    so don't worry about the 3-4 accumulator? I don't wanna drop the valve body. Scared to go that deep. The FWD one looks easy. Would it be dumb to replace just the 1-2 and FWD? Upgrading to pinless.

    That stack up looked identical to the Transgo HD2 kit. The Electronic Pressure Control solenoid does need to be removed to replace the case electrical connector. Different.

    I had mine rebuilt, Top to bottom, it still slams like a shotgun from 1st to 2nd.

    I've been working on LS1 firebird with a 4L60E and I've been having the issue where the car jerks when I put it on reverse or drive but after I run it for a while it goes back to normal. This video gave me hope to fix this issue so thanks for the tips!

    Ya my avalanche Trans lasted till 250,000 with the hard 1 to 2 shift, That one was from GM. My Silverado is starting to get the hard 1 to 2 shift , I am going to put a Accumulator with metal parts. Plastic just does not stand the test of time , this helps alot , this part is not very expensive either.

    Still have a harsh 1-2 shift after accumulator work? Try disconnecting and reconnecting the wiring harness to the transmission to clean the contacts.
    Also, if you are checking solenoid resistance, do it all the way from the ECM-side harness pins. This will tell you a lot. This is an end-to-end test. If the values aren’t good, disconnect the 13 pin transmission connector and check from the male pins on the internal wiring harness. The last place to check is by dropping the pan and checking the solenoids themselves. Good solenoids are useless if the wiring and/or 13-pin connector are bad or intermittent.

    This is sad at 63K my 05 colorado bangs into second gear, while my 81 oldsmobile with 385K shifts perfectly!, they don't make them like they use to.

      Sounds like you haven't cared for the 05 Colorado. Unless you've had the 81 since new, I'd say the previous owners took good care of it before you got your hands on it

      @@Mike_hocksbig69 The Colorado has had kid gloves since new just like my 81 Olds and 73 vette, 85 380 sl and 88 Town car. They are all still keepers not like my 68 Cougar 81 trans am and 86 vette they were the ones that i could not mechanically connect with and have been gone from the stable nearly forty years!

    I drained the pan and changed the filter a few months later. Now the RPM is fluctuating, but it grabs gears very well. What would cause the fluctuating RPM? It happens at 35 to 50 mph and then goes away.

    My 1994, 1500 pick up 5.7 when it gets hot .. it gets stuck on 2-3 gear . It goes limp mode

    I follow your videos, I have do ne a lot of thing to fix my 1-2 hard shifting in my 05 suburban 4l60e. I have replaced the piston accumulator for the double O ring aluminum one and replace the pressure solenoid and I still have that hard shift from 1st to second. Also from park to gear . Need an advise please

    Great video.In My 4L60e,in my 2000 Chevy s10,I was driving and noticed it slipping a little.All of the sudden it quit pulling.Like it went to neutral.Next day it worked until it got warm,then nothing.What you think.

    I have an issue with a 97 silverado with the rough shift going from park, 1-2 is rough, and sometimes when downshifting from 4th to 3rd, it seems like it's missing the gear and hitting neutral.. I bought the truck with a "15,000 mile rebuilt transmission"... how boned am I?

    my 2001 Suburban 4x4 just today started not wanting to upshift, no SES, no codes that I can see. I've already had intermittent service 4WD, and was going to get to that, unfortunately today when I went to go see neighbor it was in 4Low, and after the offroad portion ended of my run ended and I got to pavement I noticed high rpm's, drove to Post Office trying to Isolate symptoms other than the transfer case not shifting, it was DRAMATICALLY HANGING IN GEAR BETWEEN SHIFTS, and would only upshift after coasting, but mostly hanging in 1st too long and 2nd too long, not sure if it was getting into 3rd and4th at all, kind of hard when in 4Lo. Any clues as to where I should start?

      Do a complete drain and fill 6 times. 18 quarts. Yes, 18 quarts. Max Life valvoline full synthetic. $18 a gallon at Walmart. That’ll give you at least 75-80% new oil. I bought a small oil pump to suck it out thru the dipstick tube which makes this job very easy. $20 thru eBay. Drive it 10-15” between each drain n fill to mix it real good. Then 2 bottles of Lube Guard red. Worked for my 2001 4L60E. No more hard shifts.

      This video is for the hard shift from 1 -2 and from Park to Drive. Thats Accumulator issue. But. If you have prob w both the 1 -2 and the 3-4 then its NOT the accumulator (or just the accum) But. That's also indicative of prob with both of your Solenoids. Change them out for the two of them. Do this before buying 18 quarts of fluid to flush it. Geeesh.

    I did have A 96 chevy with A 4l60 that had A p0748 code pressure solinoid. But it was the PCM that caused the hard shift from 1to2nd gear

      So your fix was replacing your computer?

      Yes the computer was sending 1.2 amps to the pressure control solinoid and the new PCM was sending .4amp and the pcs duty cycle was at 55% and that resolved the transmission code and the hard shift issue.

    My new Automatic Transmission 1-2 Accumulator came with piston down inside of it I heard people say it needs come up and put your old springs in new one but place I got the ome one from says there all ready in there dose the piston come up by it's self?

    I have question...I had someone diagnose my transmission because it was hitting the rev limiter going into 2nd and just going into 2nd all other shifts are good he had to use his laptop to switch the solenoid on/off then it would shift proper into 2nd. What could that sign be???

      Accumulator not moving properly would be my best guess. But a blockage in the valve body can cause this too.

    I have a 4l60e that has recently developed hard shifting from 1-2 and 2-3 also but only after I drive a few miles or after its warmed up a bit. I was going to replace the 1-2 accumulator but im thinking that might not be the issue given the 2-3 hard shift. Any ideas?

      If its a good trany. There is a 3-4 check ball in there that a lot of people don't think about. You can get a little better shifting from it. But... if the tranny is old and its bad, stick with factory.

    I have a 96 GMC Sonoma 4wd 4.3l v6 n my transmission goes into gear but has very slow start wen pushing the throttle, rpm will go to 2k before the truck starts to move, once it goes it shifts fine n gets to speed no issues, is that my 1-2 clutch's going out or no?

      You do not need to remove the trans to remove accumulator. Make sure to check your harness for continuity and your shift solenoids while you are in there.

    Question that you didn't answer. What if you have it in low or 1st gear and want to hold it in that gear but it keeps shifting into second normally but holding 2nd with no problem? What would be the problem. I use to be able to downshift to first at 20-30 mph for roll racing or hot rodding it and and hold it no problem. Now, it wont downshift to first gear or low when I want it. Started happening randomly.

      They are made to shift into 2nd @ 4500rpm. It requires VB changes to stay in manual low above 4500rpm.
      @4500rpm, the reverse input drum is spinning @ 9000rpm, which gets sketchy.

    Do you have any vids on delayed engagement from takeoff with a 4L60E. I have a 01 Tahoe 4x4. I was hoping it was the converter clutch solenoid or something that saves the $2k shop. Of course filter didn't help, no metal either. I used one of the trans no slip super duper all fix additives,...nope..lol. It shifts fine at speed and doesn't slip thru gears or at speed.

    It looked like that accumulator piston did not even have a seal on it based on how easily it fell out of its bore. That was a reason for your harsh shift, the accumulator piston could not even do its job.

      This trans lost 3rd and 4th. 1st and 2nd got us home. The check ball in the case was leaking like a siv.

    With the spacer or without the spacer confused me into thinking it popped out and could not find it back. Turns out after hours of looking there was no spacer in my tranny. M ust be a difference between the 4l65 and the 4l60 . Maybe it is the year that makes this difference.

    Are the accumulator housings ending in 428 and 937 interchangeable they are the same size pin.230 937 is alittle newer style I believe but almost identical. Can I use a 428 in place of the 937?

    Hi...I have a 97 silverado and when I drive nonstop for about 20 miles and then stop and go again the second gear makes a hard shift..the weird thing is if I turn off the truck and start it again it goes back to normal?will this part make it do that?

    Scotties was spot on with the accumulator repair. My 2009 Colorado 2WD pickup was hard shifting on the 1-2 shift. I chnaged the trans fluid, sourced the AC Delco part from his link, Amazon prime shipped it next day, and the problem is gone. My bracket for the shift linkage was held on with two 13mm bolts, and the pan came free very easily. Gasket & Filter set I used was WIX. Thanks Scotties!

    I have a 93 k1500 with the 6.2 diesel. When taking off from a stop it clunks like if it had a manual trans and you popped the clutch. It doesn't clunk in reverse and when you shift the trans into 2nd gear and take off it doesn't clunk either. It almost feels like it shifts into neutral when you come to a stop then once you start rolling again it drops back into drive.

    So I watched your video on the Sonnax painless mod. I ordered the kit along with a used accumulator from ebay. Before opening my transmission (2007 Silverado 4.8) I broke the housing on the used accumulator making the cross hatch. So I opened mine and noticed the housings were a little different. Mine had 1 spring, the used one had 2 but had a metal piston. I did the painless mod on my accumulator and since your video shows 2 springs I used the 2 from the one I broke. So I still have the same issue. I tested the ball bearing and it didn't come out and I figure if it did I would know it. What do you think?

    Any advice on a what seems like a slip after warmed up to about 160f on trans, from a stop, or p to d, 3 or 1.
    Then I have to tap the gas to get it to what seems like fall into gear and then move like normal.
    It does not do it when starting in 2 or reverse.
    A local shop rebuilt it 50k ago (before I got the truck). I was thinking maybe forward accumulator piston, can you get to that without removing the valve body (I have an 08 silverado)? I know the screws are in a tight area there. But maybe the forward accumulator is fine because when starting 2nd it doesn't need a bump.
    Only other thing I can think of is it's fucked internally. Any thoughts?

    I have 4l60e in a 2000 Silverado. It won't go when you put it in drive but when you put it in 1 it does fine. All other gears are fine. We changed both the silinoids mine as well since we were in there) and still nothing. What can I do?

    I have a 2007 sierra 4x4. Hard shifts from 1st-2nd. only codes I get are po172 and po175 system rich. Hard shift intermittent. Banner Chevy changed TCM problem still exists. They pulled code p2544, u0100 loss communication with TCM. Any advice at all. Could a sensor be causing this or a bad wire harness?

    I have an 08 Silverado that when going from park to drive a very hard engagement occurs, no other hard shift issues only when leaving park and going into drive does the hard engagement occurs. I have not found any posts online with these same symptoms. Looking for some help, thanks

    I have a 1994 4l60e wont shift at low rpm shifts from 1-2 when I get over 25mph at a higher rpm and wont shift from 2-3 till I get over 45mph at a high rpm and has hard shift from park to drive. Any idea what needs replaced.

    Have 1999 S10 w/4l60e...it shutters only in 1st at take off...then shifts smoothly/properly through all gears, only shutters slightly from complete stop to go...is this also an accumulator issue also? Thank you

    I have a 2007 chevy silverado would this be my problem im shifting very hard going into second and only second drives smooth i bought the gm manufactured one waiting for it to come is it one whole assembly or do i have to buy different parts to go in the accumilator

      Kits vary. I would google the part number so you know what you got. If you are replacing the piston, make sure it's not plastic. Update to a metal piston if you have not done so. Don't do the job twice...
      This could be your issue but so many things can be the root cause. Check for debris in the pan too.

      Could be a few things. 1: Bad throttle position sensor. 2: bad 1-2 accumulator. Or 3: poor line pressure. Have you looked at your fluid? Is it discolored or burnt? Is the fluid at the fill line? Poor line pressure usually has more symptoms.

    Hello I have a 98 s10 4.3 2wd if I’m driving normal my truck shifts great. If I get on it more than half throttle it acts like my fuel is being cut off and it slams into 2nd gear and tires squeal If I go up hill and I happen to hit passing gear it does the same thing.     What would cause my 99 chevy Express 2500 4.3 to jerk while accelerating between 50 and 60 mph I have no codes and it runs fine shifts to reverse and drive smooth but jerks lightly while accelerating at highway speeds help please

    My 04 Escalade kinda clunks or slams from park to reverse would this accumulator fix or that other sensor you pointed out ? Also 1 to 2 kinda lunges forward and it shifts but seems delayed ?

      The accumulators probably won't fix a reverse issue. Maybe the 1-2 shift but not reverse. Have you checked your tps? Use a volt meter to do a sweeping test and see if you have any glitches. A bad tps causes a lot of issues.

    My truck GMC Sierra k 1500 has 4l60e in it when I push on the throttle the truck was just red line until I and it won't shift and when I let off the throttle shift I'm going to the lake to drive what was the cause of this I've already changed the shift solenoids

      Possible. Have you heard any loud bangs like you drove over a road plate? Or is reverse starting to slip? Could be a sun gear.

    My gmc sierra doesnt want to shift into second until I release the gas pedal. Do you think this could be caused by the accumulator or is the hard shift the only reason for digging into that? I already tested both of my shift solenoids and they are good.

    I have a 2008 gmc yukon slt and it tends to jerk/jump when turning left or right slowly. But when in straight rd it drives just fine, i dont hear any clunking or differential noises or trany codes on the cluster. Someone told me to replace the mass air flow sensor even though the mass does not show in a check engine light... any ideas what it could be? “Help”

    Thanks for the video. I have an 08 Silverado that the first time it’ shift from 1-2 its normal then every other time it’s a hard shift, if you cut the truck off and start it back up same thing first time is normal and then hard from 1-2 and fine through the rest of the gears. Wld this be a good place to start or is there any other direction you can lead me towards. Thank you.

    I have a 2002 Silverado 4X4 serviced the trans changed filter and gaskets, ran in in the air to make sure I had shift point and checked make sure trans fluid was at normal level, Shifted fine revere also, let it sit over night put it on the ground and now it wont go, the shift indicator is not registering when i put in in drive, but does indicate PK R & Neutral, drain fluid re pulled pan to make sure filter didn't come off it was fine. have any ideas, does the indicator have to work for the transmission to work?

    You seem like you know your GM transmissions. I have an 88 one ton two wheel drive that is stuck in first gear. Any ideas? I have park, reverse, neutral and drive but it won't shift up I can't even manually select second gear inn the column. It just stays in first.

    Scotties, I have an 2013 Silverado z71 when i drive with low rpm it shift the gear smoothly but when i drive faster with the high rpm it delay the shift between gear then the gear shift harshly so it is the problem from solenoids or what pls

    I have an 04 silverdo with a noticeably hard 1-2 shift under light/normal throttle. If i give it more throttle, it shifts smooth. Im a Chrysler tech and new to these GM transmissions. Would my issue fit this repair? And once i get the accumulator out, how can i confirm it is in fact bad

      @@chrisg1364 It was from the corvette servo I put in my truck, I just think the part was no good and something was wrong with it (crazy hard shifts instead of nice firm ones). I put back in my stock servo and it shifts normal again. So I think that was the problem. Did you figure out yours?

    Thanks for all your informative videos. I have a question you mentioned if chasing a hard shift issue check the electronic power control solenoid. How would I check or test test Solenoid? And if it is bad do you have a link for this EPC solenoid?

    What year is this transmission you are working on? So I can do my 1-2 3-4 pistons without taking off valve body I don't really wanna take off my vb I have a 2001 4l60e.

      To get to the 3-4 in the case, the valve body has to come off. This trans was out of a 01 tahoe.

      @@robpaul7900 nope. The plate between the 1-2 & 3-4 is hald in by the valve body.

      @@robpaul7900 better than doing nothing. If you don't have 3 rd or 4th, the check ball in the case might be bad.

    Thanks for sharing! My friend 2004 GMC envoy does a weird clunk knocking sound but only when changing from 1st into 2nd gear. Does anyone has any ideas or experienced anything similar? Could this 1-2 accumulator be the reason? Thanks!

      Possibly 1-2 accumulator,check throttle position sensor on throttle body also,they can effect shifting too,that would be the easiest one to get to first!

      Worn Transmission, clutches. Works when fluid is cool and thick

    Can a bad accumulate cause 1-2 shift to be smooth or not really happening and some slip in 2nd because i had installed a corvet servo and it was fine and firm then this happened 4th feels fine i had actually ordered the transgo shift kit that i had planed on installing but i prdered the pinless upgrade pistones looks like 3 of them so probably get them Friday and do it this weekend

    Mine downshifts very hard 2-1, and it hard shifts almost no matter what 1-2. Sometimes it will be softer than other times. And when taking off it feels like my transmission is jumping.

    My 07 Silverado 1500 has a hard shift from 1-2, I had the 1870 error code. I bought the 1-2 accumulator that you highlighted in this video but it also has a shift kit installed so now I'm not sure if I should take it apart based on you saying you should install a shift kit instead of this pos

    In second gear, when I let off the gas and let back on, it feels like theres nothing and then hits in gear.

      Check the accumulator and shift valves. I bet you will find your problem. If the shift valves have debris on them, clean them and get ready for a rebuild. Is the accumulator stock? Check it either way but the factory ones are plastic usually and fail a lot. If their is debris in the accumulator that is not the accumulator, get ready for a rebuild. Check the piston and check the guide pin in the accumulator.

      @@ScottiesHobbies I believe it's all stock. It's in an h3. I plan on pulling my pan and checking after the winter. Maybe a rebuild is needed then.

    I'm having the 1-2 hard shift. With fault code p0961. I've replaced the EPC, 1-2 and 3-4 shift solenoid. But, I still have that fault code and hard shifting. Would the accumulator cause that fault?

    I have a harsh shift from 1-2 on my 07 Tahoe but it only happens immediately after I receive an error message for stabilitrak, then stabilitrak light turns off again and it shifts just fine, and it is intermittent when driving throughout the day, but like I said only happens when the stabilitrak light comes on then immediately it will start shifting hard, then goes back to normal when the error randomly goes away again. Any advice?

    I bought a metal 1-2 accumulator and it doesn't spin like the old one. Is that good or bad?

      It shouldn't spin. If you have enough play in it for it to spin it was probably letting fluid leak by and that is probably why you are replacing it. On your new pinless accumulator I believe it has two seals. Am I correct? I believe one is a rubber base seal and one is a nylon seal. Make sure those are on in the right place. The accumulator shouldn't spin it should only go up and down. It's a piston.

    I too have the 1-2 hard shift on my 2005 Avy it’s very sporadic though doesn’t do it all the time tranny shop couldn’t figure it out no codes.
    Could mine be a accumulator issue?

    You went from the removal straight to the install without showing us how and what you put in the accumulator ...come on man now I have to look at another more informative video on this subject.

      What goes in the accumulator will vary. Not many aftermarket accumulator assemblies are the same. I didn't want to confuse people with that. I like switching to pinless accumulators but then I get asked why they are different.

    My 03 silverado is experiencing a bit of a hard shift from first to second gear but only on low rmps like 1500. If I stay in it and let it climb to 2000 or more rpm is shifts perfectly. Does this seem like it would my my accumulator? If so, how urgent is it to replace it? Will it chase damage to my transmission or is it more of an annoyance? Please help.

      @@ScottiesHobbies Did a 4l60e that was a Good-wrench rebuild & the reverse drum was concave when installed.
      75% of the band center was completely untouched .
      Installed a customers " B&M 400 " that had no reverse & it filled his new Hi Stall converter with metal .
      They wanted it shipped back at cust expense to "allegedly" fix it .
      I built his original & drilled & flushed his converter & sent him down the road
      So NO , I don't trust anyone !

      Make sure the valve ports and shift valves are clean. back probe and 9v test the shift solenoids while in there.

      @@ScottiesHobbies crazy how they sell it as built lol when GM had better ones from the factory than this. 4l60 isn't bad, just can't hold up to abuse or poor maintenance. I've run one for 220k and it was still going.

    I have an 06 Silverado z71 with the hard shift from 1-2. The original accumulator that was in the transmission had one big Spring and one small spring, but the one I bought only had one small spring. I ended up re-using the two springs that were already in my transmission with the new accumulator housing and I still get the hard shift. Should I have used only the small spring that came with the new accumulator?

      Use what came with the replacement . Make sure the pin is in olace and not wobbly if you are reusing stock. The new accumulator mught not be the same exact diminsions as the factory. Some pistons are thicker so less spring or resistance is needed. Some springs are rated at different weights too so the small spring might be more or less resistant than the old one.

    I have 134k miles on my original 4l60e. My transmission doesn’t slip and my fluid is just now starting to get a little dirty. I have the hard 1-2 shift when my transmission gets hot. Do you recommend me dropping my pan and doing a fluid and filter change along with this upgrade or should I leave it alone and run the transmission till it goes out entirely? Nice video btw!
