Toyota HiLux 48V Hybrid V-Active 2024 review - Rogue 4x4 (inc off-road)

- Is it really a HYBRID ute? No. But it is electrified and it uses less diesel than the standard one! Subscribe here: / @therightcar
It still has a 2.8L turbo-diesel engine, with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system integrated into the powertrain to aid it in stop-start traffic, with a multi-mode stop-start system to help recharge the battery pack.
The battery drives a belt-driven motor generator that can assist the engine, and help use less fuel in urban driving, too.
There are some other changes that I'll cover off in this review, including interior changes and payload considerations, but watch along -- and see if you think the new MTS (Multi Terrain System) from the 300 Series having been added is worth the extra money, too!

#toyota #hilux #review - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Just bought one extremely happy & doing road trip now in it.
The most pointless spec ever… They should really focus on a next gen update. That interior is horrible and the reverse camera has the same quality as a $20 phone, And to top it off it drive like it’s on cut springs. Whoever still buys a new Hilux has more money than sense.
SERIOUSLY Basic is best
All the OTHER 4x4s out there are too Car like .
Give me a RELIABLE Hilux any day and nothing comes close to RESALE
Not bad if it was a 50k ute.
Is it worth 80k? Yeh, bahhhh m8.
Toyota are Rouges. My lawn mower is 50 volts.😊
Hahahahaha
I own the 2023 Roque and agree with your brutally honest review. Its great as a work UTE but really crap family/lifestyle vehicle, especially when you compare it to the Ranger.
Dropping tyre pressures on the Hilux does help to remove some of the harshness and makes it more liveable but not ideal for tyre life and handling.
Ha, thanks mate. Glad there are some realistic owners out there.
The Difference in infortainment between this and a ranger?
This will be working still in 10 years.
Toyota for ever!
Looking at the mileage of used utes, most Hilux owners/ fleet vehicles will be at the dealership every 3-4 months for servicing.
Also that interior is every part of 2012.
That would be inconvenient.
Can't afford it so not much that troubles me about this. Thanks for the review - it shows why the challenger brands are increasingly visible on the road.
After seeing what Mitsubishi did to the new triton with all the driver annoyance and environmental junk they added I rushed out and purchased a rogue. I will be picking it up next week hopefully. Personally I this this years hilux may end up a real gem when it comes to resale as people look to upgrade later and work out its the last chance to dodge all the rubbish that manufacturers are being forced to bolt onto utes.
you should have bought a ranger or dmax
@@tanmupps5997 Will never own another ford inside warranty. A ford warranty is not worth anything.
DMAX (and BT50) were actually on the menu but prefer the Hilux.
Good choice mate! I have one and recommend! The rogue is awesome.
When are you testing the JAC 4wd please
I want to fit the bull bar on my new Hilux (this model), Any suggestions? Which brand is the best and fits?
It would be nice if they added this hybrid starter option to the 2 door gas Tacoma for the North American market.
I’ll get Akio on the blower
Does the tonneau cover lock???
If they only had an option of an sr or sr5 spec with the wide track format.
Would sell like hotcakes in Aus!
Pardon the ignorance, but is it more comfortable in the back seat? I’ve been on the fence between this and the Ranger Wildtrak with the intention of going on interstate trips with my wife and two kids, but two mechanic friends have suggested I buy the Hilux for reliability. Thoughts please?
My 3yo nicknamed the HiLux the “bumpy truck” for a reason…! She’s in a child seat and it still wasn’t cushy.
If you’re only going to do 4 hours at a time, it might be fine. But any more than that, your kids might not see the fun in it anymore.
What about a D-Max?
@@therightcar ok thanks
My choice is the Alpha and enough money left in the bank to party.
I have never been in a 4x4 duel cab, so I cannot comment.
… but you commented.
Not on what matters, I admit I know nothing about them.
I have had both SR and SR5 (currently)
Why not just buy an SR and spend the difference on modifying the car.
Much better bang for your dollar.
Great point.
Exterior is still okay, but the interior is horrible.
Can you review the jeep gladiator, just curious 😊
I’ll get the updated one - ring the bell and you’ll be notified when it goes live!
You need to service every 6months or 3500 miles which ever comes first. Ignore the 10k advice
My hilux has a beautiful ride quality. I don't get all these comments about it being rough. It's soo comfy and I do long distances and it's very relaxing and effortless.
Did you drive any other utes?
Go test drive a new Ranger and you’ll get it ;)
Most farm tractors are more comfortable
It í not comfy since it uses leaf spring compare to spring spiral
If you brought a Hilux, you are too dum to notice the ride quality.
it looks great but these flares scratch & go grey im towing a caravan around Oz & want comfort on the tarmac that's why I bought another ranger if Ur spending 90% off-road get the rouge if not get the V6 Ranger the only ones that buy these hiluxes R the fan boys & girls they don't care it just has to a Toyota
BYD SHARK the BEST
It doesn’t even exist yet.
@@therightcar it will still be better than the Toy .
@@therightcar been in one here in NZ. BYD are taking orders, with pre xmas delivery. Makes the Toyota "hybrid" look like a POS. I'm a Toyota man but have to admit Toyota failed here. No extra power, no better economy. Just a half assed pretention.
i prefer the dmax or ranger to this. hiluxes are just overrated loads of crap
Mild or otherwise, any hybrid system is essentially pointless extra complexity.
Extra complexity: yes - Pointless: no. It's undeniable that hybrids have lower fuel consumption. In some cases, the hybrid system also enables quicker "burst" acceleration. Is it worth the extra cost and complexity? That depends on how much you drive....
@@RodneyW
Yes, I agree & was aware.
My "pointless" assessment reflected, that for me, the benefits were so minimal as not to compenstae for the extra cost (purchase & repair), complexity & weight penalties.
Like EVs, Hybrids seem best suited as small urban runabouts.
As Long as you are happy to sleep while they charge next to the kids bedroom, of course.
@@glenwillson5073 I took "pointless" literally. All good. I wouldn't buy a PHEV either. I'd consider a regular hybrid, where the weight penalty is lighter. That said, my old Mazda 2 is just under 1 tonne, drives beautifully in town, and is still very economical.
A REAL hybrid wouldve saved gas and given extra performance. Toyota failed on this one.
I hate stop start systems. I turn mine off every time i start my vehicle.
What a pointless review. Absolutely no detail on the actual technology involved or even popping the hood.
This is literally a gammen ad basically
You clearly didn’t watch up until “under the bonnet”. Please don’t shitpost on my videos.
@@therightcar lol I rewatched to see the under the bonnet section. 1 min 20 sec out of 27 minutes. no wonder I skipped passed it and didnt see it. Turns out the technology under the hood is as minimally innovative or interesting as this review. Calling it a hybrid is a bit like call an axe a 1/4 horsepower chainsaw. Gives me minimal confidence in Toyota given where technology and innovation is heading
why are all car reviews so insanely the same and boring. spending 25 minutes waxing lyrical over the most inane bs
