    I know the emulation isn't perfect, I'm hoping it'll be updated (I cannot fathom why they didn't just contract M2 to do this) but I get to play Tails Adventures on my PS4 on the big TV, and that makes me very happy

    I think when Michael Jackson was still around, he had zero issues with Sega using the tracks, im only guessing with how often we saw Sonic 3 only 15 plus years ago getting re released, and it seemed like it wasn't untill after MJs passing that there was suddenly issues. I thibk that makes sense as MJ always seemed very fond of Sega since they did work together for years, seeing Sega making games on MJ, MJ appearing in Sega ads, MJ likely helped with some of the music in Sonic 3 and MJ also appearing in both Space Channel 5 games as well as a few little Mj references in the games.
    So thats my assumption is who ever currently holds the rights is probably harder to play ball with.
    If Sega didnt try doing it years ago they really should had tried buying the rights for the tracks from MJ so they didnt have to worry about issues like this, surely they knew this woukd eventually have happened.

    The sound comes down to weird stereo/mono shenanigans. I noticed that on the Switch at least, you can go into your system's settings and change the output to mono and it sounds perfect. Very weird.
    But aside from that issue and the weird vertically stretched aspect ratio, these emulations are surprisingly good, which is something I did NOT expect from a game that was originally released as an unfinished $40 beta last year which STILL has some glaring issues today [the ruined speed and audio sync of Sonic CD's beautifully restored and remastered ending causes me physical pain]

      @non_one_c ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, switching the consoles sound output to Mono fixes it entirely.
      You can toggle the system audio to mono on Xbox One and Series consoles just fine too.
      On PS5 there's an accessibility option to have mono output through headphones only and PS4 is lacking this feature unfortunately.
      Also Switch users keep in mind that there's separate options for Handheld and TV Speakers. And don't forget to switch it back once you're done playing!

    Sega never had the rights to Sonic 3 music, it was licensed specifically for Sonic 3. As long as they were simply re-releasing Sonic 3 exactly the same as it used to be, it was OK. So they could re-sell the rom and not have to re-license anything. But the moment they wanted to re-make it, like in Origins, they have to make sure they own everything. Brad Buxor likely asked Sega the moon, and Sega couldn't afford it.

    The Sonic Game Gear games were playable in Sonic Adventure DX and could be unlocked by doing missions/collecting emblems.

    I'm personally very happy with Game Gear in this collection. Sure the audio issue is annoying but fixable by switching to mono.
    Just having the ability to play these games on any Xbox in the house is a godsend. Especially Tails Adventure and Tails' Skypatrol.
    Last time I played these was on PS2 and I really missed them.
    I also really love Sonic Chaos but I own that for my SEGA Master System!

    I’ve just come across this channel, and, I gotta say, it’s refreshing to hear a review of these ports from a clear Game Gear aficionado. Most other reviews I’ve seen of Origins Plus aren’t as educated as this one. Plus, it’s just nice to see the Game Gear getting some love from people like you. Subbed 💙

    Do agree including the master system versions would have been the better call - and should be within Origins. But maybe they'll add them to the Advanced collection???? (Please Sega)

    Just want to point out that this isn't the first time that the main 16 bit Sonic games have been ported from the ground up. The Sonic Jam collection on the Saturn had fully ported Saturn version of the games that were not emulation. Then there's also the fact that the Sonic Origins versions of these games are just the remastered mobile versions from a decade ago done by Christian Whitehead(With the exception of S3&K).

    I just wish they added the Master System versions as well. A few of the Game Gear games played better that way. Then there is Knuckles Caotics that I would just like to see in some way that does not involve a 32x.

    This is going to sound weird, but I wish Sega acknowledged that some of these games sucked. If someone knows nothing about Gamegear games, they could pick the “wrong” one or two games to try out and assume that Gamegear games in general are bad. Point people to the better games to play first, and only play the others afterwards as historical curiosities.

    I didn’t realize they changed half of the music in Sonic 3, and I was incredibly disappointed. In fact, had I known they done that I may have not purchased the game. It’s insane to me tbh… SEGA was cutting corners.

    I love the Game Gear games but hate how they were inplemented... plus some games would be better if they would have made the master system versions available... like seriously, Sonic 2 is a good game, but when played on the master system. Also basically no quality of life updates... just basic emulation.

      @@supergearland lol I got a few tips for the next time you play:
      1. Small spindashes are the “key” to success
      2. For bosses just try to spin dash at full force to bounce off walls and get a few hits in
      3. I personally start out with 10 lives for a comfortable experience knowing I won’t game over
      If you use these I feel like you’d like the game maybe a bit more lol, but then again I enjoy Sonic Spinball 8-bit and I’ve 100% Sonic Blast like 20 times so idk lol

  • @marx4538
    @marx4538 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Master System version of Sonic 2 is inferior. It has the water visuals completely broken in Aqua Lake 2, the boss behaviors are all unfinished and can be beaten with barely any effort, some of the music is missing and it features a broken speed shoes monitor in Aqua Lake 2 for no reason, in addition to having more glitches and oversights. Screen size really doesn't matter when the game is entirely about memorization. It would have been nice to include Master System version as an option, but they are not superior, especially since the other Master System versions also suffer from a lack of polish. I wish SEGA at least bothered with the emulation, however. That audio issue is embarrassing.
    -Also Blast is better than Triple Trouble and Triple Trouble is garbage-
