I own the 2023 Roque and agree with your brutally honest review. Its great as a work UTE but really crap family/lifestyle vehicle, especially when you compare it to the Ranger. Dropping tyre pressures on the Hilux does help to remove some of the harshness and makes it more liveable but not ideal for tyre life and handling.
My hilux has a beautiful ride quality. I don't get all these comments about it being rough. It's soo comfy and I do long distances and it's very relaxing and effortless.
Looking at the mileage of used utes, most Hilux owners/ fleet vehicles will be at the dealership every 3-4 months for servicing. Also that interior is every part of 2012.
The most pointless spec ever… They should really focus on a next gen update. That interior is horrible and the reverse camera has the same quality as a $20 phone, And to top it off it drive like it’s on cut springs. Whoever still buys a new Hilux has more money than sense.
After seeing what Mitsubishi did to the new triton with all the driver annoyance and environmental junk they added I rushed out and purchased a rogue. I will be picking it up next week hopefully. Personally I this this years hilux may end up a real gem when it comes to resale as people look to upgrade later and work out its the last chance to dodge all the rubbish that manufacturers are being forced to bolt onto utes.
@@tanmupps5997 Will never own another ford inside warranty. A ford warranty is not worth anything. DMAX (and BT50) were actually on the menu but prefer the Hilux.
Can't afford it so not much that troubles me about this. Thanks for the review - it shows why the challenger brands are increasingly visible on the road.
I live in the bush and the new ford rangers struggle under Australian conditions out in the deserts. Hilux are the best utes in Australia and resale is alot better then ford amorok Nissan Mazda etc plus Toyota's comprehensive car insurance from there dealers are legitimately exactly what you need.
You can mostly tell when city slickers review a serious Toyota 4WD, because they always go on about other brand options, which most serious off road 4WD, farmers, rural tradies and serious remote touring adventurers would never consider, and for good reasons. Like reliability, accessory options and a strong nation wide support network, like Toyota has. They get sucked in by all the mod cons that the competition flaunts at cheaper prices, rather than the more serious issues as I just mentioned, because they just don't get it. It's as if they are reviewing a standard 2WD on road vehicle.
Toyota Japanese build, Ford Thailand built, GWM Chinese built. I know which one I would take! Reliability and resale you can’t beat Toyota. So many issues with the Ford that’s never much talked about and there after sales service is disgusting, I know people who are going through hell!! If you are serving a diesel more than 10,000kms I’d be worried.
Pardon the ignorance, but is it more comfortable in the back seat? I’ve been on the fence between this and the Ranger Wildtrak with the intention of going on interstate trips with my wife and two kids, but two mechanic friends have suggested I buy the Hilux for reliability. Thoughts please?
My 3yo nicknamed the HiLux the “bumpy truck” for a reason…! She’s in a child seat and it still wasn’t cushy. If you’re only going to do 4 hours at a time, it might be fine. But any more than that, your kids might not see the fun in it anymore. What about a D-Max?
Extra complexity: yes - Pointless: no. It's undeniable that hybrids have lower fuel consumption. In some cases, the hybrid system also enables quicker "burst" acceleration. Is it worth the extra cost and complexity? That depends on how much you drive....
@@RodneyW Yes, I agree & was aware. The Difference in infortainment between this and a ranger?
This will be working still in 10 years.
Got 3,000 klms on mine and love it just like all the other Toyotas I have owned, there are no let downs after purchase
Just bought one extremely happy & doing road trip now in it.
SERIOUSLY Basic is best
All the OTHER 4x4s out there are too Car like .
Give me a RELIABLE Hilux any day and nothing comes close to RESALE

Did you drive any other utes?
Go test drive a new Ranger and you’ll get it ;)
Most farm tractors are more comfortable
It í not comfy since it uses leaf spring compare to spring spiral
If you brought a Hilux, you are too dum to notice the ride quality.

Why not just buy an SR and spend the difference on modifying the car.

I want to fit the bull bar on my new Hilux (this model), Any suggestions? Which brand is the best and fits?
If they only had an option of an sr or sr5 spec with the wide track format.
Would sell like hotcakes in Aus!
It would be nice if they added this hybrid starter option to the 2 door gas Tacoma for the North American market.
I’ll get Akio on the blower
