- With Pokemon Legends Z-A announced, I thought it'd be fun to go back in time to Legends Arceus. A game that I spent A LOT of time in when it first released. This is literally my second playthrough of the game so it's interesting to go back and experience what this game was.
But now I'm playing through the game using only Gen 5 (Unovan/Unovan-related) Pokemon in order to rub in the faces that Gen 5 fans got completely snuffed in their pecking order for new games. Unless you count the Blueberry Academy DLC for Scarlet/Violet, Unova got completely skipped in terms of new games.
I also liked the risks taken to make Legends Arceus happen, even if some parts of it are less than stellar. So hopefully Game Freak learned from these risks and make Legends Z-A even more amazing.

As someone who grew up with Gen 6, you can't understand the absolute joy I felt when I found out we were getting a Kalos Legends game so soon! Especially with mega evolution returning, that moment was the most hype I've felt in a while!
I was a bit let down by how XY were handled but love the atmosphere of Kalos as a whole. So hopefully ZA handle it a bit better

Meh, personally i rather have no gen 5 remake at all than a buggy unfinished demake like sinohfans got with bdsp.
Agreed. I feel like there needs to be a “reason” for a remake. Not just because fans demand it. Like ORAS had the added Megas for example.
Makes me think that with Legends Arceus better reception than the remakes. they are using Legends Z-A to determine whether instead of remaking the gen V games, veering the remakes into a Legends game which is pretty much a "Pokémon Grey 3". They are using the Kalos games first in a way of making a "Pokémon Z" that's different to the gen 6 games first as it would be less ambitious and therefore less of a risk and using the reception to gauge making a Unova game in a similar style.

Gen 5 is my favorite gen, mostly because it was finally a game that was moderately difficult, had a decent story (For a Pokémon game) and enough rival interaction without it being every step or completely forgotten. It had a good pacing as well.
But i'm curious what they're going to do with the new game. I did skip the last few entries (from SwSh onwards) because i was desillusioned by GF (lying, terrible work, dex-cut etc) but if the new game looks decent, i might give it a chance.
Yea imo SM/USUM were the last fine games. Aside from the crazy amounts of dialogue. But I hear nothing but good things from Gen 5. So hopefully they don’t botch those things whenever they decide to remake them
it wasnt awful but compared to the gens that came before (sinnoh) and after (kalos) it completely sucks
@@Phantom-xy2bw I have to firmly disagree.
For one thing, Kalos was a travesty. Fewest new Pokemon of all generations, pacing and storyline was awful and the game is probably the easiest in the entire franchise. The two good things it brought were the fairy-type and Mega-evolutions. It had way too many 'rivals', but none of them really memorable. All felt kinda milquetoast and mostly unnecessary. I won't even delve into the local enemy team and how terribly both the idea and execution if them were.
Sinnoh is a very good game except that Gen 4 is needlessly slow. As in agonizingly so. Gen 4 had a decent story, but i think both B/W and B2/W2 have it beat by quite a bit. Cheren and Belle are way more likeable as rivals than Barry was as well. Quillfish-head is probably on the same stage as Barry though for me.
Sinnoh is definitely in my top 3 but just barely. My favorite would be: 1st S/M(USUM), 2nd BW(B2W2) and then 3rd Platinum.
Gen 5 was one of the best fucking gens ever 😭I really hope gen 5 gets remade/expanded eventually cause it had the best human and pokemon characters as well as lore. I literally cried at the end of black/white. N is amazing I love him
I never gave it a fair chance. I hear all the amazing things about it but just haven’t gotten around to fully immersing myself yet.
@@JohnRamen i feel like gen 5 would have been more loved if it came out at a different time. The old pokemon fans from the 90s grew up and left by the time gen 5 came out (like my stepbrother) and there weren't many younger fans at that time or the newer younger fans didn't connect as well with the story/lore. I was like 6 when the games came out so yea the deeper lore would have just flown over my head.
@@JohnRamen I'm in the postgame of White. If you want Tornadus, don't wait when the screens with text say there's an unusual thunderstorm. Go where it says the thunderstorm is. Otherwise, you can't catch it. The damage and status effects carry over between battles with it. It will run away, even when asleep. I just started White 2, and Elesia is annoying me with Volt Switch.
BTW White has the past version of where Dragonspiral Tower is, and Black has the future version.

As a super fan of and somebody who personally champions Gen 5, I am SO GLAD Gen 5 was not next. My biggest fear isn't a 6/10 Unova remake; I can handle that. But a BDSP style massacre? Naw fam I'd be SEETHING. Let the Gen 5 Games cook for years. I can wait. Please, make me wait for them.

And if you want a decent challenge: get a rom that has the hurdle mode already unlocked. (Enemies have a bit higher level, more Pokémon and actually use items. B2/W2 hurdle mode Iris is terrifying in a nuzlocke. Even more so than Cynthia. As blasphemous as it sounds.
Really wish that was a feature Pokémon continued to do. I understand making games easy enough for kids to play but give us another option for people who want a challenge!!
As a gen 5 fan. I wasn't really anticipating a remake this gen for Unova. The odd gens tend to buck the gen 3 formula of new game, remake, and enhanced game/DLC. Gen 3 bucked the initial trend by creating the remake formula, gen 5 only had sequels for the initial new game, gen 7 had reimagining's of their initial game + a Kanto tie in game. Going into Pokemon day, I was expecting to get another narrative accompaniment, like a SV prequel or midquel, something they haven't done yet to throw us off, or something new like what let's go and Legends were, but being either Johto or Kalos. I was still shocked (and salty) when Z-A was announced, mostly as I was thinking it wouldn't be a legends game, but a new genre for pokemon to enter accompanied with primarily Kalos representation and an announcement for gen 10 coming late 2025.
Black and White fans are wondering how long they'll have to wait for a new game in Unova.
Mystery Dungeon fans, on the other hand, are wondering if they'll even get a new game EVER.

@@JohnRamen Unless if you count the Red/Blue Rescue Team remake from 2020, the last PMD game, Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, was released in 2015.
Yea I’m talking brand new. The remake was definitely nostalgic as I played Red Rescue Team all the time. But a new one, especially with all the new pokemon since then would be amazing.

Platinum was my first Pokemon game I ever played. Needless to say I loved Arceus, and absolutely despised BDSP. XY are the games where I really like the region and the dex, but the game itself was pretty lackluster. I love the Gen5 games, and while I'd love returning to Unova, I think Kalos needed the revist the most and I don't mind Legends ZA breaking the usual remake cycle.

You got me there. I was going to just leave it up to interpretation, but since you're asking, it's actually more of a coincidence. My enthusiasm for the games started to wane in gen IV. It just wasn't as fun anymore, and it was the first gen in which I didn't play much after defeating the Pokémon League, even though I forced myself too for a while. I guess I decided it wasn't worth it to get the next gen games when they came out. When gen VI came out, however, I was in an environment where a bunch of other people wanted to play them, so I was dragged into it. I still didn't do much after the Pokémon League. I got Sword & Shield as a present, so I ended up playing those too. As I'm looking at the list now, I realise that Sun & Moon is a generation of its own, which I completely forgot about, so I guess what I said isn't really true anymore. Oops.

There’s a whole intro explaining the concept. The point was to upset Gen 5 fans, cause based on Pokemon game release patterns the next big release should’ve been something related to Gen 5 but it was a Gen 6 related game instead. So I used a Gen 5 team to spite those fans to try to show them what could’ve been.

Dude, you’re getting upset at a guy who has less than 100 subs. The whole video is a satirical challenge and not meant to be taken seriously whatsoever. I even said at the beginning of the video that I don’t care enough about Gens 5 or 6. Are the title and thumbnail clickbait? Absolutely, that’s how you get your name out there nowadays. In no way was it ragebait, at what point did I seem genuinely upset that they’re making a game for a generation I don’t care about? You say you don’t care enough about it, but clearly you care enough to leave a sad excuse of a comment when you could’ve just clicked off the video. Gen 6 back in 2013 was extremely hype season, much more than gen 5 ever was. It brought me back and stayed for ever. Can’t wait for ZA and hope it won’t suck …BdSP and how SV ran almost killed my hope for the franchise
Yea BDSP and SV weren’t the greatest, I still had fun with SV but I can see the glaring problems with them. Gen 6 was hype for me leading up to it but ultimately wasn’t satisfied after playing them but I understand why people enjoy them as much as they do.
