I wonder how many times Damian or Tim wiped out in the rotating hallway trying to perfect that section of the video!
OK Go always cheers me up. I always think their "behind the scenes" videos will make things clear, and nope ... trying to keep track of everything that's going on nearly makes my head explode. LOL And I'm only watching! I can't even imagine how nerve-wracking it must be for the people in the videos, having to get from Point A to Point B in two seconds (without tripping!) so you're not the one to mess up an entire take.
+violetxoxox I think that we have to give a lot of credit to the steady-camera man that made the long sequence shot. The steady cam is really heavy and he has to do all of that without fucking up once XD
Foc4ccin4
Absolutely. I've spent countless hours on the video site, watching how each individual station was done, and the complexity is jaw-dropping. It's hard enough for a single person to get through a long-shot without messing up, but to coordinate so many people working in tandem is astounding.
violetxoxox
Oh yes the whole crew did a great job, I just tend to appreciate steady camera mens after trying a steady cam for 5 minutes, the back pain was just real. And I imagine this took plenty of takes with extra sgadgets on the steady cam to make it rotate.

Oh, whoops, this comment wasn't even on the video I thought it was! In my notifications, I was only able to see "OK Go - Behind the Scenes of the Red Sta," so I thought this was the behind-the-scenes video for the red square station segment for the "The Writing's On The Wall" video. LOL (That's the site I spent hours on, watching how each station was done. Steady cam through that one, too, sometimes with Damien carrying it. There's even more going on in that video than in this one. It's intense! But then, all their videos are.)
how
This is the kind of stuff that makes me want to be a director.
God, I love OK Go.
The spinning room is absolutely fantastic!!
That's so cool
***** Oh man, good to see you here!
What brings you to this vid? Though you were gonna show up in domino vids lol
Then everyone'd be like "WHOA HEY LOOK IT'S HEVESH5" haha
I am such a big Giant ENORMOUS fan of you...
Oh hi Hevesh5
Would love to know some of the stats for this.
How long did it take to set up?
How many practice run throughs did it take?
How many "real" runs did it take until you had one that worked?
Also... super props to the cameraman. Holy shit that must have been crazy.
I love these illusion sequences and transformations!!
Wait, so the camera DID NOT rotate with the room? Wasn't it less practical to do it post production?
Edit: I now see that the camera does rotate inside the round frame. I was wondering what that huge thing was for. This just became 2x more awesome.
***** The camera does rotate inside the camera frame, if you pay attention to it.
It's never cool to lose your frame ratio. But it's incredibly cool to have such a nice crane :)
1:49 u can see the camera rotating
***** the camera itself was in its own centrifuge. it did rotate at near the same speed as the room.
How would they walk on the walls, duh
1:42 - 2:00 Ok Go went in the Inception room. (inception noise)
oh my god i can't wait to see this on tv. Living abroad has it's perks aha
I am always aware of the amazing talent of the camera people in these kinds of videos. Fantastic job!
Still dont get the PHYSICS of the shot of the Rolling House @1:44
If the camera stayed straight, while the house was turning, then you should see the house turning around [with the lamps going form top to bottom for example].
Did they stabilize the footage so that the house/corridor stays straight all the time? [probably gotta shoot @4k or more for that so the edges of the frame wont be show [gotta zoom in the footage] hmmm
+eladbari The round cage around the camera allows it to rotate, so while the room is rotating the camera is also rotating even though the camera operator is not. Keep a close eye on the camera at 1:56 and you will see it rotating. Make sense?
Corey Wilson hey buddy! thanks for sharing your thoughts :]
As hard as i try to look again at that scene, no. I dont see any rotating camera. The camera is on a Steadicam which is attached to the cameraman at All times. And the cameraman does not rotate with the building [if he was-they'd have to tie him down to rotate alongside that corridor's floor, so the camera will always match the floor at its bottom. But it doesnt happen.
Watch this scene again and youll see.
+eladbari You can see the camera rotating at 1:49
+CaptainMcSmoky Holy shit. excuse me, as i was not expecting that!
Now i see that little rounded cage of the camera and how it turns, while i was expecting the camera to be secured to the ground so its physically rotating with the whole stage!
I think this is quite Nuts! I mean, how did they operate the timing and the rotation's speed so perfectly alongside the floor?
Gotta be computerized somehow, otherwise you would see the camera and the floor of that corridor mismatch while in motion. That's pretty nuts and amazing altogether :]
+eladbari There was an interview with the op I believe. they shot in 5k and edited in 4k so they could fix small errors in rotation in post, but the rotation was just very carefully synced.
Wow I can't believe you guys hid all those behind the scenes cameras in there along with all the general craziness already in the video! There's definitely some strange pseudo-cut or image stabilization going on after the rotating hallway segment though right? That zoom in on the bed feels off.
It's not a zoom, the camera moved back while the chair moved forward, so they both look like neither moved.
Actually, its a specific thing you can do with a camera. I cant remember what its called, i heard about it from a vsauce video :-P
Rice Curry I believe it's called a Dolly zoom: moving the camera closer while zooming out an equal rate (or vice versa). That may be what's happening here, perhaps with some image stabilization on top since this is hand held.
thats probably it.
+Jaqen I don't think they hid them during the filming, they just did one run to show what they did for the behind the scenes. You could see it was clearly not the original video with the movements they were doing.
天啊!太棒了!👏👏👏
Good god these things are complicated, so much effort!
Downloading say the same thing app while watching the behind the sceens video. All this just after watching the music videos. Just Love It.
Holy shit. I just have to give credit where credit is due. This is fucking ART. OK Go lives up to the name that they've made for themselves, and I appreciate the shit out of it.
And holy crap, that cameraman is a trooper.
Блестяще, впрочем, как всегда)
Amazing work and video, also like every your videos)
> notices the hanzi "马来西亚" besides "Julius Mak" in credits
> checks back credits for ad
> "Julius Mak" is art director
> Art director (and several crew members involved), Malaysian
> *MALAYSIA BOLEH*
jakmanxyom I noticed that too. Cool international effort. China, Taiwan (or Chinese Taiwan as credited in the video), Malaysia, and of course U.S.A.
jakmanxyom :)
OMG... They did it again!
awesome work! thanks for sharing.
I cant wait for another great work of yours ! awesome stuff ! ! !
Amazing!
Ребята просто молодцы !!!
毎回 素晴らしい!! 感動
00:10 Not to tell you your business or anything, but you need to update your Adobe products.
Cameraman did a hell of a job
1:02 Tim opens his arms in the video on the bottom but not in the shot they show in this bts video...
KingOfBelgium They use two different shots. It's possible they used an earlier take for the BTS so they had that footage and could have that camera person doing something else.
Furniture! Okay. I thought they were advertising for drugs.
Ok, why is the dude at 1:32 wearing a fully loaded backpack? He couldn't put it down somewhere? What is his role?
He is wearing weights to equal the weight of the Steadicam Operator so when the operator (me) steps on the crane, he steps off as the crane needs to balanced for easy operating (think see-saw).
@@alecjarnagin9041 Thanks for the explanation!
1:03 Why are the two shots different?
+Matthew Lewis Follow the whole thing carefully and you can see a lot of movements which are not the same. I think its just that the behind the scenes was from a different take (possibly several different takes) to the version they used for the real final take.
Wait a second, you made the music video in Japan but you made the ad for a Chinese company 😂
was shot in Shanghai
*IT **_WAS_** A FUCKING ROTATING ROOM*
*_I KNEW IT_*
Nice safety squints at 0:20
Pretty cool
so dope.
are they using cinema4d ? for previz ? someone let me know..please.. ?
Good Team. I like it.
Spinning room. People will say that this had to have been done in multiple takes, that it was soo fake. 25% will look for the behind the scenes.
The camera man.... That rig... that has to be exhausting.
+MOEments Photography Lookup what it takes to be a Steadicam operator sometime. The training is extensive to the point where you never see a skinny op, they gotta have insane stamina.
How is this better than the actual commercial?
Great
tf at 1:56 and 1:02
it didn't match the final cut
look at his arms
Also at the start
1:02 wait what? tim has a ghostly spirit i think
Guy on the left screwed up at the end.
это так круто! хочу увидеть в живую)
and now I can sleep easy.
There is 2 diffrent videos by the way
Genius
21 flights?
does that mean 21 Pilots?
Oh, come on. Obviously there are almost always two pilots on one plane.
those are co-pilots, shhhh
Philae ESA On longer flights there are up to four pilots on one plane.
Where was Red Star Macalline? Mainland China, Taiwan or Hong Kong?
This video needs more dogs, then it'd be perfect. ^.^
:P
I think that OK GO takes second or multiple takes for bts.
1:00 he dosn't move o_o
THOU SEEKETH OKGO POWER DOES THOU NOT? THEN TOUCH THE DEMON INSIDE ME
the bts is more awesome xD
You can really see the difference between a Japanese production and a Chinese one. You decide where I'd go with that if I didn't want to incur the wrath of a country with 1.4 billion people in it.
Damn... This is exhilerating
