    DA MACHINE: You are the ONLY ONE as of now who made the most comprehensive analysis of NR200, and you have helped so many of us who are still waiting on the case itself to shape up the right cooling components of our builds. I cannot thank you enough for the tremendous amount of work you’ve done with these series. I’m sure I’m expressing the voice of the entire SFF community and NR200 fans in particular. Thank you!

      Love it! I'm stoked that all of you are enjoying this, and there's still a lot more to come. This case certainly deserves the following it's building up and we absolutely need to give it the attention it deserves so that improvements, revisions, and competing products follow in the future, the future is bright for SFF!

      Machines & More absolutely. By far this is the best case I’ve come across so far, and trust me, I’ve been watching the evolution of SFF cases for quite some time now, researching EVERY single case that was manufactured at this point. Considering it’s affordability AND hardware compatibility, this is by far one of the most accommodating cases on the market right now. No wonder it sparks so much interest! Don’t stop experimenting with it😎! Looking forward to the 3000 series videos now from u! Cheers! And again
      - great work.

      Machines & More also, there should be an equivalent to Cerberus X (just slightly larger than NR200) with full ATX boards support, yet implementing a SFF so we could take full advantage of the hardware. Cerberus and it’s bigger brother X-version lack radiator support. While it’s possible, the options are limited that’s the reason why I ended up NOT going with it.

      @@MachinesMore Can I ask, with the C14S is it better to have the fan on the top side of the heatsink instead of on the side panel? Also I was thinking of putting a fan next to it on the side panel but as exhaust to help get rid of GPU heat, that woudn't megatively affect CPU right?

      @@MachinesMore thanks a lot indeed! I have migrated parts from the TU150 into the nr200 last week, since the GPU (3080 XC3 from Evga) was just getting choked with high thermals as a result. CPU temps (5800x) were great when paired with the Scythe Mugen 5 PCGH edition, which makes sense, considering the airflow of the case. I have slapped a single NF-A12 on now for intake since a second Scythe fan did not fit the case in the back for the pull/exhaust with the I Aorus x570 mobo. 2 slim Scythe Kaze flex are mounted under the GPU. 1 included top fan as exhaust. Aesthetically I would love a 2 fan exhaust in the top, so not sure how to approach that yet.
      Results for now: GPU temps under stress load are 7-9 (!!!) degrees lower than in the old case, with less fan noise. CPU is cool under load as well, although a bit jumpy in gaming, which is known for the model.
      So very happy so far. But just can't stand that there's only 1 Cpu fan on the tower, making me think it can get even cooler in there.
      So today, the C14s is coming in, and can't wait to see what it'll do in comparison.

  • @Justin-C
    @Justin-C 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Are you able to mount something like the U12S so that it blows upward?
    Planning on getting an NR200P when they're finally available for sale. Two top exhaust fans, a Founders 3080, plus (likely) a CPU tower cooler rotated so that it blows upward. Takes advantage of the "chimney" effect, minimizes changes in airflow direction, and gives the 3080's pass-through exhaust an easy way out (directly to the top 120mm exhaust rather than getting sucked into a sideways cpu tower).

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could- with an Intel socket just rotate it 90 degrees. For AM4 you will either need to have the SE AM4 version or request the brackets from Noctua separately. I’m kind of curious myself how well that will work but I’m wondering if the GPU exhaust just gets dumped in pretty unilaterally from underneath. The 3080 may somehow work out well, we have to wait and see. However, for GPUs that exhaust out the sides, that may be a recipe for extra heat for the CPU. We’re still pretty tight on space so whether it’s bottom up or side out, it’s still intaking close to the GPU.

    @Bound4Earth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you are ballsy you can try 4mm standoffs or modding the side panel if you already have a larger cooler. Just throwing out alternatives for people like me, that already had an old NH-D15 and didn't want to waste money on another cooler. I fell in love with this case and made it work. I chose to mod the side panel, but have seen a few cases of using shorter standoffs that worked just fine.
    The 4mm standoffs will cause some minor I/O displacement, but you should still be able to use everything just fine. Just be aware that it might cause issues with clearance for M.2 drives and you have to ensure the motherboard doesn't come close to the metal. You also have to ensure you have shorter screws that work in the shorter standoffs or use some kind of spacer.
    The modded side panel can actually turn out kind of cool. I provided an example below, not my mod btw.

    If I already have 7x NF-A12's from a previous build and can occupy both top 2 and bottom 2 fans in the NR200, would the U12A be overall better than the C14S?
    Say having the U12A pulling air intake from the rear, 2 a12's intaking from the bottom and 2 a12's exhausting from the top?
    thanks

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it’s already better in that you don’t have to go out and buy another cooler 😎 Seriously though, if you already have a U12A, I wouldn’t go and buy another air cooler, since the U12A is close to the C14S. If you really need lowest CPU temps I’d be looking at a side mount AIO.The U12A is an objectively better cooler than the C14S, but in this case, and due to the position, it’s not as ideal if you have a moderate to high TDP GPU (and both CPU and GPU run simultaneously). The top to bottom fan direction is correct, but try the cooler out as a rear exhaust first, without bottom fans (in rear exhaust bottom fans make the CPU temps marginally worse and GPU marginally better, it’s a wash). You’ll find that as long as top exhaust is running, your thermals will be close to a rear intake with bottom fans running.

I'm wondering if the lower placed CPU socket on the Asus or Asrock B550i boards would allow more space to install both of the 25mm top fans using the NH-C14s in the NR200? Or if not, might a rear 92mm exhaust give it some help?

    The C14S should fit with a top fan above it, just barely but it should fit! Maybe it didn't fit because it was the Gigabyte motherboard? Also, moving the PSU to the front case mount should allow to use a second 140mm under the heatsink (but it probably won't give a big temp difference).
    Here's an example configuration photo as a proof: imgur.com/NmY0CzS
    Anyway, great analysis and thank you for benchmarking!

      You’re probably right on moving the shroud for fitting another fan under. As for above, I couldn’t even get a slim fan to work. It fit but the cover pressed the center in on the cooler so it couldn’t spin. A lower cpu socket on something like the Strix board would probably let the slim fan fit.

    This was so helpful, thanks for talking me out of the U12a and putting forth a good argument for the C14s. I'm curious about the clearance above the C14s and fan compatibility at the top of the case.
    I know you mentioned that the 120mm fan does not fit for the C14s, but does for the U12a. There's a 15mm difference in the width of the two, so a slim fan should fit above the C14s right? I think that if it does, the C14s would be better for this case not only because the GPU temps have better potential, but the slim fan should close the gap in CPU temps, if not allow it to perform better than the U12a, no?

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You’re welcome. I couldn’t fit a slim fan over either since there was pressure on the center making it not turn. However- this part is heavily motherboard dependent and my test board happens to be one of the higher CPU sockets for ITX boards. If you’re running something lower like the Asus Strix boards, you will probably be able to fit a slim fan over, however you will need to determine how to attach it. The CPU temps are already on par with the U12A if you’re using a good pull fan under the heatsink. The top fan isn’t strictly needed at that point. The idea is that there’s still plenty of open space for the hot air to be expelled, either side, or top of the heatsink. There’s a generous amount of clearance between the heatsink and the motherboard so still room for air to move around. Putting the 140mm fan on the rad panel also really helps.

    I recommend including benchmarks for 1) best low cost air cooling solution and configuration (maybe a $40-60 cooler, and 1-3 extra case fans ... whatever you can do for reasonable money while stopping before diminishing returns) and 2) best high end air cooler and case fan configuration (again while staying reasonable, 99% of people don't want to spend $100 in noctua case fans to gain 1 degree or 1 decibel), and then best aio water cooler and configuration...
    and I actually have ordered two NR200P cases, one black and one white... so it would be great to do the same final recommendations for these cases with glass, both horizontal and vertical gpu... I don’t really use that many cpu heavy tasks, so my gpu is the main thing that has to stay cool. The thing is: where I live, the C14s(109€) is more expensive than the U12a(98€). I don’t mind spending more money if it works better. So I also looked at your aio vids and found the nzxt kraken x63 and ther Corsair H115i. I’m a little worried that an aio in this case wil get malfunctions due to little space. What would you, or anyone else recommend? Have a nice day and thanks again for the series, you’ve helped me out tremendously

      I think the addition of the glass panel will restrict the ability of the C14s to draw cool air from the top, though it will have the back opening to help (an intaking 92mm would hugely help but unfortunately won't fit). I would think that you would be better off with a regular tower there since the airflow pattern is more dependent on the top fans. So, Fuma 2 or U12A depending on budget/cooling needs. And I am glad you enjoyed the videos!

    You need to try this configuration instead as it would show the best thermals/performance. Noctua U12A in intake position. 2 x bottom fans intake, 2 x top exhaust and 1 x side exhaust. Can be done on a modified side panel. See here (gpu removed for better pictures) - also PSU with Noctua fan: imgur.com/a/MMcooWO

      Cheers, great setup there. For sure, with high TBP GPUs rear intake with 2X bottom and 2X top is the way to go. Thanks for the input on the side exhaust, will test and revisit that setup in part II of Optimizing Air Cooling! The Noctua fan trick is pretty awesome... but I’ll refrain from showing how folks can open their PSUs because even though it can be safely done, it can get unsafe with the wrong hands really quickly.

      @dennistdk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MachinesMore Thanks for the reply! The Noctua fan in the PSU is only for bringing down the noise levels as the Corsair SF600 fan was quite loud compared to the rest of the setup. It's an easy swap requiring minimal soldering. But yes, for sure - it requires some experience/knowledge to do safely.

    Hello, there's some confusion in reddit and nr200p forums on whether the Fuma 2 fits with the TG or not, can you confirm with your experience?

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can’t confirm since I don’t have the TG panel yet. I’ve seen yes though from some users, I would think that the 2mm difference between the two versions would make the U12A very iffy and the Fuma would still be OK, since it’s 3mm shorter than the U12A. The mesh panels will have flex though, so that can absorb some excess height.

    For whatever reason, I cannot get my PC ( ASROCK Fatal1ty z370 ac/itx with 9600k ) to boot with the Fuma 2 cooler installed. I had researched and tried for hours to get it to boot, including resetting CMOS, replacing the RAM, trying one stick of RAM at a time in different slots, reseating the cooler, trying numerous different tolerances of tightness on the cooler, etc., and nothing works except putting back on my old Corsair H60 AIO. I even put one-sided foam tape on the backplate facing the board in case the metal backplate might be making any contact at all with anything, to no change. And each time it's been obvious that the bead of thermal paste I put on has spread out very well to cover the CPU, and I've been very careful to tighten it up evenly.
    There's nothing left I can think of to try. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ :D I've have had no problem at all with other coolers such as the Noctua U14S, Hyper 212, other AIO's and stock coolers on numerous other builds and have had the Noctua cooler on this same mobo in a larger case before. I was really hoping to get this one working, as I didn't want to go with an AIO I can't keep an eye on with the NR200P because of having to use the vented panel. Anyway, I'm definitely open to any further ideas, and maybe someone else will have a similar problem at some point and won't feel too alone. :D For now, I'm just going to work on zip-tying the 120 AIO to the side frame after putting 2 120 mm fans in a push/pull config on it and to be able to position it so the intake fans will also blow directly onto the mobo similar to as if I were using a C14S.

      Question… will it POST when the fan cables are not plugged in? I vaguely recall a similar situation awhile back that someone commented on and it was because the fan splitter or cable was incompatible.

    • @Rushtallica
      @Rushtallica 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MachinesMore Hi, and thanks so much for your great videos -- I've been watching plenty -- and your question/reply. 8) I tried it with both fans going to the CPU fan header with the supplied splitter and also tried going separately after that didn't work, one going to the CPU fan header and one going to the OPT/pump header. Each time I removed the Fuma 2 cooler and applied the H60, it booted with everything else connected the same way. If I wasn't out of time, I'd take it apart and reapply the Fuma 2 one more time just to make absolutely sure no part of the cooler is contacting any front part on the motherboard, like a pipe touching one of the memory chips or something. I think I would have noticed it when putting the cooler on each time, but my attention was more caught up in if I was getting each of the 2 bolts started correctly and tightening evenly with each other. :D It's the only thing left I can think of to check. But my H60 is crammed in now with a push/pull config (about to zip tie it now) and working with a barely-fitting Red Devil 6800 XT (I had to take off the I/O little plastic sheath organizer from the end of the cable, as it was putting pressure on the back of the card, pushing it down). I'm just glad it's working now. But when I have time again at some point, I'll likely try the Fuma 2 again and appreciate the quality of the cooler, and I intend to come back here and post if I can get it working. Thanks so much again. :)

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s so weird, I’m genuinely curious what’s going on. It uses the stock AM4 backplate so shorting things out on the board shouldn’t be an issue. If you do try it again, I would try to POST first with nothing plugged onto the headers (it’s fine to run fanless just to see if it will start, there’s enough thermal mass for the cooler work work passively for at least awhile). If the cable on either fan is damaged it might be the issue… and if it does start without fans plugged in then one or both of the fans are faulty.

    If u get the mounting bracket for the c14 itll allow you to switch position of the heatsink and free up room to put a 140mm underneath and a 92mm rear. Atleast thats what ncase m1 people do. Also a 92mm doesnt fix on the rear with the c14? Looks like it would with all that space

      @MachinesMore  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@crassy3093 Slim 92 probably, but at that point I'd just let it run passive, the obstruction to the airflow path may be more counterproductive than just leaving it open. Another intake fan next to the heatsink fan didn't do too much. Too much intake in the case at that point, I had two bottom, one A14 on the side, you have to balance things out especially since there's only one exhaust fan on the top right.

    Do you think the C14S has enough clearance for a pair of Trident Z Neo DIMMs on an ASUS ROG Strix X570-i with an NF-A12x25 installed underneath?
    Looking at noctua.at/en/nh-c14s/faq#128, I see that there is 67 mm of clearance. Subtracting the 25 mm of the NF-a12x25, that leaves 42 mm of clearance and it appears that the Trident Z Neo modules are 41 mm each. So it appears that it will fit, but I'm curious if you have real world experience with this configuration.

At 12:10, where it shows you fitting a U12A with I assume a 25 mm fan on top of it, is that using the Asus motherboard?
