4.3 TBI trouble shooting the 89 s10

  • After I explain everything I've done with the engine over the last few months, I now have a bad shudder/vibration at low rpms, and also possible gas leaking into oil somehow. Either running rich or through rings. Ugh, always something!

    The squeaking sounds like a water pump, but also checked the pulley. They’re not that expensive. You got a nice truck.❤❤

    I enjoy your videos on your truck. I recently bought a 1989 gmc s15 v6 4.3. 56000 original miles. I'm doing everything I can to learn about it. it runs amazing. your truck is fantastic.

    Cool truck I'm also in WI. I use mine for grabbing lumber, mulch etc and I'd not want to use it as my daily. Hope your resolved everything I'm in SW WI.

    check your pcv valve too. also check the EGR valve and make sure its not leaking at idle .

    Keep fucking with it ! You will be driving it all the time. It's a racecar and an off-road super beast . I am figuring out a lot of stuff . I have a 4.3 91 s10 . I'm living in it most of the time in the Washington Cascades selling firewood out of the back .

    I have a 95 s10 with similar issues, vacuum leaks, fuel system issues, ignition issues the list goes on

    Awesome truck! Im picking up a 1990 s15 with a 4.3l i just gotta diag the crank no start on it and im super stoked. My first truck was an 85 s15 and ive loved these little trucks ever since

    It looks like you forgot to hookup the evap line to the front right on the tbi. Thats must likely why your smelling gas. There is an evap can on drivers side finder under headlight. There should be a vacuum line that runs from that can to the tbi. Just a heads up. By the way great work.

      Heat raiser vacuum. To air cleaner. Is what your seeing comes off with air cleaner..

      Behind thermostat housing, on the bottom right of throttle body, there's a small vacuum port nipple. That's what he's talking about. Not the heat risertube.

    a lot of people confuse mechanical noises (lifters) with the normal sound of the injector pulses

    I've had a lot of offers for my 90 s10 , little by little IAM finding parts at low cost on eBay ect... One day these blazers will be worth something like my VW bug I had..... it's all ways something but when you figure it out it's all worth the wait.

    You probably fixed it by now but I saw another s10 video about changing the flexplate\flywheel and it was mentioned that the wrong one was installed. So had a bad vibration due to balancing.

    I have that same engine in a 92 GMC van I just purchased and was researching it a bit...I'm in Wisconsin as well! Same 4 hours from Chicago....:))

    It can be a fleeing problem or that ya drive the truck short distances and ain't letting it warm up enough. And also it can be misfire somewhere.

    Man your truck is PINKED OUT LOL I got 2 s10’s myself. My 2.8 keeps shutting off after a while due to an electronical short. Blue wire that connects to injector rubbed on something

    fuel pressure regulator is going bad I had the same problem with my s10 4.3

      Kevin Ordoyne when I drive my 4.3 s10 I barley have to be pressing the gas peddle when I’m going at any mph and when Im driving and give it gas it goes then it accelerates a little more when I’m not wanting it to and my check engine comes on and off when I give it throttle could that be the fuel pressure regulator

      Albert Medina Probably the Throttle position sensor. Had the same problem

    I removed it when I took the air intake off to check the spray pattern on the injectors and other stuff around it. The vibration and shudder is still there though with it on or off. I should probably plug it with a golf tee when I remove that in the future to test things. I've decided to go ahead and put in a new distributor and intake manifold gasket. I doubt I have any problems with the manifold, but it's not too difficult to do and I can check out more things inside.

      PleaseDoNotLOL when i mentioned the temperature sender on lower right of block i failed to mention the wire going to it likes to break inside of the sheath from prolongd heat from exhaust manifold. it may look good but if u carefully wiggle wire around heat affected area u may feel the break. i cut mine off around the intake, ran a new wire and used the original terminal clip.

    oh yea, after egr passage is clear u can check the diaphragm (after it starts to shutter) by manually pushing it in. reach in holes in back& push. if it runs better change valve. also deccicant in receiver- dryer on air conditioner is a different size for the two systems so its proper to replace along with compressor. u may want to check temp sender on right side under exhaust manifold. good luck

    Try to avoid short run cycles, make sure the engine runs for at least 10 minutes and reaches operating temperature before shutting it off

    Burning isnt always bad, it can just mean running rich buuuut I would find out why cause to much richness for to long can cause engine problems burn rings and or valves.

    Take note of the injectors have a spray pattern with no drips .

    Check for vacume leak at points u took off when did t b change that plug . An make sure ur ideal is set to proper setting

    The chirp is a pulling loose or going bad. Also for awhile til you can fix that pulley you can use deoderants on the belt and itll go away for awhile believe it or not.

    Can someone tell me where the vacuum line goes from the black vacuum ball to somewhere behind the engine.if someone can post a pic it will really help

      ROC WICK if it’s a 4wd look for a transfer case breather hose. You’ll have a 3 wait connector attached to it and it should go there

    check ALL, EVERY, vacuum line and port you can find for any place it could leak. Also make sure egr valve moves freely. Lastly this might sound stupid but pull the return line off and try blowing through it. If its hard to blow through the line is clogged and will cause it to run very rich at idle or part throttle.

      Check crankshaft dampener the durometer rubber could be really cracked and letting the outer ring to move slightly throwing the engine balance off slightly

    when u give it throttle it sucks air from that open vacuum line, plug it! its causing a rich condition .
