      Keets There is a difference between whether a character “could” act a certain way and whether they “should”. People act like there is no way Luke could have been this way which is ridiculous, he absolutely could have ended up this way. To some fans it’s really a matter of whether he “should” have, which I can understand more. Personally I’ve never been too attached to Luke so I loved him in this movie. I can understand people being rubbed the wrong way, but it annoys me when people say “that wasn’t Luke!” *face palm* Yes, it was, just maybe not how you wanted him, but it’s a consistent path that could’ve brought him there

      Luke can still be flying an X-Wing in the next one. His mechanical hand disappeared with him when he died, therefore, we might get to see a disembodied hand standing on the edge of the water, shaking as it uses the force to lift his X-Wing out from it. THEN, we can see it floating around the cockpit in space, flipping switches.

    "if he's actually come to realize that the Galaxy thinks it wants the Jedi back, but the Jedi have done nothing but add to the problems of the Universe." I love that statement, and it's associated sentiment.
    "The most selfless act he can do is to do what he couldn't do in the Empire Strikes Back and ignore the calls of help from his friends, and lock himself off. And, suddenly it turns to this kind of burden that he has to hold."
    That makes PERFECT sense.
    "He would love to jump back in and help everybody, but he's realized that if he brings the Jedi back in, then the Sith is going to rise up and the whole thing is going to start again, and it's just going to be more misery."
    I don't know why some people need to hear that explained to get it. The choices Rian Johnson made with Luke.
    Because that was definitely what I took from the story. And, although I couldn't put it into words that well lol trying to explain, I think it did come across that way pretty effectively, considering where Luke was at the end of The Force Awakens.
    And, it is, by far the best of all the possible choices whoever had the task of writing this film could have made.
    Whether I'm right or wrong, objectively speaking, to this day I haven't heard a better argument for a more effective narrative than what we got.

      TWSTF 8 THANK YOU! It is really really really nice to see someone understand this movie and Luke’s personality and why it is like that. I mean the movie tells the audience exactly why but they still see it as senseless. It hits me how many people there are that are just so much fanboying over Luke from the OT that they can’t accept no other character choice than being a “superhero”. This movie is definitely one of the best in the series. The second best for sure after empire.

      People are never happy. Somehow even if Luke had come to the rescue and been amazing and saved the day for everyone people would just complain oh well more of the same. That's one of the reasons why I enjoyed TLJ way more than TFA, it took the saga in a different direction for once

      I would also love to add the fact that many haters ignore, which is if Luke had gone to help Leia, he then needed to face Ben, and that's exactly why he locked him off from everything, because he loves Ben just like Leia. So he didn't choose sides. And it's clearly seen in the movie how much he struggles. His conflict over that decision is shown in his body language and verbal communication. Such a shame for that movie to be so much hated :S

    • @Hectorz111
      @Hectorz111 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      You can tell by interviews that he researched a lot. He watched all the previous movies, played multiple games and EU material.
      Then what went wrong with his story? Easy:
      If this fandom teached me anything is that everyone understands "what makes SW good" in their own way.
      Some want focus in character, others in the overarching story, some want detailed lore, some people want it dark and violent, or with fan service or old fashioned, they want Plagueis to return or to have all new stuff. The prequels to be forgotten or to be referenced.
      They all seem to think they get it better than the rest. Rian is one of those guys. He gets it in his own way. Loves it for it. "But that's not what Star Wars is about!"
      He stood to his vision and no one in the studio seemed to interfere at all, which gave him confidence.
      And all that "trust my guts" thing...
      He means that, as an artist, you need to come up with a story you believe in. You have to believe in what you're doing.
      (You can be sure of something and be wrong, go ask George himself).
      He knew what he was trying to do, he knew his story and he thought it was the right way to go.
      Being all disoriented during the whole production, you'll end up with an inconsistent, poorly crafted mess, even if you have a good story.
      Mark disagreed, yeah, but he's not a creative consultant. He's an actor and it was way into production so it's too late to change the whole script.
      But like i said, believing in what you're doing is no guarantee that it'll be good.
      The tragedy of art itself.

    • @JohnSmith-ff1rk
      @JohnSmith-ff1rk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They have a Lucasfilm story group that should be doing the job, not letting some random director "CREATE" something from his own mind. The EP 7 and 8 are all over the place and are really not star wars movies. Take out the OT characters and you have a B movie that could be on the SYFY network. Continuity is garbage in this new trilogy because of the lack of assistance from the legit Lucas story group. Just look at how well the animation Rebels did. That is because Filoni has been with Lucasfilm for many years and worked with Lucas and the story group. Johnson did not and has not. He's just a fan making a movie...and that's not good.
