I’m surprised that not more people are talking about him because he truly is an amazing writer! His book is probably one of my favourites that I read this year!

@@abigailelenas i personally love his story collections even more, but i don't think they ever got the chance to get translated to english :((((( you can also try reading Orhan Pamuk

I'm currently really longing for someone I'm deeply in love with (as in, I never loved someone as much as this), and for some reason this video was really comforting to watch. Also put some of the books you recommended on my to read list. Thanks for this video and the book recommendations :)

The Annie Ernaux obsession, oh how I relate. I read her books for the first time at university some ten years ago. Such joy from erading her! My favourites are Les années and La place. But also Mémoire de fille is nice.

I‘m glad I‘m not alone with my obsession! I have been listening to lots of interviews and she is so intelligent, I‘m very enamoured with her. Thank you for your recommendations, I think I will read Les années next once I have finished Passion Simple!

I am still on the early parts with him trying to settle into his job and meeting his odd co-worker, but I am sold already. Love the cynicism and world-weariness that's already very present. Thank you for reviewing an author I would otherwise have continued to be ignorant of 👍

wow im turkish!! i was so surprised when i saw the first book title because I was not expecting that! it brought back memories :] it's a turkish classic and a must read. i had to read it for literature class in 9th grade. it's called ''Kürk Mantolu Madonna'' in turkish! and I loved it, it's a great book!

Hello Abigail, I watched this video, and as I watched the part where you talk about Sabahattin Ali’s Madonna in a Fur Coat, I felt a deep ache. I also deeply connected with your philosophical statement, the reflection, where it says you read the book at the perfect time in your life. I met someone, a woman, some time ago, and she quieted that impossible ache inside me. It was the most beautiful connection I've experienced, in a way. She's gone now. I wrote poems about it. I found your TH-cam channel not long ago, and I bought The Madonna in a Fur Coat after your book description and how you chose to talk about it. I have yet to read it, but I will soon. If I may, I'll return and comment once that happens and share a few thoughts with you on what I felt; it seems it'll nourish me.

i have read about half of Giovanni's room so take my opinion with a grain of salt. i thought that a large part of the story was Giovani coming to terms with his queerness. Giovanis female partner is traveling through Europe and apart from Giovani. he has to come to terms with the fact that he enjoys the sexual intimacy he experiences with David his male partner.
    i enjoyed your video.
