My favorite part of the books upon this re-read has been the scenes in the classes! (Apart from Potions, I can't stand Snape's bullying). I love learning what the kids are learning - it makes me feel like I'm right there with them. Plus, we get to see a lot more of the teachers' and students' personalities in the classes.
I feel like we've gotten a lot more classroom scenes in this book (Divination, Care of Magical Creatures, and Defense Against the Dark Arts), and it's been wonderful!
I love that too! It's that context thing we see so much more of. The more context we get of what's going on, the more it feels like we're in the world. I totally agree! (And I agree, Snape is quite the turd ... I mention this in the next vid, hehe ... admitting as a Snape fan 🤣
Ok second thought, when you guys were talking about the thestrals inconsistency, which I totally agree with you...I have always thought about JKs writing process, like did she have the whole story in her head or did it evolve as she wrote. I think some of her magical rules change to fit what she wants to happen in the story so we end up with a lot of inconsistencies.
I feel the same. I didn't get the sense she had it fully fleshed out and did what you're talking about, of adapting it to fit those inconsistencies. 🤷🏼♀️

Me too! The books make it make sense. With the movies, they really have no development, that it feels forced.

Here we go 😁 the ministry cars, I love the illustrations in both Jim Kay and Minalima of the cars which makes them feel so important and the green velvet suits 😍😍 I also noticed the quick nod to Harry and Ginny building a relationship.
I’m on a lot of books groups on Facebook and I get so jealous when people say they are reading the books for the first time! I would love to read them and not know what happens next.
I have noticed the repetition of explanations but thought it might be for anyone reading the book as a standalone so they know what’s happening.
The wicker basket I imagined as a cat box made of wicker wood. It will be interesting to see it in the series.
Lupin in the train. This time of reading I have wondered if he was actually awake and made sure that no one else could sit in the carriage so it had to be Harry. The only issue with this scene I have is that his professor sign is worn in his suitcase but he’s only just become a professor.
Loved the Jim Kay picture of the Sneakascope. Ron is definitely becoming one of my favourite characters on this reread. He is as you say, so protective but also notices things that no one else does.
I think of Ginny as friends with Luna, as they are in the same year ( but different houses) so I always imagine she goes off to sit with her.
I imagine Neville was probably tricked into talking about what happened in the carriage rather than him gossiping or being malicious. Ginny really struggled with the dementors as she had been through a terrible experience and they make you remember your worst times.
I think when the books were written it was widely accepted (in the UK anyway) that young children were not impacted by very early childhood experiences. Of course , we now understand that a child, even younger than one, would have long term damage from their experiences but this was not understood in the 90’s and maybe this is why Rowling figured that Harry would not see the thestrals after the death of his parents.
I also noticed the carriages were described as closed.
I wonder how far back you can actually go with a time turner so they may have been useless for Dumbledore to use.
I love Sir Cadogan he is such a funny character and I love the fact they have to climb up a ladder to go through a hole in the ceiling to get to Divination. I’m off to the Warner bros studio soon and they have the Divination theme so that’s exciting!
I have some theories about Trelawney and her skills. She is widely underrated and her premonitions often become reality. All the students who reacted to the mention of the Grim were I think those that grew up in the Wizarding world and knew the legends about them.
It’s interesting that Buckbeak is not the only Hippogriff but I guess, like many other characters, that we really get to know and care about him in the books as there is so much more interaction with him. The ride on Buckbeak would be so scary! Imagine pulling his feathers out, just after he injured a student 😳
The interaction with Lupin and Peeves I think gives us some background on Lupin and encourages some respect of him. The part with Snape in the staff room shows how nasty Snape is to Neville and makes his boggart seem even more funny but also strengthens Neville’s character.
Pansy is a fan girl who love Draco but she does not end up marrying him. I think he makes a better choice when he has had a chance to grow up and away from his family.

I'd thought the same thing about Lupin, as far as actually being awake, but it still irked me that he waited (if awake) to for the dementors to start sucking the soul out of Harry. Though I suppose that's then true of the book too.
I love that idea of thinking of Ginny with Luna. I can totally see that! We just hope, with the show, they make it flow better and feel more actual, by showing her (and others who would presumably be there but have more of a part in the story later) in the background.
I guess our point on the thestrals is if even if Harry isn't impacted, he should still see them because the logic behind thestrals wasn't if you saw death and were impacted. It was just if you saw death. And the way she wrote it, I was always under the impression he saw his parents die (particularly his mother). We even get scenes of him remembering it. To that matter we get scenes of him remembering it and being impacted by her screams. So she really lost us with that one logically.

I not sure exactly how this works but wasn't Harry's familys house hidden, like Grimwald place by magic and can only be found if you get a code from the secret keeper, which is why Wormtail sold them out because they made him the secret keeper???
Yeah, I looked it up when I was editing and, truthfully, it still does not make enough sense to me. Perhaps in the text it will help, but I have my doubts, hahaha
Ya, this was one of those things I was talking about in Discord where, when I was reviewing this video whet 'oooooh' after being reminded of things in the next chapters but I agree with Matt, I still struggle to understand that part.

Mine be wormtail cause I thinks between slytherin and gryffindor being. Spy or deatheater also great person cause he bit good in.him when he was at school so don't he meant to betray his friends just scared
