      Heavenly creator, we come before You today to ask for Your protection over all firefighters. Lord, as they face dangerous situations and risk their lives to save others, we pray that You would be their shield and defender. Keep them safe from harm and watch over them as they carry out their duties. Amen.

      There are at least 32 prisoner based fire camps with 4 or more crews per camp in California.

    • @dbyers3897
      @dbyers3897 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It takes time to deploy prison crews. The temperature is 110+. Putting people out in front of wildland fires without breathing gear & protection from flying embers might seem feasible to you but it sounds like a planned disaster to me. Firefighting requires training, supervision, & expensive gear otherwise you're just creating more potential casualties requiring rescue & resuscitation. Prison camp crews have their uses but they are limited.

      @@dbyers3897 I didn't mean put them out there on the Fire line...I meant before hand. Morning crews can be doing brush clearance everyday/week for months before fire season. I agree it's a Special person who becomes a fire fighter 👍

    Whilst not there, the air footage shows a simple case of a drip torch and use of a back-burn would have stopped it on the top side and ring in the rest from road edge, water only needed for blackening top side and mopping up. Not a criticism comment, just a suggestion of the old saying, fight fire with fire.

  • @paulsims9155

    Please understand this is the middle of nowhere. There are other huge fires.
    After all the rains from the winter, there is more brush than I've ever seen here.
    And you cam see it's windy. Fires can start from a trailer chain dragging to a down powerline. It's natural and brutal. I live an hour from this fire.
    Good luck to all involved!

  • @christophersmith5303
    @christophersmith5303 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    They stopped it and that is what counts. Grass fires like this are tailor made for water tankers with bumper nozzles. Wish we could have watched one of those work on this, but they knocked it down with what they had!

  • @gtbproductions1
    @gtbproductions1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

    One thing I have noticed is how poor the accuracy of LA county/City helicopters are vs contract helicopters. Look at the opening drop. WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT??? There needs to be some kind of rating system for accuracy, not close enough with an 80% miss to keep the fire going.

    • @wilsjane
      @wilsjane 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      They should drop the water onto the unburnt grass slightly downwind from the flames, thus forming a barrier to stop further spread. To the onlooker, this is not always obvious.
      Dropping the water onto the high flames looks good, but if they miss the edge it is pointless and the fire will continue to spread.

    • @dbyers3897
      @dbyers3897 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Rotor-wing aircraft are of limited use for firefighting under these conditions. Too hot & windy to be very effective. They are actually unnecessary at this incident. If this fire was in rugged terrain where ground crews had difficulty gaining access, then yes, they'd be of some use. The most effective aircraft have been the CL-415 "Super Scoopers" which can fill faster & deliver more water per hour than any other aircraft provided a suitable source is near. They were purposefully designed for aerial firefighting but very costly to purchase. Almost all other aircraft were adapted or converted to be used as air tankers. The AW139s purchased by LAFD are not a good choice for this role. Very costly to purchase, operate, & repair, complex to train pilots, & carry very limited quantities of water. The downwash from a large helicopter is considerable & helps to fan the flames as well as aerosolize the dropped water. Blow aerosolized water into an open flame (while outside) & see what happens. The water rapidly evaporates releasing oxygen from the H2O molecules. It has some cooling effect but it won't be noticeable in this intense desert heat. Dozers clearing wide breaks & large volume retardant drops ahead of a fire are about the most effective & efficient means of controlling fast-moving wildlland conflagration.

      @SurpriseCatastrophes 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you know why this leads to forest fires here?

    • @iJamezz
      @iJamezz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@wilsjanethey are much better off using fire retardant if they are going to do that. Unfortunately dropping water ahead of the fire most likely won't work, due to the hot convection column sweeping over the unburnt fuel ahead of the fire and causing it to dry out. I'm a new rural fire fighter in Australia (close to a year) and from my limited experience so far, it's so much harder keeping a fire out than you realise. I honestly can't believe how much water you need to put on something to keep it from taking off again.

      Water is the least effective means to fight wildfires! People need to start using liquid water+clay solution to stop wildfires. Liquid clay sprayed on top of fire prevents oxygen flow, retains water for a long time helping the surface to stay wet and it is a natural product with no harm to the environment!

    In Monterey county our CAL FIRE rigs were setup for mobile pumping operations where we had the plumbing setup with discharge nozzles on the full peripheray and allowed us to extinquish wheat field fires that move too fast to keep up with a flanking pincer movement so our engine's performed flanking by driving the engine and application of water at the dam moment to cool the Base the ignition point
    The US Marine Corps has a similar setup on the large outback gunner ranges set in the dry sage brush areas of Camp Pendleton on the Cleveland National Forest in Orange and San Diego county and use 1200 gallon deuce and a half Mobil pumping operations with huge nozzles setup to apply high volume hydrologic atmospheric steam conversion manual transmission fluid electrodynamically linked filing cabinet systems to cool the echo maps Fire records

    Engine 136 begins attacking the fire really fast what is good, but if it was me I would have started behind while still in the black.The way to put out a fire like this is in pump and roll or we never win,. This type of fire is fighted with a short hose and the vehicles always moving and to be more effective a little of foam small percentage 0,1%-0,3% just to wet better the grass this way we use less water and can stay fighting for longer time. This is the way we do it. If the fire is too intense we help with the front bumper turret. I like a lot to fight this fires.

      I see pulling maybe 100 ft hose by a single FF this is a mistake. We have a 6x6 with over 2000 gallons of water and 250 gallons of foam with bumper turret and roof monitor besides ground nozzles it would be the perfect pumper for this kind of fire, but even with type 1 is possible to do a good job ... now pulling. long extensions of hose doesn't work in this type of fires
