The prequels were filmed with soul. You can't see it in sequels. Let's admit that standalone Lucasfilm actually knew the point and threw their souls inside the prequels so they turned out great. But the sequels were directed by the cold blooded Corp that only cared about money. Lucas is the greatest director and his team was working great on all 6 movies. Thanks for the best franchise ever existed
Three things I love about this: 1 the section about Ian McDiarmid and how much he loved portraying Palpatine over those movies; 2 the section about Anthony Daniels and C-3PO was super sad ... and 3 the round of applause when Hayden walked in in the Vader suit.
I like the prequels. I don't get why people actually hate on them. Never understood it. They are wonderfully made. Only the sequels by Disney deserve all hate. Change my mind!
It was because they only had the originals to compare them to. At least the prequels still tell a cohesive story and remains true to the universe created. It also didn't help that some of the dialogue was pretty poor.
@@MichaelMacintire0 It really isn't a "trend" to hate the sequels, the sequels are just bad. It has so many plot holes I could strain rice with it, they butchered characters and they made up the story as they went along. I could go on
@@mattey456 exactly, the The sequels are a train wreck. The sequels Brought nothing new to the Star Wars franchise were the prequel‘s did, The only thing the sequels did was break The franchise. And look at Star Wars now. No one cares about Star Wars anymore because of it.
I just can not believe how much work and love these incredible people put into all those costumes, effects and the whole play just to create mere seconds of a scene. I have the deepest respect for everyone who did work on this to create my favourite movie of all time.
Modern movies are made this way less and less. It’s a lot easier to just put the actors in front of a green screen and do nothing else. But the special effects that they built for the prequels, the on location shoots that they did in ep 1 and 2, the props that they created (and many early 2000s movies have that in general, for example LOTR) were just fantastic. I understand now what Tarantino was saying about cinema as a way to tell a story is a dying art.
Man how editing has changed over the years. All these guys and computers, can basically be done by 2 on one program. I remember watching this as a kid and be amazed by the technology they had.
Ok honestly I started the original star wars like a week ago, and just finished the prequels a couple days ago. OMG. Return of the jedi was fantastic, but revenge of the sith. That is effing emotional. Definitely my two favorites thanks to storyline and (duh) effects. George lucas is a legend.
No, no they chose to do what Lucas did in episode 4 and 1 by using the heroes journey to build up the story, a call back. It is in no way a remake of a new hope, it takes inspirations but the full product is drastically different. Different actors, different story, different characters, backgrounds, and motivations. Claiming that it’s just a remake of a new hope is in no way being fair to the force awakens
@@starwarsorsomething5703 you know what else is funny? You could do the exact same thing with The Phantom Menace. Main character on desert planet is strong in the force and doesn’t know it (Anakin), character meets older character that becomes a mentor (Qui-Gon), they meet a younger character on the way who reluctantly helps them (Obi-Wan), they infiltrate the trade empire (trade federation) base that blockades planets, it basically plays the same role as the Death Star, older character is killed by a Sith (Qui-Gon killed by Maul) although maul didn’t really have much connection to Qui-Gon but he will end up having a big connection to Obi-Wan. Naboo (Rebels) destroy base while young character main character discovers their abilities. It’s literally the same
I think we are hardly getting this level of craftsmanship again. It truly displays care, pacing, and a perfect blend of continuity and innovation. It is really a perfect equilibrium between a super production and artist authorship. More and more I am coming to believe that the Prequels, just like the Lord of the Rings movies were once in a lifetime products of their epochs. A fortunate combination of vision, creativity, money, and risk of a given time-frame of how movies were made.
Yeah the confluence of emergent CG with old-school crafts was incredible, and throw in the soundtracks to both trilogies... sumptuous production design whatever you might say about the respective plots!

So i need either God or my actual father because I’m complimenting a dead man and his legacy? Or is this just cuz Star Wars was geeky? Because it’s pretty mainstream now.
The amount of work and ingenuity went into the production of Revenge of the Sith is mindblowing. It's almost Lord of the Rings level of work. Miniatures, big miniatures, large sets, animatronics, all kinds of costumes, weapons for each character. It's amazing.
That is PRE-production, not production, fucking dumbass! Production is actually shooting the film, idiot. Post-Production is the editing process. Learn the differences, Jackass!
very few actors who had to do lightsaber battles move with such grace and confidence like hayden does when him and ewan are just rehearsing those little freestyle jabs when they are inbetween sequences are so satisfying
i love how george doesnt give a single fuck about anakins lightsaber. he just wants it to be the same as the one in a new hope. the sequels make such a big deal about that one lightsaber
Wouldn’t that be him giving a “fuck” tho? Your statement doesn’t make any sense mate.. if he wouldn’t give a fuck then he wouldn’t care if Anakins lightsaber would be the same as the one in new hope. So therefore he gives a “FUCK” because he wants it to be the same one for its relative purpose… Think mate, think before you speak young bloke
When you really analyze Palpatine’s behavior and grooming techniques it’s identical to how preferential sex offenders and pedophiles groom their young targets. It’s chilling and disgusting, but Ian does it so well as Sidious.
Though I was born when the prequels came out I grew up watching the original trilogy before I saw the prequels, but when I saw the prequels my mind was absolutely blown especially when the clones saved the Jedi in ep 2 and the entire Revenge of the sixth film was really epic
All other problems aside, one of the biggest things missing from the new sequels was intense, fast paced saber battles, like they had in Phantom and Revenge. The new saber battles were mediocre in comparison.
@@user-qz5qy3xq5pBecause of how they did it. The guys making the Sequels wanted to distance themselves from the PT and mimick the OT. But they didn't understand why the OT did it like they did. The teck and the actors. The props in the ST were way heavier. Probably beating actual swords. So they don't break. As the original did if they were to be put under stres. They also took the point about coregraphy made by some fans. Too much. There is a scene where they praise Daisy for her talent and how fast she learned to swing the props. Swordfighters, real ones, looked at it and pointed that what she was doing was incorect. That was on the guy coregraphing the fights. Daisy most certantly didn't know, but they should have helped her and not just say they she did it fast. Compare it to similar praise to the PT actors. Those guys took days, if not more, and in the end there were cases were they were moving too fast.
I think one of the most interesting parts of this video was the costume designer. I never really considered the fact that these clothes are not normal clothes, so they had to not only create all these new wardrobes, but also make them seem like they would be normal stuff that people would wear. Plus for the important people they had to really go into new territory. And they did it well.
I don't understand why they couldn't just end skywalker saga with return of the jedi and make movies to either complement the six movies or go to the past (eg. old republic). Anakin should bring balance to the force and that's how the OT ended but why then bring imbalance to the force again with sequel trilogy. What a shame.
I wish they just moved the story forward a hundred years, to a peaceful but complacent New Republic, where the Skywalker Saga had passed into myth. Then of course a new evil arises that they are totally unprepared for and they have to rediscover and draw on the past. But, before that, they should’ve just done a Thrawn Trilogy. Unfortunately Kathleen Kennedy wanted a toxic feminist trilogy instead…
Im just so happy George Lucas was the actual director for 1,2, and 3 before he sold star wars and they just completely destroyed it and ruined the whole thing. You really, really see the difference between star wars when George Lucas was the director and now. Now it doesn't look anywhere near what it use to be, all the amazing Effects and scenes that made star wars seem so real and amazing, Now is just gone and dead. And no other movie or saga is the creator, director and the sound track just as famous as the the movie itself..
3:27 Hold up a moment there. This is the clip people like to use when criticising George's scripts? A first draft. I always knew sth was off whenever I saw that clip being used to criticize George but I didn't think people would be this disingenuous.
I mean Ben Solo isn’t a recreation of Darth Vader. Here’s more like am angsty teen who got radicalized by the dark side, like Anakin, but unlike him, he still is conflicted
Say whatever you want about the prequels, but the costume design is truly remarkable It's baffling how these costumes didn't even receive a nomination for the Academy Awards. They exhibit a level of craftsmanship that surpasses many other films that have received recognition for less intricate and significant costume work I really don’t get it

Sydney film crews are so professional. A mate of mine was a carpenter on a few movies and he snuck me in to see a few days. It was like a choreographed war, hundreds of people who knew exactly what their job was, what to do, where to be, it was incredible to watch.
they had so much affection and effort to do the fight scenes, what Disney did in the newest films makes me wish I never stopped being a child of the 2000s
I was watching this while falling asleep, and I shut my eyes for a little bit still awake but almost asleep, and at 20:26 the music started playing and it just dawned on me how mystical and relaxing yet lonely and dark the music was and it sounded amazing. Just woke up a little bit ago
Star Wars prequels was what got me interested in the Star Wars franchise. I was soo blown away with George Lucas artistic Ideas. I loved the different types of aliens, the architecture, the cool flying vehicles, the starships, the different alien worlds, the dynamic robots and droids. His visionary movies made me feel like I was on a different planet everytime I watched the prequels. George Lucas visionary movies always added something artistically stunning and new to the table. I wanted him to continue directing his movies himself and intrigue us with his new ideas but then he sold the Franchise to Disney. When Disney made the Force Awakens it was the worst garbage of a movie I had ever seen. The movie had retrogressed a million times backwards. They reverted to clumsy 80s style animatronix with no more than 3 seconds of alien footage which were often rare. The droids were very slow and clumsy as they were animated using strings and pulleys. However in the prequels a lot of CGI was used to create more dynamic robots, droids, starships and cool looking aliens, including YODA. The reason why the CGI from the prequels was so good and realistic was because George Lucas used the best artists and made sure they took their time to render everything perfectly. There are some movies that require a lot of CGI especially futuristic ones like Star Wars or even Avatar because they depict that accurate feel of being in the future or a foreign planet. CGI isn't bad but it can be bad if overused for the wrong type of movies like Jurassic World for example. I think Jurassic park movies work better with animatronix for the dinosaurs at close range. The environment should be mostly natural. The reason why Disney Star Wars movies were so bad is because they had no architectural vision. Their settings were only based on earth environments. All their so called alien worlds were just basically "our earth." This same one we live in. George Lucas prequels always had something fascinating going on in the background of every movie scene like stunning architecture to aliens or droids communicating to flying vehicles and star ships taking off and landing. The only background scenes Disney depicted were our ordinary earth as worlds and to make matters worse, all Disney Star Wars movies were too dark tinted like all the bad Hollywood movies today that are too dark tinted with too many dark filters which renders them too boring to watch. The footage of aliens, creatures and droids from Disney's were no more than 3 seconds long. Their movies had more humans than aliens or droids. Even the aliens had less expressions as they were just humans wearing plastic or leather masks. In one of the scenes from Disney Star Wars I saw some horses which were meant to be creatures from alien planets. Sadly Disney folks just glued some extra bits and pieces to make them look like alien creatures but they were obviously horses. Had it been in the prequels, George would have used CGI to make them into some cool unknown four footed alien animals. One of the worst scenes that made me conclude that "I have had enough," from Disney's star Wars was where John Boyega pulled out what happened to be like a flash drive from a droid with a plastic cup head to connect to a laptop. The droid had a plastic cup head. It was literally a plastic cup!! All it could do was rotate it's head which was manipulated by a hand mechanism. That was when I decided I have had enough with Disney Star Wars. Disney also claimed that they had developed a new kind of filming technology which is using a large screen for background scenes instead of scenes generated with CGI as in the prequels. The problem with this method is that most of the background scenes are rather too greyish. With CGI not only can a lot of things happen in the background but there are lots of colors and the actors look like they're actually there. Sadly Disney has ruined all the Star Wars movies and movies related to Star Wars by making the franchise too ordinary. The only reason why The Force Awakens sold so much was because we all headed to the cinemas after many years from the prequels thinking Disney would continue with the style and ideas from the prequels but sadly, Disney has ZERO vision. The reason why JJ Abrams and other Disney directors made really bad Star Wars movies was because of the complain from those fans who loved the classics. So they just made ordinary boring Star Wars movies with nothing cool to entice the audience. George Lucas actually brought new cool stuff to the table with the prequels which were stunning to watch. Even seeing Yoda in the prequels with his multiple expressions in contrast to the lifeless puppet used in the classic made him look more lively. I was drawn to the prequels because of the cool visionary stuffs and dynamic scenes everywhere. The prequels felt more like the future while Disney's felt more like a Shakespearean medieval movie. As an artist myself, apart from a good story in a movie, I like to put more emphasis on the artistic touch used for every movie. For me, the various settings of every movie as well as the artistic detail and physics of every character matters. Movies for me, should always be architecturally designed based on their rightful settings with taste to make the story more engaging.

“A six minute long duel?! GREAT idea George! It’ll be as epic as the 15 minute pod race!”
“Dexter Jettster is the best character ever!”
“I’m telling you George, folks won’t be able to get enough of JarJar!”

Guys if you look at the description of this channel it says for like no hate or anything about any of the movies and yet you're allowed to have your opinion but just please no hate so say who you like and who you don't I just don't want this to turn into like a nasty environment
Aw. Right?! I felt sad for 3po too. His gold suit is awesome.
Anthony Daniels is just as iconic as Ian McDiarmid in his role, his voice is the definitive C3PO just like Ian is the definitive Palpatine.

I like the prequels. I don't get why people actually hate on them. Never understood it. They are wonderfully made.
Only the sequels by Disney deserve all hate. Change my mind!
no your right
It was because they only had the originals to compare them to. At least the prequels still tell a cohesive story and remains true to the universe created. It also didn't help that some of the dialogue was pretty poor.
It’s just trendy to hate the sequels now. Same as hating the prequels years ago. Not that I don’t have my criticisms (of both), but Disney did fine.
@@MichaelMacintire0 It really isn't a "trend" to hate the sequels, the sequels are just bad. It has so many plot holes I could strain rice with it, they butchered characters and they made up the story as they went along. I could go on

No, no they chose to do what Lucas did in episode 4 and 1 by using the heroes journey to build up the story, a call back. It is in no way a remake of a new hope, it takes inspirations but the full product is drastically different. Different actors, different story, different characters, backgrounds, and motivations.

This is star wars at its peak. It didn't get better than this. The Finale of ep3 is a masterpiece, one of the greatest.
56:38 I have been waiting for this :)
Everybody does
Star Wars prequels was what got me interested in the Star Wars franchise.
