the kind of soil in his farm. Having produce in such a short time is a good psychological boost for everyone.
So glad to see you recovering from that trumatic experience you will tern more about nature and life story will grow with love and values..God Bless Siargao and the people of Siargao! Keep safe
It's going to take time, but you've already made such amazing progress. I really enjoy seeing how you interact with the locals; just shows you what a cooperative bunch you all are. P.S Poppy is so cute and she clearly loves her human family. Sending abundance from Portugal.
Finish watching 8MFH vlog, I'm happy to see everyone on happy mood including puppy and Papang Family... I'm glad to say with laughter that i watched all 4 longest commercial without skipping... That's okay for Love of Story... Stay safe & Healthy 8MFH families around the world 🇵🇭✌️❤️👍
Seeing this beautiful family feeling "normal" and happy makes us all happy too. I'm glad that things are getting better slowly but surely. I know it's easier said than done but maybe the island should start building sturdier homes like brick homes or at least cemented walls instead of wood. I know the costs is a lot more but if you have to go against typhoons like these it may just be worth it. Maybe the island should upgrade.
First of all, we love supporting your channel and the love/admiration you have for the Filipino people. I just hope that you've learned from the traumatic/devastating events you've experienced. A typhoon does not come out of nowhere like an earthquake (you do know that Philippines is prone to that too, right?)...it gives you an ample amount of time to prepare for it. Using a whole sheet of plywood to cover all the windows(using screws...not nails) will provide protection. Storing canned goods/drinking water as soon as a typhoon is predicted to hit the islands is a must (Invest on a generator). Purchase a few tie down straps to secure your water tank. BTW typhoon season goes on for a few months, so don't be surprised if another one comes your way. Anyway, more power to your family for sticking around and helping re-build.
I'm so happy everybody back again..started fixing the mess of typhoon Odette.. devastated everybody move on and started fixed their property..God will secure your Life now and keeping Safe..to God be the Glory.. God bless you always Amen And Amen 🙏🏾

Your happiness makes my heart glad. I love you guys. You will rebound much stronger and better. Blessings always! ♥️🇦🇬
It is amazing to know how Batanes people can cope with frquent strong storms in their islands. Their houses are made of stone but the roof I think are made of very thick nipa .. maybe .. not sure what is the exact material for their roofs.
Love watching you, guys! Your positivity is quite contagious even on this dreary days! Thanks for not abandoning the islands!
Im so happy to see your family smiling again after the typhoon❤️❤️. Thats filipino resilience means. God bless..
Good to find you all are well there and the coconut started to grow their leaves.
Siargao is paradise !! 🏝☀🌊
Bamboo trees are what they need to plant
And use it some day
good resource for indoor and outdoor as fence, door, bence, couch, display cabinet, school projects and many more you could built or use it for. Same with those coconut trees that are toppled.
maybe a vegetable garden. Kamote (sweet potato) grows fast although the tubers grow slow but you at least have some greens and you can turn it into a juice/tea by boiling the fresh leaves
Have a stock of plywoods for your windows just in case another storm arrives. Everybody loves you, J, S n S. Stay safe and happy.
It's nice to see you all smiling and looking forward to help rebuild the communtiy there. Thank you.
I love how the family loves Puppy!

Learning like the Filipinos.
Woww creatures very nice. Hello baby pretty girl. God bless you all. Poppy very happy too
I had planned to visit Siargao for rest and recreation, in January, but that’s not to be so anymore.
Yeah good idea J and Sachca should start a vegetable garden to be more self sufficient in troubled times.
So glad to see you recovering from that trumatic experience you will tern more about nature and life story will grow with love and values..God Bless Siargao and the people of Siargao! Keep safe
Thanks for not leaving siargao island 🙏🙏😍😍 this place so amazing to stay forever. Stay safe guys best regards...
Stay safe & Healthy 8MFH families around the world 🇵🇭✌️❤️👍
Yes me too no skipping
Being so optimistic helps a lot to rebuild again siargao and your family are gonna part of this. You inspired us. We cant wait for more vlogs. Love u all & god blessed all of you.
The idea of bananas is wonderful! Many prayers and good thoughts for your family.
