Hey man, 3 years later I just purchased this bike rack. I did NOT know that this rack allows for an additional two bike racks to create a 4 carry. That is amazing and it lets me know I Picked the right rack. The two other videos I’ve watched did not include that info. I was considering the Thule XT rack but it was more costly and doesnt hold up well from the sun. Anyway great video and right to the point. Thanks.
The lower tray assembly should be the one with the large Yakima sticker. The other test assembly has a sticker that will display upward when the track is closed and towards cars behind you when the track is open.
I have a Tiguan and am looking at this rack too! I noticed you didn't show it tilted down with bikes with the trunk open. Does the trunk clear the handlebars when the bikes are on, in the tilt down position? Thanks!
Hi Jen, sorry I missed getting back to you sooner on this one. Unfortunately I am not able to open the hatch with the bikes on in the down position. There are other racks, I believe Yakima makes these too, that can actually pivot the bikes out of the way so that you can do exactly that and access your trunk space while the bikes are on, but they were significantly more expensive than what I was willing to pay, so we went with this one. I will say though, that this has not been an issue at all. With how quick we can get the bikes off (literally a matter of seconds), it's not a pain to get access to our trunk when we need to. Hi @Mini_Surf, I just went to the place recommended to us by the guys at the shop we bough the rack from. So I am actually not sure what the brand of the hitch that we had installed was. I do know that we bought the 2" rack so we had to get the 2" hitch installed. I would suggested just finding a place online in your local area who can install a hitch, they might have different options for you or will just have a standard hitch they install. Sorry I cant be of more help!
