  • I don't know about you, but I'm excited about these mounting bars for Ryzen 7000. They're inexpensive and designed to improve the heat transfer for AM5. I'll show you how they work, if they work, and whether or not you should bother with these.
    Offset Bars:
    AMB14 (D12L, L12S, L12 Ghost)

This is the best review video of the new offset brackets I have seen on youtube. Adding the visual indicators for the CCD's and the lines drawn on the bottom of the heatsink showing what's different was key.

My offset kit also arrived today. I'm using the NH-D15S with two fans and my results are basicly the same, 3-4C° better under load which puts it on par with my Arctic Freezer 280, but at a more pleasant noise level.
I also noticed that my main NVME temps went down by 5C°, maybe because the fan now sits more above the heatsink.
Overall for 5 bucks it's definitely worth it and both the NH-D15 and NH-15S still fit perfectly without touching the GPU or SSD heatsink on my Asus B650E-I, but the D15S has a little bit more clearance for big SSD coolers.

If heatpipe placement is the main affecting factor, then an interesting idea would be to turn the heatsink 90 degrees, which should give the CCDs direct contact with more heatpipes than just a mere 7mm vertical shift.

  • @shiro5392

Hello. Thanks for testing. Could I ask you how exactly you screwed in the coolers? Specifically the nh-u12a but I assume all similar? Did you screw until the screws stopped or before then? As I am confused by the manual which says to screw gently "until they stop" with a max torque of 0.6 nm. Yet it feels like you're not screwing "gently" unless they just mean "slowly". I also see conflicting comments online of people saying that torque is only "finger tight" but that can't be true at all as mine isn't even finger tight... but I didn't go until the screw stopped. So maybe I didn't tighten enough?

I'm planning to use Thermal Grizzly's contact sealing frame which also is a paste guard, with the offset bars. Should work great. Optimal pressure on the CPU and the perfect position over the CCDs.

This is very similar to what de8auer released a few years back for AM4... I think his solution was a little over engineered (and thus costly) for that few degrees of temp improvement... I imagine that noctua, whilst coming out with a much simpler product will still be expensive...

@@Astrothunderkat True, I bought the 280mm Freezer aio, it comes with the offset holes for my Asus AM4 board, I came from a Thermalright Macho Rev C cooler with a 140mm Noctua fan, now my 5800X3D has an improvement of 10C idle, 6C gaming and like 4C under full load, for reference my cpu is idling at 32C as of now, pretty sure the offset holes, aio and new paste are the factors here but that also means sustained boost clock a lot longer.
But be careful bc the downside is that my Toxic 360mm GPU (on top as exhaust) gained like 5C bc my new 280mm Freezer is acting as intake on front the case, any advice? Went from 55C gaming to 60C.

@TRC_WA If you're touching the thermal limit on occasion, causing throttling, it's 3 degrees cooler... My 7800X3D maxes out @ 80*c fully maxed out with the NH-D15 with stock symmetric brackets, (89*c is it's limit), seeing 77*c max load is worth $5. It takes me from 9*c headroom to 12*c... If you watch any serious heatsink reviews, like Gamers Nexus does where they really test a bunch of coolers against each other, 3*c is a very large difference. The new Gen2 NH-D15 coming out soon is only claimed to improve on the original by the same amount (2-4*c), and that's with a completely redesigned heatsink with new fin pitch, two extra heat pipes, new fans and took 8 years to develop to get those 3*c. So yeah. It's a lot. Again, Gamers Nexus has a great in depth video covering the Ge2 NH-D15 @ Computex 6 months ago, check it out.
