I have used Camtasia, OBS & Premier Pro a LOT.
    OBS:
PROs: Fantastic for streaming PLUS I can use the live feed as a webcam source. Great for use with Zoom, Teams, etc...
Cons: Outputs all sources as a single video source. It will separate the Audio sources, but not the video sources. (A work around is to run multiple instances of OBS for various feeds, but this is very wonky and doesn't always work right. Plus syncing everything in post is a nightmare.
    Camtasia:
Pros: Dead simple to use to record. Saves every source in a separate audio and video source.
Cons: The webcam feed is SUPER small so it is hard to see what you look like on screen. While you can record natively in AVI, it is wonky and doesn't give reliable results.
    Camtasia Studio:
Pros: Editing is pretty simple. Lots of stuff to use as call outs, etc. Which are useful if you are creating web tutorials.
Cons: The audio controls are minimal to put it kindly. Noise Reduction (which is all but useless compared to Premier Pro), Audio normalization and fades. That is about it. No EQ, no nothing.
Green screen controls are OK. Not good, but just OK.
    Premier Pro:
Pros: Absolute tons of stuff you can do with your video and audio tracks.
Cons: The learning curve on figuring out what those tons of features can do, plus the monthly subscription source.
    Summary:
They all have their own niche.
Recording - Live streaming and webcam - OBS, hands down. Video tutorials - Camtasia, hands down.
Editing - Professional level control - Premier Pro, hands down. Quick & dirty screen tutorials - Camtasia, hands down.
    My dream world?
Recorder - The flexibility of OBS, the multiple outsources of Camtasia.
Editor - Drag and drop editing features of Camtasia Studio and the professional level of micro-tweaks of Premier Pro.
Give me something that does all of that, and I would pay any price.

This is a great summary! I agree with all your points. I'm liking OBS more and more as I get used to it. Never thought about the multiple output thing, but honestly one of the reasons I tried it was so I would just do all the switching on the fly and not have to edit in post.
That said, I find I get the best quality by recording my "face" direct to camera, audio direct to an audio recorder, and screen capture separately using Camtasia or OBS. But then there's the pain of syncing everything in post and cutting everything up.
Have you tried Multi-cam in Premiere? It makes having multiple sources a little easier to switch between.

For the drag and drop editing features try using resolve and its free Also resolve has the same level as Premier Pro For the multiple outsources in OBS you can use NDI also there is obs virtual cam this will allow you to have multiple cams in OBS that you can control separately by putting them into different scenes or the same scene and hide the one you are not using currently and switching back to the one you want active at that particular time I use the NDI so that you can put zoom or other conferencing programs into obs also it is good to use if you want to have your cell phone as a cam in obs then you can have a webcam that is portable on the go for free moving scenes

In my opinion camtasia can record screen better than OBS. Less pixelated images on camtasia instead of OBS

  • @TristanDurand
    @TristanDurand หลายเดือนก่อน

    Takeaway:
OBS burns all video and audio in one track, not multiple sources
Camtasia records separate tracks which makes it possible to edit them individually in post, Camtasia is the way to go if you want to hide the webcam view or mute microphone a certain

Thanks for the video. I am however unable to find the "lock to application" option anywhere in the Camtasia demo. The record window that shows in the demo is completely different than the one in this tutorial and I have been unable to find the same "Capture Effects Tools Help" little window within which the "lock to application" option was found and engaged in the above video. Any suggestions?

Snagit is good to. Wayyyy more faster to record usable mp4 files than Camtasia. Only issue is that it records at a variable frame rate.

I just bought Camtasia 2020 a couple weeks ago and LOVE it. I have tried other video editing packages in the past and gave up within an hour. Camtasia seems 1000% more intuitive than anything else I have tried making it super easy to learn. Anyway, I saw that you set up the ability to annotate live vs doing it all in editing. How did you do that, I can't find it.
    Thanks

While you're recording, you should see a button called "ScreenDraw" on the Camtasia toolbar. That will let you draw on screen

I have camtasia 8.6 ... learning it ... considering upgrading to 2020? Thoughts anyone? I'm enjoying (hard to stay patient of course) this camtasia "adventure" and kept seeing / hearing references to OSB. Now I see why "gamers" are all about it. We do instructional / marketing vids. The only issue we have so far is with chromakeying or green screen. I have a Logitech C 920, maybe results with a camera would be different ..?, I believe it's about control over the lighting. Experimenting with a black screen at the moment as that would possibly work for us at present, but it would be "nice" to be able to have whatever background we want at any given time in the future. Cool video. Liked.

I was upgrading Camtasia for several years, but stopped upgrading after version 9 I think. I've been using it less now that I've developed a good workflow for OBS.

Hey one more question.. I just bought a green screen to use on the web cam but when I record the screen and web cam simultaneously in Camtasia I can't figure out how to apply a custom background to just the webcam. Am I missing something simple? I appreciate any help. I checked your video library but didn't see any other Camtasia turorials.

    • @onlinebusinesstech
      @onlinebusinesstech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Well you can key out the background, but I'm not sure if it's possible to replace the background automatically. You probably have to manually place a rectangle or image behind the webcam track.

Hi everyone, I've used Camtasia, Snagit and OBS for my tutorials.
Camtasia is just awful. Incredibly slow, every file you record must be then exported through Camtasia studio which takes way too long. End video is not even that crisp or sharp. Can't record at 4k.
Snagit rocks, fast and easy. Press a button, it snaps into place what you're recording, so simple. On top of that you can save directly as an mp4. Only problem is it records at a variable bit rate. Can match up to 30 FPS but it's not perfect.
OBS is great. High frame rate, can do 4k, feature rich.
Personally I use both Snagit and OBS.

I've used Camtasia for years and always struggle with the framerate the video camera records at. Camtasia has not fixed this problem and in Support has recommended recording the camera separately. Ugh. It drove me to switch to OBS -- much smoother camera video.

In OBS when you open one note in your scene you can add a window capture to the scene in the drop down from the window capture menu select Microsoft one note and then it will ask you to name it what you want and then it will be added to your scene
