Kleiber is greeted with such an ovation before the opera even begins. Just shows he was loved in München! And then what a cast! Cossutta is absolutely in his element with Otello. Dark, baritonal, lyrical and complete freedom in the upper register - no strain whatsoever. Cappuccilli and Varady magnificent! (Cappuccilli as always going for the top Bb at the end of Act II) What times these were. Thank you!

Je ne connaissais absolument pas l'existence de ce live, magnifique et magique comme toujours avec le merveilleux Carlos Kleiber, sauf que je préfère et de loin la voix et le timbre de Placido Domingo en Otello avec Kleiber aussi en 76 à la Scala, live prodigieux également, peut-être encore davantage

Wow the applause at the beginning. You will be very hard pressed even after all these years to find any bad words about Kleiber. A magnificent conductor he was and is in this recording.
His recording of Brahms' 4th Symphony is truly divine fruit.

(unfortunately Cossutta always had to scream the "ciò m'accora... il fazzoletto", he was a great artist nonetheless)
