While at Thomann Gearhead University (TGU) we had the amazing opportunity to sit down with my friend and amazing Guitarist Pete Thorn.
A lot of people probably know Pete from his TH-cam channel, but like myself, he is a professional. He’s a session guitar player who has a youtube channel.
Pete has a beautiful guitar that I’m sure most of you reading this article already know about. But most importantly Pete has a new amp coming out called the “Suhr PT15 IR”. - We have a lot to talk about so let's get into it.

What's your go to tube amp? Let me know below?

For me the best sounding distorted tube amp is the peavey 5150/6505.
But since its clean channel isnt working for me, i use a Diezel D-Moll.

I worked with a guitarist who had a Behringer combo . He loaded it with vintage cream backs and built a Boss RPQ 20 into it and it SCREAMED . ps his guitar is a Led Paul 83 in burgundy with gold tuners .

Now I know why Pete is so cool.. he's Canadian! But seriously, Pete is one of the greatest: such a crazy good player and so articulate when he describes or explains anything to do with music or gear, including his! That guitar and amp sound amazing and perfect set of feature. Thanks again, Warren, for another great interview and demo.

    Hi Warren,
D'addario do 9.5 - 44 gauge strings ( and other in between gauges too - other manufacturers are available....!!!). I use them on a strat and tune down a half step.
You wouldn't think it, but it's surprising how different the in between gauges feel and just how well they work. They can sometimes feel like the missing piece in the jigsaw. Well worth experimenting with. Great vid, love Pete's channel

I have a PRS Custom 20 (20 watts/5881 tubes) and it's plenty for any of the clubs along the PA/NY border where I am. (I do miss my AC15 though!) I think for many of us, anything over 30 watts is probably more than we need. 15 watts is pretty much perfect. Great amp design!

I think there isn't another product out there still with built in reactive load + IR + 3 independent channels (separate gain + EQ) with this much gain on tap. Am I wrong? Anything else come close? Was expecting to see something at winter NAMM 2020 but didn't see any.

The idea of this amp is amazing, but due to currency and import taxes in my country too bad a suhr amp gets soo expensive, i would definitely buy it if I could.

Backspin66 thanks!!! :) regarding cost, it gets tougher making things in CA, with tariffs, no compromises on parts or labor, etc but we continue to do it and hope that folks will appreciate the approach. We know it’s not inexpensive but it’s priced right where it needs to be to justify building em. If there’s ever ways to save we will and pass on the savings, we did this with the pt100, we were able to drop the price when john found ways to streamline production. Always moving forward! Rock on!
